When asked about the deciding factor that made Schlegel Villages begin the switch to the Samsung Galaxy XCover6 Pro, Director of IT Operations, Bill Bowern expressed that the ease and interconnectedness of the Galaxy ecosystem was a critical draw. The devices seamless connectivity presented the opportunity for Schlegel Village teams to run more efficiently in high pressure situations, such as immediately documenting information in critical situations.

Schlegel Villages is a leading provider of long-term care and retirement communities across southern Ontario, dedicated to providing exceptional essential care to its residents. Employing thousands of caregivers across the province and with expansion plans in sight, Schlegel Villages needed devices that their employees could count on.

“It will become an essential tool for every part of the employees’ day,” Bowern says when speaking about the Galaxy XCover6 Pro. “PSWs can save hours daily through real-time documentation, nurses can complete hand hygiene audits, and maintenance staff can use the camera feature to capture photos of broken items, building leaks, and efficient processing of maintenance requests, all using the portable Galaxy XCover6 Pro.”

Prior to beginning this transition, Bill explained how Schlegel Villages was looking for intelligent devices that could fit in staff’s pockets, withstand being dropped or banged and enable efficient workflows and communications.

“Samsung’s rugged devices have been an excellent fit for our team members, providing the adaptability and connectivity we need. The Galaxy XCover6 Pro ensures that our staff has reliable tools to support them in delivering the best care possible.”

Founder and President of Attrix Inc., Anthony Mainville, recently shared how the adoption of the Samsung Galaxy Tab Active5 and Galaxy Tab Active4 Pro has led to more productive operations in the heavy-duty transportation sector. As a telematics solutions provider servicing heavy duty truck drivers, Attrix Inc. supports employees with workflow, navigation and fleet operation.

In sourcing the devices for AttriX clients, Mainville sought out secure tablets that can hold up in challenging environments. He also wanted tablets that allow its users to work comfortably and productively in rugged working conditions, such as in freezing temperatures, and that also provide powerful performance. The Galaxy Tab Active5 and Tab Active4 Pro deliver on these asks through features such as Glove Mode and No Battery Mode.

“These tablets can also work without the battery, as they have the ability to get power from the truck. This enables drivers to start driving immediately instead of waiting 10-15 minutes for their tablet to power up due to severe cold or heat” explains Mainville. “These are little things people don’t think about, but they add up and contribute to greater efficiency.”

Mainville founded AttriX Inc. knowing the transportation industry faces unique challenges every day. As someone who is passionate about providing solutions, his goal is to provide drivers and fleets across the country with systems that work.

“Within this specific industry, you need a product that works, is well supported and is secure,” Mainville says. “That is what the Samsung ecosystem offers.”

Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, public servants rarely clocked in from home. But when the new era of remote work began, government employees were ushered into unfamiliar territory, having to convert their homes into offices, while simultaneously keeping official public services running smoothly.

Now, as the pandemic decelerates, it’s become clear that what was once considered a temporary shift to remote work will continue to exist in some form indefinitely. The new challenge government offices face is maintaining the work-from-home momentum with adaptable technologies that can facilitate a new, flexible work model: a work week split between home and office. Fortunately, the Samsung Galaxy device line-up has been built for government workers’ needs for flexibility, productivity and mobility as they gear up for the next chapter of hybrid work.

360° productivity with the expanded Galaxy ecosystem

To ease the transition to hybrid work, the new office space must be equipped with an array of mobile technologies to support productivity. Take a virtual conference call as an example. The right technology can enable workers to dial in seamlessly, multi-task, and stay connected with co-workers over more than one channel, all while participating in the call. With the Samsung Galaxy ecosystem of devices, that vision of maximum productivity is effectively brought to life.

At the center of the ecosystem is the Galaxy Book Pro 360, which combines the power of a PC with the mobility of a smartphone for workers moving back-and-forth between the home and the office. When connecting the Galaxy Book Pro 360 to other devices within the Galaxy ecosystem, there’s virtually no task the government worker can’t manage.

Thanks to the easy Bluetooth connection, workers no longer have to scramble for headphones when they’re about to join a call. With the cord-free Galaxy Buds Pro, they are immediately connected from the second they open the case and are ready to deliver important updates. Powerful voice pick-up means they never have to worry about their ideas not coming through clearly.

