Bedtime Guidance 

A single night of restful sleep offers immediate health benefits, encouraging more proactive behavior changes and leading to a healthier tomorrow. This starts with a regular and optimal bedtime.

• We constantly seek to advance our sleep-related tools, which include sleep pattern analysis, sleep coaching, and optimizing sleep environments. They also include the feature that detects signs of sleep apnea[7] — a sleep disorder  — and help you take proactive steps.
• Now, we are providing additional tools for better sleep by suggesting an optimal bedtime based on your lifestyle and sleep patterns while sending reminders to help you stick to it.
• By analyzing your past three days’ sleep patterns, the feature evaluates your need for sleep pressure and your circadian rhythm to calculate a bedtime that maximizes alertness the next day.
• This feature is particularly helpful for those trying to optimize their sleep after periods of irregular bedtimes. For example, if you go to bed later than planned over several days, or have inconsistent sleep schedules between weekdays and weekends, the bedtime guidance will consider these factors to help you reach your sleep goals.

Vascular Load     

Sleep is a window into overall health, as it impacts holistic well-being. Galaxy Watch uses this opportunity to measure vascular load — the amount of stress on your vascular system while sleeping.

• The vascular system carries blood throughout the body to deliver oxygen and nutrients and remove waste, making it a strong indicator to determine good heart health.
• Simply wear your Watch while sleeping, and it will measure your vascular load, providing insights into the stress on your vascular system.
• Additionally, since all health factors are interconnected, the feature also provides insights into lifestyle factors such as sleep, exercise, and stress to help you maintain a healthier lifestyle and develop positive habits.

Running Coach 

While sleep is a precious time to cultivate and care for your health, managing your health during active moments is equally important. Running is one of the most basic and universally available fitness activities, and Samsung has long sought to support runners, offering features to help everyone stay active and achieve their fitness goals.

• Many runners face injuries due to over-pacing or are not optimally pushing themselves. Running Coach is designed to help runners safely complete marathons through optimized-intensity and injury-preventive training, making it ideal for beginners.
• Our new Running Coach feature delivers motivation and real-time guidance, creating a unique training program based on your fitness level to help you achieve your goals.
• Just wear your watch and run for 12 minutes; it will analyze your performance and running level from 1-10. You’ll receive a detailed training plan to help you complete a 5K, 10K, half marathon, or full marathon based on your level. Complete your training session, and you’ll level up and unlock your next running challenge.

Antioxidant Index 

When taking a holistic approach to health, we naturally focus on aging and inspiring healthy aging.

However, behavioral factors, such as drinking alcohol, smoking, UV exposure, stress and lack of sleep, can accelerate aging by increasing free radicals in the body. These free radicals damage cells and accelerate aging. Antioxidants, nutrients found in many healthy foods, are molecules that neutralize these free radicals, helping prevent chronic illnesses and promote healthy aging.

• Use Galaxy Watch to measure carotenoids, which are antioxidants found in green and orange vegetables and fruits, stored in your skin.
• Galaxy Watch employs an industry-first feature to measure carotenoids in just five seconds via its advanced, light-activated BioActive sensor.
• These insights reflect behavioral changes. For example, drinking carrot juice can show changes in the index, providing motivation to adopt healthier habits.

This growth has been driven by the feature securing CE (Conformité Européenne, European Conformity) marking for the European Economic Area (EEA). Additionally, the feature has recently been approved by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) in Australia and Health Sciences Authority (HSA) in Singapore.

The milestone follows Samsung’s groundbreaking United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) De Novo authorization. Moreover, the Sleep Apnea feature has also received regulatory approval from Korea’s Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS), Brazil’s Health Regulatory Agency (ANVISA) and Health Canada, Canada’s regulatory authority.

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. and the University of Michigan Exercise & Sport Science Initiative (ESSI) have launched a research partnership to explore smartwatch technology to help runners manage their physical activity by providing more reliable and accurate data.

The Michigan Performance Research Laboratory (MiPR) — ESSI’s core research lab — will oversee an eight-month study that uses the Galaxy Watch series to estimate the VO₂ max and sweat loss of participants as they run. The study will compare reference data[1] against smartwatch data from both indoor (treadmill) and outdoor running trials of different distances, from 2.5km to 20km.

