SmartThings’ open platform offers one of the largest integrated ecosystems, and Matter-certified products will be rolled out across brands including Google Nest, Eve Systems, Nanoleaf, Yale, and more.

SmartThings’ Matter Controller support will begin with the second and third generations of the SmartThings Hub, as well as the Aeotec Smart Home Hub. All hubs will continue to support Zigbee, Z-Wave, and Local Area Network devices, including Wi-Fi and Ethernet, and will be upgraded over-the-network to enable support for Wi-Fi, Ethernet, and Thread-based Matter devices.[5]

“We are committed to maintaining support for existing protocols while also helping the industry transition to a future built on Matter,” said Mark Tekippe, Vice President of Product at SmartThings and Connectivity Standards Alliance Board Member. “SmartThings has always provided customers with flexible connectivity options including Zigbee and Z-Wave. Adding support for Matter and Thread helps to ensure SmartThings remains a versatile ecosystem for consumers looking to build or expand their smart homes.”

Samsung Electronics Australia, in partnership with Tech Research Asia (TRA), has today announced the launch of 5G for Business in Australia, a research

Samsung Electronics Australia, in partnership with Tech Research Asia (TRA), has today announced the launch of 5G for Business in Australia, a research report and whitepaper designed to explore how the advent of 5G networks, devices and services can support the goals of Australian businesses. The report also explores perceptions, awareness and levels of understanding that Australian business hold in relation to the availability and advent of 5G mobile technology.

5G for Business in Australia research methodology delved into the views of more than 800 technology decision makers from a cross-section of industries to help shape a view of how businesses are considering the implications of 5G and their readiness to adopt.

The report revealed that almost a quarter (24%) of businesses in Australia intend to adopt 5G services for business in the coming 18 months, with almost 80% of Australian businesses set to adopt 5G related mobility services within the next three years. These findings set the tone for the potential roadmap of adoption of 5G by Australian businesses.

Danny Mandrides, Head of Enterprise and Government, IT and Mobile, Samsung Electronics Australia said: “There is no doubt that 5G is both a trigger and an engine that will transform the way Australians live and work, but also how businesses operate in an increasingly mobile driven economy. Now more than ever before Australian businesses are telling us that they demand the bandwidth, stability, and opportunities that 5G will bring.

“At Samsung, we want to help ensure our customers and partners develop the best possible approach to adopting the latest in network and device services and this includes building our respective understanding for how innovations in 5G can help break barriers and solve real challenges for Australian organisations,” Mandrides added.

The report also explores the potential concerns and barriers that organisations are considering in relation to 5G, as well as the perceived benefits of the greater 5G connectivity, network availability, and device capability that it will offer workforces.

Key findings have also revealed a keen interest in the potential applications of 5G mobile devices, as well as Fixed Wireless Access (FWA). Approximately 37% of Australian businesses are taking a “Considered” approach to 5G adoption, while 24% are being either “Aggressive” (at 12%) or “Opportunistic” (at 12%) in terms of rapid or early adoption of 5G respectively. 18% of participants said that their adoption plans would be “Gradual” and in line with network deployments while 16% stated that they have no specific strategy until 5G is “Ubiquitous”. Just 4% of respondents classified their approach to 5G in a “Deliberation” stage where they are needing to determine the actual benefits and availability of 5G.

Tim Dillon, Founder and Director at TRA said: “Australian businesses are at the global forefront in terms of their position to be leaders in exploring new territories and capabilities associated with 5G powered products and services. We will see rapid change in the coming years for how people bolster their business operations and strategy with 5G powered services.

“There is naturally a degree of intrigue, interest, excitement, and keenness from businesses to understand how they should be thinking about what the future may bring, which is why it’s critical they build their understanding of 5G and develop a plan that can be actioned to deliver solid outcomes and avoid potential pitfalls or redundant investments,” Dillon added.

Australian businesses recognised that the benefit of 5G extends beyond speed, including other major capabilities such as edge computing, multi-device connectivity, low network latency and network slicing. Organisations see 5G enhancing their current and future operations in areas including customer engagement, data access and management, supporting cloud services consumption and facilitation of intelligent workplaces.

