The experiences will take place at MURAL Festival in Montreal starting June 9, 2023, and the Samsung Experience Store in the CF Toronto Eaton Centre on June 16, 2023. Whether interacting with a fan, tackling a photo shoot, or creating delicious-looking food content, Fred, Isabelle, and Mr. KOA are all utilizing the power of Samsung products and SmartThings to make these experiences more efficient and enriching. We recently caught up with the stars of the videos to learn more about the meaningful connections they experienced with others through Samsung technology.

In the latest spot, up and coming basketball star and Team Canada athlete, Deniya Prawl, plays video games on her Neo QLED TV online with another gamer – not knowing that on the other end of the line is the star athlete Fred VanVleet, who surprises her with a call on her Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4. We sat down with Deniya, Isabelle and Mr. KOA to learn more about their experiences with Samsung’s meaningful connections campaign, and how they themselves continue to leverage connectivity in their everyday lives.

What role does Samsung technology play in helping you perfect your craft?

Mr. KOA: The Samsung Galaxy lineup’s ease of use and customization features not only help me get all my work done efficiently, they make things look the way I want to, and make my experiences enjoyable.

Isabelle Cheng: My phone is central to my job as a food-focused content creator! I love my Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra.

Deniya Prawl: My Samsung TV helps me watch all of my favourite basketball games, learning from other amazing players.

How does technology help you balance your day-to-day life?

Mr. KOA: I live a very fast-paced and extremely unpredictable lifestyle. I absolutely rely on technology to keep me organized, to help edit and design work, as well as visual capabilities to present to clients.

Isabelle Cheng: To be honest, I would be completely lost without technology. I use my Samsung Galaxy Watch Active to track my sleep, workouts, and even make sure I get enough water – especially helpful when I’m busy. For work, I always tell people I live and die by my calendar. Being able to have all my appointments and other info at my fingertips on my phone is critical.

Deniya Prawl: Because I’m a basketball player, it’s so important for me to study the game. Watching games or footage from practice using technology helps improve my IQ and learn different moves.

Can you tell us about your experience building connections in your vignette?

Mr. KOA: Being surprised by my cousin on my Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 was definitely an unexpected but welcome surprise – especially when we met in person! I recently made the decision to pick up my entire life and move from Toronto to LA at the start of this year. The transition has been quite challenging, and I hadn’t seen friends or family for almost a year. Being able to connect so easily and quickly was incredible.

Isabelle Cheng: I was able to connect with a good friend of mine that moved to Vancouver. When someone who is important to you moves across the country it can be difficult. I was so shocked when she surprised me on video chat as I was expecting someone else. It was easy to connect the Galaxy Z Flip4 to Samsung The Frame TV so I could chat comfortably on such a large screen. Even better was when she ended up surprising me in person!

Deniya Prawl: It was a great experience to connect with Fred live using my Galaxy Z Flip4! I’ve watched him play for so many years and I’m a huge fan – I was so surprised and grateful for the experience.

Provide an example of a meaningful connection that technology has enabled for you.

Mr. KOA: I recently launched a dating card game called THE FIRST DATE GAME. Thanks to technology, the game has been able to reach thousands of people – all from something I created at home.

Isabelle Cheng: Over the past two years, technology was essential to help me stay connected to my friends and loved ones who I wasn’t able to see. Having technology makes those times feel a lot less lonely until you’re able to hug in-person again.

Deniya Prawl: A lot of my family lives in Jamaica, and they all use Samsung devices, which helps us communicate with each other despite the distance.

Samsung Electronics Canada recently hosted an event bringing Toronto’s Women in Tech (and also those aspiring to be) under one roof. They cleverly collab-ed with the most iconic professional women’s club and career portal, Monday Girl. The result: an evening of technological inspiration and excellence, camaraderie, cocktails and a lot of fun.

We know because we were there. Although, our presence had nothing to do with our tech genius, which ranges from nil to a bare minimum. We were there for three main reasons.

One, we are Samsung fans. This article is partially typed on a Samsung Galaxy S22 (swear by God). Two, we were getting to experience the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 and Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 firsthand. And three, we really wanted to know what Tiffeny Chung, Head of Marketing, Mobile eXperience at Samsung Electronics Canada, had to say about women in leadership roles in the industry.

And we are happy to fill you in on the crazy awesome events of the evening—

The First Impression

Honestly, we were expecting the evening to be fab and classy, purely based on its venue, aka Harriet’s Rooftop Bar. And it certainly did not disappoint— classy ambience, incredible city views, snacks and beverages flowing. But a few minutes in, we realized that the evening is going to be just as intellectual as it is fun. Thanks to the many impressive and interesting women present at the event. It wasn’t hard to establish early on that the event is going to be everything it promised to be.

The Tech (but not quite) Talk

“It (the tech industry) is constantly evolving. It’s constantly advancing. It’s making the world a better place because it advances so rapidly. To me, that is so exciting and interesting.” This statement by Chung broke our first misconception about the talk. We incorrectly assumed the discussion to be all about the Galaxy Z Series features. It wasn’t.

Sure, the Galaxy Z series features did make an appearance here and there. Tiffeny would, after all, pick examples from her work life. But it was primarily an inspiring convo for the aspiring attendees. And most importantly, it had a sense of revolution to it. The revolution that changes the narrative of Women in Tech by supporting each other to reach great heights.

