Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. today announced that approximately 80 models in its 2025 TV, monitor and soundbar lineups have received Product Carbon Reduction1 and Product Carbon Footprint2 certifications from TÜV Rheinland, a globally recognized certification organization based in Germany. This marks the fifth consecutive year that the premium lineups, Neo QLED 8K and Neo QLED, have received certifications, reinforcing the company’s continued efforts in carbon reduction.

“Samsung Electronics is committed to driving technological innovation for a sustainable future,” said Taeyong Son, Executive Vice President of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics.

Following last year’s certification of 60 models across the Neo QLED, OLED and Lifestyle TV categories, Samsung has further increased its number of certified products in 2025 to include QLED TVs. In addition, the company is also working towards obtaining certification for its Color E-Paper lineup later this year.

The certifications from TÜV Rheinland are awarded following a rigorous evaluation of a product’s entire lifecycle — including manufacturing, transportation, usage and disposal — based on internationally recognized standards. By assessing and verifying carbon emissions at each stage, these certifications highlight Samsung’s efforts to reduce environmental impact across its product lineup.

In particular, the Product Carbon Reduction certification is granted to products that have already received a Product Carbon Footprint certification and further demonstrate a measurable reduction in carbon emissions compared to their predecessors.

Samsung’s efforts to reduce its products’ carbon footprint date back to 2021, when the Neo QLED became the first 4K and higher-resolution TV to earn the Reducing CO2 certification from Carbon Trust. Since then, Samsung has continually expanded its portfolio of certified products, including QLED, Crystal UHD, Lifestyle TVs, OLED TVs and a wide range of monitors and digital signage products.

Eight product series in the 2024 lineup are recognized for reduced carbon footprint compared to previous year’s models, expanding the company’s certified portfolio

Samsung aims to achieve “Product Carbon Footprint” and “Product Carbon Reduction” certifications for over 60 models in 2024

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. announced that eight product series[1] in its 2024 Neo QLED 4K and 8K, OLED, and The Frame lineups have received the “Product Carbon Reduction” certification from TÜV Rheinland, the international independent third-party testing, inspection, and certification organization. The certification demonstrates the carbon footprint reduction ratio of these products compared to the previous year’s model, serving as a testament to the company’s efforts to reduce carbon emissions year-over-year.

“As the world’s leading TV manufacturer, it is our responsibility to create products that both redefine TV capabilities while advancing sustainability efforts,” said Yongjae Kim, Executive Vice President of the Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics.

“Congratulations to Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. The issuance of Product Carbon Reduction certification demonstrates Samsung’s commitment to environmental sustainability and its actual implementation efforts to reduce carbon emissions and combat climate change,” said Frank Holzmann, Global Vice President of TÜV Rheinland Business Field Electrical, “This recognition will undoubtedly enhance the brand’s reputation and customer trust, further solidifying its position as a leading player in the global electronics market.”

TÜV Rheinland evaluated greenhouse gas emissions for Samsung’s TV products throughout their life cycle- “from Cradle to Grave” – ranging from manufacturing, transportation, use to disposal, in accordance with the internationally recognized standards such as ISO 14067 and ISO 14064-4 as well as TÜV Rheinland’s self-developed standard 2 PfG Q2880/09.23. It verifies and certifies that all of eight TV product series meet the carbon reduction standard requirement set by TÜV Rheinland. The newly certified products include two Neo QLED 8K series, three Neo QLED 4K series, two OLED series and one series of The Frame.

In addition to product certification, Samsung’s Visual Display Business obtained the display and consumer electronics industry’s first “Product Carbon Footprint Calculation Method” certification from TÜV Rheinland. This certification measures and manages greenhouse gas emissions throughout the complete life cycle of a product, collecting and analyzing data in accordance with management regulations and stipulated execution manuals to calculate greenhouse gas emissions and ensure transparent and reproducible results.

