Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. announced its latest Smart Monitor lineup, featuring the flagship Smart Monitor M9 (M90SF model) alongside the updated Smart Monitor M8 (M80F model) and M7 (M70F model). With the introduction of QD-OLED technology to the M9 and advanced AI features across the lineup, the new offerings provide a more personalized and connected screen for work and entertainment.

The Smart Monitor M9 introduces QD-OLED technology to the Smart Monitor lineup for the first time. Its 32-inch 4K QD-OLED panel delivers deep contrast and vibrant colour, offering a more immersive visual experience across productivity, streaming and gaming. Samsung OLED Safeguard+ [1] helps maintain screen integrity over time with a proprietary cooling system designed to reduce the risk of burn-in. The M9 also features a Glare-Free[2] display to minimize reflections and ensure consistent visibility and comfort — even in bright lighting conditions.

The M9 is powered by AI Picture Optimizer[3], 4K AI Upscaling Pro[4] and Active Voice Amplifier (AVA) Pro, which work together to enhance picture and sound quality in real time based on content and surroundings. Whether users are watching, creating or multitasking, the display adapts automatically to deliver optimized performance.

The M9 also serves as a smart entertainment hub with access to popular streaming apps, Samsung TV Plus and Samsung Gaming Hub — which enables cloud-based gaming without a connected console or PC. Elegant designs for every style and space

The full lineup is comprised of nine versatile monitors to meet the needs and styles of a wide range of users. The M8, M7, and M5 Smart Monitors come in a variety of colors and sizes. The M8 and M7 models are available in 32-inches, while the M5 model is available in both 32- and 27-inches. The M8 with UHD resolution and 400nit brightness is available in Warm White, Daylight Blue, Sunset Pink, and Spring Green options. The M7 with UHD resolution and 300nit brightness comes in Warm White while the M5 with Full HD resolution comes in a sleek Black or White.

Introduced with a new Iconic Slim Design, the M8 and M7 models are super slim, measuring 11.39mm at the thinnest point on the monitor. To elevate the look of the monitor and the room surrounding it, an organic, chic herringbone pattern has been applied to the back of both the M8 and M7 models. The height-adjustable stand with tilt support helps M8 users adjust the angle whenever they need to, while creating a clutter-free environment. The screen can also pivot 90 degrees to reduce the fatigue of scrolling down long files.

Monitors that redefine smart entertainment

The 2023 Smart Monitor M8 has received multiple upgrades and feature enhancements from the previous generation. Thanks to 4K resolution, HDR 10+[2], and 400nit brightness, the M8 delivers brilliant, vivid pictures to offer the best of smart entertainment in a monitor. M8 users can enjoy easy access to Samsung Gaming Hub[3], the all-in-one streaming platform, as well as Smart Hub for services such as Prime Video, Netflix, and YouTube. Upgraded monitors for maximum productivity

The 2023 lineup has been enhanced to make remote work seamless and effortless. The PC-less workspace allows remote access by wirelessly connecting to and mirroring PCs. The M8 has a magnetic and removable camera so users can connect wirelessly with no additional purchase necessary. Its SlimFit camera[4] supports FHD resolution and video conferencing features. Additionally, Multi View has been upgraded, and now allows you to use Microsoft 365 and the Browser app in full screen mode to reduce switching between apps[5].

To enhance the interface of all the 2023 Smart Monitors, mouse and keyboard control functionality has been added to many apps, including SmartThings and Smart Hub. Users can now maintain full control, while exploring their favorite content without needing a remote.

Next-level monitors with new personalized features

Users can easily control all their in-home IoT devices from a single monitor thanks to the built-in IoT Hub, supporting Zigbee and Thread[6]. The M8 and M7 both include built-in voice assistants, including Bixby and Amazon Alexa[7], enabling users to control the monitor with their voice. Far-field voice is also supported in the M8 and M7 models with a built-in mic, allowing users to speak directly to the monitor.

