However, if you are one of those people who feel compelled to find out, keep calm and read on. We stopped by at the Samsung LSI exhibition for CES 2014 to bring you an easy guide to one of Samsung’s many exclusive technologies, the Exynos 5 Octa Processor.

The Exynos 5 Octa Processor

Basically a processor is the piece that is responsible for executing the task you desire to perform on your device. Exynos 5 Octa is an application processor that features eight CPU cores: 4 big cores called Cortex-A15 and 4 little cores called Cortex-A7. This Exynos 5 Octa processor with 8 cores takes care of tasks such as web browsing, social messaging, mobile gaming and more based on the computational intensity of a given task.

Why it is More Powerful and Efficient (big.LITTLE Technology and HMP)

The word ‘Octa’ in the Exynos 5 Octa processor represents its 8 cores. There are four big (Cortex-A15) cores for heavy tasks, such as graphic oriented mobile gaming or HD movie playback. The four little (Cortex-A7) cores are for light tasks, such as web browsing or social messaging. Having two different kinds of cores, performance oriented cores and power efficiency oriented cores, is the processing technology called the ‘big.LITTLE Technology.’

However, big.LITTLE technology has been implemented by some other companies too. What differentiates the Exynos 5 Octa processor is its Heterogeneous Multi-Processing (HMP) capability. HMP is the most powerful used model for ARM^®   big.LITTLE technology, as it enables the use of all physical cores at the same time by assigning tasks to appropriate cores according to the their characteristics.

For a better understanding of this technology, let’s compare the conventional big.LITTLE, or the ‘Cluster Migration’ solution, to Exynos 5 Octa’s ‘Heterogeneous Multi Processing’ big.LTTLE technology. Let’s just say the group of 4 big cores is called the big cluster and group of 4 little cores is called the little cluster. Conventional big.LITTLE architecture would assign all tasks to one cluster even if the power and performance requirement of all tasks is not the same, which results in the limitation in the flexibility, power consumption and performance efficiency of the device.

HMP takes this ‘limitation’ out of the conventional big.LITTLE architecture. Because HMP uses all 8 cores at the same time, the processor is able to assess the individual tasks’ characteristics, and assign each task to the right core. Therefore all of the cores are able to work independently instead of the whole cluster being activated at a time, which maximizes performance.

For example, Exynos 5 Octa core can run 1 big core and 2 little cores at a same time for a given task, where other conventional big.LITTLE architecture has to run either big cluster of 4 big cores or little cluster of 4 little cores. Therefore, Exynos 5 Octa maximizes both performance (big cores) and power efficiency (little cores).

Widcon Technology for Faster Data Transfer & Longer Battery Life

For a tablet to have awesome performance, it needs a high performance CPU, which we just talked about, and high memory bandwidth for fast processing and low power consumption for long battery life. Samsung’s answer to that is its exclusive Widcon technology of Exynos 5 Octa.

Widcon Technology

Widcon technology’s widest memory bandwidth and lower power consumption are harder to explain because this actually has to do with the configuration/structure of the Exynos 5 Octa itself. Here is a very simplified explanation.

Basically, Widcon technology facilitates the movement of data. As a result of increase in memory bandwidth, data transfer becomes 30% faster data transfer.

For conventional AP solution, data between the DRAM and mobile processor must travel through wires between each other. Widcon Technology redesigned this process so that the data can travel directly, thus efficiently, to where it needs go; instead of having to go around and through the circuit board. As you can see on the image above, Samsung’s innovative TSV (Through Silicon Via) technology (indicated between the DRAM and mobile processor) is the key to this technology. This results in an increased memory bandwidth of up to 17 GB/s – a 2.1 GB/s gain over previous systems.

Consequently, the higher bandwidth allows the application processor to perform at maximum levels with low clock speed, resulting in up to 20 percent lower power consumption (in comparison to Exynos 5 Octa(5420) with LPDDR3 12.8GB/s memory bandwidth.)

GPGPU (General Purpose computing by GPU) for High Quality Display

With the release of the 12.2” inch Galaxy NotePRO and Galaxy TabPRO, we have seen that people are interested in portable large size tablets. Naturally, they want great quality display on their big screen.

What also makes Exynos 5 Octa special is its general purpose graphics processing unit, GPGPU. Essentially, GPU is the unit that facilitates the process of memory becoming an image. Therefore, traditionally, GPU mainly computes graphics; even though it could be more effective than the CPU when processing certain type of data. However, Exynos 5 Octa’s GPGPU, also known as GPU compute technology, can boost the performance of the main processor (CPU) for certain applications where the GPU’s ability can be more effective.

ARM^®  experts who developed the GPGPU of the Exynos 5 Octa said, “The result is improved performance and energy-efficiency and a more efficient use of the system as a whole, making computational photography, computer vision, advanced imaging, point-of-interest extraction and augmented reality possible because of the extended processing capacity.”

