One UI 8.5 Beta and the features highlighted in this press release is not available in Canada Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. today announced the One UI

One UI 8.5 Beta and the features highlighted in this press release is not available in Canada

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. today announced the One UI 8.5 beta program, introducing new and easier ways to create, connect, and stay protected. One UI 8.5 enables users to enable more seamless actions, device management and enhanced security.

One UI 8.5: What’s New for Content Creation?

One UI 8.5 makes creating and sharing content more intuitive from start to finish. Users can keep generating new images without interruption with the updated Photo Assist 1. They can edit photos using Photo Assist features continuously, without needing to save each iteration. When finished, they can easily review all the creations in edit history and pick their favourites to keep.

Sharing is smoother too, thanks to enhancements to Quick Share2 which now recognizes people in photos and proactively suggests sending them directly to those contacts.

How Does One UI 8.5 Improve Device Connectivity?

New cross-device features make managing devices easier, whether users need to manage files, share their network, or communicate with nearby devices. Audio Broadcast3 enables effortless communication with LE Audio-supported devices nearby using Auracast. In addition to audio from media sources, users can now broadcast their voice using their Galaxy phone’s built-in microphone – ideal for group situations like tours or events.

Storage Share4 brings even more fluidity to the Galaxy ecosystem by showing files from other Galaxy devices – including tablets and PCs – directly in the My Files app. It also allows users to access their phone’s files from other Samsung devices, including their TV.

How Is My Galaxy Device Staying Protected?

For additional protection, Failed Authentication Lock automatically locks the screen if there are too many failed attempts to verify identity by fingerprint, PIN or password. Identity check also safeguards more settings than before, adding an extra layer of protection.

Availability

The One UI 8.5 beta program will be first available to Galaxy S25 series users in select markets including Germany, India, Korea, Poland, the UK and the U.S. from December 8. The availability of One UI 8.5 beta is not yet confirmed for Canada.

As technology continues to become further embedded in our everyday lives, our communication increasingly takes place online, which could mean sharing sensitive and private information over the Internet.

As a result, you might have concerns that your private information and data could be lost or compromised. When connecting to another device, you might also worry about who can see that data, and how to keep it secure.

At Samsung, we’ve thought of all this and made it is our mission to provide you with a secure way to share.

Private Sharing with Quick Share

Ever been in a situation like this? You want to share pictures of your newborn baby, or a video from your recent holiday, but don’t want to risk them somehow ending up online or visible to anyone other than those you intended.

Samsung Galaxy has a built-in solution to this problem: Quick Share’s Private Sharing1, a privacy-preserving file-sharing function that lets you share your data with peace of mind.

With Private Sharing, you and you alone own the data. You can ensure that only the designated recipients can open the files you send – no one else. You can also set permissions and expiration dates for the data, so it’s only viewable for a limited amount of time. Further, you can give read-only access without the ability to re-share; revoke the data access whenever you like; restrict screenshotting, and see when the recipient received and opened the file.

Private Sharing makes it safe and easy to share your content, and you can share up to 20 files at once with a total size of under 200MB2. And of course, all your files are encrypted when shared, courtesy of blockchain-based encryption technology.

To use Private Sharing, select the file you want to send and tap the Share icon. Tap Quick Share, followed by the three dots for more options in the top right corner. Then select Turn on Private Sharing. Once the message has been sent, you can check what you’ve sent and change the expiration date or revoke sharing permissions.

▲ Select file > Quick Share > Three dots (more options) > Turn on Private sharing

With Quick Share’s Private Sharing, you’re in control of your data and whom you choose to share it with, and you’ll be kept up to date every step of the way.

Enhanced Data Protection with End-to-End Encryption

Galaxy’s Enhanced Data Protection secures your data in the Samsung Cloud.

Enhanced Data Protection is a function applied from One UI 6.1 and tablets after Tab S9 including Tab S8 with Android 14 OS update. Enhanced Data Protection offers additional protection for Galaxy devices when you sync or back up your data with the Samsung Cloud3. This feature mitigates data loss via end-to-end encryption, which means data can only be encrypted or decrypted on your device and cannot be seen by anyone but you. In other words, you can connect to other devices while staying secure, and your data will be kept safe even if a server is compromised or account details are stolen.

When you activate Enhanced Data Protection, you’ll be prompted to write down a recovery code to help prevent the loss of your data in the event you lose your device.

To use Enhanced Data Protection, open the Samsung Cloud app, tap the three dots for more options, choose Settings, and then Enhanced Data Protection. From here, you can choose to encrypt backup or synced data. Alternatively, you can open your device Settings and go to Security and Privacy to find this feature.

▲ Samsung Cloud > Three dots (more options) > Settings > Enhanced data protection ▲ Settings > Security and privacy > More security settings > Enhanced data protection

End-to-end encrypted data is only accessible on devices using the Enhanced Data Protection feature, and cannot be accessed by anyone else, including Samsung.

We know that our users want to be able to enjoy their lives safely with the knowledge that their devices and data are protected. Galaxy enables you to do just that – so you can safely go out there knowing we have your back.

In today’s world, smartphones have become indispensable, providing access to our digital lives at the fingertips. This is why Samsung Electronics initially developed One UI: to better connect innovative hardware with intuitive and easy-to-use software that gives people greater control over their mobile devices.

Now available in Canada, Samsung is excited to share details around the latest One UI offering, with new features that offer Galaxy users the freedom to choose their own mobile experience. Read on for a closer look at what to expect from One UI 5.