With the integrated second screen feature, workers can also expand their desktop to a second screen to get the most out of their time. While presenting a plan on one screen, workers can simultaneously take notes in tandem on a Galaxy Tab S7+ with the accompanying S Pen. Once turned into digital text, their Samsung Notes are accessible across all their Galaxy devices. If another team member is presenting, workers can stay tuned into the presentation while keeping on top of urgent messages with Link to Windows integration on the Galaxy A71 and Galaxy Book Pro, allowing them to respond to smartphone notifications right on the laptop screen.

Access to a desktop-like experience on the go with Samsung DeX

When workers are on the road, on site, or just away from their home and office set-ups, tasks come up that just can’t wait for their return. The Samsung Galaxy device lineup is equipped with cutting edge productivity features that enable workers to stay productive from just about anywhere through their smartphone or tablet.

With Samsung DeX[1] software, workers can activate a full desktop-like experience through a smaller, handheld device. Built into the Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G smartphone and the Galaxy Tab S7+ tablet, the technology increases workers’ ability to get work done in a variety of environments.

With a simple connection to an external monitor, mouse and keyboard, or cast wirelessly to a Smart TV or Smart Monitor, government workers can activate DeX mode to answer email or more seamlessly work from multiple apps. With DeX, they can open multiple windows, drag and drop files and right click for more functions, just as they would on their PC.

Current circumstances have presented governments with a unique opportunity to be bellwethers of technological change. By investing in mobile-first tools that enable the flexibility required by their workers beyond the pandemic, governments who seize this opportunity will be recognized for setting a new standard in multi-tasking and productivity.

Originally appeared in the Spring-Summer 2021 edition of Le Point en Santé in partnership with Tous Ensemble.

When the COVID-19 pandemic hit last year, health care management consultant Myriam Denault-Bois had been pondering a career change. But in late March, as coronavirus infections surged, she read an article that inspired a newfound purpose while her work was on hold.

In the article, an ICU physician recounted the medical version of solitary confinement, an experience that COVID-19 patients face as hospitals banned visitors. The doctor’s words had a profound impact on Denault-Bois, who set out to help sick patients in Quebec connect with their families. Through an initial partnership with a telecommunication company and then with Samsung Canada, she, a physician and a team of medical students, implemented a tablet initiative at dozens of hospitals, retirement centres and long-term care homes across the province. Here, Denault-Bois explains how the undertaking known as “Tous Ensemble” came to fruition.

When the pandemic began, what technology challenges did hospitals face?

Sometimes, simply not having enough tools to connect patients with their families. Even when hospitals did have tablets, they often just sat on a desk. Health-care workers didn’t have the time, manpower or knowledge to implement a program.

How did you get the program off the ground?

I asked for tablet and smartphone donations from family and friends on social media. Pretty quickly I had 20 devices. Together with Dr. Tamara Mijovic of McGill University Health Centre and Antoine Denis, a McGillmedical school student, we set up the devices with communication apps. We also created a digital instruction manual for the tablet and installed an app to allow for remote control. After a couple days, we supplied this first batch of donated devices to a hospital in Montreal.

The project picked up steam under the leadership of an ICU social worker. We managed to secure an initial partnership with a telecom company to expand across the province. After two months, we were in more than a dozen hospitals and about 100 long-term care homes and residences.

But we were in need of more and better tablets. Plus, we couldn’t keep volunteering for endless hours. When a few organizations reached out to offer funding, we looked for a new tech partner. That’s when we found Samsung.

How did Samsung enhance the program?

The Galaxy Tab A 8.4”, 8.0” and 10.1” tablets are easier to use than our previous devices, come with more recent operating systems and more powerful processing speeds. They have long-lasting batteries and work well on hospital WiFi and with mobility packages. Not only that, but Samsung worked with us to get the tools we needed at an affordable price point. Since July 2020, we have secured hundreds of tablets quickly at a great discount. It has given us the power to expand the program as the pandemic evolves. Samsung is our best industry partner, making incredible efforts to always support us as best as they can.

What are the most memorable moments of connection with Tous Ensemble?

