Galaxy AI[1] is built to understand what you need before you even ask, whether that’s suggesting a change in your routine or pulling up just the right

Galaxy AI[1] is built to understand what you need before you even ask, whether that’s suggesting a change in your routine or pulling up just the right information at the right time.

This level of personalisation can be incredibly helpful, but the more your phone knows, the more there is to protect. So, what’s keeping all that personal data secure?

Samsung believes there is no privacy without strong security. That’s why every Galaxy device is protected from the chip up by a multi-layered approach, which includes on-device personalisation, user-controlled cloud processing, and ecosystem-wide protection through Samsung Knox Matrix.

At the core of this system is Samsung Knox Vault[2], Samsung’s hardware-based solution for your most sensitive information.

Secured at the Hardware Level

Most devices rely on software alone to guard sensitive data, but Galaxy devices go further.

Knox Vault is a hardware-level security solution that creates a physical barrier between your most private information and everything else. It works like a locked room inside your phone, with its own processor and memory. It pairs a secure processor with dedicated memory, isolating your passwords, PINs, biometrics, and cryptographic keys. These are the kinds of details you don’t want anyone else to access, and Knox Vault is built to make sure they stay private. You don’t need to activate or manage it, it’s always on, working silently in the background, helping keep your data safe while you get on with your day.

This is particularly crucial in the age of AI as user concerns are expanding from traditional cybersecurity threats, like viruses and malware, to worries over leaking personal data, such as conversations with your AI assistant. And as AI becomes part of more everyday tasks, the types of data that need protection are also expanding.

For example, location service metadata from your personal photos, not only details the resolution and file format, but could easily give away where you live and the exact location where the image was taken. In the era of AI, personal information like your address, face clustering ID, person ID, pet type, scene type and more need to encrypted and stored in a safe location. These things aren’t just files — they are deeply connected to your daily life.

Knox Vault helps mitigate these growing concerns by safely storing personal information in a secure, hardware-isolated environment designed to block both physical tampering and remote attacks ensuring your data can’t be accessed without approval.

Personalised AI, Protected at the Core

Knox Vault not only provides protection for today’s threats, it also ensures your privacy as mobile experiences continue to evolve.

As Galaxy AI becomes more useful, it also becomes more personal — learning how you use your device and adapting to your needs. And because this relies on deeply personal data, Knox Vault plays a crucial role in keeping that information private.

Features like Now Brief[3] provide useful summaries and suggestions based on your daily activity, while Modes and Routines[4] creates auto-generated routines by adjusting settings in response to your habits. These tools and the highly tailored AI experiences they enable are guided by a map of personalised data – data that is encrypted, with Knox Vault securing the keys.

Galaxy AI1 also ensures privacy by processing tasks directly on-device where possible[5], keeping data in your hands and off online servers. Audio Eraser,[6] for example, can remove the background noise from videos or voice recordings without the need for any cloud-based processing — helping your personal comversations stay private. Call Transcript[7] and summary operates in the same way, keeping your calls organised while ensuring personal conversations stay private by remaining on-device.

Knox Vault helps ensure your data is protected, confidential and secure. Building on its role in Galaxy AI1 as the trusted foundation for security and privacy, Knox Vault will expand across Samsung’s growing AI ecosystem as AI becomes more deeply integrated into the user experience.

Knox Vault is more than a security feature, it’s Samsung’s promise that no matter how advanced your devices become, or how much AI evolves, keeping privacy secured is our goal.

[1] Fees may apply to certain AI Features at the end of 2025. Certain Galaxy AI features requires Samsung and Google Account. Internet connection may be required to use some features.

[2] Samsung Knox Vault is included on Galaxy S series, Galaxy A series, Galaxy Tab S series and more. Knox Vault availability may vary by model.

[3] Now Brief requires Samsung Account login, app compatibility and user’s consent to access certain information. Service availability may vary.

[4] Modes and Routines requires Samsung Account login. Customised content and recommendations requires Permissions to access data including location, app usage and how you use your device.

[5] Samsung Account login required. Processing data only on your device allows advanced intelligence features to operate locally, rather than online. Enabling this option may limit the functionality of certain AI features that rely on online data processing for advanced capabilities.

[6] Results may vary per video depending on sounds present in the video. Samsung Account login required. Certain types of sound can be detected such as voices, music, wind, nature, crowd and noise. The actual sound detection may vary depending on audio source, and the condition of the video. Accuracy of results is not guaranteed.