“As a leader, I always encourage people to think about what’s next, to see themselves in my role. I’m not going to be there forever. Aspire to that. Let’s get you there. I am okay knowing that you will succeed me,” adds Tiffeny.

The Pretty-Meet-Productive Phones

Samsung is known to be a leader in technology and innovation in Canada and around the world. And it is gems like the Galaxy Z Fold4 and Galaxy Z Flip4 devices that continue to showcase the electronic giant’s innovative stride.

When we first saw the phones, our immediate reaction was, “Ooouuu! These are so chic and sleek.” And we stand by that reaction. The foldable devices are pretty good-looking and sleek enough to fit our skin-fit pants and jacket pockets.

But the Galaxy Z Fold4 and Galaxy Z Flip4 are designed with productivity at their core to aid our hybrid work models. They not only put tablet-sized productivity in your pockets but also make multitasking on your smartphone a piece of cake, with the Galaxy Z Fold4 capable of launching three apps ride-by-side across its unfolded main screen.

We are, in particular, eyeing the Galaxy Z Flip4. It’s super smart, it’s super sleek, it’s super nostalgic AND it’s a super tool for content capturing. Tiffeny highlighted the versatile and hands-free FlexCam of the Galaxy Z Flip4 during her talk, which was also on display at the event’s photo booth to let attendees capture memories to take home with them.

The Feeling After

As we left Harriet’s Rooftop Bar we felt many things at once. Proud that us women are killing it in every field. Elated that women in leadership roles are trailblazing a women-support-women culture. And thrilled that Galaxy Z Flip4 and Galaxy Z Fold4 are now on our holiday shopping list!

With back-to-school in full swing, Samsung Canada launched a new ambassador program for high school and post-secondary students of Samsung Canada employees^[1]. The Samsung Student Technology Ambassador program gifts students who are children of Samsung Canada employees, and who have been selected as ambassadors under the program, with Samsung Connectivity Prize Packs consisting of the full ecosystem of Mobile eXperience (MX) and Consumer Electronics (CE) products, personalized product training, and the opportunity to showcase how they’re using the technology to support their learning objectives.

As Samsung Ambassadors, these students will document all the ways they’re using Samsung technology from their prize packs, which includes a Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4, Galaxy Book2 Pro, Galaxy Buds2 Pro, Galaxy Watch5, The Freestyle and Smart Monitor M8, during a typical school day. Whether it’s taking notes during class on their laptop, connecting their smartphone to their earbuds to listen to a presentation over lunch, or receiving reminders on their watch for assignment due dates, students will be able to harness the full power of their connected MX and CE products.

When applying to the Samsung Student Technology Ambassador program, students were asked to share how they think Samsung technology will help advance their academic pursuits this school year.

Q: Tell us about the Galaxy Z Fold4 and Galaxy Z Flip4. What makes them ideal productivity devices?

PE: When we designed the latest foldables, we wanted to make sure they delivered maximum value on several fronts, both personal and professional. The marquee feature of the Galaxy Z Fold4 is its foldable screen that stands on its own so users can video conference hands free or jot down notes with the optional S Pen^[1]. When unfolded, users benefit from a 7.6-inch expansive screen, letting them view a spreadsheet, contract, or creative mock-up in greater detail. Q: How do the latest Galaxy foldables help employees complete tasks and work with apps that are traditionally accessed on a laptop?

PE: The latest Galaxy foldables are optimized to support Microsoft Office, making it easier to create and edit documents on the go without having to power up a laptop. Our optimized Office experience means that popular Office apps, like Word, Excel and PowerPoint, can be used the same way they would be used on a laptop. That means everyone has access to important files, regardless of their location. We know that work is no longer confined to a desk, so Microsoft integration ensures always-on access to OneDrive and Teams, whether you’re in the office, working from home or between appointments.

If professionals do find themselves in a situation where a laptop is needed, we came up with a solution just for that. Samsung DeX on the Galaxy Z Fold4 lets them connect their device wirelessly to a monitor or a TV, pair a keyboard and mouse, and get to work in an intuitive PC-like environment. Whether they’re finalizing a sales contract or presenting a pitch to clients, the Galaxy Z Fold4 and DeX provides professionals with the convenience and familiarity of a desktop-like experience.

Q: What would you tell employers who are uncomfortable with so much work being conducted from a smartphone?

PE: The Galaxy Z Flip4 and Galaxy Z Fold4 are both equipped with built-in defense grade security that helps protect both business and personal data stored on the device from the chip up. This feature is called Knox Security, and when combined with Knox Vault, which protects passwords and biometrics information, it helps to ensure that sensitive data stays secure.

The durability of devices is another important consideration for businesses with employees working remotely. Both the Galaxy Z Fold4 and Galaxy Z Flip4 have built in water and scratch resistance^[3], so regardless of what someone’s workday might look like, their devices can be used with confidence. Both devices also come with an all-day battery and super-fast charging^[4], so more time can be spent taking care of important business matters versus trying to preserve the device’s battery life.

Q: Nowadays, with everything being remote, why is it important for professionals to carry devices that work together?

PE: When your devices work together, you work smarter.