One woman in an intensive care unit was proposed to not once, but twice. She said “yes” the first time in the ICU, but after recovering somewhat and deteriorating again, she sadly forgot about the proposal. Hospital staff encouraged the man to propose again using one of the Tous Ensemble tablets and she said yes. We hear many stories and some of them stand out like this one, but most of them we will never hear about. We do know that thousands of video calls were made on the tablets, bringing so many Quebec families together through these difficult times. Some happy, and some deeply sad. We cannot, however, begin to understand how much each one of those calls meant to patients and their loved ones, and that is what has been keeping us working long hours for the past year.

What do you want people to learn from Tous Ensemble?

The pandemic has really shone a light on societal inequalities and the importance of technology. I hope more people, including corporations and governments, take inspiration from initiatives such as Tous Ensemble and from the generosity of Samsung, to make lasting change not only in health care, but all spheres of society.

APPS Transport Group is known for its exceptional customer service, boasting a workforce of loyal employees and drivers going the extra mile for their customers. APPS services Fortune 500 companies across North America, including some of the biggest names in retail, food service and construction product distribution.

Being an award-winning carrier is nothing new for APPS Transport Group, having been named by Profit Magazine’s Top 100 Fastest Growing Companies in Canada for three consecutive years, as well as winning “Canadian Shipper Choice Award Winning Carrier” for the past three years.

APPS Transport Group runs a well-maintained fleet across Canada and has established a very high Safety Rating with full recognition of its Commercial Vehicle Operator’s Registration (CVOR) statistics by the Ministry of Transportation, and is an active participant in the Safety Groups Program with WSIB (Workplace Safety and Insurance Board).

As a company committed to providing top notch customer service, APPS Transport Group was looking for a way to facilitate and expand better communications within its fleet, to help increase logistical efficiency. APPS needed a high-performance technology solution to keep up with the rugged demands of life on the road. The Samsung Galaxy Tab Active2 provided the right solution as a tech tool that helps drivers service their accounts, while allowing APPS to better manage its fleet, increase shipment tracking visibility for customers, and offer real-time updates for every stakeholder.

The transportation industry is highly competitive and requires extensive use of new technologies to maintain a competitive advantage. APPS Transport Group required cutting-edge technology equipment in order to manage its fleet effectively and efficiently. It also required durable, easy-to-use tech tools that would help drivers perform to the high standards of APPS’s customers and help give the company that competitive customer service edge.

Providing shipment visibility for customers in real or near real time was another major challenge. Today, customers increasingly demand a Digital Trucking Format when it comes to their transportation needs. Not only do they require shipment visibility, they want to be able to track items as they move and stay up-to-date on delivery times. APPS Transport Group wanted to increase its ROI based on efficiency gains and better visibility in order to help their customers grow their businesses.

Samsung Solution:

Samsung helped fulfill the company’s technology strategy by working with APPS Transport Group to ensure a solution that was both effective and user-friendly. Each driver was outfitted with a Samsung Galaxy Tab Active2 device, which helped APPS adapt and evolve its solutions, while focusing on continually improving the customer experience. Given its MIL-STD-810G certification, which awards its ability to survive drops, shocks, vibrations and extreme temperature changes, the Samsung Galaxy Tab Active2 provided a ruggedized option for APPS that optimized pickup and delivery, as well as providing live updates to its customers on their shipments.

APPS was proud to meet and exceed its customer needs by partnering with Samsung to deliver reliable solutions company-wide. It chose Samsung because the Galaxy Tab Active2 offered the best product for the job and provided the highest ROI. A measurement of success was the partnership between the solutions provider and customer, with the easy-to-implement solutions from Samsung optimizing efficiencies for APPS. While APPS considered other devices, Samsung was the clear winner, as its Galaxy Tab Active2 offered a durable, easy-to-use and cost-friendly solution. In addition, the Galaxy Tab Active2 offered premium security with Samsung Knox, which helps protect consumer data.

“APPS Transport went through an exhaustive review process prior to selecting Samsung as its mobile technology provider – the technology not only had to be robust but also driver and customer friendly at an affordable price,” stated Robert McDonald, President and CEO of APPS Transport Group. “The solution from Samsung checked all the boxes for us and we are confident based on consumer feedback that we’ve made the right choice when selecting the best partner for us.”