“It’s incredibly important for Samsung to ensure that we understand the needs of Australian business and where our 5G enabled products, solutions, and partnerships can provide value and enrich their operations in next stage of our mobile economy,” Mandrides added.

5G for Business in Australia includes a 5G readiness checklist designed to help businesses better understand the key factors involved in making decisions related to the next stage in network connectivity. The checklist considers the role and impact of devices, network deployment, existing and planned digital strategies, workplace environments, compliance and other key elements that businesses may wish to take into account.

Australian businesses recognise the need for 5G services

68% of Australian businesses feel that their operations are constrained by current network performance, and 60% of businesses feel there is a need for 5G services to meet business needs above current 4G connectivity.

While early 5G solutions implemented by businesses will focus on bandwidth-centric approaches, the report has indicated that they will seek to quickly develop and integrate higher value-added solutions such as slicing and edge computing. These solutions present the opportunity to implement IoT, AI-supported decision-making tools, predictive analytics and real-time data.

Despite the strong rates of expected adoption, the report identified that 1 in 2 (50%) of Australian businesses feel they require additional information to understand exactly why 5G is a better solution than current 4G. Businesses are also anticipating some challenges during the adoption of 5G services, specifically around pricing, device availability and network coverage.

In addition to research and insights, Samsung has announced that it is already collaborating with a number of Australian organisations in relation to trial mobility programs that involve 5G.

5G is already impacting Australian business through collaboration with Samsung:

Improved customer service and engagement in the consumer banking sector: A major Australian bank is trialling 5G branch connectivity linked to smartphones and Samsung’s DeX solution, ensuring seamless connectivity and information access for its mobile customer service and banking employees.

Data management, information access, health and safety/asset protection for government and emergency services: An Australian AI company that has created 5G connected drones to undertake aerial surveillance of areas under bush fire threat equipped with AI to identify issues and assets on the ground in real-time to assist emergency service and fire crews.

Intelligent workstyles, costs reductions and efficiencies in the manufacturing sector: A production site connecting multiple device sensors combined with AI analytics to a smart device dashboard app that provides real-time information on manufacturing performance and quality to reduce defects and materials costs.

How Australian businesses can be 5G ready

Every organisation is different and will take a unique approach to adoption. The 5G for Business in Australia report advises businesses to consider several factors to inform its approach to the adoption of 5G technology.

Businesses should:

1. Understand network deployment and handset availability

2. Determine unique device needs

3. Understand the service provider’s 5G strategy

4. Consider how 5G compliments the company’s overall digital strategy

5. Determine all possible business cases

6. Understand how future data needs may change

Samsung Electronics Australia has expanded its iconic connected refrigerator offering with the arrival of the next generation Family Hub. Powered by the new Family Hub 4.0 software update – now available to download across the entire Family Hub range¹ – and offering a whopping 825 litres of space, the SRF825BFH4 is Samsung’s largest and most advanced refrigerator yet.

From revealing its contents with the swipe of two fingers down on its stunning 21.5-inch touchscreen to being able to control a wider range of connected devices directly from the kitchen, the new Family Hub builds on Samsung’s evolving connected ecosystem of products and services.

“With our fourth iteration of the Family Hub, we’re harnessing the best in Samsung software and hardware innovation to deliver a beautifully designed refrigerator to help make day to day family management easier,” said Jeremy Senior, Head of Consumer Electronics, Samsung Electronics Australia. “We’ve been developing and refining the Family Hub since 2015, which uniquely positions us to respond to Australians’ feedback, offering an amazing smart fridge experience that continues to meets the needs of Australian’s busy lifestyles.”

Family Hub 4.0 enhances the connected home experience through phone mirroring support, which allows the Family Hub to answer calls and control third-party apps from a compatible Galaxy S smartphone.²

The new Family Hub continues to drive food management innovation. In addition to the updates to the ‘swipe down’ to View Inside functionality, healthy recipes, shopping lists, there is also the ability to tag items with reminders and expiration dates.

