Samsung’s newest watches are less about simply monitoring your health and more about steering it towards your wellness goals — beyond providing data for users to react to, the line-up offers more proactive guidance so you can make the right moves at the right time. Tech experts across Southeast Asia and Oceania have been testing both the Galaxy Watch Ultra2 and Galaxy Watch9 since the launch so read on for their verdicts on how the new line-up is performing. [2]

Peak Performance: What Stands Out About the Galaxy Watch Ultra2?

Galaxy Watch Ultra2 is Samsung’s most rugged smartwatch, built for high-performance outdoor activities. Fino Yurio Kristo, Detik (Indonesia) wrote: “Samsung has equipped the Galaxy Watch Ultra2 with a premium, rugged titanium[3] design built to withstand various conditions. Additionally, the device offers extended battery life, more accurate GPS, and enhanced performance[4], making it suitable for strenuous activities and long-distance adventures.”

Highlighting the device’s new diving capability, Justin Choo, Potions (Singapore) noted: “The original Galaxy Watch Ultra was built to survive rough conditions, but Samsung stopped short of recommending it for diving[5]. The Galaxy Watch Ultra2 changes all that.” Echoing positive sentiments about the new underwater feature, Ken Chu, Ke En (Malaysia) added: “The Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 is a more practical companion for those who enjoy exploring underwater environments.”

Beyond the new advanced features, comfort of the Watch Ultra series has also been improved, with Fuzz.my (Malaysia) sharing on TikTok: “Now it’s even slimmer[6] and & more comfortable to wear”. And after experiencing the Galaxy Watch Ultra2 for himself, Valens Quinn, GadgetGuy (Australia) highlights its “Faster chip, brighter screen[7], and bigger battery[8], all without a price rise”.

Everyday Wellness: How does the Galaxy Watch9 Perform as a Daily Health Companion?

Features like Vitals[9] analyses heart rate, heart rate variability, respiratory rate, skin temperature, and blood oxygen saturation while users sleep, to establish a personalised health baseline and send alerts when significant deviations are detected.

Seven generations in, Samsung’s foldables have moved beyond novelty to become daily mobile companions for many. Tech experts in Southeast Asia and Oceania have experienced this progress first-hand with the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold8 and Galaxy Z Flip8 since they launched at Galaxy Unpacked 2026: Here’s what they find most impressive:

Underpinning the latest generation of foldables is advanced hardware innovation, which Stephen Fenech, Tech Guide (Australia) notes: “With eight generations of foldable experience, research and development at its back, Samsung has established itself as the pioneering company of this latest and growing smartphone category.”

The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra brings Galaxy’s renowned Ultra standard to foldables, providing users with a larger workspace for maximum productivity and content creation. On design, Dedy Irvan, Jagat Review (Indonesia) shares: “The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra delivers an experience that feels closer than ever to Samsung’s Ultra lineup. Beyond the “Ultra” branding, its refined dual rail hinge offers a firmer, more premium feel — opening effortlessly, providing reassuring resistance midway, and locking smoothly into place when fully unfolded.”

Testing the foldable’s power to handle everyday tasks, Huy Duc, VnExpress (Vietnam) highlights: “Beyond its nearly invisible crease, it delivers one of its biggest upgrades yet: an increased 5,000mAh battery[2] packed into a slimmer chassis, complemented by faster 45W charging.[3]“

AI is being widely used to analyse biosignals measured by wearable devices such as smartwatches. By identifying meaningful patterns in health data — including sleep, heart rate and physical activity — AI is helping users better understand and manage their wellbeing.

The Health Forum held at Galaxy Unpacked July 2026 also shared Samsung’s Connected Care vision for the next chapter of digital health — a future where care moves from reactive treatment toward preventive, personalised and connected experiences, supported by trusted health innovation and partnerships across the healthcare ecosystem. One technology that is helping power these new consumer experiences is the health foundation model.