[7] Call Transcript feature requires a network connection to receive calls. Samsung Account login required. Summary feature for Call Transcript is capable of automatically transcribing recorded calls when a certain number of characters is met and is under the character limit. Call recording may not be supported in some countries. Currently available on pre-installed Samsung phones and Voice Record app. Service availability may vary by language or region. Certain languages may require language pack download. Accuracy of results is not guaranteed.

Through these new scalable solutions, Knox Suite is now optimised for all types of operational use cases, empowering businesses to comprehensively and intelligently manage enterprise ecosystems.”

With Knox Suite Plans, businesses can optimise and securely manage their compatible Samsung Galaxy device ecosystems, enhancing IT efficiency and empowering employees to maximise productivity throughout the device lifecycle. Knox Suite is trusted by customers worldwide. Now more customisable than ever, Knox Suite is available in three plans:

Whether for work or play, most of us use the internet for hours every day. And when we do, we want the peace of mind that comes with knowing everything we’re doing online – whether we’re browsing for our next shopping spree or working on an important document – stays safe and secure. With Samsung Galaxy, we’re helping to keep you protected so you can use the internet securely wherever you go.

Secure Wi-Fi:

With Samsung’s Secure Wi-Fi, you can work from wherever you’re most comfortable. This feature lets you browse the internet safely, even when using unsecured, public Wi-Fi networks, offering secure protection by encrypting internet traffic. For enhanced privacy protection, you can even route your internet traffic through two separate relays to make it difficult to access your IP address. This is especially effective when you’re working remotely in public spaces.

To use Secure Wi-Fi, go to Settings, Security and Privacy, and select More Security Settings. From there, tap into Secure Wi-Fi, and you’re on your way. You can also add the Secure Wi-Fi icon directly to your home screen for easy access to the app.

Settings > Security and privacy > More security settings > Secure Wi-Fi

With Galaxy, you can work remotely with peace of mind, knowing that your data and information is protected from the potential threats of public networks. Secure Wi-Fi even offers free protection of up to 1024 MB per month, automatically enabled upon connection[1], with additional plans available at any time for those who wish to upgrade.

Samsung Internet:

Samsung Internet brings user-centric security and privacy features to web browsing, enabling you to freely browse your favorite websites while helping to safeguard your privacy. Under Samsung Internet, we’ve created a myriad of features all geared towards helping to keep you and your online experience safe.

First, the browser offers a comprehensive overview of how it helps to protect your web experience, detailed in your Privacy Dashboard, available via the Quick Access page. This offers a detailed record of weekly activities and settings that can be adjusted to suit your privacy preferences, whenever you choose. To find this, go to the browser, tap the three lines icon, and select Privacy.

For extra security, Samsung Internet also enables private environments with Secret Mode. This could come in handy while shopping for a gift you want to keep a surprise from anyone who might have access to your device. With this option, you’ll get the same browsing experience as you would normally experience on Samsung Internet, but with extra privacy and protection. Cookies and browsing history for any websites you visit in Secret Mode will be deleted from your phone as soon as all your Secret Mode tabs are closed. You can even save pages and bookmarks, but anything you save will only be visible in Secret Mode. To use this feature, go to Samsung Internet, and from the main screen, tap on the Tab Manager icon on the bottom where you can manage your open pages. Activate Secret Mode by tapping “Turn on Secret mode”.

Samsung Internet > Tab Manager icon > Turn on Secret mode

Samsung Internet also provides the AI-powered Smart Anti-tracking function, which is turned on by default. This feature helps to block cookies and third-party attempting to track your personal information, as well as helping to prevent cross-site trackers from using techniques for getting around tracker blocking. Smart Anti-tracking also lets you default to a safe HTTPS setting when typing a URL and can detect and apply protection against domains that collude with classified trackers. To use Smart Anti-tracking, go into the Privacy Dashboard within Samsung Internet, and tap Smart Anti-tracking.

Samsung Internet > Privacy dashboard > Smart anti-tracking

Finally, Samsung Internet enables Ad Blocker. We know that when you’re browsing you might encounter ads that you want to get rid of for a seamless experience. That’s why we’ve enabled you to download third-party ad blockers. To block ads via Samsung Internet, launch the Samsung Internet app and tap the three lines icon (menu), before selecting Ad blockers. Here, we’ll recommend a selection of blockers for you to choose from and download.

