Samsung Electronics participated in the World Sleep 2025, joining industry experts and leaders at the biennial international forum dedicated to advancing global sleep health. Samsung showcased its latest advancements in wearable technology, which works seamlessly with the Samsung Health app to empower consumers in their pursuit of healthier and more balanced lives.

Visitors to the Samsung booth were offered an interactive experience to explore how its innovations can support better sleep and health. Attendees were given the opportunity to complete a short sleep survey to discover what type of sleeper they are – each of the eight sleep animal symbols represent a distinct sleep pattern with unique characteristics related to sleep duration, consistency, and awake time. The booth also highlighted the transformative potential of the Samsung Health Software Development Kit (SDK) — a powerful suite of developer tools that enables the secure and consent-based use of health data. SDK is a testament to Samsung’s continuous integration of technology into daily life to foster better health outcomes, particularly in the critical area of sleep.

During the Samsung symposium which focused on wearables and next generation technologies, VP Choi discussed the advancements that Samsung has made in delivering solutions that support health and wellness, detailing how its innovations are shaping the future of health.

Uncovering Health Habits in Southeast Asia and Oceania

Consumer research[1] conducted by Samsung across Southeast Asia and Oceania (SEAO) has shed light on some critical challenges concerning sleep and overall health. The findings indicate that adults in the SEAO region average only about 6 hours and 50 minutes of sleep per night, less than the seven to nine hours generally recommended by the National Sleep Foundation[2]. A deeper dive into the research reveals that 28% of respondents reported “an inability to switch off” as a key concern they have for sleep.

The survey also highlighted that stress levels are notably elevated among working adults aged 36–45. This demographic faces unique pressures, and the burden is particularly pronounced for women within this age group – many who are managing the demanding dual responsibilities of their careers and family life.

These insights underscore the need for greater awareness as well as practical and accessible health and sleep solutions, reinforcing the importance of Samsung’s efforts to develop products and features that provide insights on sleep, stress and fitness for better and more personalised wellness management.

Leading the Charge in Sleep Health

One of Samsung’s latest innovations in personalised health experiences is the Galaxy Watch8 series, newly launched in July 2025. This series introduces a suite of advanced features designed to elevate the effectiveness of sleep tracking and coaching.

The Bedtime Guidance feature offers personalised sleep recommendations that are crafted based on the Two-Process Model of Sleep Regulation – a well-established scientific framework that describes the interaction between homeostatic sleep drive and circadian rhythms. By leveraging this model, Bedtime Guidance[3] empowers users to proactively establish healthier sleep routines, promoting consistent and restorative sleep patterns.

Beyond helping users build better sleep habits, the Watch8 series offers a Sleep Apnea[4] feature which helps users over the age of 22 who have not been diagnosed with sleep apnea to detect signs of moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) over a two-night monitoring period, a common and chronic sleep condition that often goes undiagnosed and untreated. When users are alerted to signs of sleep apnea, they can take steps to seek medical attention and management for the condition, thereby mitigating potential long-term health risks.

In addition to helping users sleep better, the Galaxy Watch8 series incorporates Vascular Load[5] feature. When users wear the Watch8 for at least 4 hours each night for over 3 nights, it assesses your baseline and tracks your heart rate measurements over time. When your readings trend upward, you’ll receive thoughtful suggestions — maybe it’s time for more fresh foods, better sleep habits or managing daily stress.

The Galaxy Watch8 series represents a significant leap forward in empowering users to better manage their well-being through intelligent and personalised health monitoring.

Driving Everyday Wellness

Samsung’s new Watch8 Series also includes broader health and fitness capabilities. These include an Antioxidant Index[6] — introduced for the first time in a smartwatch — to measure carotenoid levels in the skin, and the Running Coach[7] to support fitness enthusiasts. There are also stress management tools, such as Mindfulness[8], guided breathing exercises, and holistic energy scoring[9].

From single person households to multi-generational families under one roof, Home AI learns from habits and adapts to individual routines for a hyper-personalized smart home experience.

Security and Privacy are at the heart of Samsung’s strategy for Home AI. Samsung recognizes that as users introduce more connected devices into their homes and AI becomes more personal, it must also protect users’ privacy. To meet these evolving needs, the company has extended its security capabilities. Now, Samsung Knox Matrix protects home appliances along with mobile devices and TVs with its signature blockchain technology, ensuring that connected devices are working together to protect the user’s home, data and each other from digital threats. With Knox Matrix Dashboard, a transparent privacy control, Samsung offers simplified security management across the entire connected home. In 2025, the program will be expanded from New York and California to select regions in Texas, helping address critical grid needs in the state.

Seamless Entertainment in the AI Era

Samsung’s latest screen experiences, powered by Samsung Vision AI, bring unexpected joy to users’ days through unparalleled personalization and exciting new features. The AI Screen experience infuses intelligence into TVs, bringing Generative Wallpaper, Live Translate and Click to Search to users. At the forefront of this technology is the Neo QLED 8K, which provides the most advanced viewing experiences though AI features like 8K AI Upscaling Pro, Auto HDR Remastering Pro and Color Booster Pro — all of which work behind the scenes to intelligently enhance picture quality. Plus, The Frame’s art experience is expanding, allowing all Samsung QLEDs to come with a digital collection of over 3,000 art pieces, making it so that they can turn any room into a personal gallery.