Researchers from the Digital Health Team at Samsung Research America (SRA) are developing new AI technologies to continuously understand a person’s health state from biosignals, generate health insights, and offer appropriate health guidance.

Samsung researchers recently introduced two foundation models based on wearable data: xMAE (Physiology-Aware Masked Cross-Modal Reconstruction for Biosignal Representation Learning), which learns the temporal relationship between different biosignals, and HiMAE (Hierarchical Masked Autoencoder), which understands health patterns across different time scales in wearable time-series data. Both studies demonstrate advancement of health AI models that can better understand the physiological relationships and temporal structure of biosignals.

Samsung’s work on xMAE and HiMAE models was accepted to the International Conference on Machine Learning (ICML), and the International Conference on Learning Representations (ICLR), respectively, highlighting the significance of this research.

Health Foundation Models That Read the Body’s Signals: Why They Matter for Health

A health foundation model is an AI model that uses self-supervised learning to learn meaningful features from unlabeled biosignal data.

HiMAE AI model: Reading the Body at Every Time Scale on the Device

Health data measured from wearable devices can reveal different information depending on the time scale at which it is analysed. For example, short time segments can reveal rapidly changing signals such as heartbeats, while longer time segments can uncover patterns that accumulate over time, such as sleep or physical activity. This is similar to examining different information by zooming in and out of an image.

HiMAE is a self-supervised learning model that learns representation from wearable data across multiple time scales. It uses multiple encoders to analyse short and long segments separately, allowing the model to identify information required for each health task, such as heart rate analysis or sleep prediction, at the appropriate time scale. During training, the model reconstructs masked parts of the data. This enables it to learn key patterns in biosignals even when labeled data is limited.

A single pretrained HiMAE model handles classification, numerical prediction and data generation. The model achieved high performance while being smaller than existing models. It also improved computational efficiency to the point where it can produce results in less than one millisecond on a smartwatch-class central processing unit (CPU). Most importantly, HiMAE demonstrates the potential of on-device health foundation models for the first time—analysing raw health signals in real time, without relying on cloud servers.

The Next Step Toward Connected Care

Together, xMAE and HiMAE, represent an advance in AI models that precisely understand the physiological relationships and temporal structures unique to biosignals. Both models aim to deliver precise, continuous, personalised health insights and to generalise across many health tasks from a single pre-trained model. Hear more from the researchers behind this work below.

On July 22 at Galaxy Unpacked July 2026, Samsung Electronics introduced Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold8, Galaxy Z Flip8, Galaxy Watch Ultra2 and Galaxy Watch9.

From foldables to smartwatches, Samsung’s latest Galaxy devices take different forms but share the same design philosophy — comfort.

Samsung Newsroom spoke with Hubert Lee, Executive Vice President and Head of the Design Team, Mobile eXperience (MX) Business at Samsung Electronics, to hear how this approach shaped the new line-up.

Hubert Lee

Q: What were the key design considerations for this year’s Galaxy foldable line-up?

Today’s Galaxy devices are faster and more powerful than ever. We considered how we could go one step further to deliver a more natural and comfortable experience.

Slimness and lightness are essential to creating a comfortable user experience, since they influence how naturally a device opens, how comfortable it feels in the hand and how easily it fits into everyday life. That is why we consider not only the product itself, but also every moment of the user experience it creates.

From an aesthetic perspective, we applied the concept of “Emotive Geometry.” This design approach brings human warmth to Galaxy’s simple, refined forms, creating a balanced design that goes beyond powerful performance to connect with users on an emotional level.

Product sketches and design elements on display illustrate the design process behind the new Galaxy Z series

Q: What drove the expansion of the Galaxy Z series portfolio?

Across seven generations of foldable innovation, we’ve gained a deeper understanding of how people use their devices. As user expectations for foldables have become more diverse, we have also recognised that no single foldable can meet every need – one size does not fit all.

Some users prioritise productivity and multitasking, while others value portability. Based on these insights, we expanded the Galaxy Z series line-up so each device could better serve different priorities.

