Samsung Expands ‘AI Home’ Ecosystem, Bringing its ‘Screens Everywhere’ Vision to Life Across Home Appliances

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. has announced that it is bringing its advanced screen technology to a broader range of home appliances, representing a bold step forward in realising its “Screens Everywhere” vision. In 2025, Samsung will upgrade the kitchen experience by launching a refrigerator with a new 9” AI Home[1] screen, and adding the 7” AI Home to the Wall Oven[2]. Screen options are being widened for consumers in the laundry category as well, with the 7” AI Home¹ applied to the Bespoke AI Heat Pump Combo now being included in the newly launching Bespoke AI Washer and Dryer set. Samsung is showcasing these new products at the upcoming CES 2025.

“We have been leading the development of screen appliances to elevate our consumers’ experiences with innovative features and functionalities”, said Jeong Seung Moon, EVP and Head of the R&D Team for Digital Appliances Business at Samsung Electronics. “Along with those efforts towards enhancing usability, we are expanding consumer options by developing screens of different sizes and products that effectively incorporate them.”

Diversifying Bespoke Refrigerators with a New, Compact Screen and Enhanced Features

By offering a diverse selection of products with varying screen sizes, Samsung aims to enhance usability for consumers while also realising an interconnected smart home. Supporting voice control via Bixby[3], the screens on Samsung appliances showcase essential information about the task such as internal temperature or washing cycle information, in an intuitive and straightforward way. Moreover, the Map View feature is a key differentiator, allowing the screens to function as simplified, convenient control hubs where users can monitor and control their connected appliances[4] from a single screen. Lastly, the screens provide various entertainment features through internet connection, expanding the roles played by home appliances within the domestic environment.[5]

In the kitchen, to complement the refrigerators with 21.5” and 32” Family Hubs[6] that are currently available, Samsung is unveiling the Bespoke Refrigerator with 9” AI Home, which caters to consumers seeking the Family Hub’s advanced features in a more compact size. Strengthening its role as a controlling hub, the updated Map View allows users to select modes for connected devices like the air conditioner and robot vacuum[7], and can be accessed directly from the home screen. Moreover, the 9” AI Home also functions as a hub for controlling third-party smart devices that are compatible with SmartThings, like lights and smart plugs[8]. Alongside these functionalities, users benefit from seamless access to features like SmartThings Energy[9] and built-in entertainment options.

Expanding Screen Solutions Across Various Product Categories

As an expansion of the availability of the AI Home screens in laundry products, Samsung is introducing the Bespoke AI Heat Pump Combo’s 7” AI Home screen to this year’s new Bespoke AI Washer and Dryer set. This screen makes laundry more efficient and convenient with intuitive menu navigation, real-time updates on washing cycles, and energy monitoring[10]. These advancements, along with helpful features like the aforementioned Map View⁸, enrich day-to-day experiences that users have with their appliances. In certain markets, the Bespoke AI Heat Pump Combo is also launching with a more compact 4.3” screen[11]. By adding the AI Home to a wider lineup and adopting diverse screen sizes, Samsung is continuing to expand options and choices for a wide variety of customer needs.

The 7” AI Home is also coming to cooking appliances as the Bespoke Wall Oven in the North American market now features a 7” AI Home screen, which was enabled through an over-the-network (OTN) Smart Forward update to an originally simple 7” interactive LCD screen[12]. The upgraded oven now features enhanced recipe recommendation[13] features and connectivity features that make for a truly ‘AI Home’. The AI Pro Cooking which originally recognised ingredients and recommended recipes for 80 guided cook menus, has now been upgraded to also feature ‘Customised Cook’ allowing users to add certain recipes they cook often[14]. The screen display’s pop-ups[15] recommend users to save the oven settings for frequently-cooked recipes, which users can also do manually after single use. Furthermore, key apps of the AI Home such as Map View, Gallery, and Weather have been added, allowing the Wall Oven to also function as a smart home hub and entertainment source. This upgrade modernises the user interface and aligns the appliance with Samsung’s broader smart ecosystem.

Availability of Samsung’s new 9” AI Home on Bespoke refrigerators and 7” AI Home for the Bespoke AI Washer & Dryer set are yet to be announced in Australia.

Samsung Electronics Co,. Ltd. has today received recognition for seven of its products across consumer electronics and mobile experience range at the 2024 Australian Good Design Awards.

