Samsung Electronics employees across the U.S. and Canada were not at their desks, in meetings, or traveling for business on Friday, October 16. Instead, they were in soup kitchens, school gyms, gardens and dozens of other locations, working with more than 50 nonprofits to benefit local communities.

“It puts things into perspective… when you see how much fun and how much joy that a day like this brings to these special needs kids,” said Samsung employee Gregory Maugeri. Gregory, along with other Samsung colleagues, helped put on a play with Only Make Believe, a non-profit organization that aims to give joy and inspiration to sick children through interactive theater in hospitals and care facilities.

That joy was the resounding theme throughout Samsung’s third Day of Service. A total of 4,200 employees contributed nearly 17,000 hours of community service through events designed to uplift and enrich the communities where employees live and work. Samsung employees have also donated countless hours of community service through its Hope for Children initiatives. In addition, the company has donated more than $46 million over the years—underscoring its commitment to making the world a better place for future generations.

Samsung colleagues in Canada also went out into their local communities to lend a helping hand to those in need.

“We really appreciate the investment Samsung has given,” said Justin Cheung who helped Youth without Shelter in Ontario to renovate its multi-purpose room.

Investing in underserved communities and communities where Samsung does business is a core company value that Gregory Lee, President and CEO of Samsung Electronics North America, lives. He has participated in all three Days of Service over which the company has contributed nearly 45,000 service hours since October 2014.

“One thing is how much we give in terms of quantity,” said Lee, “but also it’s the quality of our giving and how deeply we’re engaged, how much we care. Those things make a big difference.”

Some of the differences Samsung makes on this day and throughout the year can be seen in the photos below. For video snapshots from the day, please click here.

5D Limb Vol. — Semi-automatically provides volume measurements of upper arm or thigh of a fetus which can be used to calculate an accurate estimation of fetal weight and nutritional status.

5D CNS+ — Provides axial, sagittal, and coronal views of fetal brain in nine planes by automatic measurement of biometry, following the international screening guidelines by ISUOG for fetal brain.

More Clarity in Assessing Fetus

Crystal Vue — An advanced volume rendering technology which enables users to assess detailed information of internal and external structures of fetus by an intuitive 3D/4D visualization, providing increased diagnostic confidence.

“We have been impressed by the images we have obtained both in early pregnancy and when we have examined ovarian masses with Crystal Vue. We seem to be getting novel information,” said Professor Tom Bourne, research team leader in the Department of Surgery & Cancer within the Faculty of Medicine at Imperial College in the U.K. “We are currently carrying out clinical trials to see how this new technique impacts on diagnostic performance.”
