<p>Samsung Electronics today announced that UScellular has enhanced its 5G network capabilities in the Mid-Atlantic region with Samsung’s 5G solutions. The companies have worked together to deploy a new network architecture using Samsung’s 5G mmWave and virtualized Radio Access Network (vRAN) solution to support UScellular’s growing fixed wireless access and mobile traffic. In November, the operator launched this new service in several markets in the region, already delivering elevated connectivity to its customers.</p>
<p>For the Mid-Atlantic markets, UScellular utilized Samsung’s 5G Compact Macro — a 3GPP-based distributed architecture solution — to enable mmWave connectivity, offering its customers fast, reliable mobile and broadband services. Compact Macro consolidates the baseband, radio and antenna into a single, lightweight form factor for swift and easy installation. Samsung’s mmWave technology allows the operator to access the expansive bandwidth in the 28GHz and 39GHz bands, which support ultra-high speeds and low latency. By leveraging Samsung’s advanced solutions, UScellular could rapidly enhance the 5G performance through multi-gigabit speeds.</p>

<p>Samsung is also offering its notable and widely used vRAN solution with Central Unit functionality to support UScellular’s virtualized network. Samsung’s vRAN provides the operator with additional bandwidth and advanced intelligence capabilities including energy saving features, while enabling the company to quickly scale capacity and efficiently deploy advanced services. This network advancement highlights UScellular’s commitment to leading 5G innovation.</p>

																<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Samsung Electronics today announced that it successfully demonstrated improved Wi-Fi service in a fast-moving subway train using its 5G mmWave solution as a backhaul in Seoul, Korea. The trial demonstrated how the use of 5G mmWave can significantly boost legacy Wi-Fi service in a crowded, public setting.</p>
<p>Samsung reached Wi-Fi downlink speeds of 1.8Gbps using a Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra on a moving subway train in the trial. This speed is approximately 25 times faster than the current average speed of 71Mbps on Seoul’s subway lines. The use of Samsung’s 5G <a href="https://www.samsung.com/global/business/networks/products/radio-access/access-unit" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Compact Macro</a> helped boost Wi-Fi data speeds by leveraging the ultra-high capacity of 5G mmWave spectrum as a backhaul.</p>
<p>This trial took place in parts of Seoul Metro, covering five stations on the subway line circulating through major downtown areas. The enhanced Wi-Fi service was powered by Samsung’s 5G mmWave Compact Macro, installed along the railways and utilizing 800MHz in the 28GHz spectrum band.</p>
<p>In addition to delivering faster Wi-Fi speeds, the wide bandwidth of mmWave enables exceptional mobile experience on smartphones and tablets in hotspots, such as sports stadiums and shopping malls. 5G use cases have expanded to various business areas including public transportation, such as high-speed trains, buses, and more.</p>

<p>Samsung’s Compact Macro brings together a baseband unit, radio and antenna in a single form factor. This compact and lightweight solution can be easily installed on the sides of the buildings as well as on utility poles for a swift buildout of 5G networks. Samsung’s Compact Macro is <a href="https://news.samsung.com/global/samsung-advances-network-security-leadership-achieving-first-common-criteria-certification-for-5g-solutions-in-north-america" target="_blank" rel="noopener">the first 5G product to be listed</a> on the U.S. National Information Assurance Partnership (NIAP) Product Compliant List (PCL) and the Canadian Centre for Cyber Security’s Certified Product List.</p>