Therefore, the GPGPU can handle workload more efficiently, which results in increase of performance and energy efficiency of the Exynos 5 Octa, especially when it comes to graphics. For example, in comparison its previous version, Exynos 5 Octa’s GPU is 2.3 times faster in 3D graphic processing.

So there you have it – big.LITTLE HMP, Widcon and GPGPU – the behind the scenes look at some of the technology that makes your new tech gadgets even faster and more efficient. So, whenever someone asks you why your new Galaxy TabPRO or Galaxy NotePRO is better, just tell them the four secret words, Exynos 5 Octa Processor.

It is always fun when you see a concept come to reality. We are already familiar with Samsung’s concept of ‘Smart Home’ from CES 2013 and IFA 2013. At this year’s CES in Las Vegas, Samsung finally showcased the commercialized Samsung Smart Home. Samsung Smart Home will be available starting from sometime in the beginning of this year, depending on the region.

Samsung Smart Home is a solution that allows your in-house electronic devices to communicate with each other for an overall cooler and more convenient life. Users can monitor and control various devices through a unified mobile app.

Samsung Smart Home Features       

Samsung Smart Home is not just focused on a specific area, such as security, but rather focused on having a broad and complete strategy to it, making Samsung the first company to take this approach.

After viewing the Samsung Smart Home showcase at CES 2014, you realize that Samsung Smart Home is not about delegation or automation of an activity. It is about making the activity more efficient and fun.

For example, imagine yourself in a kitchen ready to cook for yourself. Smart Home can play your favorite cooking music as background music, tell you what you can cook with what you have in your refrigerator and providing the right air circulation, so that your house stays fresh. Mostly importantly, all these are happening as you begin to cook without having to turn on your TV, check the fridge or set up your air conditioner. Now, that is pretty cool.

Samsung Smart Home enhancing our daily experience is great, but the fact that it will give people some extra time could make a lifestyle even cooler. Because Smart Home is not about executing a specific task and about helping us do tasks more efficiently, we will have more time to do whatever we want, such as watching TV or playing video games.

The fact is, no matter what your occupation is, you have chores to do at home. After working hard and late, when you come back home, the last thing you want to do is your chores; you want do something fun or relaxing. Not your laundry, washing dishes or cleaning your house. So if something like laundry or vacuuming could be done before you come back from work, you have more time to do what you enjoy.

The Simplicity of Samsung Smart Home

First of all, design of the app looked very ‘premium’ and ‘high tech’ but pretty simple and straight forward. However, my concern was not about how the app looks, instead how easy is it to use? Since it uses WiFi, what if someone hacks in and mess around with your home appliances? How long and thorough do I have to read the manual to set everything up? So I showed my skepticism, as nicely as possible, to one of the representatives of Samsung Smart Home.

If you think about it my concerns are a legitimate concern. Security (of the platform) is extremely important; each device needs to understand the information that they communicate. Each device should speak the same language under the same rules. If they don’t, they simply will not be able to communicate with each other. Second, Smart Home should be easy to use. Obviously, for people like me, installing or setting up a lot of electronics could be overwhelming.

But obviously, people at Samsung already have thought about that. 

Long story short, all you need to know to setup your devices for the Samsung Smart Home is your WiFi password and everything is taken care of. Samsung reduces the process to three steps after the product has been powered on. Samsung Smart Home has simplified the process to 3 steps and all the necessary security checks are automatically executed within the 3 steps. Therefore, users can enjoy their Smart Home as quickly and securely as possible. Samsung Smart Home is really easy to use.

Unlike other devices, home appliances are a purchase for the whole family. Consequently, Samsung Smart Home needs to be a service for the whole family as well. Samsung Smart Home can not only make the home appliances beneficial to the whole family, but it also can give more longevity to each home appliance, because their roles can be customized according to the family’s and each member’s lifestyle and preferences.

What happened to the Galaxy 11? We haven’t heard anything about the Galaxy 11 since the announce of its complete roster about a month ago. Where are they and what are they doing? They have the fate of our planet on their shoulder, we have the right to know what they are up to!

Guess what!, Samsung Tomorrow found them at the Galaxy Studio in Las Vegas Convention Center where CES 2014 is happening… well, we found the life-size cardboard display versions of them. To be honest, we found it somewhat relieving to know that they aren’t in Las Vegas because we rather have them save time and energy to practice so that we can maintain our foot on this planet.

Since we were already at the Galaxy studio we decided to check it out. The Galaxy Studio was definitely a happening place. People were waiting in lines to get their photo printed on the Galaxy 11 T-shirt using a Galaxy Note 10.1 and Galaxy Gear, taking pictures with the life-size cardboard display versions of Galaxy 11 and checking out the display and presentation of Galaxy Note 3, Galaxy Gear, Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition, Galaxy S4. and Galaxy S4 Zoom.