Runners at all levels grapple with sweat loss, dehydration, and heat management, particularly during the summer months. Samsung and the University of Michigan hope the study’s findings will further enhance smartwatch technology, giving runners more accurate measurements of their exercise metrics .

Samsung partnered with the MiPR lab for this study given its established relationships within the wearable tech industry and running community, as well as the unique skill sets of its researchers. Co-PIs Adam Lepley, associate director – research; Alexandra DeJong Lempke, associate director – academics; and Ken Kozloff, co-director of ESSI, bring expertise in sports medicine, running-related injury, and performance, wearable tech, and applied/translational research. The ESSI MiPR lab has collaborated with the University of Michigan Athletic Department and multiple professional sports organizations to derive meaningful insights from wearable technology that can be applied to sports and exercise.

For runners, the new Personalized Heart Rate Zone feature[3] provides five optimal running intensity levels based on an individual’s metrics, empowering them to set goals based on their own ability. Additionally, Track Run helps runners record their runs while on a running track. During a run, Galaxy Watch provides in-depth analysis including asymmetry, regularity, and ground contact time to help provide insights into their running performance. .

Last year, I expanded my responsibilities as head of Samsung’s MX Business, to lead our Corporate Design Center. My career as an engineer taught me that the most sublime designs are intertwined with technological innovation. This new responsibility allows me to delve deeper into how the synergy of design, engineering, and R&D can yield transformative experiences. My name is Renée and I recently had the opportunity to put my Samsung Galaxy Watch5 and the Samsung Health app to the ultimate test at a pop-up Zumba class at Goodlife Fitness.

I’ve been using my Galaxy Watch Active2 for a few years now and although it’s been a very handy accessory for my day-to-day life (i.e., tracking my heart rate[1], reminding me to stand up, seamlessly sending through my phone notifications, etc.), I was impressed with all the new features on the latest Samsung Galaxy Watch5.

Apart from keeping me on track with my everyday needs like notifying me about upcoming events, the weather and the influx of emails, texts and social media DMs, the Galaxy Watch5 now features an array of intuitive tools to help smartly track my overall wellness.

​​With my Galaxy Watch5 and the Samsung Health App[2] on my Galaxy Z Flip4, I’m able to see detailed insights related to my sleep[3], blood pressure[4] and ECG[5] levels and more. One of my favourite features is the new Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA) sensor which measures your body composition in terms of fat and skeletal muscle mass[6] – this is a super helpful way to keep an eye on progress related to your overall fitness goals. It’s also been so wonderful to be able to track other aspects of my health like my menstrual cycle[7] and the number of glasses of water I drink each day. The Galaxy Watch5 may be small but it’s no doubt a mighty companion to have on the go.

But back to the event: I was able to enter Goodlife Fitness with such ease, thanks to the Samsung Wallet app on my Galaxy Watch5. Besides my credit cards, I’m also able to store important membership cards including Goodlife Fitness. And because I can seamlessly access it on my watch, I didn’t need to fish out my wallet or from the bottom of my tote bag to beep myself in.

On every Galaxy Watch5 there is Auto Workout Tracking, which features up to 90 types of exercises.  Aside from popular activities like walking, running and swimming (yes, you can even use it in water[8]!), the Galaxy Watch5 also can track specific (and sometimes more complex activities) like Pilates, golfing and rock climbing – you name it!

Since I was attending a Zumba class (a personal favourite activity of mine), I swiped to the Dancing workout prior to the warm-up to track the total duration, calories burned and my heart rate[9] post-workout, which can easily be reviewed in real time on my Galaxy Watch5.

It was quite the workout to say the least! Even though it was a shorter class than my usual Zumba classes, my heart rate jumped quite a bit, which I was easily able to check with a simple swipe to the Heart Rate[10] feature on the watch. This told me I was working hard and making strides towards improving my overall cardio-fitness.

If you’re looking to reach new wellness goals, or just stay on top of your day-to-day it really is so nice to have the Galaxy Watch5 every step of the way. I don’t know what I’d do without it!
