Beyond high resolution, video trends are shifting toward mood and emotional storytelling. Samsung Electronics debuted the Advanced Professional Video (APV)

Beyond high resolution, video trends are shifting toward mood and emotional storytelling. Samsung Electronics debuted the Advanced Professional Video (APV) codec on Galaxy S26 Ultra, laying the groundwork for mobile video production while maintaining image quality and minimizing loss during editing.

In response, Samsung asked a simple question — can anyone create Hollywood-style videos on a Galaxy mobile phone? The answer is the Cinematic Look-Up Table (Cine LUT) feature on the Galaxy S26 series. While the APV codec provides the foundation for cinema-quality video, Cine LUT brings a distinct colour style to the footage.

Cine LUT makes professional-level colour grading — once reserved for experts — accessible to anyone. Samsung collaborated with internal teams and external specialists to bring this feature to life. The Mobile eXperience (MX) Business led final camera implementation, Samsung Research developed core video processing technologies and U5K Imageworks — a colourist studio behind globally recognized productions — helped shape its visual aesthetic.

Following the introduction of the APV codec, which delivers a visually lossless level of image quality, Samsung Newsroom spoke with three key developers behind Cine LUT — Sugon Baek of the Camera Image Quality R&D Group at the MX Business, Bomi Kim of the Reality Media Lab at Samsung Research and Taesik Eom, CEO of U5K Imageworks — to hear the story of its creation.

▲ (From left) Taesik Eom, Bomi Kim and Sugon Baek

Q. What is a LUT? What sets Cine LUT on the Galaxy S26 series apart?

Baek: A LUT is essentially a “map” that transforms one set of colours into a desired look. Unlike conventional filters that simply overlay colour, Cine LUT reinterprets Samsung Log[1] footage to deliver the depth and look of professional filmmaking.

Kim: It’s optimized for Log video. By leveraging its wide gradation,[2] this feature precisely reconstructs colour and brightness to preserve subtle tonal details often lost with conventional filters for richer, more natural depth.

▲ Comparison of Log footage in standard settings and with the Coming-of-age LUT and Romance LUT

Q. What led to the development of Cine LUT?

Kim: While Galaxy devices supported Log video for high-quality capture, colour grading remained challenging for users. We aimed to make professional-looking results accessible without advanced editing skills.

Baek: We wanted to create an experience that lets users preview cinematic footage at the moment of capture, then apply a LUT and share the video with a single tap in the Gallery.

▲ (From left) Bomi Kim of the Reality Media Lab at Samsung Research and Sugon Baek of the Camera Image Quality R&D Group at MX Business

Q. How did the collaboration with U5K Imageworks begin? How was Cine LUT developed?

Eom: Our collaboration began two years ago with Rec. 709 LUT advisory work for Samsung Log video, where we refined strong colours into more natural tones — an experience that led to Cine LUT. For this project, we developed multiple versions across three intensity levels — neutral, soft and strong — and tested them in diverse scenes, ultimately selecting four core styles.

Kim: Building on U5K’s colour direction, we validated the concepts against quantitative criteria to ensure consistent performance in different environments, refining them through testing until creative intent and technical quality aligned.

▲ Taesik Eom, CEO of U5K Imageworks

Q.What challenges did you face during development?

Kim: We needed a large dataset to validate performance across diverse conditions. Testing in real-world environments — from natural and indoor lighting to day and night — and close collaboration were key to capturing the nuances of colour.

Baek: Maintaining consistent, undistorted colour in different environments was challenging. Through continuous testing, we developed a LUT that balances subjective preference with objective quality.

Q. What was the key consideration in creating looks optimized for mobile phones?

Eom: Ensuring reliable performance in real-world conditions was key. Since lighting, exposure and white balance constantly vary, we focused on creating looks that remain natural in any situation.

Kim: Quality was our top priority. We analyzed each frame and validated performance using tools like colour charts, gray balance and vector scopes.