As Samsung continues its work to reduce the environmental impact of its products, it aims to achieve TÜV Rheinland’s “Product Carbon Footprint” and “Product Carbon Reduction” certifications for over 60 models in 2024, including newly introduced soundbars. With these eight product series’ carbon reduction result and analysis report, Samsung has more confidence and clear direction in the development and design of the next generation decarbonized TV product.

This recognition builds on previous acknowledgements of Samsung’s sustainability efforts. It obtained its first “Reducing CO2” certification from the Carbon Trust in 2021 for Neo QLED 4K and higher resolution TVs. In 2022, 11 TV models and five monitor and signage products achieved the ‘Reducing CO2’ certification, and most recently, 24 models across Samsung’s 2023 lineup were certified by the Carbon Trust and TÜV Rheinland.

As Samsung’s state-of-the-art display, MICRO LED offers amazing picture quality thanks to 25 million micrometer-sized LEDs that individually produce light and colour, creating an incredibly immersive experience through impressive depth, vibrant colours and a heightened level of clarity and contrast. At CES 2022, Samsung will unveil the MICRO LED in three different sizes – 110”, 101”, and 89”.

In addition to the hardware innovations, the 2022 MICRO LED supports 20-bit greyscale depth. This means MICRO LED models can express every detail in a scene, offering the finest control with over 1 million steps of brightness and colour levels, delivering a true HDR experience. Together with immersive design made possible by its 99.99% screen-to-body ratio, MICRO LED delivers revolutionary performance.

Finally, MICRO LED comes packed with enhanced usability and customization features.

Art Mode allows consumers to turn any room into an art gallery as they can select and display their favourite artwork or digital photography. The 2022 MICRO LED also comes with two exclusive media pieces from noted artist and designer Refik Anadol.

Multi View lets users view content from four different sources simultaneously – from any or all of the four HDMI ports – in pristine 4K resolution at up to 120fps.

Dolby Atmos delivers a premier immersive audio experience with top, side and bottom channel speakers for breathtaking, multi-dimensional sound.

Evolution of Neo QLED with Neo Quantum Processor and Dynamic Sound Experience

Thanks to the Neo Quantum Processor and the advancements in picture technology and sound it delivers, 2022 Neo QLED will provide some of the most pristine images and immersive soundscapes possible. In fact, this year’s Neo Quantum Processor introduces advanced contrast mapping with BLU (back-light unit), increasing the brightness level from 12 to 14-bit gradation for greater control of the light source – the Quantum Mini LEDs. This allows the TV to control its lighting across 16,384 steps, quadrupled from the previous 4,096 steps.

The new Shape Adaptive Light technology leverages the Neo Quantum Processor to analyze lines, shapes and surfaces to control the shape of light from the Quantum Mini LEDs, enhancing the brightness and accuracy of all shapes on the screen. The result is outstanding image quality that puts full HDR content on display. Samsung’s 2022 Neo QLED also features Real Depth Enhancer, a multi-intelligence picture quality algorithm. This technological advancement creates a greater sense of realism by determining and processing an object on the screen against its background to create a sense of depth.

Additionally, Samsung’s 2022 Neo QLED features EyeComfort mode, which automatically adjusts the screen’s brightness and tone based on a built-in light sensor and sunset/sunrise information. As the ambient light changes, the screen will gradually reduce the amount of light and offer warmer tones, adjusting the blue light levels accordingly. This allows for a more comfortable viewing experience at night by reducing the blue light which may affect one’s sleep quality.

Neo QLED’s sound features are getting a major upgrade as well. Building on OTS (Object Tracking Sound), which directs the sound to move across the room along with the object on-screen, the 2022 products will feature OTS Pro, which incorporates powerful up-firing speakers to create overhead surround sound. 2022 Neo QLED also delivers a truly remarkable Dolby Atmos experience thanks to the addition of Samsung’s new top channel speakers. With multi-channel speakers placed throughout the TV, Neo QLED delivers a dynamic sound experience that tracks the actions from all corners.

The Frame now offers a more realistic art viewing experience outside of a museum thanks to the anti-glare, low-reflection panel technology featuring an embossed, Matte Display. It also avoids fingerprints and smudges, allowing users to enjoy their favourite artwork in ideal conditions. The Frame comes in sizes ranging from 32” to 85.”