We also met up with some people and talked about some football and CES 2014.

At the CES 2014, among many products that are being displayed at the Samsung booth, there is one product that stands out in terms of size and its visual, the World’s First, Largest and Most Curved 105” Curved UHD TV. As the description suggest, no one has really seen anything like it before, which is also why it is catching a lot of attention. The strange thing is, as I am staring at people gazing at the Curved 105” Curved UHD TV, I cannot help to get these lyrics by LL Cool J out of my mind.

“Don’t call it a comeback,I’ve been here for years…”

The Repositioning

In my personal opinion, TVs are interesting product; not because they are cool looking, but in terms of their role in our lives. In terms of content viewing, due to the rapid advancement in mobile technology, services of mobile products and TVs have overlapped to some extent. Considering the trend of individualization of product usage, this could seem like a matter of survival for a TV. However, the Samsung TV products at CES2014 seem to suggest that the TV will not only survive, but also will redefine itself as a major gadget of our lives.

The Size

One obvious way that TVs are redefining themselves is the size of their display. At this point, people are probably wondering, “How big are TVs going to get?”That we just don’t know. However, what we know is that we are OK with TVs getting bigger because TVs, especially with resolutions becoming increasingly better, can pull it off! TVs are probably one of the only products where it makes sense to have an ultra-big display. 

There are a few reasons for this “bigger is better” phenomenon. First up, a television is a stationary product for group of people to watch and share an experience. Think of family movie night, or watching a New Years Day TV marathon with friends. This group viewing makes the large size better, which is different than mobile phones or tablets.

However, most importantly, TVs can pull their large size because they have the technology to support the display size. For example, Samsung at CES 2014 unveiled the World’s First, Largest and Most Curved 105” Curved UHD TV and the World’s Biggest 110-inch UHD TV. Yes, they are both the world’s largest, but the fact is that they are both UHD TVs. The 105” Curved UHD TV has 11 million pixels (5120X2160) screen resolution and the 110-inch UHD TV has 800-megapixel display. This means that it will be extremely challenging for human eyes to detect the individual pixels on TVs, even though they have 105”& 110” screens.

For the people who are worried about the lack of UHD content available, here is another thing these TVs can both offer, Quadmatic Picture Engine. Quadmatic Picture Engine upgrades HD contents to UHD contents via ‘upscaling’ in 4 steps. First, it analyzes the original image’s data. Then it detects and deletes the “noise” from the original image.  Then it upscales the image and reconfigures the detail. 

This means that not only do Samsung TVs have the ability to display UHD contents, but they also have the technology to convert non-UHD content to near-UHD content. If you have watched TV on a big screen before, you know that there wouldn’t be that many people who would refuse a greater resolution on a bigger screen.

The Humanized TV

TVs have been able to evolve and differentiate themselves by being able to recognize human behavior better than ever. TVs can do things many other tech gadgets can’t do or at least not on the same level yet.

The Smart TVs at the CES 2014 have many cool features and functions, but one of the coolest functions is the ‘voice search feature’ and the ‘finger gesture’ functions. With the voice search feature, you can literally just say the number of the channel you want to watch and the TV will recognize your voice and obey your command; not to mention that you can also execute a website or app.

Another really cool feature is the ‘finger gesture’ function. Previously Samsung Smart TVs already had featured motion control using gestures, however, introduction of ‘finger gesture’ brought the motion controlling to a whole different level. You can change the TV channel, adjust the volume, find and select what you want to watch just by using your finger movements. You can also go back to the previous screen and stop the video by motioning their finger counter clockwise.

Alright, so let’s recap on what the TV can do now. We already know that there is a built in Camera which can project the ‘user’ through the TV screen of the users or different user in real time and recognize motions. So the built in camera works like human eyes. Voice Recognition works as human ears. TVs can already speak through speakers, so that can be compared to human mouth. Therefore, TVs have eyes, ears, and mouth; only thing that is missing from human facial feature is the nose.

The fact that TVs have become humanized means one thing; that humans can interact with TVs. This is a significant difference to the conventional way of using of TVs; where people used to solely consume information from TV. The technology to recognize human behavior has vastly improved the relationship between humans and TV.

The Interactivity

Let’s talk about the TVs at the Samsung booth at CES 2014. Talking about the quality of display and viewing experience might be needless, because it is pretty self-explanatory. I think there is something else apart from conventional TVs, the interactivity.

Here is a hypothetical situation for Curved OLED TV user.

It’s the last NBA game for your fantasy league. You couldn’t make it to the finale party, so you have to watch it at home alone. This game will decide if you win the league or not, so you must keep an eye on the stats at all time, but you also don’t want to miss out on any plays. So you open up a Stat Tracker app from Samsung Hub on your Curved OLED TV and watch the game simultaneously with the Multi View feature. It comes down to the last seconds, but once you know that you have just won the league, you must brag. You take a picture of yourself fully absorbing the victory and share it with your friend’s TV and live stream yourself doing your victory dance, like you are right next to him. Then your friend will get upset and watch something else on his Smart TV that is recommended adequately according to his mood by S Recommendation, or maybe he’ll just transmit a movie from his PC to the Curved OLED TV using ConnectShare.