																<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Samsung Electronics today announced that the company will conduct Australia’s first 5G virtualized RAN (vRAN) trial on 26GHz, using integrated mmWave solution, for mobile and fixed wireless services with TPG Telecom. In the trial, which is the first of its kind in the nation, Samsung will place its <a href="https://www.samsung.com/global/business/networks/products/radio-access/virtualized-ran/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">vRAN</a> solution in TPG Telecom’s brand new Innovation Lab in Glebe, NSW. Additionally, Samsung’s latest 5G mmWave product—<a href="https://www.samsung.com/global/business/networks/products/radio-access/access-unit/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Compact Macro</a>—will be deployed in the wider Glebe area.</p>
<p>The announcement follows the launch of Samsung’s Networks Business in Australia in April 2021, and since then, the company has been exploring the delivery of Samsung’s leading 5G mmWave technologies to the nation.</p>
<p>TPG Telecom, a leading mobile network operator in Australia, operates a number of leading mobile and internet brands in Australia including Vodafone. Recently, TPG Telecom announced its investment of AU$108 million to acquire spectrum in all available license areas in the 26GHz band – tripling its total spectrum holdings. With abundant mmWave spectrum, TPG Telecom will be able to offer high speed data services and immersive use cases for its mobile and home users. TPG Telecom’s extensive fiber assets combined with a network of small cells will enable the deployment of vRAN architecture.</p>
<p>For the trial, Samsung will provide its Compact Macro and vRAN solution. Samsung’s latest 5G Compact Macro brings together a baseband, radio and antenna in a single form-factor. This compact and lightweight solution can be easily installed on the sides of buildings, as well as on utility poles, for the swift build-out of 5G networks. Samsung’s industry-leading commercial vRAN solution is built on the company’s independently developed stack, and runs on commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) servers. As a leader in vRAN, Samsung has <a href="https://news.samsung.com/global/samsung-expands-5g-technology-leadership-with-fully-virtualized-commercial-5g-ran" target="_blank" rel="noopener">commercially deployed its vRAN solution in wide scale for global Tier 1 operators’ networks in markets outside of Australia</a><span>,</span> and recently <a href="https://news.samsung.com/global/samsung-achieves-industry-first-expands-virtualized-ran-capability-to-support-c-band-massive-mimo-radio" target="_blank" rel="noopener">expanded its capability to support 3.5GHz Massive MIMO radio</a><span>,</span> which many industry voices had said would be hard to support with vRAN. Moreover, Samsung’s 5G vRAN on mmWave, already commercially deployed in global markets, including Korea, Japan and the U.S, has the capacity to support multi-gigabit speeds, delivering IT technology efficiencies and deployment advantages, while offering transformational 5G mobile experiences.</p>

																<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Samsung Electronics and SK Telecom today announced a successful demonstration of how 5G technology can improve motor racing experiences for fans.</p>
<p>The demonstration, held at the ‘Korea International Circuit’ racetrack, was made possible by Samsung Networks’ end-to-end 5G mmWave solutions, including 5G New Radio (NR) base stations. The same equipment has been in commercial operation in the United States since the first half of this year.</p>
<p>While the racing car moved at approximately 130 miles per hour (210Km/hour) on the track, the trial verified the stable performance of live downloads, uploads and handovers between 5G cell sites on the racetrack. Download speeds reached up to 1Gbps, demonstrating the capacity for multi-gigabit downloads on a 5G device inside a racing car, using 200MHz bandwidth of 28GHz spectrum.</p>

<p>5G’s high speeds, instantaneous communications, and seamless handovers allow for a more effective and safer way to transfer video to and from cars accelerating up to 130 miles per hour (200~370Km/hour.) The companies were able to use this live video streaming capability to broadcast multiple views of the race in real time over SK Telecom’s live broadcasting solution, T Live Caster 5G.</p>
<p>The test showed that the mmWave technology can unlock the full potential of 5G, for delivering innovative uses cases and business models, such as new entertainment experiences in motor sport events. For example, cameras built into the cars’ cockpits will be able to stream real-time video data from each car over 5G wireless links, allowing viewers to enjoy vivid scenes of the race from the driver’s point of view. Through VR, AR and 360 degree video streams, racing fans will be able to enjoy the immersive experience of feeling as if they are inside an actual moving car.</p>

This trial is a great example of taking a user experience and the racing industry to new heights.”</p>

<p>In September 2017, Samsung achieved the world’s first 5G handover at 118 miles per hour (190Km/hour) and 1Gbps speed download in a vehicle moving at 127 miles per hour (205Km/hour) in Korea (<a href="https://www.samsung.com/global/business/networks/insights/press-release/kddi-and-samsung-break-track-record-in-high-speed-5g-mobility-test/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Link</a>). Based on these achievements, Samsung has advanced network innovation through a comprehensive series of real-world use cases powered by 5G in partnership with global operators, helping to overcome the limits of legacy technology.</p>