The new My Contents feature, now available across the 2023 Smart Monitor lineup, allows users to quickly access helpful information. When the monitor is on standby mode and detects a registered smartphone through Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), the screen lights up with the user’s photos, weather and more at a glance. The monitor resumes standby mode when the smartphone is out of range.

Its 1000R curved 57” screen uses quantum mini LED technology with VESA Display HDR 1000 specification to deliver superb imaging in any game environment, from shadows to bright scenes. The Matte Display reduces light reflection on the screen, minimizing distractions during the most intense gaming sessions.

It also boasts DisplayPort 2.1 support which transfers data approximately twice as fast as the previously used DisplayPort 1.4. In addition, the new DP2.1 allows lossless industry-standard Display Stream Compression (DSC) to transmit information without distortion.

Odyssey OLED G9: Brighter Whites, Deeper Blacks, and Near Infinite Colour Contrast

The Odyssey OLED G9 (Model Number: G95SC) is the latest addition to the Odyssey lineup, featuring a dual quad-HD 49” 1800R curved display, with a 32:9 ratio. Its quantum dot technology OLED lighting is controlled pixel-by-pixel, allowing a near-infinite colour contrast ratio.

The OLED screen illuminates each pixel separately and does not rely on a backlight, allowing a 1,000,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio while delivering RGB and deep black without colour filters.

For smooth gameplay, the Odyssey OLED G9 also features a 0.1ms response time and 240Hz refresh rate to eliminate lagging and skipping.

The Odyssey OLED G9 also uses third party apps like Prime Video, Netflix and YouTube through Smart Hub, which allows users to enjoy various over-the-top content using an Internet connection, without the need for a PC.

ViewFinity S9: Smart Colour Calibration Designed for Creative Professionals

The ViewFinity S9 (Model Number: S90PC) is Samsung’s newest addition to its monitor lineup. It features a 5K 27” screen for the first time on an S9 model and is optimized for creative professionals such as graphic designers and photographers. Its 5,120 x 2,880 resolution combined with its wide colour gamut of 99% DCI-P3, provides crisp and true-to-form details, and its average Delta E ≦ 2[2] colour accuracy also produces clear and precise colour representation, even in complicated or nuanced visual environments.

The monitor’s built-in Colour Calibration Engine ensures precise screen colour and brightness, allowing users to adjust white balance, Gamma and RGB colour balance for accuracy with their smartphones through the Samsung Smart Calibration application. The Matte Display limits light reflection and glare to minimize distractions while working.

Users can connect cameras and other devices to the monitor through USB-C and Thunderbolt 4 connections to easily transfer gigantic files of high-resolution video or other large data sets from storage devices to their PC. –

Smart Monitor M8: Bringing Productivity, Entertainment and Personal Life Together

The Smart Monitor M8 (Model Number: M80C) features stylish and slim design and now comes in a new 27” size in addition to the existing 32” size, both with 4K resolution. It comes in four colour options that allow this monitor to fit in any room: Daylight Blue, Spring Green, Sunset Pink, or Warm White.

The height-adjustable stand with tilt support gives users the best angle. The screen can now pivot 90 degrees, which helps users view long documents with less scrolling. It also meets VESA mount compatibility standards to help save space and retain a clutter-free environment.

What is your favourite piece of Samsung technology that you use daily?

There’s nothing more versatile to me than the M8 Smart Monitor. As someone who frequently changes between watching TV/videos to gaming to producing content, the monitor functionality makes it easy to do all of it seamlessly.

In your vignette, you had the opportunity to work and connect with a close friend. Can you tell us about that experience?

This truly was one of the coolest and more meaningful experiences of my life. I can’t tell you how stunned I was, and how emotional I was at the same time. Having interviewed professional athletes for a decade, I was ready for anything, but seeing my friend on the other side of the call truly threw me off temporarily.

Provide an example of a meaningful connection that technology has enabled for you.

