Today’s world is full of unprecedented innovations and rapidly evolving technologies. It’s an era of endless possibilities, coupled with a new set of risks for security and privacy. At Samsung Electronics, we recognise that as we enter these uncharted territories, we must be prepared for the ever-changing security landscape and champion a dynamic approach to enterprise security.

The cybersecurity threats of today affect everyone, from consumers to businesses. Enterprise device fleets must be resilient— from suspicious URLs, insider employee threats and malware, to emerging risks associated with AI usage in the workplace, including sensitive data leaks. As a growing number of employees across industries — from corporate offices to the frontlines — use devices to access enterprise networks and resources, there are increased security risks that may also lead to a substantial financial toll on businesses.

Enterprise security incidents can arise across operations. However, the International Data Corporation (IDC)[1] found that an overwhelming 70 percent of successful breaches originate from endpoints — the devices that connect to networks like phones, laptops and tablets. Unfortunately, in today’s security operations landscape, IT administrators have much less visibility into mobile devices compared to PCs and servers. With mobile devices now being the most common method of employee network access, this has to change. A systematic, comprehensive approach is critical to ensuring seamless mobile capabilities and a enhanced way of protection. At Samsung, we’re setting a new standard for mobile enterprise security by committing to a collaborative Zero Trust strategy for endpoints in partnership with market leaders.

Core Principles for Endpoint Security

Samsung’s legacy of innovation is built upon our deep understanding of users. We’re constantly listening to feedback from consumers and businesses, anticipating the evolution of mobile technology. This is what enables us to develop industry-first solutions for consumers and businesses alike. As the Head of the Global Mobile B2B Team, I’m especially proud of how we’ve led the way in critical areas that deliver value to enterprises across the board. From advancing hardware-backed device attestation and threat detection to fully embracing the security principles, we are constantly striving to provide our customers with mobile devices and solutions that exceed their security requirements.

Zero Trust is a security framework that continuously assesses security, risk and trust levels based on context. The current security solutions market is dominated by network-centric Zero Trust solutions that focus on securing access at the network edge. Unfortunately, this approach by itself neglects a critical blind spot: the endpoint. Endpoints have the largest attack surface and are the most challenging IT assets to protect against cyberattacks. In most cases, they are the most vulnerable points in an organization’s IT ecosystem.

Zero Trust principles for endpoints, when realised correctly, ensure that access requests from endpoints are handled based on context that correlates with the device’s security and the user’s needs, and are continuously verified in real time. Although there is no definitive list of core principles behind Zero Trust endpoint protection, the following principles are the most commonly adopted:

“Never trust, always verify” approach for devices: Devices should no longer be implicitly trusted just because they are within the network boundary. Instead, each device needs to be verified prior to being granted access.

Continuous risk assessment and enforcement: Endpoint protection must be agile and ready to adapt to constantly changing risk conditions. This means continuously evaluating context — such as location, time of access and the device’s security— and adjusting security policies accordingly. Suspicious activity needs to be addressed through enforcement actions such as access restrictions or complete isolation.

Restricted privileges and narrowly scoped access: Endpoints must enforce access control in real time based on context while ensuring privileges are granted dynamically with a narrow scope.

Incorporation of user identity, device security and behavioral signals: A Zero Trust-compliant solution needs to make granular and informed trust decisions to enforce tight access controls. To enable such decisions, Zero Trust’s continuous evaluation of context integrates user identity, device security and behavioral signals.

While the Zero Trust security strategy is growing in adoption, Samsung is fully embracing it. By doing so, we are helping to protect the most vulnerable points in an organisation’s IT landscape. Risks related to endpoint security are constantly increasing as cloud-based applications, Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) programs and remote work prevail in the modern workplace environment. Samsung recognises the critical nature of this problem and is proactively addressing it in collaboration with partners.

Innovation and Collaboration for Security at Every Level

How does this work in practice? From the hardware level and all the way to the operating system and security interface, Zero Trust security principles are built into the architecture of Samsung Galaxy devices, enhancing protection at every layer while intuitively integrating with a business’s existing security infrastructure. Together, these practices empower enterprises to administer security threat detection and provide more reliable responses.

At Samsung, we recognise that security is a collective effort. It is only through open collaboration with partners that we can bring the most advanced solutions to our customers. In my time at Samsung, we’ve made extensive strides in bringing forth versatile, optimised and secure solutions[2] for enterprises of all kinds.