The new SRF825BFH4 also features the flexibility and convenience of a convertible fridge/freezer space, as well as premium speakers for an enhanced in-kitchen entertainment experience, whether catching up on Netflix or dancing to a favourite cooking playlist.

Users can ask the Bixby voice command to assist and help with a range of day-to-day tasks, from finding the nearest restaurant to checking tomorrow’s forecast, or connect the family by sharing notes, pictures, videos, and music via the new Family Board functionality.

Whether swiping the Family Hub screen in search of snacks, checking who’s at the front door through a SmartThings compatible Ring video doorbell, tracking expiration dates to reduce food wastage, or asking Bixby to find out what to cook tonight, the new SRF825BFH4 and Family Hub 4.0 software delivers the next evolution in the smart home experience.

Samsung Electronics Australia today announced that the highly anticipated Samsung Galaxy S10 5G will be available in Australia from May 28 through Telstra and Samsung Experience Stores. The Galaxy S10 5G is the first product of its kind for Samsung that introduces new features to the Galaxy S10 range including a larger screen, incredible camera functionality for photography and videos and a bigger battery¹.

Telstra customers who purchased the Galaxy S10+ during the eligibility period earlier this year will be able to upgrade to the Galaxy S10 5G at no additional cost. These customers will have 21 days from May 28 to redeem the offer.²

The Galaxy S10 5G builds on the most popular features of the Galaxy S10 range which celebrates a decade since the launch of the first Galaxy smartphone. It has been designed for users who want access to the ultimate Samsung device performance and combines 5G and 4GX network capabilities to help provide customers with high-speed mobile wherever 5G and 4GX is available³. It also delivers the richest feature set ever offered in a Galaxy smartphone, including a 6.7-inch Infinity-O Display⁴, 4,500mAh battery with Super Fast charging capability, ⁵ and an incredible camera experience.

Featuring six cameras enhanced with intelligence so users can take incredible photos and video. The 16MP Ultra Wide Camera captures a 123 degree field of vision so users can photograph a stunning range of content from expansive landscapes, to fun social settings. The camera also offers Live Focus video which helps to focus and create bokeh effects to make the subject stand out. With a new 3D Depth Camera, users can also detect depth, distance, height and length of objects within in the camera’s vision using Quick Measure.

The Galaxy S10 5G rear camera capabilities received an overall DxOMark of 112, with a score of 117 for its amazing still camera performance, as well as being the first smartphone to receive a DxOMark of 100 for its video camera capabilities⁶. The front selfie camera scored 97.⁷

Garry McGregor, Vice President of IT and Mobile, Samsung Electronics Australia said:

“The Galaxy S10 5G is designed to perform at a level that we have never before seen in a Samsung device. From its 3D Depth Camera to 5G network capability, we’re delivering the ultimate in terms of innovation, design, and experience.”

“This is the most anticipated device Samsung has ever launched in Australia as it combines additions to our amazing Galaxy range but also opens the door to the opportunities that 5G experiences will bring people in future.”

“With this upcoming launch, we are delivering on years of collaboration with Telstra to help break new ground in device and network performance.” McGregor added.

Telstra Consumer Segment Executive Kevin Teoh said the launch of Australia’s first 5G-enabled smartphone would mark the beginning of a new mobile era.

“This will be a game-changing moment for our customers. Telstra has been building Australia’s first 5G technology for some time, and now our customers are ready to be the first in Australia to experience this technology in the areas where 5G is now available,” Mr Teoh said.

“5G-enabled devices are the next step towards customers experiencing the potential of this revolutionary network technology. Faster downloads, high resolution video streaming with less buffering and better mobile gaming on the go are just the start of the network technology’s possibilities. 5G also has the potential to transform the way we all live and work.”

Out-of-the-box, the Galaxy S10 5G will also unlock new experiences for customers thanks to high speed download speeds made possible through the 5G network.3 For example, the ability to download a full-length feature movie to your mobile device in seconds and enhancing applications that demand high volumes of data like AR, VR, gaming and video conferencing.

