Mississauga, ON – January 10, 2018 – Samsung Electronics Canada today announced that it is bringing its next generation laundry innovation to Canada: the WW6850N washing machine featuring revolutionary QuickDrive technology. Responding to consumer demand for speed and cleaning performance, the 24” compact washer cleans laundry up to 35% faster compared to current Samsung models¹. The WW6850N is on display at International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) at the Samsung booth (#15006) on Level 1 of the Central Hall in the Las Vegas Convention Center from January 9-12, 2018.

With more young Canadians buying homes, this new cohort of digitally savvy homebuyers is demanding home appliances that incorporate meaningful, personalized technology to enhance their lives. The WW6850N with QuickDrive technology is the latest in a line of differentiated laundry innovations, including the activewash Top Load Washer, AddWash Front Load Washer and FlexWash + FlexDry laundry pair.

The WW6850N washer’s innovative performance starts with QuickDrive technology, which features a large main drum and a back plate that move independently. This creates a dynamic action that moves clothes in four directions – up and down, and back and forth – to quickly, gently and thoroughly remove dirt for a more powerful and intense wash cycle that takes up to 35% less time than other comparable Samsung machines¹.

Additionally, at 24” wide and stackable, the WW6850N washer and its companion dryer are an ideal size for smaller spaces like apartments, first floor laundry rooms or closets just off the master suite, to conveniently tackle loads quickly and effectively.

The WW6850N is IoT-ready and compatible with Samsung’s SmartThings ecosystem. Its Q-rator laundry assistant has smart capabilities that simplify the washing cycle with intuitive features:

• Laundry Recipe provides automatic recommendations for optimal wash cycles based on the color, fabric type, and degree of soiling inputted by the user.

• Laundry Planner allows consumers to manage the time that a wash cycle will finish, adjusting cycle settings accordingly.

• HomeCare Wizard monitors the washer to keep it operating at optimal performance and provides easy-to-follow maintenance instructions.

A 2018 CES Innovations Award honoree, the WW6850N washing machine with QuickDrive technology will be available in Canada this spring.

Samsung FlexSystem features two innovative machines, FlexWash and FlexDry, which are each equipped with a front-load compartment for normal or bulky loads as well as a top-load compartment for running smaller loads, such as delicates, at the same time.

From laundering athletic wear to sweaters, Samsung has provided new ways for Canadians to approach the laundry process in their homes. To celebrate the launch of FlexSystem in Canada, Samsung has enlisted the support of Canadian lifestyle expert, Shoana Jensen, to advise on the latest tips and tricks in laundry care.

“As someone who is constantly on the go, flexibility in my day-to-day life is always welcomed,” said Shoana Jensen, lifestyle expert. “Whether it’s a client meeting in the morning or an industry event in the evening, Samsung FlexSystem is the ultimate laundry solution for accommodating a busy schedule with the ability to wear what I want, when I want.” Among Jensen’s key takeaways for laundry care include dividing loads of laundry according to fabric type and colour, as well as carefully reading clothing tags, which often advise on how to care for a particular item.

According to a recent survey commissioned by Samsung Canada¹, Canadians are invested in laundry care with three out of four willing to take the extra step to ensure clothing is cared for correctly. Top detailed findings from the survey include:

• More Canadians (74 per cent) are willing to take extra steps to do their laundry by the correct fabric care instructions, with only one quarter (26 per cent) less likely to go the extra mile when caring for their clothes.

• However, six out of 10 Canadians are willing to cut corners when it comes to separating clothing in the correct colour/cycle pile. With SuperSpeed technology featured in Samsung FlexWash, Canadians can now take more time to divide their clothing beforehand as washing time is reduced by up to 50 per cent², without sacrificing cleaning.

• Almost two-thirds of Canadians (63 per cent) surveyed take three and a half hours or less to complete two loads of laundry (from sorting, washing and drying).

Based on insight from the survey, Samsung FlexSystem is an intuitive solution for Canadians looking to practice an efficient and effective way to sort on the fly and tackle the laundry process. The ability to operate all four compartments separately and simultaneously addresses strong consumer demand for an approach that values laundry care with greater flexibility. Samsung FlexSystem Wi-Fi connectivity also makes laundry feel less of a chore, allowing Canadians to monitor cycle times, receive alerts when the cycle is complete and schedule cycles with their smartphone³.

The Samsung FlexWash lower washer features 5.8 cu. ft. capacity – among the largest in its class⁴ – to handle the bulkiest of loads, saving you time. The additional top-load compartment provides another 1.1 cu ft., which is ideal for separate loads like light clothing or athletic wear, to ensure your different types of clothes get the best possible care. Samsung FlexDry can easily handle large loads and a few delicate items at the same time. The bottom compartment features 7.5 cu. ft., enough to handle larger laundry loads.

Within the two machines, each distinct laundry compartment includes features to tackle washing needs The FlexWash front-loader is equipped with 5.8 cubic feet of capacity – among the largest in its class¹– to handle normal or bulky loads. Meanwhile, the FlexWash top-loader adds another 1.1 cubic feet of capacity and is built to wash smaller loads separately from the main load. To power through big laundry loads, users can operate both washers at the same time with different settings.

