Samsung’s support of the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games follows an 18-year partnership which began at the Torino 2006 Paralympic Winter Games. During this time, Samsung has used its mobile technology to engage and inspire fans and supporters while raising awareness of the Paralympic Movement. The “Dialogue in the Dark” demonstration at Sochi 2014 saw visitors at the Galaxy Studio Olympic Park experience a day in the life of a visually impaired person to help visitors understand the challenges they can experience from their perspective. Similarly, at PyeongChang 2018 Paralympic Winter Games, visitors at the Samsung experience space were able to try the Relúmĭno feature in conjunction with Samsung Gear VR, which helped those with low vision see the world more clearly. Samsung will continue to promote sporting excellence and shared values embodied by Paralympic athletes through its ongoing support of the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.

Championing Team Samsung Galaxy Trailblazers

For the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, Samsung has been supporting its roster of Team Samsung Galaxy athletes. The team of trailblazers, who were selected due to their impact on and off the field of play, includes French blind footballer and Olympic Torchbearer Yvan Wouandji and Paralympians Johannes Floors (para athletics, Germany), Madison De Rozario (para athletics, Australia), Ugo Didier (para swimming, France), Hee-jin Kim (goalball, Korea), Kadeena Cox (para cycling and para athletics, Great Britain) and Desirée Vila (para athletics, Spain). Interpreter, which instantly translates live conversations, will allow all Paralympians to connect with fellow athletes from around the world. Bixby Vision for Accessibility, which gives audio descriptions of images and user surroundings, and Relúmĭno outline, which enhances the screen’s contrast and brightness or sharpens image outlines to increase visibility, allowing athletes with low vision to seamlessly navigate competition venues and stay connected with fans following their Paris 2024 journey.

Opening Up Fan Experiences To Put the Paralympic Spirit in Motion

The start of the Paralympic Games also marks the next wave of the popular Samsung Olympic Games Pin Collection, taking place at the fully accessible Olympic rendezvous @ Samsung pop-up experiences at Champs-Elysees 125 and Square Marigny in Paris. Those who watched the Opening Ceremony could experience the event from the athletes’ point of view as they shared scenes from this memorable ceremony using their Galaxy Z Flip6 Olympic Edition smartphones.

Samsung collaborated with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and Olympic Broadcasting Services (OBS) to create a meaningful night for athletes and fans — requiring extensive planning with various Olympic partners for real-time footage streams, seamless 5G connectivity and other technology support.

The opening ceremony livestream is just one of several ways Samsung is sharing the excitement from Paris 2024 with the world. The sailing competition in Marseille and Victory Selfies will also bring fans closer to the Olympic Games. For a brand-new view of the sailing competition in Marseille, Samsung is installing Galaxy S24 Ultra smartphones to the boats and on the athletes’ shoulders. Furthermore, medalists can capture their emotions with Victory Selfies using the Galaxy Z Flip6 Olympic Edition provided at the podium.

More than 100 experts, 250 phones and 360 days of testing made delivering these moments possible. Not anymore. In the spirit of a ‘Games Wide Open’ at Paris 2024, Samsung is helping athletes create and share new, more personal memories of the celebration atop the podium with the Victory Selfie powered by Galaxy.

In an Olympic Games first, medalists at Paris 2024 have been documenting their ceremonies from their own perspective as they were handed the Galaxy Z Flip6 Olympic Edition on the podium to take their Victory Selfie after receiving their Olympic medals. The selfies have been uploaded automatically and wirelessly to the Athlete365 portal so athletes can share their moments on a whole new level — perfectly aligning with Samsung’s belief that ‘Open always wins’ and that openness creates new perspectives and infinite possibilities.

“To be able to share the moment of achieving my dream of winning a medal with my fans, family and friends around the world — through my own perspective — was incredible,” said Team Samsung Galaxy member Rayssa Leal (Skateboarding, Brazil). “It not only amplified a moment I’ll never forget but also celebrated the camaraderie beyond the competition as my fellow medalists and I took the Victory Selfie together on the podium.”

Opening its doors on July 27, the space will transport guests through a range of immersive experiences — from a visual journey through Samsung’s Olympic heritage to hands-on demonstrations of the latest Samsung Galaxy innovations — and will open up new ways to celebrate the Olympic spirit in a way that only Samsung Galaxy devices can, with Galaxy AI.

Samsung has once again collaborated with award-winning architect Jean Nouvel, who also designed the façade of the Olympic rendezvous @ Samsung | Champs-Elysees 125 space, on the new Square Marigny site, which spans from the famed Champs-Elysees to Place de la Concorde. Located near some of Paris’ most iconic landmarks and the open arena where the highly anticipated breaking and skateboarding competitions will be held, the space boasts a striking glass façade that uses colors and angles to pique visitors’ curiosity and give them a glimpse of the open, light-filled space in which they can enjoy Samsung’s most immersive pop-up experience yet. The multi-media façade will also display images of athletes from across the globe to celebrate the unifying power of sport with Samsung Galaxy.