Remember, this is all done by sitting down in front of a TV. The only time you have to move is to show off your victory dance to your friend who is ‘physically’ in a different place. The emphasis on the ‘physically’ is significant. Users are able to compensate for the ‘physical’ gap with the ability to ‘connect’ through the built-in WiFi& Bluetooth, which opened up a whole new world of possibilities for TVs.

TV used to be a very indirect mean of communication; all viewers could do was consume information. However, now we are able to communicate with TVs like they are humans. For example, they not only recognize our voice, but they also recognize our body language.

For instance, with the new Curved OLED TV, people can ask TV to search for information such as weather, stocks and sports while watching TV, then a pop-up window appears on the bottom of the page with search results. This is called the Voice Interaction service, which Samsung expanded to 23 countries.

Moreover, it can recognize our gestures. For example, with the 2014 Smart TV models, users can adjust the volume, find and select what they want to watch just by using their fingers. They can also go back to the previous screen and stop the video by motioning their finger counter clockwise. This is called, the ‘finger gesture’, which is a significant enhancement of the ‘gesture recognition.’

Closing Note

Here are two things we should think about when we look to the future of technology. First, how quickly TV has redefined itself and evolved within the category of the Smart TV. Second, how much more it can improve. For the first part, we can think about how TV became to have some similar functions as humans, such as vision (camera & gesture recognition), voice (voice recognition) and sound. For the second part, one thing we know that is coming soon is the availability of third party apps. At the CES 2014, Smart TV SDK 5.0 became available, which allows third party developers to develop apps specifically for Smart TV much easily. This would open up a whole new world for TV users, just like it did for mobile users.

No one can really predict the future, but one perk is for sure with the ever evolving Samsung Smart TVs. There will be much fewer awkward moments at the holiday family reunion, because TV will be entertaining everyone in the family.

While we are busy being lost in the tech, we tend to forget that the products are made by humans. Clearly, there are thousands of people have involved for each products that has been released.

Samsung unveiled its 85” U9B Bendable UHD TV at CES 2014 and announced that it will be available to people in the second half of 2014. Samsung’s 85” U9B Bendable UHD TV is the world’s first and largest UHD TV that transforms from a flat panel to a curved TV design with a touch of a button.

You probably have multiple social media accounts, so let me ask you a question. What kinds of photo do you see most frequently on your news feed? Exotic beaches, sunsets, architecture, food or babies? Although you might be tired of seeing the same things again and againon your feed, you have to admit that you also feel compelled to upload these types of photos on your own feed.  Deep down you’re waiting for friends to say how much better your shot is, right?

Is it though? To be completely honest, unless you are a professional photographer, your photo might be just as beautiful as your peers, but not superior to them. The reason for this is because you are taking similar photosand have similar  skill as your peers. So basically, it comes down to the hardware you are working with.

Live paintings are awesome. Too bad you can’t see them at an electronics show like CES 2014, right? NOT! At the Samsung booth you can. At the CES 2014, there was a guy who was painting enthusiastically on a five-foot figurine in deep concentration surrounded by group of people at the Samsung booth. Ladies and gentlemen we introduce, Buff Monster!

Couple days ago, we shared news that Samsung will be collaborating with Kidrobot, the world’s premier creator and dealer of limited edition art toys, signature apparel and lifestyle accessories, to showcase Galaxy mobile devices with unique designs. Buff Monster was one of the artists to join the collaboration. So what did we do about it? Of course we went after him and asked some monster-ish questions!

Samsung Tomorrow: What’s up with the cartoonish monsters?

Buff Monster: Have you heard of the Garbage Pail Kids? It’s a collection of trading cards that came out back in 1985. You could say that I and my works have been heavily inspired by Garbage Pail Kids.

ST: How did you end up in the Samsung booth?

Buff Monster: I’ve been working with Kidrobot for a while and they told me that they will be collaborating with Samsung at the CES 2014. It knew it was going to be an awesome opportunity to emerge something analog like my work with advanced technology of Samsung. In some way, I believe it is the most complete form of reality.

ST: How was designing on the Samsung Galaxy Gear and the Galaxy Note 3 book cover?

Buff Monster: When I first took a look at the Galaxy Gear, it felt like it really didn’t need anything fancy or heavy design on it. Design-wise Galaxy Gear is very simple and clean. So I tried to not overwhelm the overall design of it. What I tried to do is add a little character and my passion to it.