The Serif also comes with a matte finish body to blend seamlessly with the Matte Display, elevating the iconic design to give the most premium look and feel. With the addition of a 65” size option, The Serif is now offered in sizes ranging from 43” to 65.”

This enables the soundbar and TV speakers to work together with all the speakers on the TVs, including the top channel speakers, providing for an expansive, powerful soundscape.

Samsung’s 2022 soundbars also come with Wireless Dolby Atmos connectivity[3], a wireless Smart TV-to-soundbar connection in which both the screen and soundbar speakers deliver an incredible audio experience with no distracting cables.

Additionally, the new HW-S800B Ultra Slim Soundbar resets the standard in the slim soundbar category, delivering a powerful bass in compact form by integrating passive radiator technology with its subwoofer. With true top-firing speaker channels, the new ultra slim soundbar packs powerful sound at just 1.6” in depth.

“As technology continues to advance, the role of the screen has evolved to reflect our changing lifestyles. Our new lineup of home entertainment products delivers immersive viewing experiences that are customizable to consumers’ needs,” said Pat Bugos, VP/Head of Consumer Electronics, Samsung Electronics Canada. “From watching movies to gaming to showcasing art, we have an innovative offering for any room in the home.”

Thanks to The Frame’s popularity in North American and European markets, total sales since 2017 expected to exceed two million units by year end

Samsung Electronics recently announced that it has sold more than one million units of The Frame globally this year, making it the first single-year million-seller in the Samsung lifestyle TV lineup. Total sales since The Frame’s 2017 launch are expected to exceed two million units by year end, driven by heavy demand in North American and European markets.

“The Frame is not just a device for watching TV, but a lifestyle product which enhances a space with its design and enriches consumers’ lives with an extensive art collection,” said Simon Sung, Executive Vice President and Head of the Sales & Marketing Team of the Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. “We continue to look for ways to strengthen The Frame’s offerings to find innovative ways to satisfy consumers’ evolving needs and desires. We are also always exploring partnerships with new museums, galleries and artists to offer a much wider range of collection in the Art Store.”

Innovative Design Marries Form and Function

The Frame is the most popular model in the Samsung lifestyle TV lineup. Since it was first released in 2017, The Frame’s design, features and size have continuously evolved, reflecting consumers’ ever-changing tastes and lifestyle needs.

As consumers have been spending more time at home, the popularity of home entertainment content has risen, along with consumer demand for screens that go beyond a home device and enhance their interior design. The Frame perfectly combines these trends to offer consumers a blend of form and function, leading to rising sales for the lineup.

Innovating picture quality and keeping up with consumer trends drive Samsung to continually enhance each new iteration of The Frame. In 2020, Samsung added QLED picture technology to deliver more vibrant images. The TV also incorporates a brightness sensor to adjust the brightness level depending on the surroundings so that viewers can fully enjoy optimized pictures and videos. In November 2021, Samsung launched an 85” version, so The Frame is now available in seven different sizes (35”, 43″, 50”, 55″, 65″, 75″, 85″) to satisfy a variety of lifestyles and fit various home spaces.

The Frame in 2021 offers a slim bezel of 24.9mm, or almost half the width of last year’s model[1], adding elegance of space with frame-type bezels available in various colours[2] The Frame can be set up on a TV stand, wall-mounted[3] for a gallery look, or placed on the recently released Studio Stand[4].

Curated Content Through Strategic Partnerships In the Art Store

Aside from its unique and modern design, a focal point of The Frame is the Art Store—its proprietary art subscription platform.[5] When users are not watching content on The Frame, they can use Ambient Mode to choose works of art from the Art Store’s vast library of paintings and photographs to put on display—this way, the screen does not have to be a blank canvas interfering with interior design, but an element that enhances it.

