At Samsung, we strive for continuous growth and improvement, while also recognising the importance of empowering the next generation to drive their own innovation and progress. Today, technologies like generative artificial intelligence (AI) are fast becoming the transformative technological developments of this era, and we strongly believe in the technology’s potential in enhancing our capabilities.

I found a recent report from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to be quite interesting; the findings revealed global human development progress – a measure of improvements in health, education, and income levels according to the UNDP’s Human Development Index (HDI) – has slowed to a 35-year low. While this take was concerning, what followed was unprecedented optimism about AI’s potential – with 60% of respondents worldwide hopeful that AI will create new job opportunities[1].

We now stand at the edge of a digital divide. As a global technology leader, we are taking on the responsibility to equip all with technology – such as AI – as well as skills that empower them to co-create meaningful change at scale.

Inspiring Collective Innovation Through Human-Centered AI

In the vibrant Southeast Asia & Oceania (SEAO) region, we are already seeing the next generation embracing AI’s potential, not just to shape their careers, but also to drive meaningful social change[2]. These insights align with UNDP findings that show two-thirds of respondents anticipating the usage of AI in education, health, or work within the next year.

At Samsung, initiatives like Solve for Tomorrow (SFT), our global flagship corporate social responsibility (CSR) program, embodies the United Nations’ (UN) call for building an economy where people leverage AI rather than compete against it. Across SEAO, the 2025 edition of SFT has kicked off in Australia ,Vietnam, Indonesia, , Thailand, Singapore, Philippines, Malaysia and New Zealand.

The Solve For Tomorrow 2025 Australia Major Prize winner hails from Melbourne, Australia, with his entry, “Access Lens”.

Through the competition, participants gain the skills and confidence to tackle complex problems, transforming their ideas into actionable solutions that solve real problems. One such example is Samsung Australia’s Solve for Tomorrow Major Winner, Faiz Noorani whose concept, Access Lens which is an AI-powered solution that uses augmented reality to improve real-time Auslan translation to assist Deaf and hard of hearing Australians. Designed to translate spoken English into Auslan signs via smart glasses or a smartphone camera, Access Lens aims to help users feel more confident, connected and included in everyday interactions.

Our approach to CSR also reflects the UN’s focus on embedding human agency across the full AI lifecycle, from design to deployment. Through programs like SFT, we ensure that young innovators remain at the center of technological solutions, and not just as passive recipients.

Investing in the Leaders of Tomorrow

Today, we are also seeing the democratisation of AI underway. Our own youth survey on AI reveals that 9 in 10 youths in SEAO are using AI daily.

Notably, the UNDP highlights that 70% of people in low- and medium-HDI countries expect AI to increase their productivity. These insights reinforce the potential of AI as a bridge to new knowledge and skills, thereby making Samsung’s contributions towards skills development not just beneficial, but essential for regional economic growth and competitiveness.

Creating a future-ready workforce means bridging the digital divide, and ensuring those without easy access to education, technology, and upskilling opportunities, have the support they need to both participate in and drive change.

Samsung Innovation Campus is a global education program that helps youth build advanced IT skills and practical capabilities for better opportunities.

Across the region, we empower young people through initiatives like Samsung Innovation Campus (SIC), providing information and communications technology education in areas such as Coding & Programming, Internet of Things and AI. By bridging the skills gap and laying a foundation for future employment, we’re contributing to the development of skilled professionals and supporting national goals, such as Indonesia’s digital economy growth, which will need an additional 9 million digital talent by 2030.

Over in Thailand, our decade-long partnership with the Office of the Vocational Education Commission through the Dual Vocational Education (DVE) program empowers vocational students with real-world experience and future-ready capabilities. By combining classroom learning with on-the-job training, the program not only strengthens technical expertise, but also cultivates vital skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving, and teamwork. This well-rounded approach ensures that students are fully equipped to succeed and contribute meaningfully to Thailand’s development.

Technology as a Bridge

This commitment to inclusivity extends beyond product design and into how we think about the future of work. As industries evolve and the green economy expands, we must ensure that no one is left behind.

By working closely with government agencies, educators, partners, customers, and the youth who will inherit this future, we are building not just products but responding to the urgent need for new approaches to development, by creating pathways where innovation uplifts communities, and ensuring that everyone has a role in shaping an AI-enhanced future.