Samsung Internet > menu > Ad blockers

With your Samsung Galaxy device, there’s no need to worry about when and where you can surf the web. We’ve thought of it all and we’ve put measures in place to help keep you protected during your online experience – no matter where you are.

[1] Secure Wi-Fi offers free protection of up to 1024MB per month for Android OS 12 or later, and 250MB per month for Android OS 11 or earlier versions. Availability details may vary by market or network provider and connectivity is subject to applicable network environments.

These threats can create risks within networks, data and devices, and the number of incidents has risen exponentially. We already know that these threats come in multiple forms such as malware or phishing attacks — but they are often invisible to the victim until it’s too late.

Our powerful Galaxy security solutions provide multiple ways to help protect you from these cybersecurity threats by securing your device and helping control your privacy. Auto Blocker and Message Guard are two of these safeguards.

Auto Blocker

Auto Blocker is all about choice — providing an opt-in package of additional security measures so that you are able to choose whether you want to explore the customisations enabled by Galaxy’s ecosystem. Auto Blocker can help protect your Galaxy device and data by preventing app installations from unauthorised sources. The feature will also check for malware and other cybersecurity threats, immediately blocking any malicious activity that could come as a result.

One example of Auto Blocker in action is the prevention of what many people call sideloading, or downloading apps from unverified sources. There are numerous benefits to intentional sideloading, such as added customisations to your phone. But if you do not typically sideload, this feature will provide extra peace of mind and help stall potential attacks that can come in the form of social engineering fraud like voice phishing — in which threat actors trick you over the phone and talk you into installing malicious software.

The extra level of protection that Auto Blocker provides also stops harmful commands from entering your device via your physical USB port — which could come in handy when charging your phone through an outlet at a public space like an airport.

Turning on Auto Blocker is a quick and simple process that takes less than a minute. Open Settings, go to Security and Privacy, then tap Auto Blocker and select On.

▲ Settings > Security and privacy > Auto Blocker

Message Guard

Cybersecurity threats come in many forms, and each year they become even more sophisticated. One threat that is becoming increasingly common is the zero-click attack, which exploits vulnerabilities in your device software. This can take place any time an image is received and does not require any action whatsoever on the user’s part.

For instance, your phone receives an image and vibrates gently in your pocket or on your bedside table before going still. You haven’t touched your phone or facilitated any input, but someone may already be reading your messages, browsing your gallery or copying your bank details.

Samsung’s Message Guard can help neutralise any potential threats that might be hiding in the image before it has a chance to do any harm by effectively quarantining the file in an isolated space on your device. While the image is put into quarantine, Samsung Message Guard checks the file bit by bit — processing it in a controlled environment to help prevent infection to the rest of your device

Message Guard works with a range of popular messaging apps that you probably already use, from Google and Samsung apps to Messenger, Telegram and WhatsApp. You don’t need to worry about initiating the process either since Message Guard runs silently and effectively in the background when your device is switched on without needing to be activated in any way.

▲ Settings > Security and privacy > Auto Blocker > Messaging app protection

Although there is no doubt that cybersecurity threats will continue to evolve and become increasingly common, Samsung’s priority is to always keep you safe because privacy can only be assured with strong security. However you choose to live your life, Galaxy is there — watching your back and helping to ensure you stay in control.

Security Updates for Longer[1]

While it’s important to have robust security features, it is also crucial to keep them up to date so you are protected against the latest threats. That’s why Samsung is providing up to seven years of security updates and seven years of operating system upgrades, starting with the Galaxy S24 series.[2] This is the longest period of software support currently available for mobile devices, allowing users to keep their phones safely for longer.

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. has announced that Samsung Knox, the security solution integrated into its 2024 TV range, has achieved Common Criteria (CC) certification ahead of product launch.

The CC certification stands as a global benchmark, acknowledged by 31 countries[1] worldwide, for assessing the security integrity of IT products. This year, Samsung Knox demonstrates its global security excellence with validation before the 2024 TVs are available to consumers on the market.

“As our daily lives become even more connected, Samsung understands the fundamental need that customers have for the privacy and security of their personal information,” said Yongjae Kim, Executive Vice President of the Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics.

The CC exists to help ensure consistent and rigorous integrity evaluation standards for IT products and continues to help improve the efficiency of evaluation and certification. With improved evaluation and consistent standards, the CC aims to bolster confidence in the security of certified IT products. The CC certification comprises a Protection Profile (PP) and a Security Target (ST). Samsung Knox has successfully met the Security Target and achieved the standards for the CC.

