Samsung’s Clash of Commuters challenges Fortnite[1] fans to level up and win loot IRL

Samsung’s Gaming Research[2] shows that 48% of Aussie gamers selected smartphones as their most frequent gaming device, with over 55% turning to gaming as a means of relaxation.

Samsung Electronics Australia has today launched Clash of Commuters, a new experience that offers gamers the opportunity to play a uniquely Australian and public transport inspired map in Fortnite Creative[3], featuring national icons from the humble Bin Chicken to a Sydney train.

With 44% of Aussie gamers admitting they game while commuting to pass the time, the Clash of Commuters map enables players to experience an all-new Fortnite Creative island and allows them to defend the very thing that they commonly game on; Australian public transport.

From 2 May to 30 May, players will also have the opportunity to win Samsung swag IRL by participating in the Clash of Commuters competition[4]. Gamers will need to defend an Aussie public bus across 5 checkpoints as it meanders through a dystopian Australian commute, complete with bin chickens, servos and caffeine-starved commuters, for their chance to win. Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, with its realistic graphics, lifelike visuals, and Samsung’s most powerful chipset to date, has been designed to meet the high performance demands of gamers. These devices will be hidden throughout the map, with players able to unlock special bonuses if they find them.

The player who completes all five rounds of the Clash of Commuters campaign in the shortest amount of time (The Shortest Haul) will be eligible to win a Samsung gaming pack worth over $8,000, which includes a 55” QN90D NEO QLED TV, 57” Odyssey Neo G95NC Curved Monitor, Galaxy S24 Ultra and Galaxy Buds2 Pro. There will also be additional prize packs for the fastest player to complete the campaign on a mobile device (The Ultimate On-The-Go Gamer), the most side quest phones acquired (Seat Scavenger), as well as four winners drawn at random from all completed time submissions (Regular Riders).

Recent research conducted by Samsung Electronics Australia sheds light on the preferences of Aussie gamers, with 48% listing smartphones as the device they game on most frequently, surpassing consoles (26%), desktops and laptops (24%), and other devices (3%). Moreover, for over 55% of Australian gamers, gaming serves as a means of relaxation, with one-third saying they game as a means of de-stressing.

Nathan Rigger, Head of Product & Services Mobile at Samsung Australia, said: “More than ever before, Australians are looking to their smartphones for entertainment and as an escape from the daily grind, and gaming is a great way to tick both of those boxes. With advanced ray-tracing features and a bigger[5] vapour cooling chamber, the Galaxy S24 Ultra is optimised to create a seamless gaming experience, allowing Australians to keep up with their favourite games, regardless if they are at home, or on the go.”

In Melbourne and Sydney, Samsung will be bringing the Clash of Commuters map to life and giving everyday Australians a chance to experience game play on the Galaxy S24 Ultra at interactive pop-up activations. Players and passers-by will be able to explore a post-apocalyptic public transport world and play the new map at Sydney’s Parramatta Square from Saturday 4 May to Wednesday 8 May, before the activation heads over to Melbourne’s Southern Cross Station from Saturday 11 May through Wednesday 15 May.

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. today announced the Australian launch of Odyssey Neo G7 (Model name: G70NC), the company’s first flat Mini-LED model, adding a new form factor to the industry-leading Odyssey lineup. The new monitor delivers a large screen designed to give gamers a more comprehensive range of vision and details – inviting them to explore the worlds of their games with near life-like picture quality.

“The evolution of our Odyssey range isn’t just about delivering a bigger and better gaming experience. It’s about providing all-in-one solutions for multiplayers to get the most out of game consoles and PC rigs,” says Phil Gaut, Senior Director of Display, and Brand Memory, Samsung Electronics Australia. “Smart TV capabilities paired with Mini-LED technology on this expansive 43” display, enables players to fully immerse themselves in their games and enhance their emotional experiences.”

The Samsung Odyssey Neo G7 is designed to help deliver astounding picture quality, a customisable high-performance viewing environment, and personalised features for optimal gaming and entertainment.

A Gaming Monitor Big Enough for Any Game and Platform

The large 43” screen delivers 4K resolution (3,840 x 2,160) with VESA Display HDR600 and HDR 10+ certification for advanced picture quality showcasing some of the best graphics of today. The Odyssey Neo G7 brings Samsung’s Quantum Matrix Technology to the fore, using Quantum Mini LEDs, which enable ultra-fine and precise control of the densely packed LEDs. As a result, users can see richer blacks, more expansive colour expression and more detail, even in shadowy gaming environments.

Additionally the Matte Display reduces light reflection on the screen, minimising distractions during the most intense gaming sessions and letting the large screen deliver details while keeping the player focused on the game and the stunning visual performance.

The Odyssey Neo G7, is a great monitor for any gaming platform – using DisplayPort or HDMI connection to hook it up to the users’ Gaming rig or switch to HDMI 2.1 to play on their latest game console. Another option is to play a mobile game on a larger 43” screen through the built-in WIFI/ Bluetooth or just connect a third-party controller to enjoy a game in the cloud without even having a console.

Performance to Take Gaming to the Next Level

A 144Hz refresh rate and 1ms (MPRT) response time allows a swift, smooth response and enables precise mouse movements. Even during the most intense moments, the Odyssey Neo G7 keeps extremely smooth and fast action gameplay and reduces stuttering, input latency and screen tearing through AMD FreeSync Premium Pro support.

