Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. has announced that Samsung Knox, the security solution integrated into its 2024 TV range, has achieved Common Criteria (CC) certification ahead of product launch.

The CC certification stands as a global benchmark, acknowledged by 31 countries[1] worldwide, for assessing the security integrity of IT products. This year, Samsung Knox demonstrates its global security excellence with validation before the 2024 TVs are available to consumers on the market.

“As our daily lives become even more connected, Samsung understands the fundamental need that customers have for the privacy and security of their personal information,” said Yongjae Kim, Executive Vice President of the Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics.

The CC exists to help ensure consistent and rigorous integrity evaluation standards for IT products and continues to help improve the efficiency of evaluation and certification. With improved evaluation and consistent standards, the CC aims to bolster confidence in the security of certified IT products. The CC certification comprises a Protection Profile (PP) and a Security Target (ST). Samsung Knox has successfully met the Security Target and achieved the standards for the CC.

The CC certification underscores three core security features of Samsung Knox:

Tizen OS Monitoring: Samsung Knox can help detect potential threats in real-time, flagging any unauthorised changes in critical sectors of Tizen OS, the core of Samsung TVs.

Phishing Website Blocking: Samsung Knox verifies web pages accessed by users, preemptively blocking any potential phishing sites to help safeguard user data and privacy.

Enhanced Personal Information Protection: Samsung Knox can help ensure seamless protection of users’ sensitive personal data through a connection with Samsung Knox Vault, a dedicated processor for security functions

Not too long ago, monitors were seen as a must-have mostly for gamers or number-crunching professionals who required extended display real estate. Yet

Not too long ago, monitors were seen as a must-have mostly for gamers or number-crunching professionals who required extended display real estate. Yet today, the humble monitor has gained wider acceptance as an important investment for everyone to make the most out of working, learning and relaxing – whether in the comfort of home or in the office.

To meet the growing needs of consumers, Samsung launched the Smart Monitor series to enable smarter and more flexible lifestyles. The latest Smart Monitor M8 combines exciting features with a stylish, vibrant design. As a next-generation do-it-all monitor designed for work, play and everything in-between, the Smart Monitor M8 comes with Smart Hub functionality, making it perfect for working and studying at home without the need to connect to an external device like a PC or TV, while allowing users to enjoy popular streaming services[1].

Curious to find out more about the flagship addition to the Smart Monitor line-up? Hear from Leslie Goh, Head of Regional Display Solutions, Samsung Electronics Southeast Asia & Oceania, on how the Smart Monitor M8 reframes work and play at home, and discover his top tips to selecting the right monitor for work, play, and everything in between.

How is the Smart Monitor series different from other monitors that are out there today?

Leslie: The monitor used to be known as a tool for PC power users. These ‘traditional’ monitors tend to be rather basic in features, and come in larger screen sizes and high definition resolutions.

However, as we adapt to today’s new lifestyle norms, we understand that consumers are expecting more out of their devices. Therefore, we launched the Smart Monitor series last year to help them meet the increasing demands of working, learning, playing and consuming entertainment at home.

Nowadays, consumers are looking for a new generation of monitors to enhance productivity, collaboration, and play – all in one smart and attractive package. With powerful mobile and PC connectivity, remote home office and learning features, as well as the integrated Smart Hub system, the Smart Monitor series is ideal for even the most discerning consumers.

How popular is Samsung’s Smart Monitor series?

Leslie: The Smart Monitor series is hugely popular with our customers. In fact, we just recently exceeded the milestone of over one million Smart Monitor displays sold globally since the series first launched in late 2020! In Asia, we have received plenty of positive feedback from consumers, especially on the Smart Monitor’s versatility, which allows them to switch between work or play in an instant.

As hybrid work and learning is here to stay for the long term, we are confident that there will continue to be a strong demand for Smart Monitor series in homes, as consumers look to improve their productivity and entertainment experiences with added screen real estate.

Can you share some tips on selecting the right Smart Monitor models?

Leslie: Consumers will be spoilt for choice with Samsung’s Smart Monitor series. We now offer 8 premium Smart Monitor models in Southeast Asia, Australia and New Zealand, including the M8, M7 and M5, that blend seamlessly into varying lifestyle requirements and space, from the home office to the dining room or even the kitchen counter.