As far as the book cover goes, I had some fun with it, metaphorically. When you see the book cover, you can see patterns of eyes. I knew that this book cover was going to be displayed at the CES 2014 and I knew many people were going to look at it. Therefore, I wanted the book cover to look at people too, thus the eyeball patterns. (chuckle)

Buff Monster has worked with Standard Hotel, Coke, Converse, Hello Kitty, MTV to name a few. Buff Monster was also in the Banksy Film – Exit Through The Gift Shop.

The question at the Samsung SMART Lounge is, “What’s Trending.” Actually, “What’s Trending” is the name of the daily, live and interactive show that is going on at the Samsung SMART Lounge. But really, so many things are happening at the lounge, we need to keep up.

“Is that even wearable?”

Since the 25th of September 2013, yes. That was the date when Galaxy Gear was launched in more than 140 countries. 5 months later, it is still ‘THE’ wearable. You don’t have to be in the tech industry to know that ‘Wearable’ has been one of the hottest topics lately.  There are many wearables out on the market, but why is Galaxy Gear has been the hottest among all the wearables? What can we expect from wearables in the future?

It is on the wrist!

At the CES2014 I’ve been spotting people sporting the Galaxy Gear pretty frequently. Then I looked at my wrist and thought “why is Galaxy Gear on a wrist?” (and I also thought about me wanting one.) I mean, isn’t it interesting why it decided to place its first wearable on a wrist? Our engineers must have done tons of market research to come up with the decision. Although, I couldn’t get my hands on the research data or material, I could think of few reasons.

First, it is not overwhelming. Remember when mobile phones or smartphones were first introduced to the world? There were tons of debates and rejections to the idea having a portable communication device, such as its possible negative impact on humanity. However, considering the fact that wearable was a totally new concept, there was no major rejection to the idea of having a wearable tech device on the wrist. It is probably because people are already used to the idea wearing something on their wrist, such as watches and accessories.

Second, it is less commitment. Because Galaxy Gear is on the wrist, users can choose to look at it (or not look at it). Users can use the features and functions whenever they want. It is also less commitment in a sense that Galaxy Gear doesn’t interfere with most of user’s daily activities, such as running or working out. This is a very important perspective. It is not sexy to compensate features or functions with certain physical limitations. For example, people choose to wear accessories, such as watches, rings, necklaces, because it doesn’t limit them from doing any physical activities. I guess, many people wear sunglasses as an accessory, but, personally, as a person who has been wearing a pair of glasses since the age of 11, I am certainly aware of many situations where a pair of glasses is a not an attractive option. Pretty much used to ‘wearing’ things.

Fitness & Healthcare

It is no surprise that the one of the brightest future of wearables is at the ‘health’ area. Thanks to the work of engineers and scientist, we have been able to digitize humandata, such as heart rate, blood pressureand even muscle movements. Ever since we have advanced the technology to a point where we made this kind of information available instantly on demand, it was just a matter of time any individuals utilize it for their benefit. Then through wearable tech, human body became to be able to communicate with technology. A beginning of era of a complete real time customized fitness and healthcare.

Since the Galaxy S4, Samsung has been putting efforts on being ‘health conscious’ as we can see it on the S Health app. S Health could get you a comprehensive health check, such as measuring physical movements (pedometer), temperature and humidity, glucose meters and blood pressure. Not to mention that Samsung has partnered up with Cigna, a global health service organization, last year to expand the S health app even further. Therefore, it is easy to predict that oceans of advanced health related apps from Samsung and the third parties will come like a wave (if not already) in a very perceivable future.

However, we all know future has a lot more to offer than what we can predict and you can sense that from the CES 2014. For example, Samsung and BMW have collaborated to create a Samsung Galaxy Gear showcase specifically designed for the BMW i Remote application, which allows users to access key data of their vehicle. People can also talk to their Galaxy Gear to activate the navigation system, before you get hop into the car! Either way, wearables are going to be fun to wear.

On the Day 1 of the CES 2014, Samsung West Forum was held at the Venetian Hotel at Las Vegas. Samsung West Forum was a media roundtable on the sidelines of CES 2014 with journalists from various media channels to discuss Samsung’s investments and developments mostly on the software front, specifically from the perspective of three Samsung organizations based in Silicon Valley: Open Innovation Center (OIC), Media Solutions Center America (MSCA) and Samsung Design America (SDA). Here is what they are and how they are making their marks in Silicon Valley.

Open Innovation Center

Samsung’s Open Innovation Center drives software innovation by supporting startups and entrepreneurs through partnerships, acquisitions, early stage investments and building its own products through the Samsung Accelerator.

Media Solutions Center America

Samsung’s Media Solutions Center America is a Silicon Valley-based Samsung organization with a simple mission: to foster software platform innovation. MSCA focuses on two important priorities: Content Services and Developer Engagement.

Samsung Design America

Samsung Design America is an end-to-end product studio. SDA combine and integrate strategy, user experience, design, prototyping, and engineering. SDA work in multidisciplinary teams and our charter is to define what is next. SDA create new product categories and push boundaries.

