Samsung Electronics Australia has today announced the renewal of its partnership with Legacy Esports, one of Australia’s fastest-growing esports teams. The agreement brings the partnership into its third year, with both brands stepping into the new decade with plans to further develop the Australian team and the local esports community.

The announcement builds on Samsung Australia and Legacy Esports’ work during the past two years to help grow and develop the team’s competitive and grass-roots community gaming programs. Together, both brands are now looking to raise the bar to the next level and strengthen Legacy Esports’ presence in the global esports scene.

Samsung will continue to equip Legacy Esports gaming teams with NVMe M.2 SSDs and curved gaming monitors, aiming to help bolstering player immersion and helping bring a new level of competitive gaming in 2020.

“As we enter a new decade, we’ll see esports continue to grow in Australia capturing the attention of more gamers and viewers, and our commitment to Legacy Esports is to continue supporting their growth and help them make the unachievable possible,” said Phil Gaut, Director of Display and Memory Solutions, Samsung Electronics Australia. “Our renewed partnership with Legacy Esports is a step further in that direction, fueled by their unwavering passion for gaming and eagerness to represent Australia.”

Legacy Esports is kicking off 2020 with a bolstered team and an increased focus on competing internationally. As part of the revamp, the team has made two key new hires, including Jensen Goh as Head League of Legends Coach who comes from Singapore and brings international experience in markets such as Europe, as well as Streamer & Content Expert, Kori “Vandie” Hallows, who will lead Legacy’s presence on streaming platforms and connect the Australian athletes with their global counterparts. Other significant changes include the games the team will participate in and its outlook to competitions both locally and internationally.

“We look forward to the future as we move into the third year of our partnership with Samsung and are excited about what we can continue to achieve together,” said Tim Wendell, Head of Esports, Legacy Esports. “The support we have received from Samsung has been fundamental to the development of our athletes and we can’t wait to explore new ways to collaborate.”

Last year, as part of the partnership, and for the first time, Samsung embarked on a global gaming development experience by hosting Legacy Esports on a tour to the epicentre of gaming, Seoul, Korea. Legacy Esports met with the elite esports team, Gen.G, and gained insights about their training programs and had a workshop with the Korean athletes and coaching staff.

Samsung has also collaborated with Legacy over the past two years for PAX, Melbourne, showcasing the team’s talent on the arena stage and at the Samsung booth.

Samsung Electronics Australia has today announced the renewal of its sponsorship of Legacy Esports, one of Australia’s leading Esports organisations. The agreement positions Samsung as the team’s exclusive screen and memory partner for 2019.

Equipping Legacy’s four PC gaming teams with NVMe M.2 SSDs and curved gaming monitors, Samsung will feature on the team’s 2019 game day and retail jerseys and will also be the naming rights partner of Legacy’s Esports High Performance Centre, located at the Adelaide Football Club in South Australia.

“Esports is one of the most captivating and exciting fields of professional competition in Australia and is redefining how people bring together athleticism, precision, and the best forms of performance technology,” said Josh Grace, Chief Marketing Officer, Samsung Electronics Australia. “As a brand, we’re committed to supporting Australians to break barriers and achieve amazing things through our ‘Do What You Can’t’ spirit and look forward to following the success of Legacy Esports in 2019.”

Legacy Esports was the first esports team to be purchased by a professional sporting body when it was acquired by the Adelaide Football Club in May 2017. The club’s Chief Operating Officer, Nigel Smart, said he hopes the two organisations can build on the successful partnership they started in 2018.

“We are ecstatic to have Samsung back on board with Legacy in 2019,” Smart said. “Last year, both organisations took strides to grow the industry in Australia and the partnership and subsequent activations helped raise awareness of esports. We look forward to continuing that in 2019 at all levels, from elite to grassroots.”

2019 is already shaping up to be a big year for Legacy; hosting a bootcamp last week at the Samsung High Performance Centre in preparation for the Oceanic Pro League, which kicked off last week with Legacy taking on rival team Gravitas Gaming.