The device will be available with 256GB or 512GB memory variants. Two colour options will also be available, these being Crown Silver for the 256GB variant, or Majestic Black for the 256GB and 512GB variants.

Mobile plans will be announced closer to the local on-sale date of May 28.

Note:

Telstra initially is deploying 5G into its mobile network in the major capital city CBDs and other select high traffic areas and will be progressively rolling out to other areas. Find out more about Telstra’s 5G at www.telstra.com.au/coverage-networks/5G.

Celebrating a decade since the launch of the first Galaxy S, Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. introduces a new line of premium smartphones: Galaxy S10. With four unique devices, the Galaxy S10 line is engineered to meet the distinct needs of today’s smartphone market, so consumers can do more of what they love. Each device delivers a next-generation experience in the categories consumers care about most: groundbreaking innovations in display, camera and performance.

A testament to a decade of innovations, Galaxy S10 is designed for those who want a premium smartphone with powerful performance and sets the stage for the next generation of mobile experiences. For consumers looking for a supercharged device, Galaxy S10+ takes every spec – from display, to camera, to performance – to the next level. Galaxy S10e is built for those who want all the premium essentials in a compact package on a flat screen. Finally, Galaxy S10 5G is created for those who want more of everything and are ready for the fastest available speeds and the most powerful features. Featuring the all-new Dynamic AMOLED display, next-generation camera, and intelligent performance, the Galaxy S10 line offers consumers more choices and sets a new standard for the smartphone.

“Since its launch ten years ago, the Galaxy S series has stood for premium innovation – offering consumers an incredible experience, and the ability to find the device that’s right for them,” said DJ Koh, President and CEO of IT & Mobile Communications Division, Samsung Electronics. “Galaxy S10 builds on that incredible legacy, and delivers breakthrough display, camera, and performance innovations. With four premium devices, each built for a unique consumer in mind, Samsung is leveraging a decade of industry leadership to usher in a new era of smartphone technology.”

Introducing the Dynamic AMOLED Display: Full Screen Experience with Ultrasonic Fingerprint Scanner

Galaxy S10 is made with Samsung’s best screen yet, the world’s first Dynamic AMOLED display. As the first HDR10+-certified smartphone, the display delivers vivid digital content, and with dynamic tone mapping, you’ll see a wider range of color for a brilliant, realistic picture. Galaxy S10’s Dynamic AMOLED display is also VDE-certified for vibrant bright colors1and extraordinary contrast ratio for even deeper blacks and brighter whites.2
Verified by DisplayMate, you’ll also enjoy exceptionally accurate colors on your mobile device3– even in harsh sunlight. What’s more, the Dynamic AMOLED display also reduces blue light through its TÜV Rheinland-certified Eye Comfort display4 without compromising picture quality or adding a filter.

The result of a groundbreaking engineering process, Galaxy S10’s unique Infinity-O Display packs an array of sensors and camera technology into a hole-in display – so you can maximize your screen real estate without any distractions.

Galaxy S10’s Dynamic AMOLED display also includes the first-ever in-display Ultrasonic Fingerprint Scanner5that reads the 3D contours of your physical thumbprint – not a 2D image of it – for improved anti-spoofing. With the world’s first FIDO Alliance Biometric Component certification, this next generation biometrics authentication offers vault-like security to keep your device safe.

Pro-Grade Camera

Building on Samsung’s camera leadership of Dual Pixel and Dual Aperture firsts, Galaxy S10 introduces new camera technology and advanced intelligence that makes it easy to take epic shots and videos:

· Ultra Wide Lens: A first for the S Series, Galaxy S10 offers an Ultra Wide Lens with a 123-degree field of view, like the human eye, so what you see is what’s in frame. Perfect for impressive landscape shots, big panoramas and even fitting the entire extended family into the photo, the Ultra Wide Lens ensures that you’ll always be able to capture the full scene.