Match Your Phone to Your Lifestyle

What you need from your device can change throughout the day. The features you utilize for your morning routine to get you up and active might not be the same as what keeps you focused during the working day. With One UI 5’s Routines, you can trigger a sequence of actions on your device based on your activities, and with Modes, you can create customized settings for different parts of your life from sleeping and relaxing to exercising and driving.

For example, while you’re exercising, your priority might be to mute notifications in order to stay in the zone and play music. Alternatively, when it’s time for bed, turning off sounds and turning on Dark mode can help you wind down.

One UI 5 also offers a fresh, new look and feel that makes the user experience more welcoming and seamless. From bolder, simpler app icons to a streamlined color scheme, Samsung has paid attention to intricate details for a more engaging mobile experience.

Samsung also refined the notifications in One UI 5 to be more intuitive, making them effortless to read at a glance, as well as offering more defined answer and decline buttons when receiving a call through the redesigned pop-up call display.

Beyond overall design aspects, personalization and the ability to express oneself are also a key part of the mobile experience. In order to take this to the next level, One UI 5 now supports easy and diverse customization directly within the lock screen. With just a few taps, you can trim a video to transform your most memorable moments into a moving tribute on your phone. You can also make your lock screen feel more personal by changing your wallpaper, clock style, and choosing which notifications pop-up– – all from one screen.

A Mobile Experience Built Around You

In addition to providing you with options to curate a customized look and feel for your device, One UI 5 also offers new features that help you get things done more efficiently. For example, widgets in One UI 5 come with the exciting ability to keep your Home screen neat and tidy with new Stacked widgets. This new feature lets you drag and drop widgets on top of each other and swipe left or right to quickly and easily scroll through each one on order to free up space on your Home screen and use it more efficiently.

In order to help further streamline mobile tasks and activities, One UI 5 also comes with new Smart suggestions for widgets. Based on your usage patterns and the context of your mobile activity, Smart suggestions automatically suggest apps and actions that make the mobile experience more deeply personalized.

In addition, you can easily extract text from images and paste it into a note. Whether it’s quickly capturing event details from a poster you want to send to a friend, or easily saving a phone number from a business card, One UI 5 makes it easier to be productive with smart text extraction.

Furthermore, with One UI 5, you can control all the devices connected to your smartphone in the new Connected devices menu, where you’ll be able to access all features that work with other devices such as Quick Share, Smart View and Samsung DeX. You also now get easy access to the Auto switch Buds menu, which lets you automatically switch your Buds from one device to another for more seamless inter-device operation.

Convenient Security and Peace of Mind

Software update with exciting flagship camera features now available in Canada

Samsung Electronics Canada announced that select next generation features found on its flagship Galaxy S20 series are now available on the Galaxy S10 and Galaxy Note10 series devices through a new software update[1]. Wherever their new normal finds them, users will now be able to take advantage of the latest Galaxy camera software technology, including using the popular Single Take mode, so they can uncover share-worthy moments with loved ones at home. Additionally, users will have access to a variety of software enhancements that make the entire Galaxy experience on the Galaxy S10 and Note10 series devices even more enjoyable.

See below for a closer look at how the flagship Galaxy S20 series features will work on the Galaxy S10 and Galaxy Note10 series devices.

Advanced Photo and Video Experiences

This software update brings select Galaxy S20 photo and video experiences to the Galaxy S10 and Note10 series. With Single Take, stay in and discover new memories while innovative integrated AI technology goes to work. Single Take uses the camera system and AI to capture a number of photos and videos at once and recommends the best shot for you[2]. Single Take films a 3-10 second burst of video and then shares up to 10 photos and 4 videos for you to select. Try capturing your pet’s antics or the latest dance challenge and share unique GIFs, hyperlapse videos, or stills with fun filters, all from a single capture.

With an improved Night Mode on the Galaxy S10 series, and the addition of Night Hyperlapse on both Galaxy S10 and Note10 series, you’ll be able to capture even more amazing photos and videos even in low light. From cozy moments on the couch to behind-the-scenes footage from within the living room blanket fort, simply select Night Mode in your camera options and hold the shutter for your desired shot. Or peek out your window to capture artistic light stream videos with longer adjusted exposure time at night – with Night Hyperlapse you can watch passing cars, streetlights, and even the spring sunsets come to life in low light, or reimagine your home photo shoots by adding dramatic low-light elements from your old lava lamp to your child’s nightlight.

When you’ve captured that perfect image, Custom Filter lets you create your own filter with colours and styles you like from a favourite photo serving as inspiration. This creates a reusable filter that can be applied to future photos when captured.

For the aspiring filmmaker, Pro Video gives you even more control, allowing you to adjust settings like ISO, shutter speed and exposure level. You can also switch between the front and rear cameras while recording video, and can set the Pro Video setting before or even during recording. Paired with Super Steady anti-rolling stabilization and AI motion analysis to enable smooth, stable shots even in low light, Pro Video empowers every creator to capture their world in pro-grade quality.

Easy Sharing Capabilities [3]

You can now share more content quickly with more people, all with a single click. With Quick Share, you can see nearby contacts and share photos, videos, or even large files with up to five people with a tap – sharing hundreds of photos with your family or roommates is now easy. With Music Share, you can let loved ones play music from their favourite playlists without disconnecting your paired Bluetooth connection – whether using your home speaker system or your car stereo, just enable Music Share on your Galaxy S10 or Note10 series devices.