The Results:

Upon implementing these rugged, durable tablets, APPS Transport Group saw improved service to its customers and experienced significant efficiency gains. Specifically, long-time customers have commented on the improved and detailed delivery service, highlighting it must be a result of the new mobile devices from Samsung.

Since the company began using the new mobile solution, it has increased customer inquiry response times and given customers an improved ability to track the progress of their shipments across the entire APPS network. This effective tech solution from Samsung exceeded APPS’ objectives and allowed the organization to grow without having to add significant staff to accommodate the growth. Samsung helped make APPS’ business more successful by increasing its competitive edge and improving customer service with a leading technology solution.

APPS Transport Group has received excellent feedback on the program from both customers and employees, and is excited to set itself above the competition by using industry-leading tech solutions. The retail industry has evolved dramatically over the past decade. With ever-changing shopping behaviours, the strong emergence of e-commerce and global competition, retailers are consistently challenged to bring shoppers into their brick-and- mortar stores—and keep them coming back.

One of the most powerful tools at retailer’s disposal for engaging both new and existing customers is window displays. While static signs and various other displays are used as standard, retailers who want to remain competitive must adopt and integrate the latest and most innovative solutions which include digital signage. Recognizing the need for quickly customizable, highly visible content, Samsung designed its state-of-the-art Semi-Outdoor Signage suite of products for retail. Intended to deliver the most visually appealing content in any environment, these digital screens surpass traditional signage and engage audiences in new and innovative ways.

Current state of digital display technology in retail

It’s commonly known that we live in an overly-stimulated world; therefore, the ability to dazzle customers within a narrow window of time is more critical than ever.

Lacking the dynamic motion necessary to at- tract the attention of consumers, static, printed billboards are on their way to becoming a tactic of the past. As big brands and small businesses opt for digital window signage, they’re ultimate- ly achieving their business goals of increased foot traffic and sales, improved shopper experience and holistic branding. However, many retailers face the challenge of finding appropriate digital display solutions—ones that offer high-visibility and possess easy-to-manage software that helps manage and deliver bright and crisp content, even under direct sunlight or bright indoor lights.

To overcome this obstacle, Samsung designed its Semi-Outdoor Signage series with store- front window displays in mind. This digital signage solution projects clear, bright images that inspire consumers to step into the store. With a modern configuration and slim design, the series is compatible with any store window. Embedded software enables operational efficiency so that retailers can manage their displays effortlessly.

Moreover, the Samsung Semi-Outdoor series is dual-sided which allows businesses to feature content both facing the street and the store interior using one display unit.

The benefits of Semi-Outdoor Signage for retailers

Beyond the ability to capture the attention of shoppers, the dual-sided Semi-Outdoor OMN-D series from Samsung offers a multitude of other benefits. With clean cable organization and easy-to-use software, as well as durable, energy-efficient display, Semi-Outdoor Signage allows retailers to build a customized window display that is reflective of their brand and in- store experience while at the same time enabling them to communicate meaningful and relevant content that resonates with their audiences.

With its flexible design and operational efficiency, the display is optimized for a wide range of retail businesses from quick-service restaurants to department stores and more. Retailers can maximize their storefront space through a variety of positioning options. Compared to conventional displays, Samsung Semi-Outdoor Signage offers a sleek, smart look that remains aesthetically pleasing to consumers. It also boasts polarized sunglass viewable display from any direction with 3,000 nit brightness outdoor facing and 1,000 nit brightness indoor facing, and a high contrast ratio of 5,000:1. The OMN-D series promotes customer engagement inside and outside the store and creates a memorable first impression, allowing retailers to stand out in a crowded marketplace.

Digital display considerations for retailers

Semi-Outdoor Signage is one way retailers can engage broader audiences and increase foot traffic with digital display. But, to help put together the best solution for their business needs, retailers must consider the following:

Define objectives: What will the screen be used for and how will success be measured?

Audit the site: Is the window in direct sunlight? If so, is it all day or simply part of the day? This will affect the brightness levels that a screen needs to support, and its ability to handle the heat-load and glare of the sun.

