Samsung Electronics announced that its latest robot vacuum cleaner, the Bespoke AI Jet Bot Steam Ultra,1 as well as the Bespoke AI Refrigerator,2 have been granted the BSI IT Security Label. This milestone follows the mutual recognition arrangement (MRA) signed between the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA) and Germany’s Federal Office for Information Security (BSI).

The MRA enables mutual recognition of cybersecurity evaluation results for labeled products, helping companies accelerate market access while ensuring a high level of trust across borders. Through this arrangement, Samsung’s products that pass KISA’s Certification of IoT Cybersecurity (CIC) could be granted equivalent recognition under BSI’s labelling scheme.

“We are honored to be the first to be mutually-recognized under the Korea-Germany MRA,” said Jeong Seung Moon, Executive Vice President and Head of the R&D Team for the Digital Appliances Business at Samsung Electronics. “We will continue to prioritize robust IoT security so that users can enjoy the convenience of AI-powered home appliances with greater confidence.”

At IFA 2025 in Berlin, KISA and the BSI held a ceremony to celebrate the newly labeled products and the official signing of the MRA. The ceremony took place at the BSI booth at IFA, with BSI, KISA and Samsung DA’s key representative.

KISA Certification of IoT Cybersecurity (CIC)

CIC evaluates products in categories such as robot vacuums, smart home cameras and connected appliances, assigning one of three levels — Lite, Basic or Standard — based on their ability to protect against digital threats.

Last year, Samsung became the first company to earn the highest “Standard” grade from KISA for its robot vacuum cleaner.3 And as of now, it remains the only brand to hold the grade.

The new robot vacuum cleaner4 and refrigerators5 recently received the “Standard” grade in CIC, which is a designation reserved for devices equipped to withstand advanced hacking attempts.

Enhanced Security for Connected Homes

The robot vacuum cleaner and refrigerators feature a range of enhanced security technologies, enabling safer and smarter home automation. In addition to Samsung Knox, which protects devices against malware and external threats, the model brings:

Knox Matrix Trust Chain — monitors the security status of all interconnected SmartThings devices to detect and prevent potential breaches.6

Knox Vault — stores sensitive user data, such as personal information and authentication credentials, in a physically isolated secure chip.7

With these solutions, users can make use of AI features like AI Object Recognition8 of Bespoke AI Jet Bot Steam Ultra and SmartThings9 connectivity with trust, since their privacy and device security are rigorously protected.

Samsung showcased both products, along with other innovations in AI and home appliance connectivity, at IFA 2025 in Berlin.

Samsung Electronics today announced that Samsung Knox Native Solution, a platform that enables fast and easily accessible secure communications tailored for governmental authorities and enterprises, has received certification from the Bundesamt für Sicherheit in der Informationstechnik (BSI), also known as the German Federal Office for Information Security. Developed in close collaboration with the BSI, the Knox Native Solution creates a dedicated, secure environment on mobile devices, delivering fortified security to meet extremely rigorous requirements. With certifications from numerous government bodies worldwide — including Australia, Canada, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and the United States — Samsung continues to establish itself as a global leader in cybersecurity solutions.

Achieving official recognition for government use from a leading European security authority marks a significant milestone for the Knox Native Solution and reinforces Samsung’s trusted role in delivering secure, integrated solutions that meet the high standards for government and enterprise use. This certification also reinforces Knox Native Solution as a globally relevant model for organizations, including in key industries like energy infrastructure or public transportation, or those seeking robust, reliable and ready-to-deploy security for optimized mobile communications.

Security Developed in Collaboration With the BSI

Previously, achieving government-grade secure mobile communication on Android-based devices often required the use of external SD cards, additional software and multiple PINs, resulting in a cumbersome manual process with high costs and prolonged approval cycles for security solutions. Any updates to third-party security solutions would require the entire device to undergo re-certification, adding further complexity to the process. To address these challenges, Samsung collaborated with the BSI, which is recognized as the leading authority for security policies and certifications across Europe and key global industries. Together, they developed a pre-configured, government-grade setup that aligns with Germany’s rigorous security standards and sets the standard for secure devices and solutions worldwide.

This innovative platform incorporates advanced features, including the embedded Secure Element (eSE),1 which integrates the BSI Java Card Applet and is certified at the industry-leading Common Criteria Evaluation Assurance Level (CC EAL) 6+. With eSE, Knox Native Solution establishes a dedicated security zone within the device, helping to ensure data integrity, real-time threat protection and encrypted storage for sensitive communication channels. This platform doesn’t require third-party applications or add-ons, enabling a tamper-resistant security environment for core functions like email, calendar and contacts — all built directly into the device.

