Now, by combining Galaxy AI with Samsung Health, new health features will provide you with comprehensive insights, along with motivational encouragement to help you improve your daily wellness. With Energy Score[2], you can receive a better understanding of your daily patterns through a combined analysis of your sleep time average, sleep time consistency, bed/wake time consistency, sleep timing, previous day activity, sleeping heart rate and heart rate variability[3] to help you take on your day. Plus, Wellness Tips[4] can help you reach your personal health goals by offering insights, motivational tips and guidance based on the specific goal you’re looking to achieve.

Greater precision and accuracy

Accurate and comprehensive metrics are foundational to the best intelligent health experiences. Enhanced health algorithms and advanced tracking tools will provide more holistic, personalised and actionable insights when combined with AI. Since good health starts with a good night’s rest, Samsung is enhancing our sleep AI algorithm to provide additional in-depth sleep insights. Newly added sleep indicators for Sleep Insights[5] offer you a more detailed and accurate analysis of your sleep quality so you can better understand your sleep patterns and build better habits. These added metrics include movement during sleep, sleep latency, heart rate and respiratory rate during sleep in addition to previously supported metrics like snoring hours, blood oxygen level and sleep cycle.

All-new fitness features offer intelligent and effortless physical capacity measurements for more tailored training, which are traditionally provided by highly advanced equipment. In addition to the five running intensity levels of the Personalised Health Rate Zone, new detailed Aerobic Threshold (AT) / Anaerobic Threshold (AnT) Heart Rate Zone[6] metrics support efficient running while also quickly analysing performance. Plus, cyclists can easily calculate Functional Threshold Power (FTP) metrics in just 10 minutes[7] and train like a pro by using a personalised power index based on AI data analysis to maximise performance. Fitness tracking tools also help you track workouts and progress with greater convenience. With the new Workout Routine, combine various exercises for a personalised workout and seamlessly transition to the next exercise without stopping. Stay motivated and track your progress when running or cycling using Race[8], which compares current and past performance on the same routes.

These new features will be available on the next Galaxy Watch line-up via One UI 6 Watch, available later this year. [6] Personalisation of Heart Rate Zone enabled when selecting outdoor run activity. It is required to run consistently for more than 10 minutes with speeds of 4km/h or faster.

[7] To measure personalised FTP, Galaxy smartphone must be connected to a power meter. In order to calculate a more accurate FTP, it is necessary to connect the Galaxy Watch to a smartphone. The FTP is calculated automatically when cycling occurs at a mid to high intensity level for more than 4 minutes with the cycling power meter attached to your bicycle. Using machine learning, the more users ride repeatedly, the more accurate and personalised FTP values will be calculated. The cycling power meter is sold separately. Traditional FTP analysis duration on professional equipment is up to 1 hour on average.

[8] Race is available for outdoor running and outdoor cycling only. For comparative measurements, it is required to run on the same path as the pre-generated path. Users can compare by selecting one of the records from a timeframe of up to 14 days ago. Comparing records through the Race is only available when starting at the same location as the previous record’s start point. It will be converted to the running mode automatically, if the starting points are different.

Developing the Galaxy S24 series has been the most rewarding period of my career. As an engineer, I have witnessed many examples of incredible innovations, but AI is the most transformative technology of the century. Few engineers get the chance to be involved in something with such seismic potential. It brings great change, not only for Samsung and the mobile industry, but for all humankind.

When integrated into phones, AI, is to put it simply, a revolution. This is a new era for mobile experiences and Samsung Galaxy has a leading role to play in it. Mobile devices will become the primary access point for AI, and Samsung Galaxy – with our broad and comprehensive product portfolio, heritage of innovation, and philosophy of open collaboration – is in a great position to accelerate its global expansion. Since the launch of Galaxy S24 series, we’ve had great feedback about how people actually use Galaxy AI features in their daily lives. One of the most welcomed AI features is Circle to Search[2] with Google, an incredible new tool for intuitive discovery. Our communication tools for removing language barriers, such as Live Translate[3], Chat Assist[4] and Interpreter, have captured the imagination of many. People also love Photo Assist[5], our tools for creativity powered by our ProVisual Engine.