Q. Why were these four styles chosen for the Galaxy S26 series?

Baek: We analyzed the visual language of popular film genres and identified four representative styles. From the high-contrast Blockbuster to the fresh Coming-of-age, warm Romance and moody Thriller, each colour palette was designed to give everyday scenes an instant cinematic look.

https://img.global.news.samsung.com/ca/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/Samsung-LUT-Application-Demo-EN-1.mp4

▲ Users can preview Cine LUTs when shooting in Log and easily apply them to recorded footage using editing tools.

Q. Which Cine LUT styles do you recommend for different situations?

Eom: There’s no fixed answer — it depends on the situation. Blockbuster suits high-contrast environments like outdoor and urban scenes; Coming-of-age fits soft, trendy settings like cafes or vlogs; Romance adds warmth to character-driven scenes; and Thriller creates a more striking impression.

Q. What stood out to you in user feedback?

Baek: We expected it might be seen as just another video effect, but the response exceeded expectations. Users quickly recognized that combining Log shooting with Cine LUTs expands creative possibilities beyond simple filters. We’re also seeing more users choose styles based on the scene, with high-quality videos widely shared on social media — and even inspiring new ways to create content.

Q. What are your plans for the future?

Baek: We aim to further establish the Galaxy S26 series as a professional-grade camera. We hope to see more content that resonates with both creators and viewers and will continue to set new standards in video creation.

Kim: As the world changes rapidly, our goal is to identify next-generation technologies. Through close collaboration with business divisions, we will work to bring them into products and deliver innovative experiences to users around the world.

▲ Baek, Eom and Kim watch a video with Cine LUT applied.

Born from close collaboration, Cine LUT on the Galaxy S26 series transforms everyday moments into cinematic visuals. Beyond its technical achievements, this feature marks an important step toward making video creation more accessible — lowering barriers once reserved for professionals and enabling anyone to express themselves.

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. today announced a significant advancement in Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) technology, successfully validating 5G Power Class 1

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. today announced a significant advancement in Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) technology, successfully validating 5G Power Class 1 (PC1) capability through its virtualized RAN (vRAN) and the Qualcomm Dragonwing FWA Gen 4 Platform featuring the Qualcomm® X85 Modem-RF chipset. This reflects Samsung and Qualcomm Technologies Inc.’s commitment to enhancing FWA performance and coverage to deliver more seamless connectivity across congested urban environments, as well as remote or low-signal areas.

Power Class (PC) is a 3GPPTM[1] standard that defines how strongly a device can transmit its signal, with a lower-class number indicating a higher output power. Higher power is critical for improving signal quality and extending network reach, especially useful in harder-to-reach areas. At the same time, the rise of data-and time-intensive services like physical AI, autonomous systems and AR/VR is driving a surge in upload demand. PC1 is expected to be a key factor in elevating the FWA user experience by offering fiber-like uplink speeds and reducing bottlenecks, which will support the demands of evolving technologies and next-generation AI services.

The test was completed at Samsung’s R&D lab using its fully software-driven vRAN solution, 3.7GHz Massive MIMO radios and Qualcomm Technologies’ X85 chipset-equipped test device. Key technical findings include:

Up to 10x Uplink Throughput Enhancement: During the lab test, the application of PC1 technology achieved up to 10 times higher uplink throughput at the cell-edge compared to PC1.5 standard. For users, this means smoother video calls and faster file upload in areas where signals are typically weakest, like remote regions or isolated corners of buildings.

4x Coverage Expansion: In addition to performance improvements, PC1 is capable of extending the coverage range by up to 40% more compared to PC1.5. This allows individual devices to stay connected across a much wider area, maintaining strong signals even when farther away from a base station.

“As networks continue to evolve and support more AI-driven services, high-performance wireless infrastructure becomes more essential,” said Eun Yong Kim, Vice President and Head of Air Technology, Networks Business at Samsung Electronics. “This validation highlights Samsung’s readiness to bring advanced technologies to market with partners like Qualcomm Technologies, empowering operators to deliver faster, more efficient networks that are ready to handle everything from seamless industrial data transmission to increasingly data-heavy user experiences.”