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. took to the stage at IFA today, celebrating 100 years of innovation at the conference, to continue its vision “AI For All.” The presentation showcased Samsung’s bold commitment to democratise AI, enabling more people to benefit from its uses.

Further expanding the AI for All vision, the conference included chapters “AI Meets the World” and “AI Meets You” where speakers from across the company and its partners demonstrated the critical role AI plays in improving users’ quality of life, equipping them with tools they can use to enrich their lives.

“Since our presentation at IFA last year, discussions around AI and its role in our lives have grown significantly,” said presenter, Benjamin Braun, Chief Marketing Officer, Samsung Europe. “At Samsung, we are proud to make AI more accessible and understandable, showing how it can simplify life rather than complicate it. We believe AI should act like multiple pairs of helping hands, meeting your needs and the world beyond them. Our AI-enabled products allow people more time to focus on the things they care about.”

Benjamin Braun, CMO Samsung Europe, highlighting AI for All on stage at IFA 2024

AI For All

Samsung’s AI for All spans a wide range of its AI enabled products, from mobile devices, home appliances and home entertainment systems. By the end of 2024, Samsung expects there will be 200 million Galaxy AI-enabled devices in users’ hands. Samsung understands its AI features need to adapt to how consumers want to live.

Central to this is the expanding SmartThings ecosystem, which connects over 500 million devices[1], offering seamless remote control of all Samsung AI-enabled products, from turning the heating on or off, managing all SmartThings compatible appliances when home or away and navigating Samsung TVs.

Never before has it been so easy for people across the world to use of the power of AI to take control of the world around them. Samsung AI enable products give this power to its users, allowing them to curate their everyday experiences. Whether striving for more sustainable living, expanding creativity or connecting with their loved ones.

However, according to research commissioned by Samsung, only 15% of consumers said they have a full understanding of how AI can be used in their daily lives and yet 66% of us are looking for ways to create more time. This shows a clear opportunity for Samsung AI to give back to people, and why AI is for All.[2]

Rolling out alongside IFA, the latest operating system upgrade, One UI 6.1.1, will expand AI possibilities on the Galaxy S24, Z Fold5 and Flip5[3]. This rollout of One UI 6.1.1 will include brand new apps which bring more opportunity for creativity and connection. Features include Sketch to Image, which allows users to visualise their ideas through image options generated from a simple drawing, and Portrait Studio which propels creativity by helping users create a more personalised avatar to use online.

Deborah Honig, VP of One Samsung at Samsung UK, on stage at IFA 2024

AI Meets You

Samsung believes that its AI should enhance daily life by allowing users to personalise entertainment experiences. At IFA 2024, Samsung launched the Premiere 7 and 9 Projectors, designed to help users focus on what they care about and who they share it with.

The Premiere 9 and The Premiere 7 projectors, bring advanced laser technology to home entertainment, delivering exceptional 4K resolution and immersive audio on screens up to 130 inches[4]. They include AI-powered technology, including Upscaling, which enhances content to 4K quality, and Vision Booster, which adjusts brightness and contrast for optimal viewing in various lighting conditions. Designed to transform living spaces into premium home cinemas, these projectors offer a superior viewing experience with cutting-edge technology.

Stephanie Chosen, Brand & Product Marketing Manager, Samsung at IFA 2024 on stage

Also showcased on stage at IFA were the latest innovations in Samsung TVs. Since 2015, Tizen OS has powered hundreds of millions of smart TVs, leading the evolution of television viewing. 2024 Samsung AI TVs will receive Tizen OS upgrades for seven years considering hardware specification.[5] This ensures that consumers can continue to enjoy the latest innovations and enhanced connectivity across all their Samsung devices.

Samsung’s Neo QLED 8K QN9000D AI screen provides an enhanced viewing experience with built-in NQ 8 AI Gen 3 processor. This processors features 512 neural networks—eight times more than Samsung’s 2024 QN900C and QN800C[6]—and, when combined with the power of AI, deliver a customised, high-quality sound and picture experience. This technology upscales on-screen content up to 8K to deliver Samsung’s sharpest and smoothest picture yet.[7]

The latest developments in The Frame and Art Store were also celebrated at IFA with the announcement of several new partnerships. Along with collaborations with Finnish design house Marimekko and Jean-Michel Basquiat, Samsung introduced an exclusive collection of 12 masterpieces by Belgian surrealist René Magritte. These partnerships enable users to bring extraordinary art into their homes, adding a touch of magic to their everyday surroundings[8].

