Samsung Electronics today announced that its latest lineup of QLED TVs has received ‘Real Quantum Dot Display’ certification from TÜV Rheinland, an international certification organization based in Germany. The certification verifies that Samsung’s QLED TVs meet global standards for quantum dot display structure, reinforcing the company’s technological advancements in the premium TV market.

The certification confirms that Samsung QLED TVs comply with the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) 62595-1-6 standard, which defines the application of quantum dot (QD) light converting unit combined with blue light sources for standard QLED displays.[1]

As part of the certification process, TÜV Rheinland analyzed the light spectrum produced by Samsung QLED TVs and confirmed that it displayed clear separation between red, green and blue — an important marker of colour accuracy. This distinction is enabled by quantum dots and may not be as pronounced in displays using alternative materials, which can sometimes cause colour mixing or reduced clarity. The results demonstrate how Samsung’s use of quantum dots contributes to delivering vivid and precise colour expression.

The series that have received certification include the Neo QLED 8K (QN990F, QN900F), Neo QLED 4K (QN90F, QN85F, QN80F, QN70F) and QLED 4K (Q8F, Q7F, Q6F) series.

Quantum dots are ultra-fine nanomaterials, tens of thousands of times smaller than a human hair, renowned for their ability to reproduce precise and vivid colors depending on light wavelength. The method by which quantum dots are integrated into display panels has become a key indicator for evaluating technological advancement in the premium TV segment.

Separately, Samsung’s quantum dot technology has also been recognized by global testing organization Société Générale de Surveillance (SGS) for its excellence in cadmium-free design — an environmentally conscious approach that eliminates the use of cadmium, a toxic heavy metal.[2]

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. today announced that approximately 80 models in its 2025 TV, monitor and soundbar lineups have received Product Carbon Reduction¹ and Product Carbon Footprint² certifications from TÜV Rheinland, a globally recognized certification organization based in Germany. This marks the fifth consecutive year that the premium lineups, Neo QLED 8K and Neo QLED, have received certifications, reinforcing the company’s continued efforts in carbon reduction.

Following last year’s certification of 60 models across the Neo QLED, OLED and Lifestyle TV categories, Samsung has further increased its number of certified products in 2025 to include QLED TVs. In addition, the company is also working towards obtaining certification for its Color E-Paper lineup later this year.

The certifications from TÜV Rheinland are awarded following a rigorous evaluation of a product’s entire lifecycle — including manufacturing, transportation, usage and disposal — based on internationally recognized standards. By assessing and verifying carbon emissions at each stage, these certifications highlight Samsung’s efforts to reduce environmental impact across its product lineup.

In particular, the Product Carbon Reduction certification is granted to products that have already received a Product Carbon Footprint certification and further demonstrate a measurable reduction in carbon emissions compared to their predecessors.

Samsung’s efforts to reduce its products’ carbon  footprint  date back to 2021, when the Neo QLED became the first 4K and higher-resolution TV to earn the Reducing CO₂ certification from Carbon Trust. Since then, Samsung has continually expanded its portfolio of certified products, including QLED, Crystal UHD, Lifestyle TVs, OLED TVs and a wide range of monitors and digital signage products.

Samsung aims to achieve “Product Carbon Footprint” and “Product Carbon Reduction” certifications for over 60 models in 2024

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. announced that eight product series[1] in its 2024 Neo QLED 4K and 8K, OLED, and The Frame lineups have received the “Product Carbon Reduction” certification from TÜV Rheinland, the international independent third-party testing, inspection, and certification organization. The certification demonstrates the carbon footprint reduction ratio of these products compared to the previous year’s model, serving as a testament to the company’s efforts to reduce carbon emissions year-over-year.

TÜV Rheinland evaluated greenhouse gas emissions for Samsung’s TV products throughout their life cycle- “from Cradle to Grave” – ranging from manufacturing, transportation, use to disposal, in accordance with the internationally recognized standards such as ISO 14067 and ISO 14064-4 as well as TÜV Rheinland’s self-developed standard 2 PfG Q2880/09.23. It verifies and certifies that all of eight TV product series meet the carbon reduction standard requirement set by TÜV Rheinland. The newly certified products include two Neo QLED 8K series, three Neo QLED 4K series, two OLED series and one series of The Frame.

In addition to product certification, Samsung’s Visual Display Business obtained the display and consumer electronics industry’s first “Product Carbon Footprint Calculation Method” certification from TÜV Rheinland. This certification measures and manages greenhouse gas emissions throughout the complete life cycle of a product, collecting and analyzing data in accordance with management regulations and stipulated execution manuals to calculate greenhouse gas emissions and ensure transparent and reproducible results.

As Samsung continues its work to reduce the environmental impact of its products, it aims to achieve TÜV Rheinland’s “Product Carbon Footprint” and “Product Carbon Reduction” certifications for over 60 models in 2024, including newly introduced soundbars. With these eight product series’ carbon reduction result and analysis report, Samsung has more confidence and clear direction in the development and design of the next generation decarbonized TV product.

This recognition builds on previous acknowledgements of Samsung’s sustainability efforts. It obtained its first “Reducing CO2” certification from the Carbon Trust in 2021 for Neo QLED 4K and higher resolution TVs. In 2022, 11 TV models and five monitor and signage products achieved the ‘Reducing CO2’ certification, and most recently, 24 models across Samsung’s 2023 lineup were certified by the Carbon Trust and TÜV Rheinland.
