Samsung Electronics Australia today announced it is partnering with Nedd Brockmann as he embarks on ‘Nedd’s Uncomfortable Challenge’. As a Major Partner of Nedd’s Uncomfortable Challenge, Nedd is sporting Samsung’s newly launched premium smartwatch, the Galaxy Watch Ultra with Galaxy AI. Like Nedd, who is known for his endurance and durability, the Galaxy Watch Ultra is an ultra-performer and will also act as the official Timekeeper of the challenge. Samsung Health is the official health tracking software.

In the first phase of Nedd’s Uncomfortable Challenge, Nedd will attempt to break the world record for the fastest 1,000-mile run by covering 160 kilometres per day for 10 days (October 3 – 13) at Sydney Olympic Park Athletic Centre and help to raise $10M for people experiencing homelessness.

For the first five days of his run, Nedd will be alone in the stadium with no fans to cheer him on. To keep him motivated, Samsung is inviting Australians to record a Nedd-style ‘Ultra Shout-Out’ to show their support for him. By monitoring the data collected from Nedd’s Galaxy Watch Ultra, these messages will be broadcast on the big screen in the stadium during his run to give him a boost at key milestones and when he needs it the most.

“I’ve been using Samsung devices for a while to track my workouts and support my recovery so I’m incredibly grateful to be able to partner with Samsung throughout this challenge,” said Nedd Brockmann.

“As I train to beat the world record, my Galaxy Watch Ultra and Samsung Health have been great in giving me access to some really valuable data which is easy to access. Heading into the first week, I know being able to hear the support of Australians blasted throughout the stadium is going to make me feel like they are trackside and right behind me, cheering me on every step of the way.”

To record an Ultra Shout Out, Australians can visit Ultrashoutouts.com.au from 20 September to send a message of support. For fans who can make it to Sydney Olympic Park, the Samsung Shout-Out Squad will be recording messages at the stadium and cheering Nedd on from the sideline.

“Galaxy Watch Ultra with Galaxy AI has been designed for next level performance, something Nedd’s fearlessness and athleticism truly embodies. Combined with the Samsung Health app, the Galaxy Watch Ultra provides advanced health, wellness, and fitness monitoring, the perfect partner for someone like Nedd, or anyone looking for personalised insights and tailored wellness experiences”, said Celine Wheeler, Head of Brand & Integrated Marketing – Mobile Experience at Samsung Electronics Australia.

“Nedd captured Australia’s attention back in 2022 when he ran across Australia, and as he prepares for his next challenge, we look forward to helping Australians rally behind him with Ultra Shout-Outs,” concludes Wheeler.

The Galaxy Watch Ultra combines powerful on-device AI to enable more accurate tracking and collection of health data. This biodata is consolidated on the Samsung Health app to provide personalised guidance and insights, including Energy Score, Sleep Coaching and Wellness Tips.

The Ultra Shout Out campaign will be supported with a short film, directed by Ollie Ritchie, that portrays Nedd preparing for his challenge. Showing his readiness for the run ahead, he clicks his Galaxy Buds3 Pro and Watch Ultra to get started and lets out a guttural scream. His scream is joined and amplified by Australians including Mary Fowler and Christian Petracca sending messages of support, as he sets off on his challenge, alone in the stadium.

Nedd is also encouraging people to get involved and join Nedd’s Uncomfortable Challenge by setting their own challenge that takes them out of their comfort zone for 10 days straight starting 20-29 October.

The campaign will be live across YouTube, Meta, Tiktok, and in Samsung Retail Locations.

From 20 September, Aussies can access the landing page at Ultrashoutouts.com.au and learn more about Nedd’s Uncomfortable Challenge at www.neddsuncomfortablechallenge.com/home.

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. today announced new features and updates for Samsung Food[1] — a personalised, AI-powered food and recipe platform — to celebrate

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. today announced new features and updates for Samsung Food[1] — a personalised, AI-powered food and recipe platform — to celebrate its first anniversary, all of which will be showcased at IFA 2024. Since its debut at IFA last year, Samsung Food has garnered over six million users,[2] becoming an essential tool for meal planning and cooking in the modern home. The platform’s most popular features include Recipe functions, Shopping List, and Meal Planner.