Samsung’s commitment to its Screens Everywhere strategy is reflected in new display options for its appliances, including its new refrigerators with 9″ AI Home displays and other devices with 7″ screens. Taking AI Everywhere

Beyond the home, Samsung’s AI innovations are set to transform new categories and industries with SmartThings Pro. Created to bring the same AI-powered digital solutions to business partners as SmartThings offers consumers, SmartThings Pro is a B2B solution spanning multi-residential homes to retail spaces, hotels, schools and more. Since its launch last June, SmartThings Pro provides businesses with integrations to better understand energy usage, proactively identify devices with maintenance needs and offer comprehensive control of connected solutions. Samsung is working with partners to create an innovative platform, Future Innovation Technology (FIT), for larger businesses and buildings to set automated climate controls that save energy and reduce electricity costs.

The company is also working with Samsung Heavy Industries on a new SmartThings collaboration that uses the Matter connectivity standard to connect with compatible ships. SmartThings for Ships offers a Pre-Sailing Mode, which allows captains and crews to automate when the engine starts and turn on settings for temperature and lights, saving time and energy. Meanwhile, Care Mode provides a complete view of a ship’s power, AC systems and smoke alarms, while Protection Mode constantly monitors for — and will alert captain and crew to — any abnormal activity.

Additionally, Samsung is expanding its SmartThings and automotive integrations in a new partnership with Hyundai Motor Group to bring SmartThings to Hyundai EVs. With the expanded ecosystem, users can now use SmartThings Find to easily locate their parked car, even in crowded parking lots. With the power of Home AI, SmartThings can make recommendations on when to recharge EVs based on schedules and rates. And if there is a neighborhood power outage, it will automatically activate Battery Backup Mode, which works alongside AI Energy Mode to extend the battery energy to power home essentials.

In the Automotive space, Samsung and its subsidiary Harman continue their promise to transform the in-car experience with new products that bring contextual awareness into the cabin. Leveraging Samsung’s expertise in UX and AI, HARMAN’s new in-vehicle avatar acts as an intelligent digital copilot that works with Harman products like Ready Care and Ready Vision to anticipate needs while drivers focus on the road.

Empowering the Next Generation

Finally, Inhee Chung, Vice President of the Corporate Sustainability Center, underscored how Samsung’s AI for All vision is rooted in the brand’s commitment to harness the power of advanced technology for a better, more inclusive world. Samsung is introducing diverse and enhanced accessibility features through its AI-powered devices and services, starting with the ability to automatically sync accessibility features across home appliances from a smartphone.

From the first half of this year, Bixby will automatically have connected devices display text in high contrast or provide a voice guide for family members with low vision, all by simply recognizing their voice. For those with low vision, AI is improving Audio Subtitles by lowering foreign language audio and reading out the subtitles in the language of the user’s choosing.

Chung also discussed how initiatives like Samsung Solve for Tomorrow, Samsung Innovation Campus and the company’s work with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) are enabling the next generation of innovators. Today, Samsung Solve for Tomorrow challenges more than 2.6 million students across 66 countries to use STEM to address challenges in their community. In particular, during the Paris 2024 Olympic Games last year, Samsung and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) launched a digital community “Together for Tomorrow, Enabling People” and appointed top 10 teams from global Solve for Tomorrow as community ambassadors. Meanwhile, Samsung Innovation Campus has helped prepare nearly 180,000 young people across 33 countries for the workforce through training on emerging technologies like AI, IoT and big data.

In a video message, Achim Steiner, UNDP Administrator, joined VP Chung to share an update on Samsung and UNDP’s partnership to harness the power of technology for good. Since its initiation five years ago, the Samsung Global Goals app has raised over $20 million thanks to nearly 300 million users who are using a Galaxy smartphone, tablet or watch. Plus, Samsung and UNDP’s joint work through the Generation17 initiative continues to inspire extraordinary young leaders around the world who are mobilizing their communities to advance the Global Goals.

Samsung Health Research Stack is Samsung Electronics’ open-source project that supports digital health researches using mobile and wearable devices in Android and Wear OS environments. The platform provides IT developers and medical researchers with a software environment to conveniently and safely plan services using relevant data.

Because clinical research requires apps and services that continuously measure, share and analyse health-related data from users’ daily lives, Samsung Health Research Stack aims to help researchers implement the features they want.

Following the launch of Samsung Health Stack Alpha in 2022 and Samsung Health Stack 1.0 in 2023, Samsung has announced the latest version with Samsung Health Research Stack 2.0 Beta. The open-source project has rebranded to Samsung Health Research Stack, emphasising support for the research ecosystem as part of the newly launched Samsung Health SDK Suite — a comprehensive package of software development tools for healthcare solutions.

New Features Help Researchers With Their Studies

Samsung Health Research Stack promotes more efficient digital health research. Features include an app SDK for easy application creation, a back-end service that manages data collected by the app and a web portal to assist with research design and data analysis. In response to feedback from researchers, the latest version includes more convenient features.

Samsung Electronics Australia today announced it is partnering with Nedd Brockmann as he embarks on ‘Nedd’s Uncomfortable Challenge’. As a Major Partner of Nedd’s Uncomfortable Challenge, Nedd is sporting Samsung’s newly launched premium smartwatch, the Galaxy Watch Ultra with Galaxy AI. Comparing records through the Race is only available when starting at the same location as the previous record’s start point. It will be converted to the running mode automatically, if the starting points are different.
