Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. today announced the availability of its latest Smart Monitor lineup in Australia, featuring the flagship Smart Monitor M9 (M90SF model) alongside updated Smart Monitor M8 (M80F) and Smart Monitor M7 (M70F) models. With the introduction of QD-OLED technology to the Smart Monitor M9 and Samsung Vision AI features across the lineup; the new Smart Monitor offerings provide personalised and connected screen experiences for work and entertainment.

Smart Monitor M9 (M90F): OLED Picture, Intelligent Performance

The Smart Monitor M9 introduces QD-OLED technology to the Smart Monitor lineup for the first time. Its 32-inch 4K QD-OLED panel delivers deep contrast and vibrant colour, offering an immersive visual experience across productivity, streaming and gaming. Samsung OLED Safeguard+ helps maintain screen integrity over time with a proprietary cooling system designed to reduce the risk of burn-in. The M9 also features a Glare-Free display to minimise reflections and ensure consistent visibility and comfort — even in bright lighting conditions.[1]

The M9 is powered by AI Picture Optimiser, 4K AI Upscaling Pro[2] and Active Voice Amplifier (AVA) Pro, which work together to enhance picture and sound quality in real time based on content and surroundings. Whether users are watching, creating or multitasking, the display adapts automatically to deliver optimised performance.

The M9 also serves as a smart entertainment hub with access to popular streaming apps, Samsung TV Plus and Samsung Gaming Hub — which enables cloud-based gaming without a connected console or PC[3]. With a 165Hz refresh rate and a 0.03ms response time (GtG), the M9 supports smooth, fast-moving visuals ideal for high-performance use.[4]

The M9 features a slim metal design that blends premium aesthetics with functional form, creating a modern look that complements any workspace. The Smart Monitor M9 has also earned a Pantone Validated certification from Pantone. Smart Monitor M8 (M80F) and M7 (M70F): Versatile Displays with AI Functionality and Enhanced Connectivity

The new Smart Monitor M8 and Smart Monitor M7 extend Samsung’s smart monitor experience to a broader audience, offering 32-inch 4K UHD screens with vibrant picture quality and built-in AI features. Equipped with Samsung’s advanced VA panel technology, both models deliver sharp detail and rich contrast, making them ideal for everyday productivity, streaming and much more. Tizen OS Home also personalises recommendations and makes it easier to access frequently used services and inputs.

Designed for flexibility, all three models – M9, M8, and M7 – integrate with SmartThings[6], support Multi Control[7] between Samsung devices and offer Multi View for side-by-side working or entertainment. With Microsoft 365[8] access, users can create and edit documents directly from the monitor without a PC, making the lineup a practical solution for modern work setups.

The Smart Monitor M9 (Silver), M8 (Black) and M7 (Black and White) are available in 32-inch screen sizes and will begin rolling out nationwide from today via Samsung’s Online Store and leading retailers. Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd has released findings from its Southeast Asia and Oceania (SEAO) Gaming Insight Study, which found that 7 in 10 online consumers in the region are gamers. Conducted in partnership with ONE Esports, over 6,800 consumers aged 18 to 49 across seven markets (Australia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam) were surveyed in the last quarter of 2022[1], showing a widespread love for gaming whether at home or on-the-go.

Across the region, playing to de-stress and relax was cited as the top reason for gaming (74%), with an average of 7 hours a week spent on gaming. Most gamers (92%) preferred to engage in gameplay from the comfort of their home, and over half of gamers (58%) were found to spend an average of USD $30 monthly on gaming-related purchases such as exclusive online content, esports tournament tickets, streamer subscription, skins, and merchandise collectibles.

The study identified four distinct gamer personalities among gaming fans in this region – Hardcore Gamers, Gaming Enthusiasts, Casual Gamers & Spectators, as well as Casual Gamers, based on their total time spent playing games and watching gaming or esports content. The study found that more than half of gamers surveyed (56%) indulge in this pastime at least a few times a week, consisting of Hardcore Gamers and Gaming Enthusiasts (See chart below).

Gaming Enthusiasts and Hardcore Gamers are highly vested in their hobby, where their top gaming-related activities include watching gaming videos, discussing gaming with others, reading gaming updates and news, spending money on gaming-related items and lastly, following gaming personalities on social media (see chart below).

The monitor’s built-in Colour Calibration Engine ensures precise screen colour and brightness, allowing users to adjust white balance, Gamma and RGB colour balance for perfect accuracy with their smartphones through the Samsung Smart Calibration application. Users can connect cameras and other devices to the monitor through USB-C and Thunderbolt 4 connections to easily transfer gigantic files of high-resolution video or other large data sets from storage devices to their PC.

Smart Monitor M8: Bringing Productivity, Entertainment and Personal Life Together

The Smart Monitor M8 (Model Number: M80C) features a stylish and slim design and now comes in a new 27” size in addition to the existing 32” size, both with 4K resolution.

The height-adjustable stand with tilt support gives users the best angle. The screen can now pivot 90 degrees, which helps users view long documents with less scrolling. It also meets VESA mount compatibility standards to help save space and retain a clutter-free environment.

The Smart Monitor M8 can connect, control, and manage hundreds of compatible connected devices through the built-in SmartThings Hub, including lights, cameras, doorbells, locks, thermostats, and more[2]. The new My Contents feature provides users with helpful information at a glance. How is the Smart Monitor series different from other monitors that are out there today?

Leslie: The monitor used to be known as a tool for PC power users. These ‘traditional’ monitors tend to be rather basic in features, and come in larger screen sizes and high definition resolutions.

However, as we adapt to today’s new lifestyle norms, we understand that consumers are expecting more out of their devices. Therefore, we launched the Smart Monitor series last year to help them meet the increasing demands of working, learning, playing and consuming entertainment at home.