The CC certification underscores three core security features of Samsung Knox:

Tizen OS Monitoring: Samsung Knox can help detect potential threats in real-time, flagging any unauthorised changes in critical sectors of Tizen OS, the core of Samsung TVs.

Phishing Website Blocking: Samsung Knox verifies web pages accessed by users, preemptively blocking any potential phishing sites to help safeguard user data and privacy.

The smartphone has become the centre of how we work, live and play. For many, it has even become the only thing that we bring out of the home, replacing our laptops, wallets and even house keys.

While we are generally more mindful today of the dangers posed by hackers to our laptops and computers, we also need to recognize that smartphones are prone to cyberattacks as well. Hackers go where the crowds are and right now, that’s mobile devices. That’s why it’s never been more important to stay safe, and why we’re constantly innovating to protect you and your data against emerging threats.

The billions of smartphones around the world are filled with sensitive personal and business data, providing infinite opportunities for hackers to steal and sell private information. In fact, cybersecurity firm IronNet reported that cyberattacks have increased 168% between May 2020 and May 2021, with attacks on smartphones becoming one of the biggest cybersecurity threats in the Asia Pacific region.

Samsung is committed to keeping users safe and secure, with Samsung Knox providing true end-to-end protection throughout the entire lifecycle of your device. In this article, we explore five potential cyberattack scenarios that could happen when the safety of your device is compromised – and explain how Samsung Knox protects you from these threats, in line with our ethos of placing security at the heart of every decision we make.

Cyberattack Scenario 1: Unauthorized backdoor access

Outside of Samsung, developers routinely create software ‘backdoors’ for apps and even mobile OSes so that they can gain easy access for troubleshooting purposes. However, hackers are able to discover these backdoors, which usually bypass any or all cybersecurity measures on the device in question.

To prevent unauthorized backdoor access, do not download unofficial or unauthorized apps. Downloading software other than what the manufacturer originally installed to gain full access to the device’s operating system could also introduce malware or spyware that leads to unauthorized backdoor access.

How Samsung protects you against this threat: At Samsung, we design, create, and validate every computer chip, every piece of wiring, and every hardware component before using them to manufacture our smart devices in highly secure factories around the world. This chip-up approach gives us control over design, manufacturing and assembly, ensuring a secure supply chain that prevents unauthorized backdoor access in our devices – resulting in an end product that our users can trust completely.

Cyberattack Scenario 2: Compromised, weak, or re-used passwords

As users continue to create new accounts for digital services, ranging from telehealth services to new ride-hailing and e-commerce platforms, they provide more avenues for hackers to exploit.

As an August 2021 survey from IBM[1] found, 86% of consumers in Asia Pacific admit that they re-use the same credentials across multiple online accounts. This is a poor data privacy habit – just one attack could leave a user’s entire internet footprint vulnerable to hackers.

How Samsung protects you against this threat: Samsung’s devices[2] are equipped with innovative biometric authentication technology, such as Ultrasonic Fingerprint, so that access to your data can be protected even if your device is lost or stolen. Known as Samsung Pass[3], this biometric authentication tool also lets users easily access log-in credentials without the need to remember countless usernames and passwords[4]! To take data protection to the next level, we have also equipped our devices with Knox Vault, a secure processor that operates independently from the main CPU. Knox Vault securely isolates your biometrics data from the rest of your phone, so no one can get their hands on your data.

Cyberattack Scenario 3: Free Wi-Fi may not be so free after all

Free Wi-Fi hotspots are a boon for everyone who needs access to the Internet on their mobile devices for work or play. However, public Wi-Fi services provide an opportunity for hackers to steal data, as the data that you send across the web – such as credit card information for online purchases – might first pass through the hands of a hacker via a public Wi-Fi network.

How Samsung protects you against this threat: For everyday browsing, Secure Wi-Fi[5] encrypts outgoing internet traffic and disables tracking apps and websites. It allows you to browse the internet safely on public wireless connections without fear of security breaches[6].

Cyberattack Scenario 4: Phishing attacks compromising sensitive data

Phishing is a type of attack in which cyber criminals trick victims into handing over sensitive information or installing malware[7], disguised as links, attachments, or even legitimate apps, on their devices.

Once hackers have access to your sensitive information, they could use it to demand a ransom from you, steal your personal information, carry out other vices, or make purchases with your credit card information, for instance.

