When rushing to catch a flight, the last thing any traveller needs is further hassle when searching for flight information.

A problem many airports face is finding the right digital display technology to communicate live updates as efficiently as possible. With innovative digital displays from Samsung Electronics Canada, you can see how cutting-edge display solutions have been used to improve efficiencies and optimize both business and personal travel in major airports, like Toronto Pearson International Airport, Edmonton International Airport and Istanbul Airport.

The Greater Toronto Airport Authority (GTAA) was searching for innovative digital signage with custom enclosures, designed to meet the esthetics of the surrounding architectural environment at Toronto Pearson International Airport. As experts in digital signage and innovative technology, Samsung Electronics Canada was able to provide appropriate display solutions, such as its innovative IP56 IK10 fully-outdoor 85” displays, which were used to enhance the overall experience of travellers. Twenty displays were installed at Terminal 1, with an additional 11 displays implemented in Terminal 3, offering an outdoor display technology upgrade, and helping travellers stay informed from the minute they arrive at the airport.

Through these installations, Samsung Electronics Canada helped Toronto Pearson offer a digitally-driven experience for its passengers, with timely updates promoting efficiencies for passengers. This helped one of North America’s busiest and largest airports secure its position as an innovation hub and launch pad for airport technology best practices.

Problem-solving right across the country, Samsung Electronics Canada also helped increase efficiency and communications at Edmonton International Airport (“EIA”). Samsung partnered with PATTISON Outdoor Advertising to mount a 4K HDR LED display screen in a high-traffic area. The 32’ x 12’ sized screen, coupled with its bright and detailed image quality and viewing angles, ensured that travellers were able to access critical information and updates in a visually enticing and impactful way, while also allowing EIA to meet their goal of digitizing their terminal.

Even when it comes to international airports, Samsung has provided innovative solutions for some of the world’s largest. Istanbul Airport set a goal of becoming the largest international airport in the world, which Samsung has aided by implementing its SMART Signage. The project included nearly 700 Samsung SMART LCD and LED displays, including the 193-sqm LED screen to welcome passengers. For the Helsinki Airport in Finland, Samsung’s heritage in digital signage made them the ideal partner for Finavia, who were looking to ensure their passengers were left with a memorable and lasting experience of Finland, from the moment they arrived.

Both here in Canada and overseas, Samsung is committed to providing industry-leading digital display solutions to the world’s major travel hubs. With a wide offering of products to choose from, Samsung is able to pull from cutting-edge tech options to create customized digital signage plans for clients.

Mississauga, ON – April 10, 2018 – Travelers passing through Edmonton International Airport (EIA) can now enjoy Canada’s largest 4K HDR LED display within an airport, thanks to a new state-of-the-art installation by Samsung Canada and PATTISON Outdoor Advertising. Every day, 9,000 travelers pass through the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA) central security area at EIA1, spending a significant amount of dwell time there.

To help reduce stress levels and elevate the travel experience overall, key information ranging from security waiting periods to gate time and details will be shown on the new 4K HDR LED display. Given that close to 40 per cent of global airport revenues are estimated to come from non-aeronautical sources2, the stunning landmark LED screen is also used to advertise onsite EIA retail, food and beverage options, parking and more. The board will also be able to provide emergency updates in special circumstances as well as entertainment and live broadcast coverage.

“As a leader in digital technology, we are pleased to partner with the EIA and PATTISON teams to create the largest 4K HDR LED airport display in Canada – an innovative and stunning solution that has the ability to help elevate the travel experience for passengers,” said Mary Peterson, Vice President, IT & Enterprise Solutions, Samsung Canada.

Samsung has the ability to build seamless video walls that can adapt to any dimension, shape or curve. The stadium-screen sized display at EIA is 32’ x 12’ in size, providing eye-catching, bright and detailed image quality from wide viewing angles thanks to its fine 2.5mm pixel pitch.

The new Samsung IF series boasts innovative HDR technology, creating a true-to-life viewing experience with high quality content. With limited wall space available for mounting within EIA’s central security area, the dynamic, dual-sided 4K HDR LED display was installed from the ceiling for maximum visibility and impact.

“This extraordinary Samsung digital display screen was exactly what we needed for our drive to digitize our terminal,” said Myron Keehn, Vice President of Air Service and Commercial Development, Edmonton International Airport. “This board allows us to improve our passenger experience by providing travelers with information more efficiently as well as provide opportunities for advertisers to promote their product or services on state-of-the-art technology at EIA.”

PATTISON Outdoor, Canada’s largest Out-of-Home advertising provider and leader in airport advertising, manages the advertising operations for EIA. Providing EIA and its clients with high-quality products in highly sought-after locations, PATTISON prides itself on offering clients total advertising solutions that include everything from campaign conception, to design, through to completion. With PATTISON, advertisers benefit from a range of services to optimize their campaign. PATTISON’s full range of premium product formats in high-dwell areas at the EIA give advertisers an exceptional opportunity to engage a desirable consumer group made up of a higher-than-average income demographic.

1 Based on passenger statistics from Edmonton International Airport from February 2017-February 2018.

2 According to the 2014 Airports Council International (ACI) Airport Economics Report: http://www.aci-na.org/sites/default/files/aci_airport_economics_report_aci_na.pdf.

“Located at central security, the display targets a desirable and high-income consumer group made up of domestic and international travellers, and pairs advertising alongside timely airport information,” said Brian de Ruiter, Vice President and General Manager, Prairie Region at PATTISON Outdoor. “This integrated wayfinding solution displays time and security waiting periods, and demonstrates our commitment to growing our digital airport portfolio at the Edmonton Airport and to offering advertisers highly-visible and premium products in exclusive settings.”