The first thing to consider is the display size. I would say that the usual go-to size for most consumers is around 24 inches. But as consumers become more mature and sophisticated in their needs to create a comfortable work and schooling environment at home, there is a greater appetite for larger display sizes, such as 27”, 32” and even 43” Smart Monitor models.

Next, take a closer look at the picture quality you require. Do you need a screen to support 4K content? With more games, TV shows, movies and sports or concerts available in 4K, you may want to look for a screen that comes with 4K display capabilities, such as the Smart Monitor M8 and M7.

Another thing to look out for is the built-in features of the monitor. The Smart Monitor line-up comes equipped with great built-in features, such as Smart Hub, our intelligent menu system, and Samsung DeX, which lets you extend your mobile device to your Smart Monitor. It also comes with built-in Microsoft 365[2] cloud services, which means that anyone can access documents and other Microsoft Office programs conveniently without having to connect a PC or laptop.

Smart Monitor screens also help users enjoy comfortable viewing experiences during the day and at night. With Adaptive Picture technology, the Smart Monitor display adjusts brightness automatically according to surrounding light, and reduces blue light levels with Eye Saver Mode. Flicker-free technology also ensures that our Smart Monitor screens remain easy on the eyes – even after prolonged usage.

What’s new with the Smart Monitor M8?

Leslie: The new M8 offers a major improvement in design with options that fit beautifully in stylish homes. Available in Samsung’s iconic slim design, the 32-inch M8 is ultra-thin at just 11.4mm, which is about 75% slimmer than other Smart Monitor models.

What’s more, the new Smart Monitor M8 comes with a height adjustable stand that will provide a comfortable viewing experience for everyone, including a child indulging in a cartoon series on Netflix!

The M8 also has a magnetic and removable SlimFit Cam designed to attach to the Smart Monitor seamlessly without unsightly wires. With Face Tracking and Auto Zoom functions, the SlimFit Cam ensures that the user is always the center of attention during meetings or even while livestreaming.

To share an interesting titbit, the M8 was announced as a CES 2022 Innovation Awards Honoree from the CTA (Consumer Technology Association) in recognition of its wide array of display technologies!

So, what monitor are you currently using at home? What is your favourite feature?

Leslie: I would say I am quite a typical PC power user, and I consider the monitor an essential part of my home productivity and entertainment setup.

I am using the M8, which is great for opening multiple documents. It has saved me a lot of time wasted toggling between different documents, especially when doing research work.

The SlimFit Cam is a great addition as I can now use a larger monitor for conference calls and not be restricted to my laptop’s built-in camera.

During lunch breaks while working from home, I can easily switch to watching the latest episode of my favorite TV show on my M8. It is really like a Smart TV, but on my desk. To squeeze in some game time, I have also plugged in my console to enjoy some of my favorite 4K game titles from my home office.

As my Samsung fridge and other smart home appliances are also on the SmartThings ecosystem, it is really convenient for me to connect and check out my appliances at a glance[3].

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., the world’s leading TV manufacturer for 16 consecutive years,* announced that many of its 2022 Neo QLEDs earned the ‘Reducing CO2’ certification from the Carbon Trust in recognition of its efforts to reduce the products’ carbon footprint.

The Carbon Trust is a global climate consultancy driven by the mission to accelerate the move to a decarbonised future. The ‘Reducing CO2’ certification signifies that a product’s carbon footprint is reducing year-on-year. It evaluates the amount of GHG(Greenhouse Gas) generated throughout the entire product lifecycle using internationally recognized standards[1].

This year, 11 models across Samsung’s 2022 TV lineup (9 of which will be available in Australia), including three Neo QLED 8K models, three Neo QLED 4K models, two QLED models, two Lifestyle TV models, and one Crystal UHD TV model, obtained the certification by reducing the weight of the product and the power consumption during the use phase.

Samsung has long been committed to not only driving product innovation but also shaping and implementing environmental sustainability technologies. During Samsung’s keynote event at CES 2022, Jong-Hee (JH) Han, Vice Chairman, CEO and Head of Samsung Electronic’s Device eXperience (DX) Division, unveiled the company’s vision of “Together for Tomorrow”, highlighting Samsung’s commitment to creating a sustainable future and driving collaboration as part of the global community to preserve our planet.