The Frame’s Art Store offers over 1,500 artworks from world-renowned museums and galleries such as the Hermitage Museum in Russia, the Louvre in France, and the Prado Museum in Spain. Through partnerships, Samsung has expanded the Art Store’s collection to encompass unique artworks from up-and-coming creators all over the world such as Magnum Photos, a global photojournalist group, and most recently, the leading art photography by Maison Onigiri of YellowKorner, to offer vibrant artwork that takes advantage of The Frame’s QLED picture quality. With AI-based curation, the 2021 version of The Frame analyzes consumer’s patterns and tastes and recommends new artwork especially for them.

The 2021 version of The Frame offers significantly increased storage capacity with 6GB compared to previous versions that offered 500MB. It can now store up to 1,200 pictures in 4K resolution so users can select more art to form their own personalized gallery.

Samsung Electronics Canada recently announced a new 65” version of its lifestyle TV, The Serif, which is now available in Canada. As consumers trend towards purchasing larger screen televisions[1], Samsung is expanding its lifestyle TV portfolio by adding the 65” version of The Serif to the current lineup of 43″ and 55″ models.

The Serif is a mastery of form and function, inspired by the letter ‘I’ in a Serif font, that blurs the boundary between furniture and TV. It was created in 2015 in collaboration with Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec, globally renowned French furniture designers, to connect with the space around it through poetic design that doubles as shelf space. Now, with a bigger screen, The Serif can provide an even more immersive viewing experience and blend into its environment more than ever.

“Our expanded lineup of Samsung Lifestyle TVs reflects consumers’ continued desire for aesthetically pleasing televisions for any space in the home,” said Pat Bugos, VP/Head of Consumer Electronics, Samsung Electronics Canada. “With our new 65” model of The Serif, we are proud to offer Canadians a Smart TV that combines our innovative technology with our passion for art and design.”

Aside from its unique design, The Serif also offers Samsung QLED picture quality, displaying 100% colour volume[2] for a rich and realistic image across content. It also gives consumers a comprehensive Smart TV experience powered by Tizen OS with an expansive content library and smart features.

Through NFC technology, Samsung Galaxy smartphone models running Android 8.1 and above can utilize the Tap View feature to play content from their Galaxy mobile device on their TV by simply tapping the device on the sides of the TV[3]. Users can also easily connect to a compatible mobile device through connectivity features such as support for Apple AirPlay2[4] for more ways to watch content. When powered off, The Serif boasts Ambient Mode +, which allows it to display ambient imagery and multimedia produced by the Bouroullec brothers[5].

While most TVs are designed to be wall-mounted or on top of a TV stand, The Serif was built with an intentionally designed back, so that it can be placed in the centre of the room. The iconic “I’ shaped design, packaged in a slim frame, turns The Serif into a stylish statement piece. Samsung also offers an optional metal stand that pairs with the TV so it can stand on its own, easily detachable for versatility[6].

The iconic Samsung Lifestyle TV opens virtual doors to the world’s renowned museum

Samsung Electronics recently announced a new partnership with the iconic Musée du Louvre. Through this partnership with the Louvre in Paris, France, Samsung will continue to develop the Art Store[1] on its lifestyle TV, The Frame.

With new artworks from the Louvre joining the collection, The Frame now boasts a catalog of over 1,500 works of art from museums and galleries in 42 different countries including the Prado Museum in Madrid, the Albertina Museum in Vienna, the Tate Modern in London, the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, the Hermitage State Museum in Saint Petersburg and LUMAS.

“Ever since we launched our lifestyle TV portfolio in 2017, we have focused on developing the Art Store platform with prestigious partners. We want to offer much more than a television, inviting Art into the homes of The Frame owners everywhere. This catalogue lists works by hundreds of artists, covering diverse periods, from ancient civilizations to modern art,” explained Wonjin Lee, President and Head of Service Biz Team at Samsung Electronics. “This year, we are proud to join forces with one of the most famous museums in the world, the Louvre, to enhance this collection and offer a taste of French heritage throughout the world.”