“In combining our staple kitchen appliance innovations with new AI technologies, we’re able to simplify everyday experiences such as the process of making dinner. Currently, Australians spend up to 20 hours a week on household tasks including building shopping lists and researching recipes. Unsurprisingly, 9 in 10 Australians have told us they’re interested in kitchen technologies that assist with meal planning and prepping. Samsung Food helps Australians rediscover their passion for cooking by making meal planning and preparation easier, so they can spend less time on life admin and more time on the things they love.” said Jeremy Senior, Vice President, Consumer Electronics at Samsung Australia.

Photo image of Samsung Food

Personalise your plate with customised food experiences

Samsung Food is a holistic food platform available on various Samsung devices, including and beyond home appliances. Samsung Food+, the premium subscription service[3] of Samsung Food, elevates the experience by integrating a health profile and goals, providing personalised meal plans with recipe recommendations. And now, AI is being added to bring streamlined benefits to consumers around the globe.

Samsung is making food preparation more convenient by rolling out the Vision AI technology for Samsung Food+, which allows users to add items to their Food List by simply snapping a photo of their food items with a smartphone. This functionality means that users owning Bespoke refrigerators with a Family Hub screen[4] without AI Vision Inside — the internal camera that recognises food items that goes in and out of the fridge — can now also easily add items with photos to their Food List.

Other benefits of the Samsung Food+ subscription service include automatically adding purchased ingredients to the Food List when users check out at the store or online, and searching for recipes based on the contents of the Food List. Users can also get alerts to help them use the items before the manually set use-by-date, helping reduce food waste.

Samsung Food+ further provides the meal plans based on users’ Food List to support sustainable food practice goals by personalising each plan based on the ingredients in users’ Food Lists, prioritising those nearing use-by-date. And with the new “Search with Your Food List” feature, recipes using the ingredients listed in their Food Lists will show on top of the search results to help users with ideas on what can be made with what they have. Recipe recommendations are also provided based on the Food List. And whatever has been used from the Food List is recommended to add on the Shopping List. This intelligent approach helps inventory maintenance and reduces food waste while ensuring fresh, tasty meals.

Reference Image of Samsung Food’s Search with Items from User’s Food List

It offers “Tailored for You” plans[5], delivering weekly recipe and snack recommendations based on users’ nutritional needs[6], chosen diets and previous recipe preferences. The system tracks macronutrient intake within daily meal plans and allows customisable calorie and macronutrient targets for individual health objectives. While Samsung Food users receive three days of recommendations per week, paid and subscribed Samsung Food+ users benefit from a full week of recommendations, with the intelligent platform also factoring in the manually set use-by-dates of ingredients.

Earlier this year, Samsung established the era of mobile AI on Samsung devices with the launch of the Galaxy S24 series, and committed to introducing Galaxy AI[1] on a wider range of devices. True to this promise, Samsung is now bringing Galaxy AI to Galaxy Watch, enhancing its popular health features. By combining powerful on-device AI with the extensive Samsung Health app, Samsung is on the path to building some of the most personalised health experiences yet.

Advanced intelligence for more holistic insights and motivation

Samsung has been on a mission to deliver an advanced health and wellness experience, starting by utilising meaningful and actionable insights to help you gain a better understanding of your wellness. Now, by combining Galaxy AI with Samsung Health, new health features will provide you with comprehensive insights, along with motivational encouragement to help you improve your daily wellness. With Energy Score[2], you can receive a better understanding of your daily patterns through a combined analysis of your sleep time average, sleep time consistency, bed/wake time consistency, sleep timing, previous day activity, sleeping heart rate and heart rate variability[3] to help you take on your day. Plus, Wellness Tips[4] can help you reach your personal health goals by offering insights, motivational tips and guidance based on the specific goal you’re looking to achieve.

Greater precision and accuracy

Accurate and comprehensive metrics are foundational to the best intelligent health experiences. Enhanced health algorithms and advanced tracking tools will provide more holistic, personalised and actionable insights when combined with AI. Since good health starts with a good night’s rest, Samsung is enhancing our sleep AI algorithm to provide additional in-depth sleep insights. Newly added sleep indicators for Sleep Insights[5] offer you a more detailed and accurate analysis of your sleep quality so you can better understand your sleep patterns and build better habits. These added metrics include movement during sleep, sleep latency, heart rate and respiratory rate during sleep in addition to previously supported metrics like snoring hours, blood oxygen level and sleep cycle.