· Super Steady & High-Quality Video Recording: Galaxy S10 offers Super Steady recording with digital stabilization technology. Whether you’re dancing in the middle of an amazing concert or trying to record every detail of a bumpy bike ride, Super Steady allows you to capture the moment. Both front and rear cameras can shoot in up to UHD quality, and in an industry first, the rear camera gives you the flexibility to record in HDR10+.6

· AI Camera: Galaxy S10 makes already smart features more accurate with a Neural Processing Unit (NPU) so you can get pro-grade shots worth sharing without having to manually select any advanced camera settings. Scene Optimizer can now recognize and more accurately process additional scenes because of the NPU. And with Shot Suggestion, Galaxy S10 offers automatic composition recommendations so you can frame your photo better than ever.

Intelligent Performance Features to Help You Get the Most Out of Your Phone

Galaxy S10 is built with premium hardware and machine-learning-based software that works hard so you don’t have to. From brand new power sharing capabilities to AI-powered performance enhancement and Intelligent Wi-Fi, Galaxy S10 is Samsung’s most intelligent device yet, from the inside out.

· Wireless PowerShare7: Samsung introduces Wireless PowerShare on Galaxy S10, making it possible to easily charge Qi-certified smartphones and even compatible wearable devices. In addition, Galaxy S10 is capable of charging itself and a second device simultaneously via Wireless PowerShare8, while connected to a regular charger, enabling you to leave your second charger at home while on a trip.

· Intelligent Performance: The new AI software on the Galaxy S10 automatically optimizes battery, CPU, RAM, and even device temperature based on how you use your phone and continues to learn and get better over time. Leveraging AI-capabilities, Galaxy S10 also learns how you use your device to launch your most frequently used apps faster.

In a further win for customers, anyone who purchases a Samsung S10+ through Telstra will be able to upgrade to the 5G-capable Galaxy S10 5G at no extra cost when it is released.

“Telstra has been a global leader in the testing, development and rollout of 5G in Australia and now our customers will be among the first in the world to experience it with Samsung,” Mr Teoh said.

“This delivers the best of both mobile worlds for our customers. Getting their hands on a smartphone by one of the world’s biggest brands, powered by our world leading 4GX technology, and then being able to upgrade to the next generation in mobile technology later in the year is an exciting opportunity that we are looking forward to sharing with them.

“5G-enabled devices are the next step towards customers experiencing the potential of this revolutionary technology with faster downloads, high resolution video streaming with less buffering and better mobile gaming on the go on their new 5G device just the start of its capabilities.

“5G’s ultrafast speeds and lower latency will throw open new digital doors for businesses in particular, so this upgrade offer will also be available to our small and medium business customers. The partnership will also enable a number of strong value offers on Samsung handsets, for small and medium business fleet customers.”

“Under the partnership, the Galaxy S10 5G will be available through Telstra before any other Australian mobile operator when it is released in the first half of 2019.

“With more than 200 Telstra 5G-enabled mobile sites online across the nation and growing, our customers taking up this offer will be at the forefront of this revolutionary technology as well as enjoying the multiple cameras, wireless power sharing, stunning display, sonic fingerprint security and other exciting features on these new Samsung smartphones.”

Customers will also experience the fastest 4G speeds available via our 4GX coverage whenever they are outside of the 5G footprint.

Samsung Vice President, Mobile Division, Garry McGregor said the partnership with Telstra would open up new possibilities to Australian customers.

“Telstra and Samsung have already accomplished a number of Australian firsts together. We achieved the first smartphone 1 Gigabit per second (1Gbps) download on a commercial mobile network on the S9 series last year and we look forward to achieving even more milestones together soon,” Mr McGregor said.

“The arrival of 5G will be a true game-changer for the mobile industry. Samsung is extremely proud to be working closely with Telstra so our Australian customers can be among the first in the world to experience 5G.”

The partnerships are yet another demonstration of Telstra’s 5G leadership, adding to a growing list of national and global firsts including:

Unveiling the world’s first connection of a 5G mid-band commercial device