As part of the initiative, Samsung’s Visual Display Business is set to use around 30 times more recycled plastics to produce its display products than it did in 2021. Samsung also revealed its plan to expand the use of recycled materials in all of their mobile and home appliance products by 2025.

In addition, Samsung has been adopting various sustainable practices to minimize the environmental impacts throughout its products’ lifecycles. The company’s ‘Eco-Packaging’ program – which allows consumers to upcycle the packaging for TV products into versatile pieces of furniture – has been upgraded this year with product packaging using 90% less ink while also removing the staples during production.[2]

Samsung has also expanded the SolarCell Remote, which eliminates battery waste with built-in solar panels, to all TV models in 2022. Additionally, Samsung has developed and applied a new material, partially made with repurposed ocean-bound plastics, to a 2022 high resolution monitor S8to reduce marine waste and minimize the environmental footprint.

“As the market leader for 16 consecutive years, Samsung is not only focused on the technological advancements, but innovations around human-centric technology and the environment,” said Seokwoo Yong, Executive Vice President and Head of R&D Team, Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. “Samsung will continue to implement various sustainability initiatives and eco-conscious activities in line with its ‘Going Green’ vision.”

MICRO LED: The Pinnacle of Display Technology

As Samsung’s state-of-the-art display, MICRO LED offers outstanding picture quality thanks to 25 million micrometer-sized LEDs that individually produce light and color, creating an incredibly immersive experience through impressive depth, vibrant colors and a remarkable level of clarity and contrast. At CES 2022, Samsung will unveil the MICRO LED in three different sizes – 110”, 101”, and 89.”

In addition to the hardware innovations, the 2022 MICRO LED supports 20-bit greyscale depth. This means MICRO LED models can express every detail in a scene, offering precise control with over 1 million steps of brightness and color levels, delivering a true HDR experience. It also expresses 100% of DCI and Adobe RGB color gamut, resulting in stunning, lifelike colors. Together with immersive design made possible by its 99.99% screen-to-body ratio, MICRO LED delivers revolutionary performance.

Finally, MICRO LED comes packed with exceptional usability and customisation features.

Art Mode allows consumers to turn any room into an art gallery as they can select and display their favorite artwork or digital photography. The 2022 MICRO LED also comes with two exclusive media pieces from noted artist and designer Refik Anadol.

Multi View lets users view content from four different sources simultaneously – from any or all of the four HDMI ports – in mesmerising 4K resolution at up to 120fps.

Dolby Atmos delivers a premier immersive audio experience with top, side and bottom channel speakers for breathtaking, multi-dimensional sound.

Evolution of Neo QLED with Neo Quantum Processor and Dynamic Sound Experience

Thanks to the Neo Quantum Processor and the advancements in picture technology and sound it delivers, 2022 Neo QLED will provide some of the most pristine images and immersive soundscapes in a Samsung TV. In fact, this year’s Neo Quantum Processor introduces [1]

The new Shape Adaptive Light technology leverages the Neo Quantum Processor to analyse lines, shapes and surfaces to control the shape of light from the Quantum Mini LEDs, enhancing the brightness and accuracy of all shapes on the screen. The result is outstanding image quality that puts full HDR content on display. Samsung’s 2022 Neo QLED also features Real Depth Enhancer, a multi-intelligence picture quality algorithm. This technological advancement creates a greater sense of realism by determining and processing an object on the screen against its background to create a sense of depth.

Additionally, Samsung’s 2022 Neo QLED features the screen’s brightness and tone based on a built-in light sensor and sunset/sunrise information.[2] As the ambient light changes, the screen will gradually reduce the amount of light and offer warmer tones, adjusting the blue light levels accordingly. This allows for a more comfortable viewing experience at night by reducing blue light.

Neo QLED’s sound features are getting a major upgrade as well. Building on OTS (Object Tracking Sound), which directs the sound to move across the room along with the object on-screen, the 2022 products will feature OTS Pro, which incorporates powerful up-firing speakers to create overhead surround sound. 2022 Neo QLED also delivers a truly remarkable Dolby Atmos experience thanks to the addition of Samsung’s new top channel speakers. With multi-channel speakers placed throughout the TV, Neo QLED delivers a dynamic sound experience that tracks the actions from all corners.