Q: Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra is the slimmest Galaxy Z Fold yet[1]. What shaped its exceptionally slim design?

The design concept behind the newest Galaxy Z series is “Emotive Slim” — an approach that focuses not only on reducing thickness, but also on how slim it looks and feels in everyday use.

We applied a gentle slope to the frame to make the foldable easier to open and created a more curved outer silhouette for a softer, more comfortable grip. We also minimised the flat side profile to create a visually slimmer appearance.

Q: Why was a passport chosen as the design inspiration for the new Galaxy Z Fold8?

The classic passport is designed to be easy to carry, hold with one hand and read at a glance. Those same ergonomic principles shaped Galaxy Z Fold8, extending our focus on comfort throughout the device’s overall layout.

When folded, it features a 16:10 aspect ratio optimiszed for one-handed use. Unfolded, it becomes a more immersive 4:3 display with balanced symmetry.

Q: How were these colours chosen for the new Galaxy Z series?

Each colour was chosen to reflect the lifestyle of the people each device is designed for. Violet Shadow gives Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra a chic, sophisticated look, while Lavender brings freshness and softness to Galaxy Z Fold8. Pink adds vibrant, playful energy to Galaxy Z Flip8. Cream and Graphite round out the palette with timeless versatility.

Q: How did Samsung refine the design of Galaxy Watch Ultra2 and Galaxy Watch9?

If a smartphone lives in the hand, a smartwatch delivers its greatest value when it’s comfortable enough to wear every day. That’s why our approach to the new Galaxy Watch series focused on refinement rather than reinvention, preserving our core design while enhancing the details that matter most.

At the centre of Galaxy Watch is the cushion design. More than a shape, it defines the watch’s identity by balancing presence with softness and precision with comfort. For Galaxy Watch Ultra2, we brought the screen, bezel and cushion body into a seamless form, creating a cleaner profile and a more premium look. We also carefully refined the spacing and tactile separation between the buttons, making each one easier to distinguish by touch and enabling precise control without looking at the screen.

Q: How have the bands on Galaxy Watch Ultra2 and Galaxy Watch9 changed?

Bands play a critical role in wearability. For this generation, we made them lighter, thinner and more breathable with a new air pocket structure.

Because every wrist is different, we used computational design to validate comfort and fit. We refined the balance between the watch body and band for greater stability on the wrist, while expanded band options give users more ways to express their personal style.

Q: What design philosophy ties this year’s Galaxy devices together?

In an era shaped by AI-driven change, human-centered values are more important than ever. Design shouldn’t only be seen — it should also be felt. For design to feel truly human, it must begin with a deep understanding of how people live, work and interact with technology every day. That belief has guided our approach to designing foldables and smartwatches.

London, a city of rich heritage and innovation, set the stage for Galaxy Unpacked July 2026, as Samsung Electronics unveiled its latest foldables — Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold8, and Galaxy Z Flip8.

Combining refined hardware with powerful AI capabilities, the new Galaxy Z series delivers an advanced camera experience across professional-quality landscapes, dynamic video, and expressive selfies.

Fresh from Galaxy Unpacked July 2026, Samsung Australia Newsroom took all three devices across London to put their cameras to the test.

Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra: Brilliant Detail, Day and Night

The journey began in Westminster. The Palace of Westminster, with Big Ben rising above it, sits along the River Thames, while the London Eye stands across the water on the South Bank — a view that brings together London’s past and present.

Shot with Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Big Ben and the surrounding cityscape came through in crisp detail.

(From top to bottom) Photo taken with Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra and a cropped zoom of Big Ben enlarged by more than 10x

Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra’s 200MP main camera brings distant subjects into sharp focus. A new high dynamic range (HDR) capability in 200MP mode delivers richer colours and finer detail1. Zooming in reveals Big Ben’s intricate stonework and even the Latin inscription beneath the clock face, demonstrating Ultra-level clarity down to the smallest details.