Admire the Louvre’s treasures from your own home

By entering into a partnership with the Louvre[2], Samsung offers all The Frame owners a chance to explore the museum through forty pieces of artwork and photographs that consumers can enjoy in 4K picture quality. This selection includes must-see masterpieces such as the Mona Lisa and The Wedding Feast at Cana, as well as photos of the majestic Louvre galleries, its architecture and museum grounds (Louvre Pyramid, Tuileries Garden, etc.). A short description of each work gives users a glimpse into their background and history.

Samsung and the Louvre also plan to unveil other exclusive content for The Frame users later this year.

“The Louvre is a venue of discovery, imbued with emotion, a spectacular setting for artistic masterpieces. Admiring works from its collection every day, at home, as well as views of the building, galleries and gardens, is a wonderful way to see and understand the extraordinary beauty of this museum,” said Yann Le Touher, Head of Development, Brand Licensing and Commercial Partnerships of the Louvre.

Ultra-slim design and exceptional picture quality

The Frame boasts a unique and customizable design that sets it apart from the rest. Designed to be a TV when it’s on and art when it’s off, The Frame is an innovative digital canvas that reflects an individual’s personal style. The 2021 version of the lifestyle TV offers new custom options to complement every space and style, with two attachable optional bezel frames[3]: Modern and Beveled[4].

To complete the artwork appeal, The Frame can be hung flush to the wall on an ultra-slim mount and connected to a One Connect Box[5] via a single translucent[6] cable that integrates all TV connectors including the power source. Users can also set The Frame anywhere in the room on a Studio Stand[7].

In recent times, we’ve all been spending more and more time at home – a routine change that has meant finding fun alternatives to our usual outdoor activities, including making use of our balconies or gardens.

For those who are looking to make the most out of this at-home outdoor lifestyle, Samsung Electronics Canada last year introduced The Terrace, an outdoor TV that can be placed and used outside, along with The Terrace Soundbar.

As well as providing resilient versatility thanks to its water and dust resistance, The Terrace features a vivid screen for excellent viewing experiences. Read on for a look at a day in the life of The Terrace at home.

Enjoying Your Swim With Your Favourite Media, Worry-Free

One of the best ways to stay cool on warmer days is to set up a small pool in the garden for yourself or your family. With other TVs, if you wanted to enjoy your TV while cooling off, the pool would need to be placed far away from the TV to prevent water damage.

However, with The Terrace, you can place your TV without having to worry about minor splashes affecting it as the outdoor TV has obtained the IP55 certification from the International Electrotechnical Commission for water and dust resistance[1]. What’s more, The Terrace can withstand all kinds of weather conditions, even extreme ones that dip as low as negative 31°C or go as high as 50° Celsius. Thanks to this durability, you can stream your favourite TV show while relaxing on the deck, or put on your kids’ favourite animated show while they enjoy the pool.

For those users looking for a summery soundtrack to accompany their pool day, they can take advantage of the rich sound experience offered by The Terrace Soundbar. Offering 210 watts of sound featuring deep bass tones of the built-in woofer and cutting-edge, wide range tweeter, you can enjoy the same sound quality as if you were listening indoors.

To make things even more convenient for your at-home poolside fun, all you need to do when playing music through the Soundbar is tap your smartphone onto it in order to connect and play your music instantly[2].

Sharp Picture Quality, Even When the Sun Is Out

After a few hours of fun in the sun, it’s time to eat – and back-garden cookouts serve as a fun and easy way to recreate the camping experience at home. While you might be wondering how The Terrace can keep everyone entertained under the bright sun while the food is cooking, the TV in fact features bright picture quality and sharp dark colour contrast, making it easy to enjoy a movie even under direct sunlight[3].

The Terrace features a peak brightness of over 4,000 nits and 2,000 nits on average, allowing the users to comfortably enjoy video content even in the middle of the day[4]. Furthermore, The Terrace features high visibility thanks to its anti-reflection technology[5], which reduces the reflection of light off of its surface, and AI picture quality optimization technology that adjusts the screen’s brightness automatically based on changing light conditions.

Thanks to The Terrace’s Tizen OS, you can choose from a wide range of popular TV shows and movies when looking to relax in the garden without having to connect a separate OTT device by virtue of the smart features the Tizen engine offers.