The Less Microfiber Filter has been awarded the Good Design Award Gold accolade for demonstrating design excellence within the Domestic Appliances category. In addition, the Flex Door Oven with AI Camera and AI Family Hub French Door Refrigerator have received the Good Design Award Winner accolade for showcasing best product design in the domestic appliances category. Furthermore, the Galaxy Z Flip6, Galaxy Watch6 Classic, S95D OLED 4K Smart TV and Music Frame were recognised with the Good Design Award Winner accolade for best product design in the consumer electronics category.

This refrigerator boasts a 21.5-inch screen that features the new AI Vision Inside[5], which uses an internal camera to recognise up to 33 different food items that are put into and taken out of the refrigerator and suggests recipes using those ingredients. Users can also set ‘use by dates’ on the AI Family Hub screen for food items, which then allows the refrigerator to send a notification when the set date draws near[6]; conveniently helping to save money by reducing food waste.

New Samsung Electronics Report Reveals Major Generational Shift in Home Appliance Trends

Samsung Electronics Australia has today released the Australians @ Home Report: 2024 Smart Living Edition. The report’s findings reveal a generational shift in the perception of home appliances, particularly with Gen Z and Millennials.

According to the report, younger Australians are redefining what it means to have a stylish, yet functional home. No longer is an appliance a device for a particular purpose or use, but an object of status, and in some cases, attraction.

While appliance aesthetics are becoming a priority, the data also reveals that looks aren’t everything. Practicality amid a cost-of-living crunch also plays a major role in their purchase decision, increasing demand for a new category for smart, high-value appliances.

“Our Samsung Australians @ Home Report: 2024 Smart Living Edition reveals Millennials and Gen Z are leading the charge in redefining what it means to own and showcase home appliances,” said Jeremy Senior, Vice President – Consumer Electronics, Samsung Electronics Australia. “These insights demonstrate a clear generational divide. While energy savings are crucial for everyone, younger generations prioritise sleek design and smart AI functionality.

“At Samsung, we’ve been building intelligent connectivity and customisation into our appliances for over a decade to bring meaningful value to Australian lives. Though innovation, we’re able to offer all Australians appliances that can adapt, and increasingly learn individual preferences, to offer experiences that suit their unique lifestyles and meet their needs in a way that makes them proud.”

Appliance Envy is Rising

Having the latest technology or the coolest gadgets has been a leading trend for decades but hearing a friend rejoice over the latest fridge or vacuum hasn’t been common, until now.

As social media usage continues to generate an influx of ‘foodie’ cooking trends, it’s no surprise to see that the humble fridge is emerging as a particular source of personal pride. One quarter (25%) of Australians and over a third (34%) of Gen Z say they’re more likely to invite people over if they have a fancy fridge, highlighting a growing trend for modern appliances that are seen as status symbols, and how a stylish home environment is becoming a key factor in creating core memories.[4]

The data also suggests a rising sentiment of personal pride and envy attached to our appliances, particularly with younger people. Just as Australian’s may take pride in their lawns or barbeque set-up; the data shows similar affections being adopted towards household appliances.

More than a quarter (28%) of Australians say they prefer visiting friends and attending events in homes with modern, luxury or smart appliances. One quarter (25%) of all Australians and just under a third (32%) of Gen Z also say they feel embarrassed or judged for outdated or mismatched appliances.[5]

Interestingly, over a fifth (22%) of all Australians and a striking 36% of Gen Z say they’re even more attracted to people with luxury appliances, with some even expressing an emotional attachment to their appliances. This compares to 51% of Boomers who see appliance as ‘what they are’ and are least likely to discuss their appliances with friends compared to other generation.[6]

Practical elements more important than ever as cost-of-living bites

The rising desire for stylish appliances is balanced by the need for practicality, as cost-of-living pressures continue to dominate Australian households. Where aesthetics meets convenience, the findings show a new ‘high value’ appliance category emerge – sleek appliances that also make everyday life easier.

This comes as the Australians @ Home Report: 2024 Smart Living Edition shows that over half (51%) say high energy consumption is their number one appliance-related frustration, and almost all (94%) are making accommodations in the home to save energy amid the challenging economic climate.

Samsung’s SmartThings app bridges the gap between aesthetics and practicality by seamlessly connecting users to their appliances and allowing appliances to interact with each other. The app, alongside features like SmartThings Energy helps balance style and efficiency, promoting sustainable practices in modern homes.