Seamless and Secure Mobile Experiences

Knox Native Solution continues to cement the new industry standard for mobile security, making Samsung Galaxy devices the first within the Android ecosystem to successfully meet the strict security standards of the BSI utilizing eSE. Knox Native Solution enables organizations to deploy secure devices with minimal steps, eliminating the need for complex setups while ensuring high security standards. Using Samsung Knox’s built-in protections for data-at-rest, data-in-use and data-in-transit, this solution preserves a streamlined user experience without compromising security. A single PIN activation covers a wide range of work scenarios, and company-owned apps integrate seamlessly through the Knox Native Solution SDK, making advanced security feel effortless for users and administrators alike.

Knox Native Solution reimagines security evaluation processes on Samsung Galaxy devices for government and enterprise in Germany, requiring only newly updated apps to be reviewed and approved — empowering users with cost-efficient and optimized mobile solutions. By simplifying development and evaluation with pre-approved security features, Knox Native Solution enables even large device fleets with high security standards to be managed efficiently through Knox Suite, providing enterprises with centralized control over their security needs. As an established and trusted provider of secure mobile solutions to German government entities, Samsung remains committed to delivering robust and seamless mobile security for organizations worldwide.

Continued Trust in a Hyper-Connected World

This BSI certification stands as a testament to Samsung’s ability to meet top-tier government standards, exemplifying how enterprises and governments around the world can adopt secure, integrated mobile solutions. Building on this success in Germany, Samsung plans to expand the availability of Knox Native Solution to other regions, reinforcing its role as a global leader in secure, hyperconnected mobile ecosystems.

“We are honored to receive this certification from the BSI as proof of our commitment to meeting rigorous security standards and providing fortified mobile security solutions to a growing list of governments and enterprises worldwide,” said Tuncay Sandikci, Director of MX B2B at Samsung Electronics Germany. “In an increasingly hyperconnected world, we remain dedicated to empowering all users with secure, privacy-driven experiences that put transparency and user choice at the forefront.”

For more information about Samsung Knox, please visit samsungknox.com.

1 Galaxy S23 (all models), Galaxy S24 (all models), Galaxy Tab S8+ (German only) and Galaxy XCover6 Pro include the embedded Secure Element (eSE). Samsung plans to use eSE embedded devices for approved Knox Matrix security features and to continue to expand to additional models in the future.

Samsung Electronics today announced that its Device Solutions (DS) Division attained the ISO 22301 Certificate, the international standard for Business Continuity Management System (BCMS). The ISO 22301, awarded to Samsung by the British Standards Institution (BSI), certifies that an organization’s ability to resume its business after a crisis, or its resilience, meets global standards.

“We will continue to enhance our business resilience and maintain a robust business continuity management system to handle not only conventional crises but also newly emerging issues such as global supply chain disturbance,” said Taeyang Yoon, Executive Vice President and Chief Safety Officer (CSO) of DS Division at Samsung Electronics. “Through these efforts, our customers can rely on our leading semiconductor technology even in the most unexpected circumstances.”

A BCMS helps organizations secure business continuity by systematically laying out the steps to resume their business after an unexpected crisis or disaster. The system not only deals with the initial emergency response but also focuses on recovering and resuming its core business activities in the shortest possible timeframe. The ISO 22301 is the international standard for BCMS, representing the highest level of commitment to business continuity and disaster preparedness.

Samsung Electronics worked to advance its BCMS for Hwaseong Campus to meet global standards, in order to better deal with the rapidly changing global environment as well as enhancing the level of trust between Samsung and its customers. As part of this process, Samsung evaluated the risks that could affect its chip business and prepared for them through precautionary exercises such as an emergency drill.

Having received global recognition of its business resilience with the ISO 22301 certification, customer confidence in Samsung is expected to grow. Samsung is planning to attain ISO 22301 certifications for its other semiconductor campuses in Korea and abroad from this year.

“Samsung showed strong will in having a robust business continuity management system, and displayed world-class crisis monitoring and response capabilities,” said SeongHwan Lim, Chief Operating Officer of BSI Korea.

Today, Samsung Electronics, the German Federal Office for Information Security (BSI), Bundesdruckerei (bdr) and Deutsche Telekom Security GmbH announced Germany’s National electronic ID will be available on selected Samsung Galaxy smartphones when the eID solution becomes available later this year. As part of a long-term collaboration with an alliance of German government bodies to deliver upon its eGovernment initiative, Samsung partnered with the BSI, bdr and Telekom Security to develop a hardware-based security architecture that allows citizens to securely store their National ID on their smartphone as an eID. Once enrolled, their eID is transferred to a secure location on their phone.