How Samsung protects you against this threat: Device Protection in Samsung Device Care continuously scans your device for malware or suspicious activity, and alerts you when you mistakenly install malicious apps through detection via the McAfee protection.

Additionally, the Samsung Secure Folder keeps data secure, and isolates problematic apps within the folder to keep apps away from users’ personal information.

Meanwhile, when you’re paying for purchases with Samsung Pay[8] on your mobile device, your card information is encrypted and completely isolated to protect it at all times.

Cyberattack Scenario 5: Zero-day vulnerability

As hackers and cyber attackers are constantly trying to hack into devices, they are always on the lookout for zero-day vulnerabilities. A zero-day vulnerability is a vulnerability in a system or device that has been discovered but is not yet patched. This can be particularly dangerous as cybercriminals target the flaws in a system before developers or the public are aware it even exists.

How Samsung protects you against this threat: Samsung Knox offers real time protection, always actively protecting your devices against data attacks or malware. This means that unauthorized attempts to access or modify your phone’s core are blocked in real time.

When users reboot their Samsung smartphone, Secure Boot is activated to detect any unauthorized software and block attempts to compromise the device through multi-layered, defense-grade[9] security. If the smartphone is booted in an unapproved state, Samsung Knox will automatically lock up apps containing sensitive data such as Samsung Pay, Samsung Pass, Secure Folder or Samsung Health.

Looking ahead to a more secure future

The smartphone has become a key part of our digital lives, whether from home, at the classroom, or even in the office. With new cyber threat vectors continuously putting us at risk, we need to stay vigilant and play an active role in keeping ourselves and our loved ones safe in this digital world.

Security does not just stop at smartphones for Samsung, as Knox protection also extends to the smart appliances in Samsung’s portfolio for an additional layer of protection. This means that your Samsung smart appliances are protected and secured, whether you are mirroring the video you are watching on your Galaxy device with the SmartView app[10] to the screen on your Family Hub, or using the AI function on your AI EcoBubble washing machine to calibrate optimal wash settings.

As a Samsung user, you can be assured that you have a digital partner committed to world-class security and privacy standards – keeping you safe while you work, study, and play.

Samsung Electronics has today announced that the Australian Signals Directorate (ASD) has released an updated Security Configuration Guidance that includes a range of new Samsung Galaxy devices which can now be used by Australian government departments and Critical Infrastructure agencies.

Devices listed in the new Security Configuration Guidance include the Galaxy S20 FE, S20 FE 5G, Note20 and Note20 5G. The devices have been included in the updated Security Configuration Guidance based on stringent testing and assessments undertaken by the ASD and provide guidance for the use of these Samsung mobile devices in “Sensitive” and “Protected” deployments. The Guidance opens the opportunity for government departments and agencies to utilise some of Samsung’s latest in mobile innovation as part of the operations.

The announcement follows the Australian Signals Directorate’s Cryptographic Evaluation (ACE) level certification of the Galaxy S9 and S9+ models in 2019, which became the first Android devices to be approved for Australian government use at “Protected” level. The ACE program determines the strength and effectiveness of device security architecture.

Garry McGregor, Vice President of IT and Mobile, Samsung Electronics Australia said: “Samsung devices are designed to provide a safe and secure operating platform for use in a wide range of conditions and under stringent environments,”

“This latest Configuration Guidance from the ASD opens the opportunity for a wider range of our Galaxy devices to be utilised within some of the most demanding Government departments and scenarios. We look forward to building our relationship with the Australian Government by delivering the very best in Samsung mobile innovation and security.”

A key aspect of the testing and approval of Samsung devices for use by the government is based on the Galaxy device Knox platform which can be tailored to support organisations with incredibly high security protocols at a hardware and software level.

“Our heritage in device hardware and solution innovation, supported by the Samsung Knox platform, means we set the highest bar for our customers. Samsung’s Knox system was specifically built to provide an additional layer of protection for mobile handsets on top of the Android operating system, at both hardware and software levels.” McGregor added.

ASD testing includes patching applications and operating systems, configuration of Microsoft Office macro settings, user application hardening, restricting administrative privileges, and multi-factor authentication.

Samsung Electronics provides a range of customisable and tailored solutions for business, enterprise, and government customers in Australia and overseas. Globally, Samsung mobility solutions are utilised by government departments in many countries including, the USA, United Kingdom, and European Union.