Take Your Outdoor Games to the Next Level

There’s nothing better than relaxing outside and partaking in a game or two while the weather is still nice after a good meal in the garden – and with The Terrace, you can even enjoy your favourite digital games while still making the most of the weather.

The Terrace is an excellent screen on which to easily play games outside as the TV optimizes its sound and screen levels for your game without you needing to adjust any settings manually. Featuring a motion clarity feature, screen tearing is minimized while playing making for more seamless and enjoyable experience.

Taking a Trip Down Memory Lane With a Single Tap

At the end of a long day enjoying each other’s company, it’s time for the family to get together and take a look back at some precious memories. Thanks to The Terrace’s Tap View[6] feature, all you need do is gently tap your smartphone to the side of the TV to share your media on-screen and get straight into reminiscing. Not only does this make it more comfortable for everyone, as there’s no need to crowd around a single smartphone screen, but it also lets you make the most of your photos on the intricate big screen.

The Terrace comes with the Multi View[7] feature which lets you split the TV screen to enjoy multifarious contents at once. This lets you, for example, take a look over some past vacation photos on one side of the screen while catching up on your favourite TV series on the other; the possibilities are endless.

It was only in the very recent past that we believed personal TVs were limited to the indoor space only. With The Terrace, users can expand the uses of their TV for all kinds of fun activities; why not watch a movie while grilling on the barbeque, listen to music while relaxing in the cool breeze, or enjoy the sunset with a family slideshow? The Terrace and The Terrace Soundbar lets you take your private outdoor experiences to the next level.

The characteristics of Samsung TVs are continuing to evolve in line with the latest trends and lifestyle patterns. Against this backdrop, the role of the television has expanded. While it used to simply be a device for delivering entertainment, the TV has now become a central component of users’ interior design schemes.

To keep up with emerging trends, Samsung Electronics has continued to think outside the box as it explores new possibilities for TVs. Since 2015, the company has been continuously pushing the envelope to develop new looks and features with its televisions, and help ensure that consumers can fit their TV to their lifestyle. So, how did Samsung come up with its lifestyle TV line, and what kind of consumer experience is it aiming to provide? To find out, Samsung Newsroom met with the company’s lifestyle TV product planners, who have contributed to solutions ranging from The Serif to The Terrace.

Lifestyle TVs: Becoming More Than Just a Fixture of the Living Room

Vivid picture and a sense of immersion are two fundamental elements that a television should provide, with a well-designed product capable of delivering both. Nowadays, with lifestyles shifting, viewing has moved out of the living room and people often prefer to consume their content in whichever room they are in at the time.

“Our goal was to allow consumers to have a range of different screens for the various spaces in their house,” said group leader Kang-il Chung. “This would allow them to enjoy whatever content they wanted, wherever they were, based on Samsung’s ‘Screens Everywhere’ philosophy.”

“In order to establish concepts for new TV products and functions, we look at things like how televisions are being used, interior decoration trends and the overall cultural and lifestyle preferences of our users,” explained product planner Kyuseong Lee. During the planning stage, the product planners focus on connecting the desired user experience to the essence of the product. By doing this, the team seeks to make it easier for the user to comprehend both the product’s story and the distinct experience it offers. Added Lee, “Rather than simply adding lots of different functions, we work to clearly define the main concept of the product, then make it different. In this way, we look to realize all aspects of the core experience to perfection.”

The Serif and The Frame: Bringing Classy Décor to Your Other Rooms

Since the time of its invention, the television has been considered a staple of the living room. But now, with a growing number of users also putting TVs in rooms like their bedrooms and studies, this is changing. In line with this trend, Samsung has expanded what it deems the ‘TV space’ from the living room to a range of other rooms. Along with this, the company has started to develop televisions that not only suit the interior aesthetics of those other rooms, but also include features that match the needs and lifestyles of the people using the rooms.