In 2024, we integrated Samsung Knox[3] — our multilayer security management platform — with Cisco Secure Access, an innovative Security Service Edge solution. This collaboration delivers a secure and flexible employee access experience, enabling organisations to verify user identity, device security and context before granting access.

We also have a strong partnership with Microsoft, defined by a shared vision of reimagining mobile device security for business customers. The first step of this strategic plan began in 2023, when we integrated Samsung Knox with Microsoft Intune, creating an on-device mobile hardware-backed device = solution that works equally well on both company and personal devices. This solution is now enabled by default in all new Android App Protection Policies, empowering organisations to bolster the security of all Samsung devices in their fleet. In yet another step forward in our partnership with Microsoft, Samsung offers a direct-to-security operations center (SOC) connector. This was achieved through the integration of Knox Asset Intelligence and Microsoft Sentinel[4], a scalable, cloud-native security information and event management (SIEM) solution. This integration delivers unprecedented visibility into mobile security threats, providing centralised monitoring and protection across enterprise device fleets.

Working together with partners, Samsung is addressing key challenges in multiple areas — securing mobile devices, minimising damage from potential cyber threats and empowering employees to work efficiently and effectively, reducing concerns for security.

Holistic Security for Enhanced Privacy

We’re constantly innovating, refining and developing Samsung Knox solutions in order to bring our customers enhanced control, greater transparency and better protection against cyber threats.

By embodying Zero Trust as a core pillar of Samsung Knox, every measure is being taken to help secure mobile devices and data.

As threats become increasingly complex with AI and hyperconnectivity taking center stage, security and privacy are more important now than ever before. Today’s business landscape is constantly being threatened by an increasing volume of cyberattacks that aim to exploit IT vulnerabilities, with mobile devices and other endpoints quickly becoming prime targets.

That’s why Samsung is working with market-leading companies to provide security solutions that work seamlessly with existing infrastructure, offering increased end-to-end protection. These collaborative solutions are a testament to our commitment to not only adhere to industry standards but to also drive their continued development when it comes to Zero Trust endpoint security. This is just the beginning.

Samsung’s 2025 line-up includes its Colour E-Paper display which redefines digital signage, the Samsung Interactive eBoard display series to help unlock learning possibilities and rugged smartphones and tablets which offer military-grade durability features.

“At Samsung we are proud to power Australian business across an array of sectors through long-term partnerships, all built on a deep understanding of customers’ specific needs. We understand Australian enterprises are looking for technology that’s not only powerful and intuitive, but developed to last, and designed with sustainability in mind,” said Neal Elliott, Acting Head of Pro-Display, Samsung Electronics Australia. “As proud leaders in display technology, we are continually innovating to meet the evolving industry requirements; and with our 2025 enterprise range, we are reinforcing our commitment to delivering smart, durable and efficient solutions, all with the aim to help organisations unlock new levels of productivity, engagement and connectivity.”

Samsung’s Colour E-Paper Brings Ultra Low Energy Consumption and Flexibility

Samsung Colour E-Paper (EMDX model) redefines digital signage, digitising the traditional paper experience.

The transition from paper to digital in-store advertising solutions is gaining traction among retailers seeking to improve business efficiency. The Australian launch of the Samsung Colour E-Paper comes as PwC Australia research indicates that 64% of retail businesses surveyed have observed greater cost-effectiveness with alternative digital signage compared to paper-based alternatives[2]. Additionally, 74% of retail businesses surveyed perceive digital in-store point-of-sale (POS) could lower costs by up to 50%, enough for 47% to consider switching from paper-based advertising[3].

Samsung’s ultra-low power consumption, lightweight and slim display provides a digital alternative to promotional materials while delivering the high visibility and functionality that businesses demand. This comes as 46% of retail businesses surveyed by PwC Australia say environmental considerations have a moderate to high influence on their choice of in-store advertising solutions[4].

The EMDX operates with minimal power when displaying static images. The ultra-slim and lightweight design ensures effortless installation, with its 32” size (2,560 x 1,440) optimised to display in either landscape or portrait orientation. The Colour E-Paper also includes a rechargeable 4600mAh battery, two USB-C ports for charging and data transfer, 8GB of memory, and Wi-Fi and Bluetooth support for enhanced connectivity.