The Odyssey Neo G7 provides a range of innovative features that allows gamers to customise their gaming experiences such as adjusting the screen size, position, and even screen ratio for a personalised gaming setup. Flex Move Screen allows gamers to adjust the screen size between 43- and 20-inches to match their preferred size based on the game they play, and even change the screen position so they can always perform at their best.

To further personalise their performance, gamers can use Samsung Game Bar[1] to quickly view and change important settings without ever needing to leave the game screen. Players can see and change FPS (Frames Per Second), aspect ratio, high dynamic range (HDR), and variable refresh rate (VRR), or adjust settings such as response time and Game Picture mode.

Odyssey Neo G7 – image simulated for illustrative purposes.

Smart Features for Personalised Experiences

The Odyssey Neo G7 is equipped with Samsung Smart Hub – a centralised hub experience that brings Entertainment, Gaming, and SmartThings together in one place. With Smart Hub built-in, content curation and discovery is front and centre, enabling gamers to spend less time searching and more time streaming the movies, shows and games[2] they enjoy.

Accessing a high-quality Smart TV experience on the Odyssey Neo G7, gamers can enjoy numerous over-the-top (OTT) content apps such as Prime Video, Netflix, and YouTube[3]. Furthermore, Samsung’s Tizen OS-powered entertainment hub delivers access to Samsung TV Plus[4], the brand’s free ad-supported TV (FAST) and video-on-demand service that offers 90+ channels in Australia and thousands of shows and movies on-demand.

Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd has released findings from its Southeast Asia and Oceania (SEAO) Gaming Insight Study, which found that 7 in 10 online consumers in the region are gamers. Conducted in partnership with ONE Esports, over 6,800 consumers aged 18 to 49 across seven markets (Australia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam) were surveyed in the last quarter of 2022[1], showing a widespread love for gaming whether at home or on-the-go.

Across the region, playing to de-stress and relax was cited as the top reason for gaming (74%), with an average of 7 hours a week spent on gaming. Most gamers (92%) preferred to engage in gameplay from the comfort of their home, and over half of gamers (58%) were found to spend an average of USD $30 monthly on gaming-related purchases such as exclusive online content, esports tournament tickets, streamer subscription, skins, and merchandise collectibles.

The study identified four distinct gamer personalities among gaming fans in this region – Hardcore Gamers, Gaming Enthusiasts, Casual Gamers & Spectators, as well as Casual Gamers, based on their total time spent playing games and watching gaming or esports content. The study found that more than half of gamers surveyed (56%) indulge in this pastime at least a few times a week, consisting of Hardcore Gamers and Gaming Enthusiasts (See chart below).

Fresh from unveiling its 2023 lineup at CES 2023, Samsung Electronics has today announced the availability of the Samsung Odyssey G6 (G65B) in Australia – the brand’s first 27-inch and 32-inch gaming monitor to pair blistering fast refresh rates and pin-sharp QHD resolution with Smart TV features. The Odyssey G6 easily transforms from a gaming monitor to a Smart TV, giving gamers direct access to their favourite streaming services[1] without compromising gaming performance.

With entertainment and gaming the two most common uses for monitors outside of work[2], Samsung has developed the Odyssey G6 to deliver high refresh rates and low latency, and exceptional contrast and colour, in a 1000R curved display for a truly immersive multi-content experience.

“As seen at CES, our 2023 Odyssey Gaming Monitor range focuses on delivering exceptional speed and image quality with a range of innovative features that now means you can game, work and watch from an all-in-one Monitor display,” said Phil Gaut, Senior Director of Display and Brand Memory Samsung Australia. “In combining game-winning features with Smart TV options, the Odyssey G6 is a one-stop gaming monitor that personalises home entertainment experiences without compromising on the gaming performance that Odyssey is known for.”

Slick Gameplay and Spell-Binding Visuals

The Odyssey G6 boasts an ultra-smooth 240Hz refresh rate, 1ms response time (GtG), and AMD FreeSync Premium Pro, reducing screen tearing and input latency, providing a near flawless gaming experience and an ultra-reactive competitive edge. With its QHD resolution packing 1.7 times the pixel density of FHD paired with DisplayHDR600, the Odyssey G6 makes gaming worlds appear almost life-like via bright colours and deep contrast images. Vivid scenes wrap even more tightly around gamers via the 1000R curved display that helps to fill peripheral vision and draws gamers into their virtual avatar’s shoes.

The Odyssey G6 features Game Bar, enabling players to easily check and control game settings such as FPS or HDR, modify response time or screen ratio, as well as the game picture mode without interrupting play. To provide a competitive edge, screen ratios can extend from 16.9 to an ultra-wide 21.9 game view, providing more content to bring gamers closer to the top of the leaderboard.

Smart TV enters the realm of gaming

The Odyssey G6 brings Samsung’s Smart TV Hub to a 27 and 32-inch gaming monitor form factor for the first time, offering flexibility and value to gamers looking to switch between their go-to games and streaming their favourite shows with no downloads or sign-ups[3].

Users can wirelessly connect to a Windows or Mac PC, use Samsung DeX or AirPlay 2 to mirror their screen use, or access Microsoft 365 cloud services[4] for work productivity. Furthermore, the Odyssey G6 is equipped with a high-sensitivity Far Field Voice microphone, allowing gamers to control the device with voice assistants such as Bixby. The Always On Voice[5] function allows users to interact with Bixby even when the monitor is turned off, while displaying conversation related information on the monitor’s screen.

For comfort and convenience, the Odyssey G6 features a VESA-standard ergonomic stand that can swivel, tilt and adjust to the optimum height for gaming or content consumption.
