Samsung Canada is proud to once again to be listed as one of Canada’s Top Employers for Young People by MediaCorp Canada, as announced in a special edition of the Globe and Mail. The 2023 recognition marks the ninth year in a row that Samsung was named as one of the best places in Canada for young people to start their careers.

Companies who made the list were evaluated on their ability to attract and retain young workers, mentorship and training programs, growth and development opportunities, and the percentage of young people in the organization.

Samsung is committed to providing young Canadians with the best opportunities to learn and grow their career. Reasons behind Samsung’s recognition include:

• Co-op and Summer Student Program, which connects the organization with students from a variety of different schools across Canada. Through this program, students get an opportunity to contribute their unique insights and innovative ideas on areas such as corporate citizenship and employer branding.
• Partnerships with post-secondary institutions, such as working with Vancouver Community College to create a Samsung Tech Institute Home Appliance certification course as well as collaborating with Centennial College to launch a mobile application development program.
• Samsung’s Scholarship Program, which aims to assist young adults in their education at a college or university level. Open to children of employees, every year up to three (3) students are awarded a scholarship of CAD $2,500 each. in addition, all scholarship applicants receive a Galaxy Book Laptop to support their academic pursuits.
• Samsung’s Solve for Tomorrow Contest that challenges young people to use STEM learning and Samsung technology to solve real-world problems that have a positive impact in their communities.

Samsung Electronics Canada has once again been recognized as one of Canada’s Top Employers for Young People in 2021. The annual editorial competition highlights employers who offer the nation’s best workplaces and programs for young people.

Samsung Canada has put in place a variety of initiatives that have earned the company recognition as a leader in attracting and retaining young talent. Highlights include:

• The Leaders of Tomorrow Employee Resource Group (ERG), whose focus is on supporting the development of Millennial employees and preparing them for roles in leadership. The ERG also supports the Samsung Canada annual wellness fair, and raises funds and awareness for Sick Kids through their annual candy-gram fundraiser.
• The Samsung Solve for Tomorrow Challenge, a national educational initiative for Canadian students to apply STEM-related knowledge to find creative solutions to solve challenges in their local communities. Samsung Canada has awarded over $45,000 in cash and technology grants to students across Canada.
• Partnerships with post-secondary institutions including Vancouver Community College to create a Samsung Tech Institute Home Appliance certification course and Centennial College to launch a Mobile Application Development program.
• Hosting a unique challenge that empowers Samsung Canada co-op students to provide solutions or new ideas on a variety of topics such as strategy and marketing. As part of the challenge, students present their proposals to the organization’s leadership team. Winning teams receive prizes, such as Samsung products, and may even see their ideas implemented.

Samsung Electronics Canada has once again been selected as one of Canada’s Top 100 Employers. The annual competition hosted by the Globe and Mail aims to determine which employers lead their industries in offering exceptional workplaces.

Employers are compared to other organizations in similar fields to determine which businesses offer the most progressive and forward-thinking programs for employees. Despite an unprecedented year, Samsung Canada impressed judges by proudly continuing to enhance the employee experience through a wide range of programs and incentives. This ongoing dedication to fostering a positive work environment earned Samsung Canada a spot on Canada’s Top 100 Employers list for the sixth year in a row.

Industry leading initiatives from Samsung Canada that stood out as part of the judging process include:

• Supporting the transition to a “new normal” working environment: Samsung Canada provided $250 “Samsung Dollars” to every employee for the purchase of technology needed to work from home, including monitors, earbuds, wireless chargers etc. Samsung Canada also encouraged employees to bring home office equipment, from computer equipment to office chairs, as a way to ensure all employees had the ability and access to effectively work from home and stay safe.

• Prioritizing employee health and wellness: In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Samsung Canada created a static content page for all things wellness within the U r Awesome online employee portal. The page, dedicated to each Samsung’s wellness pillars (mental wellness, physical wellness, financial wellness and social wellness) shares resources as well as tips and tricks to manage overall employee health and wellness within the new normal. Samsung Canada also created a ‘Wellness Activities’ page where ongoing ‘social wellness’ activities were posted to help keep employees engaged while working from home.

• A culture of putting people first: Samsung supports staff at all levels of employment with a commitment to their well-being, both inside and outside of the office. Through ongoing engagement surveys, Samsung maintains open, two-way dialogue with all team members. The open conversations enable the company to gauge, optimize and spur employee engagement and programming.

• Providing opportunities for personal and professional growth: Samsung Canada supports ongoing training and development in a variety of ways for employees, including offering over 10,000 online learning courses through the “Samsung U” online learning platform.

• Fostering an inclusive workplace environment: Samsung Canada provides an environment where all employees feel empowered to be who they are and bring their best selves to work each day by offering a variety of programs that drive home the importance of diversity and inclusivity. Various Employee Resource Groups drive initiatives to support their members and also host events that enable an inclusive workplace.

Recently it was announced that Samsung ranked 5th place in the Best Global Brands 2020 list by Interbrand, a global brand consulting company. Despite the challenging business environment brought on by COVID-19, Samsung saw a 2 per cent rise in brand value from USD 61.1 billion in 2019 to USD 62.3 billion this year.

Samsung has been recording consistent growth in terms of brand value since starting in 43^rd place in 2000 when Interbrand began publishing the Best Global Brands. Since entering the top ten with a rank of number nine in 2012, Samsung has continued its steady climb, reaching 6^th place in 2017 and 5^th place in 2020.

According to Interbrand, major factors that played a critical role in the growth of Samsung include:

• Rapid response to COVID-19 through global activities for corporate social responsibility (CSR) and integrated global campaign
• Company-wide activities dedicated to sustainable development
• Continuous launch of innovative products including Galaxy Fold, The Terrace and BESPOKE refrigerator
• Consistent investment to lead the development of advanced technologies, such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), 5G and Internet of Things (IoT)

“We started at number 43 with a brand value of USD 5.2 billion in 2000.