Samsung is creating simple user experiences through its Bespoke AI appliances, which now offer enhanced Bixby voice control features. These upgraded capabilities[9] mean that Bixby can now understand multiple commands in one sentence, recall previous interactions for personalised responses and provided answers to product related questions. Bixby also opens up greater control and accessibility benefits for users, as it allows people to use the Auto Open Door feature on selected Samsung washing machine and refrigerator models by simply saying “Bixby, open the door.”

AI Meets World

Samsung believes that AI is a force for good and one which has a critical role to play in allowing us all to take better care of the planet and each other. Samsung is also continuing its mission to become Net Zero by 2050[10].

Within its products, Samsung continues to prioritise energy efficiency and is passionate about using AI to make this possible. Whether that’s AI inside appliances such as its refrigerators and washing machines or using AI to unlock the potential of its SmartThings Eco System to help reduce energy usage.

Katharina Mayer Head of LifeStyle Lab Europe, Digital Appliances, Samsung, on stage at IFA 2024

The All-in-One washer and dryer combo is a single space efficient appliance that finishes the wash and dry cycle in one queue. The Bespoke AI Heat Pump combo which consumes up to 60% less energy with AI Energy Mode during the wash cycle[11],[12] and 20% less during the dry cycle when compared to using the same cycle without AI Energy Mode. This impressive performance is achieved through advanced heat pump drying technology, which dries clothes quickly, gently and efficiently at low temperatures

The SmartThings Ecosystem remains at the core of Samsung’s ability to pioneer energy monitoring and efficiency. Furthermore, with SmartThings Away Mode, users don’t need to worry about forgetting to turn off a SmartThings compatible light or Samsung TV when they go out. Sensors in selected SmartThings compatible appliances sense when there is no-one in the room and then shut down systems to help reduce energy consumption.

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. has announced the launch of the new Less Microfiber Filter, an external washing machine filter which can be used with select Samsung front load washing machines designed to help capture plastic microfibers released during a standard laundry wash cycle.

Convenience Every Day and at Every Stage of the Product Lifecycle

The filter’s blades can help capture microfibers, then redirect and compress these fibers to one side, meaning the filter only needs to be cleaned after approximately every 30 uses and the microfibers can be easily removed. The captured microfibers should be appropriately discarded as general waste and not washed away with water.

Sasha Botha, Head of Home Appliance, Samsung Electronics Australia said, “At Samsung, we’re committed to providing Australians with products and solutions that add further efficiencies to their days. Less Microfiber Filter not only raises awareness of a little known reality, but also provides an opportunity to inspire and enable consumers— since even the smallest steps could make a difference.”

By connecting with Samsung’s intelligent connectivity platform SmartThings, the filter can track how full it is from 0 to 100%, alerting users when cleaning or other troubleshooting is required via the SmartThings app[2].

Innovation for a Brighter Future

The development and launch of the Less Microfiber Filter are just the latest steps in Samsung’s journey.

Beyond the launch of the Less Microfiber Filter, Samsung will continue developing new technologies and products that makes life easier for customers everywhere and continue to work with partners to deliver tomorrow’s household solutions.

Samsung’s flagship QLED 8K TV range combines a striking, ultra-thin form factor, amazing 8K picture quality, and impressive surround-sound audio. Plus, the Q950T introduces the ‘Infinity Screen,’ allowing the picture to etch right to the edge, offering a nearly 99 per cent pure screen to body ratio.

“We’ve been incredibly considered with the development of our 2020 TV and AV range. Entertainment through TV, movies, streaming, gaming and music, brings us together and we’re committed to delivering products, like QLED 8K that enhance our lifestyle in and around the home.” Hass Mahdi, Director of AV, Samsung Australia.

Uncompromised Viewing Experience

Equipped with the AI-enabled Quantum Processor 8K, it has built-in 8K AI upscaling and deep-learning capabilities that are designed to automatically upscale non-8K content to pristine 8K resolution. Whether people enjoy sports, movies, TV shows in HD, 4K, or 8K, formats, this range of TVs can detect, transform, and deliver content through an incredibly sophisticated AI system which includes on-board upscaling and ‘deep learning’ algorithms.1

Refining the Picture Experience for any Setting

With a feature called Adaptive Picture, it can optimise the screen to both ambient conditions and individual images. Further supporting the picture quality and design enhancements of the QLED 8K lineup, the 8K ecosystem continues to expand, providing seamless playback for 8K content from providers like YouTube and devices that capture 8K content, like the Samsung Galaxy S20.