Embark on a Visual Journey Through Samsung’s Olympic Heritage

Upon entry, visitors can learn more about how Samsung has been supporting the Olympic Games for almost four decades, following the brand’s journey to becoming a Worldwide Olympic and Paralympic Partner, and the role that its technology has played in evolving and enhancing the Games. They will also be able to get up close to every Olympic Edition phones to date, including the Galaxy Z Flip6 Olympic Edition for Paris 2024 and look back at some Olympic Torches dating back to Athens 2004.

Focusing on the present, the new Square Marigny site will house the Openness Monument — a spherical screen, resembling planet Earth — that sits at the center of the space. With the help of the official Paris 2024 mascots, the Phryges, it will display hero footage of skateboarding, breaking and surfing — three of the Games’ newest sports — in addition to Samsung’s central message for Paris 2024, “Open always wins,” and will be viewable from every angle.

Visitors will also have the chance to delve into Samsung’s latest smartphone technology and explore new ways to create and communicate, with Galaxy AI. They will get a chance to try out Samsung’s latest mobile innovations including the Galaxy Z Fold6 and Z Flip6, and experience fan favorite features that can help with everything from devising seamless Paris travel plans to taking the perfect shot.

Opening Up the Olympic Spirit

Visitors can also join in the celebrated Olympic tradition of pin trading through Samsung’s exclusive Olympic Pin promotion. Visitors who take part in the Galaxy AI experience or purchase any of Galaxy family products will receive a Samsung Paris 2024 Olympic Pin.

A bespoke foldable wall, created from 171 reused Galaxy Z Fold5 devices, will also display a series of breaking, skateboarding and surfing videos. Using kinetic production techniques, the screen will pulsate, creating a captivating and dynamic experience for everyone to enjoy.

The Olympic rendezvous @ Samsung | Square Marigny will host a series of special events over the course of the summer and will be open to anyone who wants to immerse themselves in the Olympic and Paralympic Games Paris 2024. It will be open 10 a.m. – 10 p.m. from July 27 – August 11 for the Olympic Games and August 29 – September 8 for the Paralympic Games.

Built-in Services and Apps Making the Olympic and Paralympic Experience Fun and Easy

To make it easier for athletes to use the phone while in Paris and beyond, each Galaxy Z Flip6 Olympic Edition will come with an eSIM of 100GB 5G data in partnership with Orange, and two years of Samsung’s global warranty. Additionally, to keep track of the latest Games-time schedules and travel around the Olympic venues with ease, several official International Olympic Committee (IOC) apps such as Athlete 365,⁶ Olympic Shop, Paris 2024, Transport Accred App, and IOC hotline will be pre-loaded. 

Via Samsung Wallet,⁷  it also will come pre-loaded with an in-app pass for free beverages in vending machines located throughout the Olympic and Paralympic Village in partnership with fellow Worldwide Partner, The Coca-Cola Company, and an unlimited complimentary public transport access card, in partnership with Île-de-France Mobilités (IDFM), so they can enjoy touring the city of Paris and its region.

To bring some fun and personalization to the athlete experience, each Galaxy Z Flip6 Olympic Edition will feature a suite of interactive, Paris 2024-themed apps, as well. These include PinQuest and Galaxy Experience for collecting and exchanging real and digital pins during Games-time, Olympic Go!, the official Olympic Game, and Galaxy Skateboard, a new game featuring the Phryges, the Paris 2024 mascots.

Sharing Moments of Victory from the Podium Firsthand

Standing atop the Olympic and Paralympic podium during the medal ceremony and realizing a lifelong dream is one of the most emotional and memorable moments an athlete can experience. Traditionally photographed by accredited media only because athletes have been prohibited from bringing personal belongings — including their mobile phones — to the ceremony, the view has always been captured from a distance and not through an athlete’s own lens.

For the first time in Olympic and Paralympic Games history, Samsung will provide the Galaxy Z Flip6 Olympic Edition for use on the podium at Paris 2024, so athletes can create their own memories and emotions via a new, victory selfie. Samsung’s customized technology will map and sort the athletes’ selfies by sport and upload them to Athlete365 in real-time, which will allow athletes to save and share their iconic moments with family and fans.

The Galaxy Z Flip6 Olympic Edition will be displayed at Olympic rendezvous @ Samsung showcases, including the one at Champs-Elysees 125, starting July 12. In collaboration with the IOC and International Paralympic Committee (IPC), athletes will receive their Galaxy Z Flip6 Olympic Edition from Samsung starting July 18.

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., a Worldwide Olympic and Paralympic Partner, today unveiled a new art campaign created by legendary French photographer Raymond Depardon and his son, director and photographer Simon Depardon. The campaign, which is called “Olympic Games Instants Shared #withGalaxy,” is now live across the city of Paris and contains captivating imagery that offers a new perspective to the power of sport. It is one of many ways Samsung is helping to bring the spirit of the Olympic and Paralympic Games to life in the host city as the countdown to Paris 2024 continues.