“With its higher transmission power, PC1 technology expands both the performance and reach of FWA devices,” said Gautam Sheoran, Senior Vice President & General Manager, Connectivity, Broadband and Networking at Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. “Our collaboration with Samsung demonstrates how ecosystem innovation is driving smarter, more capable networks — bringing stronger, more reliable connectivity to every day users.”

Building on the successful lab test, the companies have also recently conducted field tests on a U.S. Tier 1 operator’s network, with the feature expected to be commercially available in 2027.

Samsung Networks has pioneered the successful delivery of 5G end-to-end solutions, including chipsets, radios and cores. Through ongoing research and development, Samsung is driving the industry to advance 5G networks and paving the way for 6G and beyond with its market-leading product portfolio, from purpose-built RAN, vRAN, Open RAN, AI RAN and cloud-native core to private network solutions and AI-powered automation tools. The company currently provides innovative network solutions to mobile operators that deliver boundless connectivity to hundreds of millions of users worldwide.

Code Ninjas, a leading coding education franchise for kids, recently partnered with Samsung Electronics Canada to help transform their classrooms into dynamic spaces where creativity, problem-solving and confidence can thrive.

The challenge in teaching students is that there are so many different learning styles – not everyone learns the same way. In many classrooms, aged technology and unreliable solutions create more distractions and disjoint the learning process, as instructors are troubleshooting tech and not engaging with their students. Also with static display boards, problem solving can’t be tested in real-time and can only be explained as right or wrong.

Code Ninjas strives for engagement and needed a solution that could maximize their students’ attention. Something that could adapt on the fly, demonstrate coding paths real-time and keep the students focused and motivated. This is where Samsung displays came to the rescue.

Designed to support hands-on learning, Code Ninjas chose the Samsung Interactive Display WAF for their classrooms for a seamless integration, giving instructors powerful tools to bring lessons to life. From guiding students through coding challenges to visualizing complex concepts in real time, the displays help make abstract ideas more accessible and interactive for young learners.

“Educators strive to create exciting and engaging spaces for young minds to grow, and Samsung’s interactive displays help to foster that environment where curiosity leads the way,” said James Arndt, Head of the Enterprise Business Division at Samsung Electronics Canada. “Students benefit from the clear visuals and responsive touch capabilities that encourage exploration and experimentation.”

As display technology continues to advance, educational institutions with outdated teaching technology may want to consider how they engage their students as well as meet the needs of varying learning styles. With the latest display technology from Samsung engaging curious young minds, innovation and the future of education go hand in hand.

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. today announced the global launch of the 32-inch Samsung Spatial Signage (SMHX model), adding a compact format to its glasses-free 3D commercial display lineup. Designed for narrow shelves and counters, it gives brands a flexible way to present product-focused content in full 3D rotation.[1]

“The 32-inch Spatial Signage makes immersive 3D accessible across a much wider range of commercial environments,” said Hyoung Jae Kim, Executive Vice President of the Visual Display (VD) Business at Samsung Electronics. “Combined with our growing portfolio of displays and solutions, the new model reflects Samsung’s commitment to building a connected commercial display ecosystem that customers can rely on, wherever they operate.”

Smaller Format, Bigger Impact at Shelf Level

The 32-inch model follows the global rollout of the 85-inch Spatial Signage earlier this year. While the 85-inch model is designed for large, high-impact retail installations with life-size product visuals, the 32-inch model brings the same glasses-free 3D experience to shelves, counters and other compact spaces.

Suited for a wide range of environments, including retail, public spaces, entertainment venues, education and hospitality, the smaller format brings immersive 3D content to places where close-up visibility matters most. The 32-inch Spatial Signage helps highlight featured products, promotional content, exhibit information, campus messaging and other high-impact content.

Spatial Signage uses Samsung’s patented 3D Plate technology, which applies binocular parallax to deliver different images to each eye, creating cinematic depth without 3D glasses. It retains full clarity while showing all sides of a product in realistic 360-degree rotation.