Photo taken with the 200MP camera from the London Eye on Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra

At 135 meters tall, the London Eye is difficult to fit into a single frame from up close. The Galaxy Z Fold series’ first 50MP ultra-wide camera makes it possible to capture the towering landmark, ticket office, and nearby visitors in a single shot.

(From left) Photos taken with the 1x camera and 50MP ultra-wide camera on Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra

After sunset, London took on a different character. At Tower Bridge, enhanced Nightography[1] reduced noise in low light while preserving the illuminated bridge and texture of the flowing river in vivid detail.

Tower Bridge captured with enhanced Nightography

Photo taken with Nightography

Galaxy Z Fold8: Ready for Moments in Motion

Some travel moments are worth seeing from both sides of the camera. As Tower Bridge slowly lifted, Dual Recording captured the bridge in motion and the reactions of those watching in a single video.

Dual Recording

Dual Recording uses the rear and front cameras simultaneously, with real-time previews on the expansive main display for easy framing. The two perspectives are combined into a single split-screen video, making the feature ideal for vlog-style content that captures both the moment and the reaction.

Video recorded with Dual Recording

Away from the busy tourist hotspots, the journey continued to St. James’s Park. Filming one of the park’s resident pelicans proved challenging, as it moved quickly across the frame. For fast-moving action like this, Super Steady[2] came in handy.

https://img.global.news.samsung.com/au/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/Samsung-Mobile-Galaxy-Unpacked-July-2026-Galaxy-Z-Fold8-Ultra-Galaxy-Z-Fold8-Galaxy-Z-Flip8-London-with-Foldables_main9-1.mp4

Users can capture stable footage in high-motion situations.

Even as the phone moved sharply from side to side to follow the pelican, Super Steady with Horizontal Lock kept the footage level.

Galaxy Z Fold8’s expansive 4:3 main display makes it easy to review clips, edit them to the desired aspect ratio, and share them with friends. From shooting to viewing and editing, the creative process flows seamlessly on one device.

Galaxy Z Flip8: Freedom From Every Shot

Galaxy Z Flip8 brings more fun and flexibility to travel photography. With Flex Mode[4], users can position the phone for hands-free shots from multiple angles — without help from others.

Flex Mode on Galaxy Z Flip8

Galaxy Z Flip8, the thinnest and lightest Galaxy Z Flip yet[5], fits comfortably in one hand. FlexWindow on the cover screen provides a real-time preview, making it easier to frame selfies.

Equipped with a 50MP wide-angle camera and AI-powered ProVisual Engine, Galaxy Z Flip8 captures high-quality selfies in fine detail, down to individual strands of hair.[1]

Galaxy Z Flip8’s improved AI Bokeh feature naturally separates subjects from the background for portraits with greater depth.

The journey ended aboard one of London’s iconic double-decker buses. Folded halfway, Galaxy Z Flip8’s Camcorder Grip[6] made the device comfortable to hold like a camcorder while recording on the move.

Camcorder Grip

Zoom Rocker with Camcorder Grip[6] provides precise control over zoom speed for smooth, natural zoom-ins.

Exploring London with the latest Galaxy Z series revealed new ways to see — and remember — the city through each device.

With Galaxy cameras, Samsung will continue to help users capture the moments that matter and preserve those memories for years to come.

[1] Results may vary depending on light condition and/or shooting conditions including multiple subjects, being out of focus or moving subjects.

[3] Measured diagonally, H8’s Main Screen size is 7.6” in the full rectangle and 7.6” accounting for the rounded corners; actual viewable area is less due to the rounded corners.

For users switching from iOS to Galaxy, being able to bring existing data and settings across easily is an important part of Smart Switch the experience.

Smart Switch is Samsung’s data transfer app[1] that allows users to move contacts, photos, videos, messages, apps, settings and more from an Android or iOS device to a new Galaxy device. With One UI 9 on the new eighth-generation Galaxy Z series, Smart Switch makes switching devices easier and more seamless than before. Quick Share has also been enhanced, making it easier to share files with friends, family and colleagues using different platforms.