Innovating in Silicon Valley

Regardless of people’s perspectives on innovation, one thing is true. Samsung has shown people things that they never have seen before. Bendable TV and Samsung Smart Home at the CES 2014 are just the few examples of that.

OIC’s ultimate goal is to capitalize on Samsung’s global footprint and scale to create products that connect all of Samsung devices and eventually building one of the world’s largest platforms for delivering content, apps, services and even advertising. The kind of pride or belief system they work with is very entrepreneur-like, which is very Valley minded. In fact, Samsung Design America is staffed with some of the greatest thinkers in the Bay Area in terms of services.

Samsung has been very supportive of this professionalism and passion of the Samsung’s divisions in Silicon Valley in the human resources and research and development, especially in the software area. For example, Samsung has over 65,000 employees in R&D, and over 35,000 of them are involved in software. For outside developers, Samsung has established innovation centers at the heart of software innovation in Silicon Valley and are providing the tools, funding and guidance required for them to create differentiated experiences on our products. In fact, Samsung has been in the valley for decades, including R&D centers for nearly 30 years.

As part of the result of its aggressive investment in R&D and talents, Samsung has able to deliver a rich history of innovation. For example, from beginning with semiconductors in 1970s to televisions in the 90s & 00s and most recently mobile phones, Samsung became the number 1 brand in those specific areas. Samsung also developed the first digital TV in 1998, first Blu-ray player in 2006 and the slimmest LED TV in 2010.

In the company’s early history our passion for innovation was focused on hardware and components, but over many years as technology has evolved, Samsung has also been evolving and investing more in software and design innovation

Media Solutions Center America has developed two of the most popular Samsung apps: Samsung WatchOn and Samsung Hub. Samsung WatchOn is a mobile app used by several million users for searching and playing contents from top providers on mobile devices and your Smart TV, which also functions as a smart remote control for any TV. Samsung Hub is a digital storefront for music, TV shows/movies, books, games, and more on your Samsung mobile device. Moreover, nearly 20 apps for Galaxy Gear and with Flipboard on Galaxy Note 3 and S4 were result of OIC driving innovation through various partnerships.

Combining the innovative technology of hardware and software has been very positive so far. For example, these kind of collaborations among OIC, MSCA and SDA in Silicon Valley (and the HQ) helped Samsung to ship 400 million mobile phones and 53 million TVs (nearly 2 per second) in 2012.

So what is the future of the Samsung West?

The Samsung’s divisions in Silicon Valley says that they will continue to grow their portfolio of content services in the entertainment and lifestyle categories in addition to working with developers to build great apps for Samsung devices. They also understand that they are uniquely positioned to push the boundaries because Samsung is the display company, the component maker, the first touch experience. However, most importantly, they want to create products that offer meaning experiences to our users, so they will continue to develop products that enable people to use technology in new ways, enable them to connect with the world around us in new ways.

At the CES 2014, the world’s first tablet 12.2-inch WQXGA Widescreen (16:10) display, 2560×1600 resolution with more than 4 million pixels was introduced. You’ve already heard its name, the Galaxy TabPRO. It claims itself to be the tablet that provides great viewing experience and productivity. The show has officially started. CES 2014 is on the move. There are thousands of exhibition booth at the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC) to show off the future of consumer electronics, which, by the way, Samsung just happens to have the biggest booth this year. Yeah, so obviously, CES is a big show. Consequently, once you get to the LVCC, you will not be able to avoid the overwhelming amount of tech fans, media coverage and bloggers shooting videos or taking pictures of the latest gadget. To be honest, unless you are physically in great shape, you can run out of stamina at times.

So where do you go when you want to take a break, get some snacks and use WiFi, especially if you are a blogger?

This place is called the Samsung SMART Lounge where bloggers, digital celebrities, and tech influencers can munch on some snacks, use free WiFi and event watch some shows. Famous for its casinos, shows, nightclubs and shopping, Las Vegas is busting at the seams with all manner of entertainment. Considering the nature of this blog, gambling and dancing the night away would be unlikely subjects. However, fans of electronic gadgets will find Las Vegas the perfect destination this time of year (and every year). CES, a global consumer electronics and consumer technology tradeshow, is coming to “Sin City”!

Over the course of this year’s CES, I will take you to the behind the scenes of the Samsung Electronics @ CES 2014 Las Vegas. Consider me a helpful friend, that special someone who knows someone who knows someone. Join me on my journey to the CES 2014.

From the airport

McCarran International Airport lets you know that you are in Las Vegas as soon as you step off the plane. It is not the most high-tech or newest international airport you’ll ever see, but once you see the slot machines and hear that generic old- school console-game midi sound, you know you have arrived at the right destination. However, the airport is not the place that you want to spend a lot of time in, but it serves as an adequate and efficient port of entry. With slot machines.