Having gone through what we all have over the last couple of years, it has made it more difficult to connect with people physically. The technology available to us made it as close as possible to do so. Case in point Jamil – during the early parts of the pandemic, we’d spend our evenings video chatting on our Samsung Galaxy devices while playing monopoly deal over Xbox. It was a great way to not be alone, and simulate the real life hangouts we had both prior to, and now after, the worst of the pandemic.

How does technology help you in your professional life to stay on top of breaking sports news?

I can’t tell you how many times in my day I’m opening social media on my Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 to see what the latest news is. It’s only possible because of the vast leaps tech has made in my lifetime, having everything I need in my pocket. It’s completely transformed the media game, and more specifically the sports media game, in that it’s 24/7. To continue to keep my credibility and reputation, I have to be on it, no matter where I am and what else I’m doing. The technology we have today makes it easy.

What’s next for you? What cool and exciting projects are on the horizon?

When you work in media, particularly sports media, everyday feels like a new, cool project. Being able to navigate through the world of live sports through instant reaction and analysis makes doing what I do exciting every single time the camera turns on.

Samsung Electronics Canada recently announced its latest Smart Monitor series, the M8, featuring an upgraded, stylish design. The versatile new M8 delivers Samsung’s iconic slim design in four new colours – Warm White, Sunset Pink, Daylight Blue, and Spring Green – available in 32-inches with UHD resolution and a SlimFit Cam.

First launched in November 2020, Samsung’s Smart Monitor series is a family of do-it-all screens designed for modern day users who demand a product that offers both functionality and entertainment at home. The M8 is not only a traditional monitor: it also allows users to enjoy a variety of OTT services^[1], including Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+ and Apple TV via Wi-Fi without having to connect to a PC or TV.

When it comes to style, the Smart Monitor M8 offers both space and work efficiency in an ultra-stylish design. The new model is 11.4mm thin, about three-quarters slimmer than the previous Samsung model.

Featuring a sophisticated flat-back design, the M8’s range of colours complements any setting based on the user’s personal preferences.

When it comes to productivity, the Smart Monitor M8 has it all. The M8 provides an excellent home office environment without using a PC by connecting to various IT devices through the upgraded Smart Hub. The Workspace User Interface offers all services needed to work on one screen, helping users wirelessly connect to a Windows or Mac PC and efficiently use an extensive range of useful features, including Samsung DeX, Apple AirPlay 2^[2] and Microsoft 365^[3] cloud service, as well as mirroring content from a compatible smartphone to the M8.

Additionally, the Smart Monitor M8 has a magnetic and removable SlimFit Cam that can attach to the monitor while keeping desk space neat without any unsightly wires. The SlimFit Cam also features face tracking and auto zoom functions, swiftly identifying a person’s face when on screen and automatically focusing on the subject. In other words, it can follow and capture an individual speaker, a great option for active presentations or livestreaming.

The Smart Monitor M8 has an IoT hub called SmartThings Hub, where users can connect all their IoT devices wirelessly. The SmartThings app^[4] allows users to track IoT devices throughout the house easily with the app’s intuitive control panel, thus highlighting all information provided by other devices connected to the M8 such as a light switch and plug power^[5].

Equipped with a high-sensitivity Far Field Voice microphone, the assistant controls Bixby and Amazon Alexa using voice commands. In addition, the microphone uses an Always On Voice function, displaying conversation information on screen when Bixby is activated, even if the monitor screen is turned off.

To accompany the monitor’s wide array of features, the display offers adaptive picture technology, enhancing viewer comfort by automatically adjusting display brightness and colour temperature. The M8 also includes a height adjustable stand (HAS) and tilt functionality, allowing users to find an ideal position for every project, movie night or study session.

In January 2022, the Smart Monitor M8 earned CES Innovation Awards Honouree from the CTA (Consumer Technology Association) in recognition of a wide array of its display technologies.