As a photographer and filmmaker, Raymond Depardon has captured some of the most iconic images of the century, including portraits of the athletes in Olympic competition between 1964 and 1980. The new campaign, which was developed in collaboration between Samsung and the City of Paris, pays homage to Raymond’s renowned work and represents a passing of the torch — as Raymond’s iconic black-and-white, archival imagery is exhibited alongside new imagery from his son Simon, who focused his lens on some of the newest Olympic Games and Paralympic Games disciplines.

The series of images features Team Samsung Galaxy athletes; Sarah Bee (Breaking), Aurelien Giraud (Skateboarding), Mejdi Schalck (Sport Climbing) and Yvan Wouandji (Blind Football) and is currently being showcased at nine iconic Parisian landmarks and city sites including Rue du Louvre, Pont de la Concorde and Rue des Pyramides, until early September 2024.

“I was thrilled to participate in this project because it is the first time ever that my photos are being displayed alongside my father’s,” said Simon Depardon. “The artwork not only features four incredible French athletes playing their sports, but also I wanted to show each athlete’s human character by taking portraits of them at the same time,” Depardon added. “The performance capabilities of the Galaxy S24 are outstanding, and opened up so many opportunities for us to create something that fits in artistically with the city.”

From June 24 through September 8, 2024, fans are invited to participate in the campaign by sharing messages of support for Team Samsung Galaxy via a QR code featured on each image. The messages will be shown at Samsung’s Olympic rendezvous @ Samsung | Champs-Elysees 125 and Village Plaza, Samsung’s athlete lounge within the Olympic and Paralympic Village, during the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

New, first-of-its-kind footage – which will be captured and shared with Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra – will play an integral role in opening up the historic Opening Ceremony on the Seine River and the Olympic Games’ sailing competitions like never before.

As the Official Smartphone and Computing Equipment partner of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, Samsung will harness its advanced mobile technology and 5G connectivity to provide a closer perspective of these iconic celebratory and competition moments. This new view, powered by Samsung Galaxy innovation, will not just help Paris 2024 deliver on its promise to be the most open Games ever, but also further Samsung’s legacy of innovation in support of the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

In about a month, the Opening Ceremony of the Olympic Games will take place outside of a stadium for the first time ever. Paris 2024 will see 10,500 athletes float down the Seine River in designated boats for each national delegation, in what aims to be the most open and accessible opening ceremony in history. Departing from the Austerlitz bridge, the iconic parade will follow a six-kilometer route through the centre of Paris, passing some of the official Olympic Games venues before the ceremony’s grand finale at the Trocadéro.

Galaxy S24 Ultra Gives Viewers Front Row Seat to the Games

To bring fans at home closer to the action and provide an intimate glimpse of athlete’s reactions during this once-in-a-lifetime voyage, Samsung will install more than 200 Galaxy S24 Ultra smartphones at the bow and sides of each of the 85 athlete vessels at the opening ceremony. The high-quality HDR footage taken with the Galaxy S24 Ultra devices will be shared and streamed via a private 5G network powered by Orange, the official mobile network provider of Paris 2024 in France. Orange will install more than a dozen of 5G antennas along the Seine to create the first-ever 5G standalone network in France, as this pioneering collaboration is designed to ensure a seamless 5G connectivity and viewing experience for fans around the world.

Samsung will also deploy the same technology for the sailing competitions in Marseille by installing the Galaxy S24 Ultra on each competition boat, letting fans experience the thrill of the race alongside their favorite Olympians and allowing them to truly get in on the action.

This presented a whole new set of challenges and months of research, development and testing – in close collaboration with the OBS and Orange – to guarantee video quality and connectivity performance across various bodies of water and weather conditions, which can be really windy with huge waves or extremely hot and sunny. Samsung and its partners addressed these challenges by leveraging the Galaxy S24 Ultra’s Optical image stabilization (OIS) features, increasing transmission power, and installing relay towers on chase boat to ensure a seamless livestream experience for viewers.

This announcement marks the next stage of Samsung’s long-standing commitment, in close collaboration with the IOC, to drive digital transformation and deliver cutting-edge technology at the Games by opening up the latest mobile innovations to athletes, fans and communities alike. This originated with the first ‘Call Home’ program which allowed nearly 2,500 athletes to speak to their families back home for free in 1998, when access to mobile phones was limited. It continued with the Wireless Olympic Works (WOW) app, the first official Olympic information service on mobile. The WOW app was introduced to Olympic organizers via Samsung-supplied Palm OS phones at Athens 2004 and then was made available to the public at Vancouver 2010, providing fans with the latest Games-time updates straight to their mobile phones.

In addition to driving mobile innovation, Samsung has also contributed to how athletes, and staff, connect and communicate during the Games-time. Since Nagano 1998, Samsung has provided athletes and staff with a total of more than 120,000 mobile products.