Consumers are turning to smart, connected devices that save time and energy. Appliances like Samsung’s Bespoke AI Heat Pump combo can help address Australian’s number one appliance gripe – high energy consumption. Consuming up to 60% less energy with AI Energy Mode during the wash cycle[7][8] and 20% less during the dry cycle when compared to using the same cycle without AI Energy Mode; the range offers a smart, efficient choice for those looking to maximise potential savings on energy costs while maintaining a stylish and efficient home.[9]

While all generations are looking to reduce their carbon footprint, boomers, according to the report findings, are the most energy-conscious generation. This generation make additional effort to keep energy consumption down such as turning off devices (62%), using LED light bulbs (44%), and only using air conditioning or heating when it’s abnormally hot or cold (53%).

AI for all: paving the way for a bright, modern smart home

AI’s growing presence in home devices is captivating consumers, with the report showing a rising appetite for smart technology.

Australians recognise that intelligent appliances have the biggest impact when they’re linked together as part of an ecosystem, and they demonstrate a fast-growing taste for more intelligent and connected smart home experiences.

“While almost half of Australians (47%) have told us that AI-enabled features are a priority when it comes to new appliances[10], it’s Gen Z Australians who are really pushing the boundaries of what’s expected from their home appliances.

“This generation can see the potential for appliances with AI technologies to empower them to take control of things that matter most to them, such as energy management and food waste reduction. Samsung is invigorated by Australian consumers’ appetite for stylish, connected and customisable appliances, and looks forward to continuing to provide solutions that reshape industry standards,” Mr. Senior concludes.

Samsung Electronics Australia is further empowering Australians to cook with ease as its new state-of-the-art built-in cooking range becomes available today.

The robust line-up features ovens, cooktops, dishwashers and range hoods that work together seamlessly via Samsung’s SmartThings[1] app to make the cooking journey simpler and more intelligent, enabling Australians to save time in the kitchen and spend it where it matters most. [2]

To mark the launch, Samsung Electronics Australia has unveiled almost half (43%) of Australians are cooking at home more than they used to. Increased time in the kitchen means Australians are spending around 260 hours per year cooking, putting the need for intelligent and easy-to-use technology front of mind. [3]

With advanced technology and AI, and increased usability[4], the range is designed to help boost confidence among home chefs. Combining powerful intelligence with innovative cooking technologies, the new range is set to help Australians prepare meals like a master chef. Samsung SmartThings brings better connectivity to the kitchen

Powered by Samsung’s SmartThings[6], the built-in-cooking range is complete with Wi-Fi connectivity to give Australians control and accuracy over their mealtime creations, further empowering the 7 in 10 Australians who already use technology whilst cooking in the kitchen.[7] Users can remotely monitor and control their compatible oven, cooktop, and range hood from their smartphone at the touch of a button, to ensure each meal is prepared as intended.

Working in conjunction with SmartThings, the oven’s integrated AI camera can also detect if food is burning and sends a notification to the user’s phone, offering them the option to turn down the temperature, or turn off the heat completely. A feature that will appeal to the 4 in 5 Australians who admitted the most common mistakes made when cooking is overcooking (43%) and burning food (32%). [8]

Built-in line simplifies cooking at home

In addition to mistakes made in the kitchen, a lack of time was the reason that almost half of Australians (46%) don’t cook at home. With 95% admitting to starting the week with the best intentions of cooking, but lost enthusiasm past Monday. In fact, 1 in 4 confessed to impulsively opting for the convenience of food delivery, despite planning to cook at home.[9]

The built-in cooking range will form part of Samsung’s growing Bespoke range, further facilitating stylish and unique looks in Australians’ kitchens.

Wi-Fi Connected: Allowing Australians to remotely monitor and control their oven, cooktop and range hood from their smartphone – whether it be to pre-heat on the way home, through to auto-cook settings from the comfort of their couch.
AI Pro Cooking[10]: With a built-in AI camera, end-to-end professional quality cooking will be made easy, fun and shareable. Without needing to open the oven door, cooking can be optimised through recipe selection, and post-cook highlight videos created to share with friends or across social media.
Dual Cook Flex: Selected oven models will include two compartments that can be set to two different temperatures, as well as when multi-cooking a flexible door means one zone can be checked without interrupting the other – providing both time and energy efficiencies (when only using the top half).