For seamless device management, users can manage a fleet of Samsung Colour E-Paper displays remotely through cloud-based Samsung VXT[5] (Visual eXperience Transformation), Content Management System (CMS); or through a dedicated mobile app[6]. Users can also operate multiple displays, including scheduled wake-up and sleep times, and content scheduling. A specialised algorithm optimises content visibility for the display and includes a preview function to ensure content and colour are accurate before deployment.

As part of Samsung’s ongoing commitment to a sustainable future, select components of the Colour E-Paper contains a minimum of 55% post-consumer recycled content[7], while its packaging is made from paper and corrugated board, including the box, cushion, handle and accessory box.[8] The Samsung Colour E-Paper is available in Australia through authorised Samsung re-sellers or distributors.

Samsung Electronics Australia has today released new insights[1] revealing the impact that the teacher shortage crisis is having on Australian teachers, and the role that technology can play in overcoming some of the key challenges faced.

The survey commissioned by Samsung found that, despite barriers to adoption including budget restraints (60%), access to technology (37%) and individual digital confidence or skills (43%), almost half (49%) of teachers agree that technology has the potential to help teaching staff overcome some of the issues raised by the teacher shortage.

Phil Gaut, Senior Director and Head of Display and Memory Solutions Division at Samsung Electronics Australia says,”Our insights highlight the critical need to future-proof Australia’s education system. Educators agree that technology is key to providing productive, accessible and high-quality learning experiences for all students.

“We see tech as the ultimate enabler of top-tier learning experiences, and our suite of education products are crafted with teachers’ needs in mind, ensuring they address the sectors current challenges and deliver effective solutions to help instil meaningful change to Australian classrooms.”

The impact of the Australian teacher shortage

The data showcases that three quarters (75%) of teachers say they are feeling the impact of the teaching shortage crisis, either directly or indirectly via their employer. Teachers report that they feel overwhelmed or stressed by their workload (71%), are having to take on more responsibilities than usual (61%) and say they are working longer hours on regular tasks (53%).

In fact, 41% of respondents even said they are considering leaving their job, or the teaching profession all together, with this feeling highest amongst Queensland educators (48%).

Primary and secondary teachers report experiencing the impacts of the shortage more than university lecturers or specialist educators (43% vs. 13%), with teachers in primary or secondary education reporting that they are taking on more responsibilities and working longer hours on regular tasks (52% and 53%) in comparison tertiary educators (24%).

Technology is part of the solution

The survey found that 71% of teachers agreed the integration of technology within classrooms will improve the quality of learning opportunities they’re able to provide their students. This includes being able to provide students with greater accessibility to educational resources (61%), enhance digital knowledge and expertise (59%), offer futureproofing skills development (59%) and drive higher engagement with lesson content (53%), all of which are essential components toward the future of education.

Interestingly however, the belief that technology can help to offer solutions to issues raised by the teacher shortage in Australia varies amongst age groups, with the youngest teachers (18-24) less likely to agree (23%). This differs to older generations, with 52% of those aged 25-24, 60% of 25–44-year-olds and 51% of teachers aged 55-64 either agreeing that technology can overcome pressures faced.

For many educators, integrating technology in some format is already commonplace in the classroom. Almost three quarters of respondents (72%) turn to tech for lesson content (such as screens or presentations), followed by 64% that use interactive tools, or similar, for student engagement in lessons.

Through increased digitisation, educators are already feeling the benefits technology can have on learning. As outlined in the NSW Department of Education’s Schools Digital Strategy, digitalisation has freed up time in the teachers’ day allowing more time for one-on-one student support, and greater capacity to be more present in the classroom for effective and engaging teaching.

Teachers frequently find themselves adapting to new environments, moving between classrooms or even schools, requiring technology that is intuitive and easy to learn. By fostering connected learning environments, teachers and students benefit from more consistent experiences, whether this be in-person or remote. Incorporating technology into the curriculum allows for diverse and flexible delivery of educational content, catering to different learning styles and needs, as well as simplifying the admin for teachers so they can focus on the lesson at hand. Inside the classroom, tools including Samsung’s Flip Interactive Display and WAD Interactive eBoard help captivate students with features such as high-resolution screens, powerful speakers, and realistic pen-to-paper writing making the learning experience more engaging and collaborative.

Outside of the classroom is where Samsung’s connected campus vision comes to life, and where there is more scope for institutions to offer connected learning through integrated technology to create seamless and efficient experiences for students, faculty and staff. Through technology such as digital signage and LED displays, campus’ can offer real-time communication, keeping students and the schooling community both onsite and remote informed and connected.