The adoption of AV1 codec allows for better compression rates, and enables the support of HDR10+ technology, image dimensionality, brightness optimisation, and contrast ratio.

Breakthroughs in Samsung Audio Innovation

Building off the picture quality amplification are the QLED 8K’s incredible sound features –Object Tracking Sound+ (OTS+), and Active Voice Amplifier. These features are designed to maximise cinematic sound by delivering dimensional and dynamic audio that corresponds with large screen viewing experiences.3

Samsung Electronics announced it will bring new, innovative features found on its flagship Galaxy S20 series to the Galaxy S10 and Galaxy Note10 series through an upcoming software update1 starting from March. Users will be able to capture content with the latest Galaxy camera software technology, including Single Take mode. Additionally, users will have access to a variety of software enhancements that make the entire Galaxy experience even more enjoyable.

Let’s dive into how select Galaxy S20 features will work on the Galaxy S10 and Galaxy Note10.

Advanced Photo and Video Experiences

This software update brings select Galaxy S20 photo and video experiences to the Galaxy S10 and Note10 series. With Single Take, stay in the moment while you capture the moment using integrated AI technology. Single Take uses the camera system and AI to capture a number of photos and videos at once and recommends the best shot for you2.

With an improved Night Mode on the Galaxy S10 series, and the addition of Night Hyperlapse on both Galaxy S10 and Note10 series3, you’ll be able to capture even more amazing photos and videos even in low light.

When you’ve captured that perfect image, Custom Filter lets you create your own filter with colors and styles you like from a favorite photo serving as inspiration. This creates a reusable filter that can be applied to future photos when captured.

Single Take available on the Galaxy S10 (left), Single Take in the Gallery on the Galaxy Note10

Custom Filter introduction on the Galaxy S10 (left), How Custom Filter is used on the Galaxy Note10

For the aspiring filmmaker, Pro Video gives you even more control, allowing you to adjust settings like ISO, shutter speed and exposure level. You can also switch between the front and rear cameras while recording video.

Pro Video now available on the Galaxy S10 (left), Shooting video in Pro Video mode on the Galaxy Note10

Intelligent Gallery

This update also brings a variety of gallery features to help you organize your content. Thanks to AI technology, with Clean View enabled, the Gallery app automatically groups together similar shots of the same subject for a more organized gallery4. Users can easily review similar shots and select their favorite to serve as the photo group’s thumbnail. When viewing a photo in the gallery, you can zoom in on an image and press Quick Crop, located at the top left-hand corner, to crop photos to your desired size.

Samsung Electronics Australia has today announced the local availability of its 98-inch QLED 8K TV, its largest TV available in Australia. QLED 8K delivers pin-sharp picture quality, remarkable design, innovative smart features and for the first time in Australia, 8K resolution. The 98-inch QLED 8K introduces incredible depth and detail creating an immersive and premium cinematic experience that needs to be seen to be believed.

“As the pinnacle of our TV range, the 98-inch QLED 8K is the ultimate in home entertainment. This TV delivers levels of immersion and picture quality the likes of which Australians have rarely seen,” said Jeremy Senior, Head of Consumer Electronics at Samsung Australia.

As Australians embrace larger screens, the 98-inch QLED 8K TV is for those looking for a superior first of its kind home cinema experience, with minimal compromise of pixelation, which could occur in lower-resolution panels of the same scale.

Samsung QLED 8K uses the power of machine learning to analyse and upscale low-resolution content to stunning 8K, while also allowing for playback of native 8K content. Whether watching content through a streaming service, set-top box, HDMI, USB or even mobile mirroring, Samsung’s proprietary AI technology can recognise and upscale content, regardless of the native resolution, to pristine 8K resolution.

According to Senior, QLED 8K is challenging people’s perceptions of what is possible with TV technology: “This is a TV like no other. The clarity is breath taking and it is something that needs to be experienced in person. We encourage Australians to head in-store to see Samsung’s latest innovation in TV technology.”

The 98-inch QLED 8K is available now for $99,999 and is available nationally through selected retailers.