Last year, picking up the press badges was a mission. With the mammoth convention center, if you were a first timer of CES, no one would have blamed you for getting a little lost. However, this year CES made it easy on the press. (Yes, I am also considered press as fancy as it sounds.) People are able to pick up the press badges at the airport baggage claim!

However, this year you can pick it up at the airport, various hotels or at the Las Vegas Convention Center. A press badge might sound like a special pass that guarantees unlimited access to exclusive events, but to me the pass whispers, “You just clocked in!” Yay! What a badge of honor, right?

The Press Conference and the Las Vegas Convention Center

Once you get out the airport and make your way to the Las Vegas Convention Center, you get to soak in what the city has to offer. Alas, no Belagio, Caesars Palace, the Mirage or the Circus Circus for me, straight to the Samsung Press Conference. As I said, the moment I picked up the Press Pass was the moment I clocked in. After I unpacked (not Samsung Unpacked) my luggage, I went straight to the Mandalay Bay to check out the press conference and do some live blogging! I really hope you guys enjoyed that. The convention ballroom was full of people trying to take a peek at Samsung’s next move. To the world largest 110″ UHD TV to the new Samsung Galaxy NotePro and TabPro, it was definitely a show full of new products.

CES has said that it is expecting 150,000 attendees, including 35,000 international visitors. That is more than 7 times the capacity of Madison Square Garden in NYC. Las Vegas Convention Center is the biggest single-level convention center in the world. The total space equals 3,200,000 sq ft (300,000 m²) and it is estimated to host about 200, 000 people.

Get to the Samsung booth #12004!

Bring a comfortable pair of shoes. Approaching the convention center makes you realize how massive it really is. LVCC consists of three big buildings: North Hall, South Hall and the Central Hall. A Segway could come very handy. Actually, scratch that. Way too many people will be here. Anyway, the inside feels even more humongous.

The journey to the LVCC was entertaining, but the real epic journey will start as we kick off with the Media event on the 7^th of January. Located in the Grand Lobby of the Las Vegas Convention Center and open for the duration of the show, the Samsung Galaxy Studio takes mobile user engagement and interaction to the next level. The Samsung Galaxy Studio will be divided into 5 interactive Zones, each dedicated to bringing the Samsung Galaxy experience to life for visitors; these include:

Performance Zone

This section of the Galaxy Studio will showcase on-stage product presentation and eye-catching live performances to immediately capture attendee interest and raise excitement. Activities in the Performance Zone include:

Samsung Partners with BMW, Trek Bikes, Kidrobot and 3D Systems for CES 2014 Booth Engagement Experience

Interactive booth exhibits highlight the diverse possibilities of Samsung Galaxy Note 3, Gear and new NotePRO mobile device integration

Samsung Electronics opened key interactive Galaxy experiences at the Samsung booth, CES 2014. As mobile technology takes center stage at this year’s show, Samsung is taking its position as an industry leader to new heights with a series of interactive partner showcase displays at the booth. Galaxy mobile device partnerships with BMW, Trek Bikes, Kidrobot and 3D Systems will be on display at the Samsung booth #12004 in the Central Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center, January 7^th – 10^th.

BMW – Samsung Galaxy Gear with BMW i Remote functionality

The BMW i3, the world’s first fully connected electrically-powered car, features an integrated SIM card, giving drivers access to the vehicle from anywhere at any time. By utilizing the BMW i Remote Application, drivers can share information with the vehicle directly through their mobile device to perform useful functions from being able to access the battery life and driving range to checking to see if the windows are shut or adjusting the car’s climate remotely.

Samsung and BMW have collaborated to create a Samsung Galaxy Gear showcase specifically designed for the BMW i Remote application. The Samsung Galaxy Gear extends the smartphone experience to the user’s wrist giving real time updates and convenient access to their car. Users can view important information on the Galaxy Gear without having to take their smartphone out of their pocket or unlock a screen.

With the Samsung Galaxy Gear, users are now able to control their BMW i3 directly from their wrist.  From viewing status information of their BMW i3 to remotely controlling it in several different ways, the connection between the Samsung Galaxy Gear and the i3 truly offers users a whole new way to experience their mobile life.

In the showcase, the Galaxy Gear with BMW i Remote functionality provides users with important information about charging and vehicle status, including:

·         Status of the BMW i3’s battery charge and current drivable range

·         Status of doors, windows and sunroof

·         Required service & inspection needs

Aside from status updates, users can also remotely regulate the temperature of their BMW i3’s interior before getting in the car with either the touch based UI or Samsung’s S-Voice speech command on their Galaxy device. In addition, drivers can activate the “Send to car” function with their Galaxy device’s S Voice feature to send an address directly to their BMW i3’s navigation panel, instantly making their car ready to go as soon as they are.

The BMW i3 will be on display at the Samsung booth with staff on hand to demonstrate the BMW i Remote Application by utilizing both Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy Gear devices.