Overcoming barriers to adoption

Samsung’s insights show some of the biggest challenges to integrating technology within schools lies with affordability (60%) and educators’ personal time constraints for learning/upskilling in technology tools (50%).

Regionally, the data shows a lack of proficiency or confidence in technology is one of the biggest barriers facing Victorian educators (45%), compared to Queensland (41%) and New South Wales (38%).

However, a connected campus supports a modern vision of teaching and learning, offering opportunities for students and teachers to upskill their digital literacy. Samsung’s ed-tech solutions focus on making education accessible and inclusive, with easy to use tools including the Flip Interactive Display and WAD Interactive eBoard cater to all types of teaching styles, as well as taking into considerations students diverse needs and learning styles, ensuring all have the opportunity to succeed.

Samsung Electronics Australia believes that the role of technology in the classroom is to supplement teachers and future-proof education, offering them the tools to automate, create and optimise their daily professions, enabling them to free up their time to focus on teaching itself. Interactive technologies not only have the potential to streamline efficiencies but also foster collaboration, engagement and accessibility across the education ecosystem, benefiting teachers, students and institutions.

Samsung Electronics Australia today announced that it has successfully completed its first 5G virtualised RAN (vRAN) trial on 26GHz with TPG Telecom, a leading mobile operator in Australia, following the commencement of tests earlier this year. The scope of their collaboration is now set to increase, with TPG engaging Samsung to expand its trial coverage in the operator’s network.

This brings TPG and Samsung Networks closer to offering Australian customers access to competitive connection speeds for 5G, and further showcases Samsung’s commitment to networks and 5G infrastructure in Australia.

This initial trial, which was announced in July this year, was the first trial on 5G vRAN and integrated mmWave solutions in 26GHz frequency in Australia. It was carried out on a cluster of sites attached to Samsung’s virtualised Core at TPG Telecom’s Innovation Lab and field in Glebe, with Samsung’s 5G solutions including vRAN and integrated mmWave product — Compact Macro. This high-powered, lightweight and compact solution, which brings together a baseband, radio and antenna in a single form-factor, can be easily installed on the sides of buildings as well as utility poles for the swift build-out of 5G networks. Moreover, the company’s commercial vRAN on mmWave is already deployed in global markets, including Japan, Korea and the U.S., and it has the capacity to support multi-gigabit speeds, while offering transformational 5G mobile experiences.

Through the trial, TPG and Samsung have successfully tested various scenarios designed to simulate the real-life user experience when connected to TPG’s 5G network, using Samsung’s cutting-edge 5G solutions. The trial resulted in speeds with a peak user throughput of 2.3Gbps using 400MHz of spectrum on 26GHz and demonstrated over 4Gbps in cell throughput with Samsung’s Multi-User, Multiple-Input, Multiple Output (MU-MIMO) technology. The trial also achieved a steady rate above 1Gbps user throughput in non-line-of-sight scenarios approximately 1km away.

“By combining our spectrum assets with smart engineering, we are able to achieve far greater spectral efficiency than what we have seen from others in the industry,” said TPG Telecom Executive General Manager Mobile and Fixed Networks, Barry Kezik.

“This is a great result and shows that innovative engineering and smart network design can help extend our reach, while also delivering great speeds and an excellent experience for customers.”

Commenting on the successful trial, Garry McGregor, Vice President, Mobile Division, Samsung Electronics Australia, said: “This is a significant step forward for the Samsung Networks business in Australia, towards realising the full potential of 5G and reshaping the value of mobile experiences for users and enterprises alike.”

“The goal of this trial was to test the capabilities of Samsung’s 5G solutions, including its cutting-edge 5G vRAN, in a range of settings. We have now successfully achieved that, which presents us with the exciting opportunity of continuing to elevate and support 5G network infrastructure in this country. Successfully deploying and conducting the trial even with the restrictions imposed by COVID-19, were a real achievement and show the commitment from both TPG and Samsung to delivering best in class 5G infrastructure.”