Nowadays, consumers are looking for a new generation of monitors to enhance productivity, collaboration, and play – all in one smart and attractive package. How popular is Samsung’s Smart Monitor series?

Leslie: The Smart Monitor series is hugely popular with our customers. In fact, we just recently exceeded the milestone of over one million Smart Monitor displays sold globally since the series first launched in late 2020! In Asia, we have received plenty of positive feedback from consumers, especially on the Smart Monitor’s versatility, which allows them to switch between work or play in an instant.

As hybrid work and learning is here to stay for the long term, we are confident that there will continue to be a strong demand for Smart Monitor series in homes, as consumers look to improve their productivity and entertainment experiences with added screen real estate.

Can you share some tips on selecting the right Smart Monitor models?

Leslie: Consumers will be spoilt for choice with Samsung’s Smart Monitor series. We now offer 8 premium Smart Monitor models in Southeast Asia, Australia and New Zealand, including the M8, M7 and M5, that blend seamlessly into varying lifestyle requirements and space, from the home office to the dining room or even the kitchen counter.

The first thing to consider is the display size. I would say that the usual go-to size for most consumers is around 24 inches. But as consumers become more mature and sophisticated in their needs to create a comfortable work and schooling environment at home, there is a greater appetite for larger display sizes, such as 27”, 32” and even 43” Smart Monitor models.

Next, take a closer look at the picture quality you require. Do you need a screen to support 4K content? With more games, TV shows, movies and sports or concerts available in 4K, you may want to look for a screen that comes with 4K display capabilities, such as the Smart Monitor M8 and M7.

Another thing to look out for is the built-in features of the monitor. The Smart Monitor line-up comes equipped with great built-in features, such as Smart Hub, our intelligent menu system, and Samsung DeX, which lets you extend your mobile device to your Smart Monitor. So, what monitor are you currently using at home? What is your favourite feature?

Leslie: I would say I am quite a typical PC power user, and I consider the monitor an essential part of my home productivity and entertainment setup.

I am using the M8, which is great for opening multiple documents. It has saved me a lot of time wasted toggling between different documents, especially when doing research work.

The SlimFit Cam is a great addition as I can now use a larger monitor for conference calls and not be restricted to my laptop’s built-in camera.

During lunch breaks while working from home, I can easily switch to watching the latest episode of my favorite TV show on my M8. It is really like a Smart TV, but on my desk. To squeeze in some game time, I have also plugged in my console to enjoy some of my favorite 4K game titles from my home office.

As my Samsung fridge and other smart home appliances are also on the SmartThings ecosystem, it is really convenient for me to connect and check out my appliances at a glance[3].

Samsung Electronics Australia today announced its latest Smart Monitor series, the M8, featuring an upgraded, stylish design will be coming to Australia. The versatile new M8 delivers Samsung’s iconic slim design in a new Warm White colour – available in 32-inches with UHD resolution and a SlimFit Camera.

First launched in November 2020, Samsung’s Smart Monitor series is a family of world’s first do-it-all screens designed for modern day users who demand a product that offers both functionality and entertainment at home. Not only being a traditional monitor, but the M8 also allows users to enjoy a variety of OTT entertaining streaming services[1], including Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+ and Apple TV via Wi-Fi without having to connect to a PC or TV. Switch from Monitor to a Smart TV, complete with remote control and build-in speakers.

When it comes to style, the Smart Monitor M8 offers both space and work efficiency in an ultra-stylish design. The thinness of the new model is 11.4mm, about three-quarters slimmer than the previous models.

When it comes to productivity, the Smart Monitor M8 has it all. The M8 provides a perfect home office environment without using a PC by connecting to various IT devices through the upgraded Smart Hub. The Workspace User Interface offers all services needed to work on one screen, helping users wirelessly connect to a Windows or Mac PC and efficiently use an extensive range of useful features, including Samsung DeX, Apple AirPlay and Microsoft 365[2] cloud service, as well as mirroring content from smartphone to the M8.

On top of that the Smart Monitor M8 has a magnetic and detachable SlimFit camera that can attach to the monitor while keeping the desk space neat without any unsightly wires. The SlimFit Camera also features face tracking and auto zoom functions, swiftly identifying a person’s face when on screen and automatically focusing on the subject. In other words, it can follow and capture an individual speaker, a perfect option for active presentation or livestreaming. In addition, the monitor supports video chat apps such as Google Duo, allowing users to work remotely or engage in video conferencing at home or in the workplace using the SlimFit Cam.

The Smart Monitor M8 has an IoT hub called SmartThings Hub, where users can connect all their IoT devices wirelessly. The SmartThings app allows users to track IoT devices throughout the house easily with the app’s intuitive control panel highlighting all information provided by other devices connected to the M8, including light switches and plug power[3].

Equipped with a high-sensitivity Far Field Voice microphone, the assistant controls devices such as Bixby and Amazon Alexa[4] using voice commands. Additionally, the microphone uses an Always On Voice function, displaying conversation information on screen when Bixby is activated, even if the monitor screen is turned off.

4K UHD resolution is designed to help every piece of content to be brought to life beautifully. HDR10+ support with a billion colours and sRGB 99% creates bright and dark scenes for more nuanced settings without losing any vivid detail, so you can enjoy content as it was intended. To accompany the monitor’s wide array of features, the display offers adaptive picture technology, enhancing viewer comfort by automatically adjusting display brightness and colour temperature. The M8 also includes a height adjustable stand (HAS) and tilt functionality, allowing users to find the perfect position for every project, movie night or study session.

The Smart Monitor M8 earned CES Innovation Awards Honoree from the CTA(Consumer Technology Association) in recognition of a wide array of its display technologies.