Start Switching With Just a QR Code

With One UI 9, users no longer need to install the Smart Switch app separately on their iOS device. By simply scanning the QR code displayed on their new Galaxy, they can start transferring data through Smart Switch.

The updated Smart Switch also makes it easier to connect wirelessly. The two devices can connect without users needing to find the right cable or adapter before getting their new phone set up.

Bring More of Your Phone With You

With One UI 9, Smart Switch has expanded the types of data that can move from iOS devices to Galaxy. In addition to previously supported data such as photos, messages, contacts, calendars and apps, users can also transfer passwords and passkeys, call history, accessibility settings and eSIM information.

These may be less visible than a photo library, but they can make a big difference to how quickly a new device feels ready to use. A saved password means one less account to set up again. Bringing over accessibility settings can reduce the need to recreate a personalised experience. eSIM information can also be transferred, making it easier to continue using an existing mobile setup.

Make Galaxy Feel More Familiar

Whether switching to Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold8 or Galaxy Z Flip8, users can make their new device feel familiar from the start. Beyond transferring data, they can adjust key settings such as Swipe gestures and Home screen layout to suit the way they use their phone. With the UI customisation app Good Lock, users can also personalise the Home screen, app switching and more, giving them greater freedom to use Galaxy in the way that works best for them.

For those switching from iOS to Galaxy, these options can help recreate familiar ways of navigating and organising their previous smartphone, reducing the adjustment that can come with moving to a new environment. This helps users settle into their new Galaxy more comfortably and naturally from the start.

Keep Sharing After the Switch

Changing smartphones does not mean everyone around a user changes theirs too.

Friends, family and colleagues may continue using different devices, which makes cross-platform sharing an important part of the experience long after setup is finished. Devices running One UI 9 and One UI 8.5 can benefit from an enhanced cross-device sharing experience[2] with Quick Share. With AirDrop[3] compatibility, Quick Share makes it easier to share files between Galaxy and iOS devices.

Choosing a new smartphone should come down to the experience people want next. By simplifying how the switch begins, expanding what can move across and making it easier to keep sharing afterward, Samsung is reducing more of the practical barriers between smartphone ecosystems.

The result is a simpler way to move to Galaxy, while bringing more of what already matters along for the journey.

[1] Transferable data may vary depending on the device OS (Android or iOS), OS version and connection method. Data transfer from an iOS device to a Galaxy device using the upgraded method is available on devices running Android 17 or later and iOS 26.6 or later in regions outside mainland China

[2] The “Share with iOS devices” feature is currently supported first on select flagship models, including the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold8, Galaxy Z Flip8 and Galaxy S26, with support planned to expand to more models in the future.

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. today announced that Galaxy Buds4 Pro has received the EISA In-Ear Headphones 2026-2027 Award by the Expert Imaging and Sound Association (EISA). This marks the first time a Galaxy Buds product has earned this recognition from EISA, underscoring Samsung’s continued commitment to audio innovation, superior sound quality, intelligent adaptive listening technologies, and user-focused design.

The award is particularly significant because it validates the core engineering philosophy behind Galaxy Buds4 Pro: delivering sound as it was meant to be heard. The EISA Awards represent one of the most authoritative annual recognitions of audio quality in the global consumer electronics industry. Judged by a collective of expert editors from top technology publications across more than 25 countries, these accolades provide an independent assessment of audio performance and innovation. The recognition reinforces Samsung’s ongoing efforts to push the boundaries of premium wireless audio through advanced hardware, intelligent software, and user-centric design.

EISA’s praise further highlights the Galaxy Buds4 Pro’s balance of audio performance, call quality and everyday usability.