All-new fitness features offer intelligent and effortless physical capacity measurements for more tailored training, which are traditionally provided by highly advanced equipment. In addition to the five running intensity levels of the Personalised Health Rate Zone, new detailed Aerobic Threshold (AT) / Anaerobic Threshold (AnT) Heart Rate Zone[6] metrics support efficient running while also quickly analysing performance. Plus, cyclists can easily calculate Functional Threshold Power (FTP) metrics in just 10 minutes[7] and train like a pro by using a personalised power index based on AI data analysis to maximise performance. Fitness tracking tools also help you track workouts and progress with greater convenience. With the new Workout Routine, combine various exercises for a personalised workout and seamlessly transition to the next exercise without stopping. Stay motivated and track your progress when running or cycling using Race[8], which compares current and past performance on the same routes.

“By expanding the power of Galaxy AI across our ecosystem, we’re looking to open up all new possibilities with optimised and connected experiences that offer users greater personalisation and intelligence,” said Junho Park, VP and Head of the Galaxy Ecosystem Product Planning Team, MX Business at Samsung Electronics. “The introduction of Galaxy AI to Galaxy Watch is just the beginning of this process and we’re excited to showcase even more integrations across our Galaxy portfolio very soon.”

These new features will be available on the next Galaxy Watch line-up via One UI 6 Watch, available later this year. This is only a small taste of what we have in store for our users, and we can’t wait to show the full power of Galaxy AI when integrated with the advanced hardware upgrades coming to the new Galaxy Watch series. Stay tuned for more.

[1] Samsung account login may be required for certain Samsung AI features. Samsung does not make any promises, assurances or guarantees as to the accuracy, completeness or reliability of the output provided by AI features. Availability of Galaxy AI features may vary by device model. Galaxy AI features will be provided for free until the end of 2025 on supported Samsung Galaxy devices. Different terms may apply for AI features provided by third parties.

[7] To measure personalised FTP, Galaxy smartphone must be connected to a power meter. In order to calculate a more accurate FTP, it is necessary to connect the Galaxy Watch to a smartphone. The FTP is calculated automatically when cycling occurs at a mid to high intensity level for more than 4 minutes with the cycling power meter attached to your bicycle. Using machine learning, the more users ride repeatedly, the more accurate and personalised FTP values will be calculated. The cycling power meter is sold separately. Traditional FTP analysis duration on professional equipment is up to 1 hour on average.

[8] Race is available for outdoor running and outdoor cycling only. For comparative measurements, it is required to run on the same path as the pre-generated path. Users can compare by selecting one of the records from a timeframe of up to 14 days ago. Comparing records through the Race is only available when starting at the same location as the previous record’s start point. It will be converted to the running mode automatically, if the starting points are different.

We all strive to be the best version of ourselves – fitter, happier and healthier. Small changes to our daily routines, including changes to diet, sleep habits and exercise, go a long way in helping us get the most out of work and play.

While the path to wellness is different for everyone, there’s nothing more important than to start focusing on our health from young.

Samsung’s new Galaxy Watch4 series takes health and fitness data tracking to the next level, featuring an incredible BioActive Sensor, which uses a single chip to precisely run three powerful health sensors, including Optical Heart Rate, Electrical Heart and Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis.

From monitoring blood pressure[1] [2], measuring blood oxygen levels[3], taking electrocardiography (ECG) measurements, and for the first time – calculating body composition[4] – read on to discover three ways you can make the most out of the cutting-edge data presented by the Galaxy Watch4.

Get a good night’s sleep, every day

Are you guilty of revenge bedtime procrastination? If so, is there a nagging thought in your head that it might be affecting sleep quality? You can now find out with the Galaxy Watch4’s sleep analysis function.

The sleep analysis function has been a fan favorite for users of the Galaxy Watch series, and rightly so – a good night’s sleep is fundamental to our overall mental and physical health. In fact, in the past year, Galaxy Watch users have checked their sleep patterns more than 800 million times[5]!

To give you a more comprehensive understanding of your sleep quality, the Galaxy Watch4 is designed to track both your snoring and breathing patterns – so you can make informed decisions about your sleep to help you sleep longer and better.

The Samsung Health App[6] on your smartphone can detect the sounds of your snores, while the Watch4 checks your blood oxygen levels once every second[7]. This data collectively informs your overall sleep score.