Weighing just 8.5 kg with a sleek 49.4 mm slim profile, the 32-inch model features FHD resolution (1,080 x 1,920) in a 9:16 portrait format. Unlike bulky box-type 3D displays, it is lightweight, easy to install and compatible with industry-standard VESA wall mounts for wall or stand placement, much like conventional signage.[2]

Spatial Signage has earned industry recognition, including a CES 2026 Innovation Award in the Enterprise Tech category and a Silver award at the Edison Awards. Going forward, Samsung plans to further expand the Spatial Signage lineup with new sizes, including a 55-inch model[3].

More Control and Creativity With Samsung VXT

Samsung also announced new updates to Samsung VXT, its cloud-based digital signage platform.[4] The update brings new capabilities to Samsung’s full digital signage portfolio,[5] including Spatial Signage. Businesses can use VXT to manage connected screens across multiple locations, schedule and automate content delivery and create signage-ready video content directly within the platform.

To further enhance remote management, Samsung has added scheduling capabilities to screen presets, allowing screen settings such as brightness, volume and on/off timers to be applied across connected displays at a designated time or according to a set schedule, including outside operating hours. VXT also includes Smart Download, which helps minimize network traffic load by enabling content to be downloaded by some screens and shared with other connected screens on the same network.[6]

Released earlier this month, AI Studio app enables users to create signage-ready videos from a single product image and a text prompt, with an option to upscale output to 4K UHD resolution at 60 frames per second. The app also includes an option to optimize content for Spatial Signage to enhance the overall 3D viewing experience.

Samsung VXT has also expanded its content management capabilities with the following features:

Event now includes automated content transitions, adding new event types, like weather conditions. This allows businesses to automatically display content based on real-world weather[7] For example, signage can promote rain gear in wet weather and switch to sun hats in sunny conditions, allowing businesses to manage content more dynamically across different scenarios.

Multiple Takeover enables synchronized content transitions across all linked screens based on a preset schedule and playback cycle, allowing centralized control over large-scale content campaigns.

Streaming Widget enables real-time streaming of live broadcast content directly on connected displays, with support for closed caption settings.

Samsung’s continued focus on advancing both display hardware and platform capabilities has contributed to its position as the world’s No. 1 commercial display provider for 17 consecutive years.[8] For more information, visit the Samsung Canada website.

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. today announced that a joint clinical study with Chung-Ang University Gwangmyeong Hospital in Korea has successfully validated the ability to predict vasovagal syncope (VVS) with high accuracy by utilizing biosignals obtained from Galaxy Watch6.

Vasovagal syncope occurs when a person’s heart rate and blood pressure drop abruptly due to factors like excessive stress, leading to a temporary loss of consciousness. While the fainting spell itself is typically not life-threatening, sudden falls can cause severe secondary injuries like fractures or concussions, making early prediction critically important for prevention.

“Up to 40% of people experience vasovagal syncope over their lifetime, with one-third experiencing recurrent episodes,” said Professor Junhwan Cho of the Department of Cardiology at Chung-Ang University Gwangmyeong Hospital. “An early warning could give patients advance time to get into a safe position or call for help, which would dramatically reduce the incidence of secondary injuries.”

The joint research team, led by Professor Cho, conducted evaluations on 132 patients with suspected VVS symptoms during induced fainting tests. Using a Galaxy Watch equipped with a photoplethysmography (PPG) sensor[1], the team analyzed the watch’s heart rate variability (HRV) data with an AI algorithm. The model successfully predicted impending fainting episodes up to five minutes in advance with 84.6 percent accuracy, at a clinically meaningful sensitivity of 90 percent and a specificity of 64 percent.

“This study is an example of how wearable technology can help shift healthcare from being designed for ‘post-care’ to a model of ‘preventive care,’” said Jongmin Choi, Head of Health R&D Group, Mobile eXperience (MX) Business, Samsung Electronics. “We are committed to driving technological innovation that empowers our users to lead healthier everyday lives.”

The research findings were published in Volume 7, Issue 4 of “European Heart Journal – Digital Health,” a leading medical journal, and they represent the world’s first study to successfully demonstrate the potential for a commercial smartwatch to provide early prediction of syncope.