Protecting What is Valuable to Users

Users expect their information to be protected. It is therefore essential to ensure that the eID mobile solution meets the strict security requirements of the federal government and keeps German citizens’ information safe. To do so, all four partners developed a holistic security architecture centered around the foundation of smartphone security – the hardware. Thanks to a highly secure chip built directly into the phone, information can be stored locally on the device and gives users full control over their data.

“In addition to the identity card, almost every citizen in Germany owns a smartphone. Thanks to the OPTIMOS project and in cooperation with Samsung and Deutsche Telekom Security, we now have the chance to combine the high level of trust in the physical document with the user-friendliness of the smartphone,” says Dr. Stefan Hofschen, CEO of Bundesdruckerei. “We are thus creating the basis to ensure sovereignty and trust in a world that is becoming increasingly ‘digital’ and ‘mobile’. In the future, digital sovereign identities and authorizations can be used and managed by citizens in a self-determined manner via the app provided by bdr for this purpose”.

An Open Security Platform

This new mobile eID solution was created as part of the OPTIMOS 2.0 project, whose goal is to create an open ecosystem that provides the technology and infrastructure for secure mobile authentication. As such, it was important for all partners to make sure that this new security architecture would be open to many identity service providers.

“The more we digitalize our daily lives, the more important it is to protect our digital identity. At BSI, we develop, promote and certify eID solutions and technologies designed to protect people’s digital identity. As part of the OPTIMOS 2.0 project, our role was to standardize the necessary components, interfaces and processes so that the technology developed would meet the high security standards and be available to as many end users as possible,” said Arne Schönbohm, President of the German Federal Office for Information Security.

To achieve this goal of creating an open ecosystem, Samsung made the Software Development Kit (SDK) for its embedded Secure Element (eSE) available to third parties.1 This will enable service providers and app developers to create applets for Trusted Service Manager (TSM) that can be loaded into the secure chipset-based platform. As a result, applications and services will be able to work seamlessly with the eID program and German citizens can enjoy them with peace of mind, knowing their information will be protected.

“Together with Samsung and Bundesdruckerei, we created a comprehensive ecosystem for secure digital authentication. This uses the trusted secure elements of smartphones for storing forgery-proof identity information. Our newly developed TSM system is used for the transport of the identities, data storage management and ultimately lifecycle management of each eID, which provides the basis for a multitude of other secure applications,” says Thomas Fetten, CEO of Deutsche Telekom Security GmbH.

The Galaxy S20 Will Be the First Device to Comply With the New Security Requirements

The Samsung Galaxy S20 lineup, including the Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20+ and Galaxy S20 Ultra, will be the first smartphone to comply with the BSI’s eID security framework for sovereign use.2 Thanks to the security embedded in Samsung’s Galaxy S20, the eID solution offers a “Substantial” level of assurance for secure and seamless electronic interactions under the EU eIDAS Regulation.3 This regulation was designed to ensure EU citizens can use their national eID across borders and helps prevent misuse or alteration of their government-issued IDs.

The Galaxy S20 lineup offers the highest level of encryption available, as illustrated by the Common Criteria Evaluation Assurance Level (CC EAL) 6+4 it recently received. It is the latest Samsung device to feature Samsung’s industry-leading embedded Secure Element (eSE) with other Samsung smartphones to follow. The eSE securely stores sensitive data on the device like credit card information, documents and keys and isolates them for maximum protection. Acting as a safe, a separate secure processor provides an extra layer of security designed to defend against hardware attacks and makes it difficult to access and copy information stored on the device.

“We’re incredibly proud that our Galaxy S20 series was the first line of mobile devices to meet such high security standards set out by the BSI. We always strive to offer the highest level of protection possible for our users. As we continue to move towards digitization, our goal is to ensure that mobile users around the world can enjoy these new services with true peace of mind, knowing that we’ll keep them safe,” said Daniel Ahn, Corporate SVP and Head of Security Team at Mobile Communications Business, Samsung Electronics.

What’s Next For Mobile eID?

This is only the beginning. Similar to contactless payments a few years ago, consumers will quickly realize the benefits of having key credentials including their driver’s license, national health insurance cards, or even their car and apartment keys available on their mobile phone, securely stored at all times. Soon, they may also be able to remotely verify their identity to access and send confidential medical records, open a bank account, or vote using their smartphone.

How Can I Enroll?5

The eID app will be available to German citizens using Samsung’s Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20+ and Galaxy S20 Ultra later this year. After downloading and installing the Mobile ID application distributed by Bundesdruckerei from Play Store, Galaxy S20 owners can tap their Near Field Communications (NFC) enabled National ID card on the back of their phone to verify their identity and get started. Once verified, the mobile eID will be stored securely on the smartphone and can be used to open a bank account, use eGovernment services and more.6