If you find yourself struggling to get a good night’s sleep based on your Watch4’s readings, you can consider following these steps[8] to improve your sleep score:

Establish a daily bedtime routine

You sleep best when your body is used to falling asleep and waking up at a fixed time every day — even on weekends or holidays.

Watch what you eat and drink before

Avoid big meals, alcohol, caffeine, heavy, spicy or sugary foods four to six hours before bedtime, as these foods stimulate the system, making sleeping difficult.

Create a good sleep environment for yourself

Block out all distracting noises and lights. A room that is too hot or too cold can keep you awake. A cool environment is often the most conducive setting for sleeping.

Accurately track fitness and health goals through body composition

Many of us may be more familiar with relying on weighing scale readings as a general indicator of health – but there are limitations to this. Such readings do not consider the amount of muscle, fat and water in your body tissues[9], unlike a more comprehensive body composition analysis.

For the first time in a Galaxy Watch, the body composition measurement tool on the Galaxy Watch4 brings a technology more commonly available in smart scales at the gym or at the clinic to your wrists!

Photo for illustration only

This is enabled by Bioelectrical Impedence Analysis (BIA), which captures 2,400 data points, delivering results in about 15 seconds.

With these insights, you can now adjust your diet and activity levels to get your body composition measurements to a healthier range.

Monitor your key health indicators regularly

On top of advanced sleep and body composition tracking, Samsung’s Bioactive Sensor also monitors blood pressure[11].

Generally, a healthy blood pressure reading should be lower than 120/80 mmHg, while a blood pressure of 140/90 mmHg or higher indicates high blood pressure[12] [13] [14]. This can damage blood vessels and can increase the risk of developing kidney failure, coronary heart disease and stroke.

To help maintain a healthy blood pressure, you can consider practicing the following lifestyle and diet habits[15]:

Moderate your sodium intake

Studies have provided strong evidence that lowering sodium intake is beneficial in reducing blood pressure.

Increase intake of fibre-rich food

Wholegrains, fruits and vegetables are high in fibre, magnesium and potassium – beneficial foods that lower blood pressure. In addition, aim for two servings of fruits and two servings of vegetables per day.

Limit fat intake

Dietary fat is high in calories and excessive intake can lead to weight gain and increase your risk of developing high blood pressure. Use less oil when cooking and remove all visible fat before eating. Select healthier cooking methods such as steaming, boiling and grilling instead of deep-frying.

Limit alcohol consumption

Frequent consumption of alcohol can cause your heart to pump harder and faster, thereby increasing blood pressure. If you choose to drink, moderate your intake of alcoholic drink to not more than one standard drink per day.

Ultimately, the simplest routines and habits can go a long way in helping us achieve our personal health and fitness goals. With the Galaxy Watch4, Samsung brings years of R&D and amazing technologies to your wrist, providing insights distilled into an easy-to-digest interface, guiding you towards making informed decisions that help improve your health, fitness and overall wellness.

[1] The Blood Pressure feature is only to be used for measuring in ages 22 and over. Intended for general wellness and fitness purposes only. Please consult a medical professional for advice. For accurate BP readings, a calibration is required every 28 days by BP monitor & arm cuff. Requires a Galaxy smartphone running Android 7.0 or above.

[2] The ECG feature is intended to create, record, store, transfer, and display a single channel electrocardiogram (ECG), similar to a Lead I ECG for adults 22 years and older. The ECG feature is not intended to replace traditional methods of diagnosis or treatment. The ECG feature is not intended for users with other known arrhythmias. If an irregular heartbeat or atrial fibrillation is detected, consult a doctor. If you experience symptoms of a heart attack, stroke, or other cardiovascular conditions, do not rely on the notification of the device and consult a doctor. FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE. IF SYMPTOMS PERSIST, WORSEN OR CHANGE UNEXPECTEDLY, TALK TO YOUR HEALTH PROFESSIONAL. Requires Samsung Galaxy Smartphone with Android 7 or later, and Samsung Health Monitor app which is available only at the Samsung Galaxy app store.

[3] The Blood Oxygen (SpO2) feature is not intended for use in the diagnosis of disease or other conditions, or in the cure, mitigation, treatment, or prevention of disease, or for the prevention or control of conception or pregnancy.