Samsung plans to further advance the health monitoring capabilities of its wearable portfolio and expand collaboration with leading medical institutions. Through these efforts, Samsung aims to lead the digital health industry and accelerate the implementation of personalized, preventive health solutions.

[1] For accurate blood pressure readings, a calibration is required every 4 weeks by a blood pressure monitor and arm cuff. Requires a Galaxy smartphone running Android 10.0 or above. The Blood Pressure feature is not intended for use by people under 22 years old or who are pregnant. It is not intended to replace traditional methods for diagnosis or treatment of hypertension. It cannot be used to diagnose hypertension, other conditions, or check for signs of a heart attack. Users should not interpret or take clinical action based on the device output without consultation with a qualified healthcare professional and validation with a standard measurement method.

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. today announced the global launch of its full 2026 TV lineup, spanning premium models such as Micro RGB, OLED and Neo QLED, as well as mainstream Mini LED and UHD TVs. In its 20th year as the world’s No. 1 TV brand[1], Samsung is expanding AI-powered features across more models, bringing smarter picture, sound and personalized viewing experiences to more consumers worldwide.

In 2026, Samsung is expanding Vision AI Companion (VAC) features across its 4K-and-above TV line up, reflecting its broader strategy to make AI a central part of the TV experience. The expansion brings AI-powered viewing to more categories, screen sizes and consumer needs.[2]

“With our 2026 lineup, Samsung is setting a new benchmark for AI TVs worldwide,” said Hun Lee, Executive Vice President of the Visual Display (VD) Business at Samsung Electronics. “Samsung AI TVs will go beyond entertainment to deliver practical benefits in everyday life, helping people find what they want faster, enjoy content more easily and make more of their TV time.”

Vision AI Companion Brings Smarter, More Immersive Viewing

Vision AI Companion (VAC) brings together Samsung’s broadest range of AI service platforms, including Bixby, Perplexity and Microsoft Copilot, to make the TV experience more intelligent and personalized. Designed to work alongside users as an entertainment companion, VAC can help guide what to watch, what to eat and what to listen to, extending the role of the TV beyond viewing alone. The AI TV lineup also brings AI-enhanced entertainment features to movies, sports and gaming:

AI Upscaling Pro: uses AI to analyze and enhance low-resolution content in real time, delivering greater detail, depth and contrast, while Colour Booster Pro analyzes and categorizes scenes to provide more vivid, lifelike colour.[3]

AI Soccer Mode: analyzes match scenes in real time to optimize picture and sound for smoother ball movement, vivid colour and more immersive stadium audio.

AI Sound Controller Pro: analyzes dialogue, background music and sound effects in real time, letting users adjust elements such as commentary and crowd noise for a more immersive experience.[4]

Micro RGB: Defining the Future of Premium Picture Quality

Micro RGB expands Samsung’s premium TV experience across a wider range of screen sizes, bringing highly precise colour, brightness and immersive AI-powered viewing to more consumers. Available in the R95H and R85H series in sizes from 65 to 115 inches, Micro RGB is built on Samsung’s proprietary Micro RGB Technology, which uses individually controlled red, green and blue micro LEDs to deliver highly precise light control, richer detail and more natural colour. Additionally, Glare Free technology[5] minimizes light reflection in bright environments, helping preserve a clear viewing experience across a range of lighting conditions.

Micro RGB also brings VAC and other AI-optimized features to Samsung’s premium large-screen category, adding more intelligent and personalized viewing experiences. Micro RGB AI Engine Pro fine-tunes colour, motion and depth, so viewers stay immersed in every scene. With Micro RGB Precision Colour 100, colour expression appears fuller and more lifelike, with support for 100% colour coverage of BT.2020.

Micro RGB Colour Booster Pro and Micro RGB HDR Pro[6] leverage Samsung’s AI technology to further refine picture quality by optimizing colour and contrast scene by scene, helping deliver more vibrant visuals across a wide range of brightness levels.