To dry fabrics, FlexDry has the ability to tackle large laundry loads with the added flexibility to dry a few delicate items at the same time. Users can lay clothes flat in the unique Delicate Rack zone at the top of the dryer and gently dry delicates with a controlled, heated air flow. The special zone adjusts the heat between room temperature and 35 degrees Celsius automatically depending on the type of fabric being dried. The main dryer compartment also uses MultiSteam technology to freshen and disinfect clothes while reducing odours and wrinkles.

The new FlexSystem laundry approach was developed to transform the marketplace as consumers discover an efficient and effective way to sort on the fly and tackle the laundry process. The ability to operate all four compartments separately and simultaneously addresses strong consumer demand to wash clothes faster while still keeping items separate.

The new FlexWash washer uses three core Samsung laundry technologies: SuperSpeed^TM, PowerFoam^TM and Vibration Reduction Technology (VRT). SuperSpeed shortens wash cycles to as little as 30 minutes from the usual 60 minutes, while PowerFoam technology uses an innovative mixture of water, air and detergent to deep clean event the bulkiest items with the power of foam. VRT is engineered to minimize vibration and keep the noise level down.

For ease of use and installation, the FlexWash washer does not require two separate water lines. Additionally, easy-to-reach top-load areas on each washer and dryer unit allow consumers to more comfortably load or unload laundry. And transparent glass on the top-load compartments makes it simple to check on laundry cycles at a glance.

Finally, FlexSystem is IoT-enabled, backed by smart features that will allow users to control the FlexWash + FlexDry machines with their smartphones², using the Samsung Smart Home app. They will be able to start, stop and monitor every cycle for both machines.  

FlexWash + FlexDry are both CES Innovation Award honourees in 2017, continuing a string of wins for innovations including activewash^TM in 2015 and AddWash^TM in 2016.

Family Hub Expanded Across Models

Family Hub 2.0 will be available across a full range of Samsung 3-Door and 4-Door French Door models as well as the existing 4-Door Flex lineup, allowing Canadian consumers to choose the refrigerator that best matches their household needs.

Key Enhancements in Usability with Improved App Integration and Voice Technology

With the Family Hub 2.0, usability and food management have been enhanced through expanded and intuitive app integration. Consumers can determine which food items need to be replenished through the internal View Inside cameras and the Recipe app, powered by AllRecipes, features recipe readout and enlarged text to make it easier for users to multi-task in the kitchen.

The Family Hub 2.0 has also been enhanced when it comes to family communications. An entirely new and easy-to-use interface has been developed to enable family members to create their own profiles using avatars or their own personal pictures. With the 21.5-inch LED touchscreen serving as an interactive digital bulletin board, family members can then, through their profiles and the Family Hub app on their smartphone¹, share photos, access updated calendars, handwrite memos in real time and post memos from wherever they may be.

For a more convenient kitchen experience, advanced voice technology from Samsung has also been integrated across many of Family Hub 2.0’s apps. For example, consumers can use voice commands to learn about the weather, time, add products to shopping lists, manage to-do-lists as well as calendar schedules, in addition to controlling various other apps.

To provide further upcoming choices for food delivery and cooking, location-based safety and home security services, and entertainment offerings, Samsung is also collaborating closely with partners to develop new content.

The Family Hub is a two-time CES Innovation Award honouree; first with Family Hub 1.0 in 2016 and again this year in the home appliances and software/UI categories.

Samsung Brings Innovation to the Built-in Appliance Category

Signaling the company’s commitment to investing in categories in which its expertise and innovation can enrich and empower the lives of consumers, Samsung also introduced its new smart built-in cooking line at CES 2017. The new product line includes various models of Built-in Double and Single Wall Ovens, Built-in Gas Cooktops, Built-in Induction Cooktops, Built-in Electric Cooktops, and Built-in Range Hoods, all of which seamlessly merge into any new kitchen design or remodel.

The Built-in Double Wall Oven incorporates Samsung Flex Duo technology, enabling three distinct oven spaces that can be individually controlled with the Samsung Smart Divider. The Built-in Ovens also utilize SteamBake and SteamRoast functions for better control of taste and texture, and the new Built-in Cooktops feature powerful burners and customizable configurations. The Built-in Cooktops’ new Magnetic Knob feature and Virtual Flame Technology also deliver precise cooking control and simplicity when it comes to cleaning. All a user needs to do is remove the knob and wipe down the surface – overcoming the tedious, and time-consuming painpoint of having to scrub away to remove grime on cooktops.

All of the built-in appliances from Samsung are smart and equipped with Wi-Fi connectivity², so users can remotely start, control and turn off their ovens, as well as monitor their cooktop and range hood from their smartphone¹. Bluetooth connectivity syncs the cooktop with the Samsung range hood to automatically start the hood’s fans or lights when using the cooktop.