For the trial, Samsung will provide its Compact Macro and vRAN solution. Samsung’s latest 5G Compact Macro brings together a baseband, radio and antenna in a single form-factor. This compact and lightweight solution can be easily installed on the sides of buildings, as well as on utility poles, for the swift build-out of 5G networks. Samsung’s industry-leading commercial vRAN solution is built on the company’s independently developed stack, and runs on commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) servers. As a leader in vRAN, Samsung has commercially deployed its vRAN solution in wide scale for global Tier 1 operators’ networks in markets outside of Australia, and recently expanded its capability to support 3.5GHz Massive MIMO radio, which many industry voices had said would be hard to support with vRAN. Moreover, Samsung’s 5G vRAN on mmWave, already commercially deployed in global markets, including Korea, Japan and the U.S, has the capacity to support multi-gigabit speeds, delivering IT technology efficiencies and deployment advantages, while offering transformational 5G mobile experiences.

“We are very pleased to partner with Samsung as part of our new Innovation Lab to drive product and technology innovation by trialing virtualization,” said Iñaki Berroeta, CEO at TPG Telecom.

“Deploying mmWave spectrum on our 5G network together with vRAN architecture will allow us to develop exciting 5G use cases for industry verticals and enable the delivery of even faster speeds and greater capacity for our customers.”

“Samsung is excited to begin this trial with TPG Telecom powered by our innovative 5G vRAN solution and latest integrated 26GHz mmWave product, which will be the first in Australia,” said Woojune Kim, Executive Vice President and Head of Global Sales & Marketing, Networks Business at Samsung Electronics. “Through a combination of our powerful 5G solutions and ongoing efforts in 5G development, Samsung looks forward to helping TPG Telecom gain the full benefits of 5G to reshape the value of mobile experiences for users and enterprises.”

Samsung Electronics Australia has today announced its collaboration with telecommunications infrastructure provider, PLUS ES, to support the installation of Samsung’s wireless telecommunication infrastructure services in Australia, driving more efficient access to 5G networks.

The announcement follows the recent launch of Samsung’s networks operations, Samsung Networks Business, in Australia. Samsung will offer 5G radios, including 5G Compact Macro, the industry’s first 5G NR radio for mmWave spectrum, which has since been widely deployed in the U.S.

Samsung and PLUS ES, will collaborate to install Samsung’s equipment to existing infrastructure and facilities. Samsung’s 5G radios, for example, are predominantly attached to street lights or power poles. PLUS ES’s existing electrical infrastructure and expertise in this area will support the installation of Samsung’s 5G solutions and execute several trial sites in the coming months.

PLUS ES is a leading telecommunications infrastructure provider in Australia. The company manages a considerable footprint nationally, including 600-plus macro and micro cells, and 1600km of fibre under management – and is known for successfully delivering 15 small-cell 5G sites for the Commonwealth Games.

“Our collaboration with PLUS ES is a major step in the right direction as we continue deploying our mmWave technology in Australia and unlock the vast amount of potential that exists in 5G technology,” said Garry McGregor, Vice President at Samsung Electronics Australia. “PLUS ES has a considerable footprint in Australia and is a leading and respected infrastructure vendor. We are truly delighted to merge the power of our solutions.

“We are working hard with several local partners to continue deploying our mmWave technology at speed and scale, and our collaboration with PLUS ES is an example of the ground that we are making. It is a significant step in our mission to support the nation’s digital transformation with next generation networks technology,” added McGregor.

Commenting on the partnership, Jason Clark, Executive General Manager, Emerging Energy Solutions at PLUS ES, said: “Samsung has achieved considerable traction in the international mmWave market. It’s a leading industry solutions provider and is arguably the next disruptor in the local market after its launch in Australia in April.

“Samsung becomes a preferred partner of PLUS ES and, with its 5G mmWave solution – 5G Compact Macro – being AC powered, as well as its integrated antenna, radio and baseband unit, its simple deployment on existing power supplies and infrastructure mean we’re in a position to roll out quickly and at scale.”

Samsung is a global leader in 5G network solutions and aims to support the future of 5G and network connectivity in Australia. The recent launch of Samsung’s Networks Business followed the successful commercial deployments of 5G networks by mobile operators globally, using Samsung’s latest 5G solutions.

Samsung Networks has pioneered the successful delivery of 5G end-to-end solutions including chipsets, radios, and core. Through ongoing research and development, Samsung drives the industry to advance 5G networks with its market-leading product portfolio from fully virtualized RAN and Core to private network solutions and AI-powered automation tools. The company is currently providing network solutions to mobile operators that deliver connectivity to hundreds of millions of users around the world.