Again, we’re only getting started. While developing the Galaxy S24 series, we had many ideas and concepts that we wanted to bring to life. Galaxy users will be able to enjoy more Galaxy AI features that build on these ideas and concepts over time as Samsung continuously enhances and grows the mobile AI experiences[6].

Moreover, we are already planning next steps for Galaxy AI beyond smartphones – optimizing it for various categories of devices, across various services. In the near future, the select Galaxy wearables will use AI to enhance digital health and unlock a whole new era of expanded intelligent health experiences. Over the past year, we frequently asked ourselves what users want or need and what they could achieve with a little assistance. These questions inspired the Galaxy S24 series, our first AI phone that invites users to imagine how their lives could change thanks to AI. It is the phone of the future, shaping the standard of mobile AI and defining this emerging category of AI phones.

Of course, there are challenges and responsibilities to consider. AI models in training are still susceptible to hallucinations, and the debate on intellectual property rights continues. It is crucial that companies openly collaborate to carefully define AI experiences, so users can confidently and reliably enjoy their new abilities.

It’s also important to raise the standards of security in this new era of data-intensive mobile experiences. That is one of the reasons we’ve taken a hybrid approach that combines on-device and cloud-based AI. Besides helping to ensure seamless usability, this lets users limit some features to function entirely on-device, giving them greater control over what they do with their data. We remain committed to enhancing Galaxy device security by providing users with transparency and choice.

In this new era of mobile AI, it is no longer a question of what any phone can do, but what individuals can achieve with the right tools. Galaxy S24 series provides just some of those tools and I can’t wait to see what you will do with them. It is you who decides what’s possible, useful, and meaningful. OH is common among PD patients and can increase the risk of falls for those in the elderly age group and may already have existing cardiovascular diseases. Measuring blood pressure (BP) frequently can help detect critical fluctuations for diagnosing and managing PD.

Samsung’s Galaxy Watch3, Galaxy Watch Active2 and the latest Galaxy Watch4 feature sophisticated sensors that can monitor BP through pulse wave analysis, which is tracked with Heart Rate Monitoring sensors. Users can closely monitor their blood pressure and other vitals in the Samsung Health Monitor app and share them with medical professionals in a PDF file format during consultations.[1]

A research team at the Samsung Medical Center, led by Dr. Jin Whan Cho and Dr. Jong Hyeon Ahn, compared BP measurements collected by the Galaxy Watch3 with those measured by a sphygmomanometer to compare accuracy. The test found that using Galaxy Watch3—which is more portable and convenient than a conventional sphygmomanometer—allows PD patients to measure their BP wherever and whenever they need to, and easily track any BP fluctuation.

The test was conducted on 56 patients—with a mean age of 66.9—with a sphygmomanometer reference on one arm and the Galaxy Watch3 on the other. Each patient had their BP measured with both devices three times.

The findings show that BP measured by both the Galaxy Watch and the sphygmomanometer were comparable. The mean and standard deviation of the differences were 0.4 ± 4.6 mmHg for systolic BP (SBP) and 1.1 ± 4.5 mmHg for diastolic BP (DBP). The correlation coefficient (r) between the two devices was 0.967 for SBP and 0.916 for DBP. The closer the correlation coefficient is to 1, the more  the two devices track each other.

The research team said, “Orthostatic hypotension is a common and challenging symptom that affects people living with PD. But it is hard to screen just by observing symptoms, and the problem may go undetected when measuring BP.” The team added: “If we could use a smartwatch to measure patients’ BP regularly and detect potential issues at an early stage, it would really help treat and manage PD.”

The study, led by Dr. Cho and Dr. Ahn’s research team, titled “Validation of Blood Pressure Measurement Using a Smartwatch in Patients with Parkinson’s Disease,” was published in the latest issue of the leading medical journal Frontiers in Neurology.