“Employing a two-way speaker with individual amplifiers dedicated to the woofer and tweeter Samsung’s Galaxy Buds4 Pro] yields clean, musical detail,” commented Ljubisa Miodragovic, President at EISA. “Meanwhile, advanced Sensor Fusion technology combines a dedicated Voice Pickup Unit (VPU) with DNN-powered noise reduction to ensure exceptionally clear calls.”[1]

“At Samsung, our goal has always been to deliver Hi-Fi sound that stays true to the original recording. Receiving the EISA In-Ear Headphones Award validates our commitment to audio engineering excellence and affirms our promise of delivering premium sound quality and user experiences,” said Han-gil Moon, Master and Head of Audio Group, Mobile eXperience (MX) Business at Samsung Electronics. “Users can be confident that Galaxy Buds4 Pro are built to provide the best and most satisfying sound experience. We will continue to build on this foundation to offer even richer listening experiences in the future.”

A newly designed wider woofer that increases the effective speaker area by nearly 20%[2] over the previous generation, paired with a dedicated tweeter to deliver clean bass, rich treble, and 24-bit/96kHz UHQ audio[3] true to the original recording.

Samsung users may have noticed something new on their Galaxy Z foldables — the Warranty and care[1] menu.

Managing warranties and coverage for a Galaxy mobile phone, Galaxy Watch, Galaxy Buds, and Galaxy Tab can be a hassle. That’s where Warranty and care comes in. Introduced with One UI 9, it brings essential device management features together in one place, letting users check warranty status, run diagnostics, book repairs, and get support in just a few taps — all without leaving Settings.

Here’s a closer look at what Warranty and care, available with One UI 9 on Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold8, and Galaxy Z Flip8 offers.

Check Warranty Status Across Galaxy Devices

Keeping track of warranty periods and expiration dates across Galaxy devices isn’t always easy. Warranty and care consolidates this information in a single hub.

Access Warranty and care instantly from Settings. Actual UX/UI may vary. Visuals are for illustrative purposes only.

Available in Settings, Warranty and care displays information[2] about the device in use at the top of the screen — including remaining warranty period and eligibility for Samsung Care+ enrollment.[3] Below, users can find the same details for other Galaxy devices linked to their Samsung account, making it easy to check warranty and coverage status across their Galaxy ecosystem.

For added convenience beyond the standard warranty, users can easily explore and enrol in a Samsung Care+ plan that matches their needs.

Resolve Device Issues With Diagnostics and Bixby

When something doesn’t feel quite right, quickly finding out what’s wrong can make all the difference. The built-in Diagnostics feature checks the device — including its battery, charging, sensors, touch response, and connectivity — to help pinpoint the issue and guide users to the next step, whether that’s a suggested solution or a repair request.

Bixby offers customised responses to your inquiries. Actual UX/UI may vary. Visuals are for illustrative purposes only.

Users can also access Bixby[4] from Warranty and care to ask about an issue and get help on the spot. For example, if a user asks, “My battery is draining too fast. What should I do?” Bixby can walk them through possible solutions step by step. It’s a convenient way to get answers to everyday questions without switching screens.

Book Repairs and Check Estimated Costs in One Place

When professional help is needed, users can tap “Request a repair” to book a repair at a Samsung-authorised service center without having to make phone calls. All repairs are carried out by Samsung-certified technicians using genuine parts. If users are unable to visit a service center, they can start remote support from the same screen and get help directly on their device.

Warranty and care also makes device care service information easy to check. After selecting an issue, users can view estimated repair costs[5] for major parts alongside the cost of the same repair with Samsung Care+. This comparison helps users weigh their options and decide whether additional protection is worthwhile.

Repair estimates on main parts can also be verified.

Protect Device Value for the Long Term

By bringing warranty information, diagnostics, support and repair services together, Warranty and care provides Galaxy users a simpler way to manage their devices for added peace of mind. Checking the feature during setup makes it easier to know where to turn if an issue comes up later — from running diagnostics and asking Bixby or a chatbot for help to requesting a repair. With these essential services close at hand, users can keep their devices in good condition for longer and help preserve their value.