Determine the content plan: Is big and bold messaging a priority for your business, or is fine detail more important?

As the past decade has demonstrated, the world is going digital. Digital advertising formats are not only enticing customers, but offer an experience customers both appreciate and expect from brands they choose to interact with.

With Samsung Semi-Outdoor Signage, retailers can promote content with exceptional clarity in any storefront window. As the number one worldwide leader in digital signage for the 10th consecutive year, Samsung Electronics Canada is committed to transforming digital signage and providing Canadian retailers with innovative display solutions as a natural extension of their retail environment.

So, is digital display for retail worth the investment? All signs point to yes.

Introduction

Serving over a million customers per year, Fantasyland Hotel, located in Alberta’s West Edmonton Mall, is more than a place to stay – it’s a destination in itself. The two properties work in unison to offer customers a different and exciting experience with every visit. Fantasyland offers a range of themed rooms catering to a variety of guest interests and desired experiences. Connected directly to the mall, the unique hotel also provides customers adjacent shopping and attractions, including World Waterpark and Galaxyland, an indoor theme park. Fantasyland’s management strives to offer unique features to its guests and maintain a competitive industry advantage, including access to cutting-edge technology.

While the hotel explored implementing new technology, Samsung Canada identified an opportunity to elevate the guest experience. Offering leading LED display signage, Samsung worked closely with Fantasyland to provide guests a unique and memorable experience, unlike any other hotel in the area. Now, Samsung’s indoor video wall signage sets the tone for Fantasyland, combining superb picture quality and intuitive usability for more realistic and memorable content on display.

The Customer Need

Although it’s adjacent to a high-traffic mall, Fantasyland is close to multiple competitors in the Edmonton area. As a result, Fantasyland’s management team required a creative approach to pique the interest of potential guests and encourage them to select their hotel instead of competing properties. Management wanted to appeal to its increasingly tech-savvy guests who desire instant and convenient information at their fingertips.

Samsung Solution

“As a trusted leader in digital signage, we recognized Fantasyland’s desire for a tech-enhanced competitive edge. Acting as a shoulder to shoulder partner, we helped deliver a hospitality solution to modernize the property and provide a seamless, personalized experience for every guest.”
– Mary Peterson, Vice President, Sales & Marketing, Digital Display and Memory Business, Samsung Canada

Samsung offered 2.5mm pixel pitch IF025H Indoor Video Wall Signage as a hospitality solution to help modernize the property and provide a seamless, personalized experience for every guest. With its superb picture quality and advanced colour calibration, the display turned basic imagery curated by Fantasyland into lifelike streetscapes, colourful depictions of nature and epic visuals from some of its highly requested themed rooms.

The LED display technology makes for a visually appealing statement piece and an immediate entertainment experience for guests entering the property. It also doubles as a hotel information service, providing guests updates on events and other announcements relevant to the Fantasyland property and West Edmonton Mall.

Additionally, the display encompasses Samsung’s video processing technology with High Dynamic Range (HDR) picture refinement to add clarity and sophistication to featured content – all within a compact, easy-to-maintain design.

Samsung provided Fantasyland management the desired tech-enhanced competitive edge they wanted, acting as a “shoulder to shoulder partner” with the hotel. A trusted leader in digital signage, Samsung also managed the delivery and implementation of the technology through trusted vendors, alleviating any possible challenges for hotel staff.

The Results

“Samsung as a hospitality solution has helped modernize our property to provide a seamless and personalized experience for every guest. The moment you walk in the lobby, it’s “wow.” And it shows in the customer’s feedback, which we get quite a lot.”
With its jaw-dropping LED display, Samsung’s innovative technology provided the hotel lobby an immediate “wow” effect, offering guests a pleasurable wait throughout the check-in process. The installation also solved Fantasyland’s biggest challenge: remaining ahead of local competition with a standout attraction.

The installation helped reduce check-in times and provided guests timely information they would have otherwise sought from the front desk agent. Accordingly, the hotel was able to cut back substantially on the printed material it distributes in an effort to reduce its overall paper consumption and environmental footprint.

With more hotels turning to LED display for an enhanced guest experience, Samsung remains at the forefront of the industry with an innovative solution delivering state-of-the-art technology.
