Introduced with the Galaxy S25 series, Galaxy Z Fold7 and Galaxy Z Flip7, the One UI 8.5 beta program is now available to more devices including Galaxy S24 series, Galaxy Z Fold6, Galaxy Z Flip6, Galaxy S25 FE, Galaxy S24 FE and Galaxy Tab S11 in select markets[1] including India, Korea, the U.K., and the U.S.

The beta program will extend to more Galaxy devices in April. Users can register for the beta program via the Samsung Members app.

Samsung Electronics announced that One UI 5.1, which was newly unveiled with the Galaxy S23 series at Galaxy Unpacked 2023, will begin to roll out worldwide  for other Galaxy devices starting with the Galaxy S22 series[1], Z Fold4, Z Flip4, S21 series[2], and S20 series[3] in the coming weeks. With One UI 5.1, Galaxy devices will deliver a more visually appealing interface with new features that enable greater creativity and personalization for a more convenient overall experience.  

“One UI 5.1 is the up-to-date example of Samsung’s commitment to providing Galaxy users with the latest innovations as soon as possible,” said Janghyun Yoon, EVP and Senior Executive, Software Office. “Over the past several weeks, we have worked closely with our service providers and carrier partners to bring One UI 5.1 to current Galaxy smartphones and tablets around the world within a few short weeks of the Galaxy S23 series announcement.”

Professional-Quality Camera and More Engaging Gallery

One UI 5.1 expands upon the recently upgraded camera features announced with the Galaxy S23 series. Galaxy users now have greater flexibility to create professional quality photos with Expert RAW[4] features, now available directly as part of the Galaxy Camera app. Simply select “More” while taking a photo to capture high-quality shots in their raw format. In addition, enhanced AI-based Photo Remaster automatically improves deteriorated details of images by improving brightness, fine-tuning details and making colour corrections even in backlit scenes. It also removes unwanted shadows and reflections for a picture-perfect photo.[5]

New navigation improvements also make it easy to find photos within the Gallery app and create shared family albums[6]. Simply tap a person’s face in a photo to conduct a search for more images while the Gallery app searches for faces of loved ones to recommend for family photo albums.

A Unique Mobile Experience Personalized for Every User

Samsung has also been focused on giving Galaxy users greater control over their devices by customizing various user interface aspects. One UI 5.1 delivers several exciting new features that allow people to fine-tune nearly every aspect of the mobile experience – from appearance, to communications, actions and more. Samsung introduced new features that can understand how devices are used and make recommendations accordingly. For example, the new dynamic weather widget analyzes current conditions and creates a custom design that reflects the climate. Modes and Routines have expanded to enable custom wallpapers, ringtones, touch sensitivity and fonts that can personalize specific activities for even more convenience. One UI 5.1 also improves the Smart suggestions widget[7] by adding the ability to recommend Spotify[8] tracks and playlists based on users’ activities, such as music for road trips or relaxation.

Greater Connectivity throughout the Galaxy Ecosystem

Samsung has also developed One UI to bring greater integration and connectivity throughout the mobile ecosystem and introduced features supporting this objective. Users can enjoy a connected ecosystem across their mobile and PC devices with expanded Multi control between their Galaxy Book and smartphones[10]. This enables users to share the mouse, keyboard or trackpad of their Galaxy Book not only with their Galaxy tablet, but now also with select Galaxy phones [11], allowing them to seamlessly copy and paste text and drag and drop images from one device to another — as if they’re the same, single device. Furthermore, Link to Windows enables users to browse with Samsung Internet on their phones to continue browsing the same pages on their PC[12]. These pages can also be opened either on one device or a different device, making everyday life easier.

One UI 5.1 software update starts to roll out on the Samsung Galaxy S22 series¹, Z Fold4, Z Flip4, S21 series², and S20 series³ now. Software updates for additional Galaxy devices, including the Galaxy Z Fold3 and Z Flip3, will be available in the coming weeks.

A Mobile Experience Built Around You

In addition to providing you with options to curate a customized look and feel for your device, One UI 5 also offers new features that help you get things done more efficiently. For example, widgets in One UI 5 come with the exciting ability to keep your Home screen neat and tidy with new Stacked widgets. This new feature lets you drag and drop widgets on top of each other and swipe left or right to quickly and easily scroll through each one on order to free up space on your Home screen and use it more efficiently.

In order to help further streamline mobile tasks and activities, One UI 5 also comes with new Smart suggestions for widgets. Based on your usage patterns and the context of your mobile activity, Smart suggestions automatically suggest apps and actions that make the mobile experience more deeply personalized.

In addition, you can easily extract text from images and paste it into a note. Whether it’s quickly capturing event details from a poster you want to send to a friend, or easily saving a phone number from a business card, One UI 5 makes it easier to be productive with smart text extraction.

Furthermore, with One UI 5, you can control all the devices connected to your smartphone in the new Connected devices menu, where you’ll be able to access all features that work with other devices such as Quick Share, Smart View and Samsung DeX. You also now get easy access to the Auto switch Buds menu, which lets you automatically switch your Buds from one device to another for more seamless inter-device operation.

Convenient Security and Peace of Mind

Samsung understands that there is no privacy without security. So, in One UI 5, privacy and security settings have been brought together in one clear, easy-to-navigate dashboard, making it easier for you to keep your device protected and your sensitive information private.

This new Security and privacy dashboard has been designed to make understanding your device’s status as simple as possible. With one glance, you can get a quick overview of your device’s security details, together with suggestions and warnings to enhance security.

To make sure your private information stays private, One UI 5 also features a new notification on the Share Panel^[1] that warns you if you’re about to unwittingly share a photo that contains potentially sensitive information such as an image of your credit or debit card, driver’s license, Social Security card or passport.

Shoot Dynamic Photos and Videos with Smart New Camera Features

The Galaxy S21 Series 5G with One UI 3.1 introduced incredible new camera innovations, making it now easy to capture stunning photos and shoot professional-looking videos. Now, Galaxy[1] owners can experience these features with the One UI 3.1 update.

Never miss a moment with the improved Single Take[2] feature, which captures a variety of still and video formats simultaneously with just a tap.

Once you’ve captured your shot, One UI 3.1 introduces the new Object eraser tool to help you to get that perfect image. Use this intelligent photo editing tool to cut out unwanted parts of your photos effortlessly, without time-consuming manual editing. If you want to edit out distracting objects, simply tap the area you wish to remove and it will be automatically selected and deleted.

One UI 3.1 features an improved touch autofocus and autoexposure controller[3], making adjusting the focus and brightness of your photos easy, allowing you to capture your best shot every time. With just a swipe left or right anywhere on the screen, you can now edit the brightness of your image before you’ve taken the shot.

One UI 3.1 also introduces the new Multi Mic Recording[4] feature, which, when in Pro Video mode, allows you to simultaneously record audio through both your phone and a connected Bluetooth device such as Galaxy Buds Pro, Buds Live and Buds+[5]. Your privacy is important and now One UI 3.1 makes it easier to control what you share. Remove metadata that reveals the location of your photos before you share them or use Private Share[8] to control who is allowed to access the content you send and how long it is available for.