In 2015, Samsung introduced its first lifestyle TV, The Serif, which was designed to help contribute to users’ interior design schemes. The Serif’s iconic I-shaped design was created by the internationally renowned Bouroullec Brothers and is a great choice for those who want an aesthetically pleasing television that works well in any space. “We pursued a meaningful design that emphasized people and space and tried to get away from the usual ‘TV look’,” said Chung. “A lot of consumers claim that The Serif looks more like a lifestyle product than a TV.”

The product planning team’s ongoing efforts to develop new TV models that blend well with their surrounding environments also contributed to the development of The Frame. Looking like a modern picture frame, this television can be matched to consumers’ home décor style and features an ‘Art Mode[1]’ that allows viewers to enjoy artistic masterpieces from the comfort of their homes. The Frame TV’s sensors are also capable of automatically detecting illumination intensity and movement.[2] “Samsung is collaborating with world-renowned curators, renowned art galleries, museums and artists to deliver a broad collection of art through the Art Store[3],” related Sunwoo Kim. “We will keep working hard to ensure that we are able to display an increasingly broad range of great artworks in stunning resolution.”

Thinking Outside the Box: The Sero for Millennials

Samsung’s ‘think outside the box’ development philosophy goes beyond considerations of space and expands to form. Modern viewers’ increasing use of mobile devices means that watching content on vertical screens is becoming more common. The Millennial generation’s tendency to watch content on their smartphones, in particular, has contributed to the increased prominence of vertically displayed content. Thus, The Sero was developed as an answer to the question, ‘what if we could make the TV screen rotatable so that it could better match the lifestyles of Millennial users?’

The Sero is the result of this bold idea. “Developing the Sero with a rotating screen was a long and challenging journey, as it was like we were exploring unchartered territory,” said the product planners. The team had to consider a broad range of factors, such as whether the user would rotate the screen manually or whether it would rotate automatically. The project brought many different teams together as they set out to create a whole new consumer experience, with their efforts eventually culminating in The Sero. “We are witnessing an increasing amount of consumption of vertical, short-form content on social networking sites,” remarked Chung. “And The Sero allows viewers to use screen mirroring to watch this content in a full screen, immersive format.”[4]

Expanding to Other Spaces: The Premiere and The Terrace

Over time, the focus of Samsung’s Lifestyle TVs has continued to shift. Due to the pandemic, many people now prefer watching movies at home over going to the theatre. The Premiere is specifically designed for those who want to create a theatre-like environment in their own homes. This projector boasts an easy-to-install large screen with very sharp picture quality. “With The Premiere, you can enjoy your favourite content on an ultra-large screen from the comfort of your home,” related Kim. “With a premium fabric finish, The Premiere also serves as an excellent complement to your interior décor.” [5]

In the current climate, people are also making more use of private outdoor spaces, such as balconies. In line with such consumer lifestyle changes, Samsung has introduced its first outdoor TV model, The Terrace. With an IP55 rating to help protect against water and dust[6], The Terrace delivers an outstanding outdoor viewing experience [7]. Said Lee, “Going forward, the outdoor TV market is expected to grow exponentially. The Terrace provides an excellent outdoor viewing experience, delivering exceptionally vivid and detailed images.”

As our TVs become increasingly important parts of our lives, some argue that the evolution of the product is nearing its conclusion. But Chung thinks differently, claiming that, “There is still an unending range of possibilities for what our televisions might become in the future.” He expressed hope that himself and his team will be able to keep introducing new and varied lifestyle TV models to keep providing fresh experiences to consumers.

Samsung’s lifestyle TV product planners believe that TVs need to keep evolving in order to keep up with users continuously changing lifestyles. “We want to develop TVs that people want to own, and that they’ll want to show off,” Kim stressed. “Our dream is to build a so-called ‘lifestyle universe’ where each space is equipped with a lifestyle TV that suits the function of the space.”

—

[1] Art Mode(Smart Service) and GUI(Graphic User Interface) may vary by model and region.

[2] The ‘Ambient Mode’ background setting feature may vary depending on the environment where the TV is installed including, but not limited to, wall designs, patterns and/or colours.