Reinforcing Samsung’s focus on premium viewing comfort, the R95H has also received both the Safety for Eyes and Circadian Rhythm Display (CRD) certifications from Verband Deutscher Elektrotechniker (VDE), a leading global testing institute based in Germany.

OLED: Expanding the Lineup for More Viewing Preferences

Samsung’s 2026 OLED TVs include the S95H, S90H and S85H, offering deep blacks, rich colour, immersive performance and refined design across a wider range of viewing preferences. Glare Free technology, previously available only on the S95F model, now expands to both the S95H and the S90H, helping the display’s true blacks and rich colours stay clear and undisturbed, even in bright rooms.

On the flagship S95H, Samsung adds premium features designed to elevate both entertainment and art. Pantone Validated ArtfulColour helps preserve the authenticity of original artwork with faithful colour and exceptional detail, while Art Store[7] extends Samsung’s art experiences to OLED. The model’s FloatLayer Design also gives the display a lighter, more refined presence that blends in more naturally with the home.

For gaming and sports, Samsung OLED’s Ultimate Gaming Pack helps keep fast motion crisp and responsive. It brings together Motion Xcelerator 165Hz[8], support for key VRR platforms such as AMD FreeSync Premium Pro and NVIDIA G-SYNC Compatible, and quick-access gaming tools for smoother, more intuitive play.

For soccer fans, AI Soccer Mode Pro[9] on S95H and S90H — and AI Soccer Mode on S85H — optimize picture and sound in real time for a more immersive match experience at home.

The Frame: Elevating the Art TV Experience

Neo QLED: Enhanced Picture Quality With More Connected Experiences

Samsung’s Neo QLED brings together enhanced AI picture quality and more connected viewing experiences across the QN80H and QN70H, with the QN80H available in sizes from 50 to 100 inches and the QN70H in sizes from 43 to 85 inches. Each model delivers the brightness, contrast and smart optimization expected from a true QLED experience.

Certified by TÜV Rheinland as a Real QLED TV, Samsung Neo QLED uses a blue light backlight and a genuine quantum dot sheet to maintain a stable colour spectrum and consistent picture performance. Real QLED with 100% Colour Volume[12] helps keep colour accurate and stable, even at high brightness levels. Quantum Mini LED also enables ultra-precise light control, creating deeper contrast, clearer detail and more consistent brightness scene after scene.

VAC makes the viewing experience more seamless and context-aware by naturally surfacing helpful information on screen without interrupting content.

Whether it’s coordinating family logistics, staying on top of work, or carving out a moment to recharge, Samsung’s Galaxy ecosystem works intelligently across devices to simplify everyday routines. From AI-powered assistance on her phone, to wellness insights that support better sleep and recovery, to seamless connectivity between devices, the experience is designed to reduce friction and give moms more control over their time.

“Today’s moms are constantly balancing competing priorities,” says Laura Donaldson, Head of Marketing, Mobile at Samsung Canada. “That’s why we’re focused on advancing more agentic, intuitive Galaxy AI experiences that take on everyday tasks and help make life feel more effortless. With Galaxy AI at the center of our ecosystem, our devices work together seamlessly in the background. That means more time focusing on what matters most.”

For the mom who keeps everything running: Galaxy S26 Ultra

From coordinating school drop-offs to managing work meetings and family group chats, the Galaxy S26 Ultra acts like a smart assistant in her pocket. Galaxy AI[1] helps her quickly summarize long message threads, organize her calendar, and plan on the go so she can stay one step ahead without feeling overwhelmed. Its pro-grade camera also makes capturing everyday moments effortless, whether she’s snapping a clear shot from the back row at a school recital or grabbing a quick photo of the kids mid-play at the park, she gets sharp, vibrant results without needing to adjust a thing. And when she does, it’s easy to instantly share those moments with loved ones, whether they’re on Galaxy or other devices, thanks to seamless cross-platform sharing like AirDrop[2] compatibility. And with everything syncing effortlessly across her Galaxy devices, from reminders to wellness insights, her day stays connected without the extra effort.