LOCAL COMMENT

Samsung Electronics has today announced the latest picture and sound advancements to its leading Neo QLED TVs and lifestyle portfolio.

Driven by AI technology and hardware innovations, this year Samsung has evolved its Neo QLED technology, the 2022 range will include Shape Adaptive Light and AI Object Depth Enhancer technology to deliver realistic sound to complete the overall viewing experience.[7]

Samsung’s 2022 Lifestyle screens continue to seamlessly blend design and technology for a unique and personalised experience. A new Matte Display with anti-glare, anti-reflection and anti-fingerprint properties has been applied to The Frame, The Sero and The Serif 2022 models.

Quotes attributed to Jeremy Senior, Vice President of Consumer Electronics at Samsung Electronics Australia.

Neo QLED

“Screens are continually evolving and offering consumers new ways to use them in their everyday lives. Our TVs are getting smarter, and their uses are becoming more versatile as we shift into the next normal.

“Bigger screens, optimal sound quality and state-of-the-art picture quality remain of the highest priority for consumers as they look for premium at-home experiences. Last year we introduced Neo QLED a TV technology that offered Australians high quality brightness and colour to expand their viewing experience. This year our 2022 Neo QLED TVs gets even better; Quantum Matrix technology, which controls the brightness level of each LED, now uses AI to control the shape of the light in real time enhancing the accuracy of all shapes on the screen.

“Samsung’s 2022 Neo QLEDs will also offer true Dolby Atmos directly out of the box. We are proud to incorporate industry-leading Dolby Atmos technology for an enhanced three-dimensional sound experience. With multi-channel speakers now placed throughout the TV, Neo QLED delivers a dynamic sound experience that tracks the actions from all corners.”

Lifestyle TVs

“Continuing our existing offering in the lifestyle space, The Frame is also set to deliver a range of new, impressive features in 2022. Having sold over one million units globally since its release, The Frame can transform any space into an art gallery.

“As with any living space, light can often be the biggest challenge as reflections can impact the way people view and enjoy art and images. With this in mind, Samsung has incorporated cutting-edge anti-glare and anti-reflection technology into the newest model of The Frame. This will make the screen appear incredibly crisp. This same technology will be applied to The Serif and The Sero, providing a premium design and comfortable viewing experience, fitting the user’s lifestyles.”

Samsung has been announced as a joint winner of Canstar Blue’s 2021 Customer Satisfaction Award for televisions.

Canstar Blue asked over 1,200 consumers who purchased a television in the last two years to rate them on overall satisfaction, as well as picture quality, value for money, sound quality, ease of use, design and smart compatibility.

Samsung was awarded a five-star rating for four out of seven consumer rating metrics including overall satisfaction, picture quality, design/appearance, and smart compatibility, along with a four-star rating for value for money, sound quality, and ease of use.

Jeremy Senior, Vice President of Consumer Electronics at Samsung Australia comments:

“Today, we expect more from our TVs. From bringing families together to escapism, work and play, the TV experience continues to evolve with the times. Australians are looking for bigger screens, more immersive sound and an easy to use Smart TV platform. To meet and even exceed customer expectations in these areas ultimately drives our product innovation year-on-year.

We want all of our customers to be fully satisfied with the Samsung TV experience, which is why we continue to offer an array of sizes and models, including our unrivalled lifestyle range to ensure there is choice for every household.

We are honoured to be awarded by Canstar Blue for the 2021 Customers Satisfaction Award for TV in Australia. Samsung has been the global leader in TV for the past 15 years[1] and to hear such positive experiences from our customers is a testament to our commitment to them.”

Canstar Blue’s research found that the most prominent reason for Australians looking to purchase a new TV was the need to upgrade to a Smart TV. The award and results of Canstar Blue’s survey, reaffirms Samsung’s commitment to meeting the changing needs of consumers.

This year, Samsung launched its latest innovation in TV technology, Neo QLED 8K and has since gone on to receive positive recognition from both media and consumers in the local Australian market.

With consumers increasingly looking for televisions that not only output excellent picture quality, but also feature elegant design, Samsung’s portfolio is well placed to meet a wide range of consumer needs.