Trek Bikes – Taking the Connected Lifestyle to the Next Level

Samsung and Trek Bikes, manufacturers of one of the world’s highest performing bicycles and cycling equipment, have teamed up to enhance the cycling experience with powerful smartphone technology.

Trek has designed two concept bicycles to demonstrate the multiple possibilities for integrating smartphones with bikes, delivering several benefits for cyclists:

·         While pedaling, the bike can charge the Galaxy Note 3. This enables users to enjoy long bike rides without worrying about their smartphone battery running low, even with GPS, mapping and other applications running.

·         Through the Galaxy Note 3 seamlessly mounted into the handlebar or from a Galaxy Gear on their wrist, cyclists can wirelessly connect to the bike frame-integrated sensor and track vital statistics, such as speed, cadence and distance.

Two Samsung Galaxy –Trek Bikes will be on display at the Samsung booth alongside a number of Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy Gear devices. Visitors can ride the bikes to experience the new conceptual integration.

Kidrobot – Technology Meets Art and Design

Samsung and Kidrobot, the world’s premier creator and dealer of limited edition art toys, signature apparel and lifestyle accessories, have collaborated to design unique, custom figurines inspired by the power of Samsung Galaxy mobile devices. An increasingly important platform for self-expression, mobile technology connects with users through mobile accessories, creative applications, or digital design within the device itself. Capturing Kidrobot’s inspired design on both the Galaxy accessories as well as in the devices themselves creates multiple new touch points for artistic expression.

The Kidrobot Installation at the Samsung booth will introduce the original Samsung Galaxy-inspired figurine from Kidrobot. Three large imaginative Sculptures and 500 mini-figurines will be featured alongside Samsung Galaxy devices and accessories at the Samsung booth. Users will have multiple touch-points with which to engage with these creative designs, letting them enjoy the expressive, powerful, and fun artwork from Kidrobot’s world of popular artists in a variety of connected ways.

3D Systems – Bridging the Gap Between 3D Printing and Consumers

In addition to these innovative and creative collaborative partnerships, Samsung will also be partnering with 3D Systems, a leading provider of 3D content-to-print solutions, to showcase the possibilities of 3D printing for consumers.

Samsung’s Galaxy Note devices are built for simplifying design and creation and in hands of millions of consumers around the world. By partnering with 3D Systems, Samsung is able to show in a live demonstration how easy it might be for consumers to take their creative process one step further and render their designs in 3D, opening up a whole new world of design possibilities. 3D Systems has developed an application that will allow Samsung Galaxy Note users to design and create special 3D printed coins which can then be inserted into specially design Galaxy Note cases. Visitors to the booth will also get the chance to create various objects on Galaxy Note devices and send them off to be professionally printed in 3D.

Just an hour ago, at the Mandalay Bay Hotel, Samsung held a press conference for CES 2014. Samsung Tomorrow broadcast the whole event via live streaming and live blogging. Samsung addresses the future and finds a home

BK Yoon opened up the press conference, addressing the dramatic changes ahead for the industry and how Samsung plans to cope with them. First he addressed and briefly explained the four key factors that could change the world: Connectivity, Urbanization, Aging Population, and New emerging risks.

Samsung wants to cope with these factors at home. More specifically, in the home of the future. He envisions that the home of the future has to ‘protect’, ‘be flexible’ and ‘be responsive.’ The first step towards the future home? Smart Home.

Smart Home

BK Yoon’s presentation was followed by Tim Baxter. Emphasizing the rise of ‘device to device’ communication, he announced that the Samsung Smart Home Service is going to be unveiled at CES 2014.

Samsung Smart Home will provide three key services in and out of the home: device control, home view and Smart customer service. The Smart Home Service Protocol is planned to be open to third party developers this year.

Samsung Partners Up

Samsung, once again, partnered up with the biggest players across all industries. If you take a look at some of the guest speakers at the press conference, you can get a sense of how important ‘providing quality content’ is to Samsung.

UHD, Curved & Bendable?

We already know from the Press Release that Samsung has announced its 105″ Curved UHD and 110″ UHD TV. While showcasing its gigantic screen size and jaw-dropping display quality, there was also a brief talk about the inevitability of UHD. Samsung also once again ensured that there will be plenty of UHD content available through massive partnerships with studios like FOX and Paramount pictures, VOD streaming companies such as Amazon, Netflix and M-GO, and cable and satellite providers like Comcast Xfinity TV and DirectTV.

Also on display were some of the improved features, such as MultiWindow and Smart Hub’s new Games panel.

However, the surprise was at the end of the presentation, which showcased the Bendable TV! “At first glance, it’s a flat-plane with UHD TV with all of the features we’ve (Samsung) outlined, but with the touch of a button, it transforms into a Curved UHD TV.”

Samsung wants you to cook and clean up after better

Accompanying the world class chefs Michel Troisgros and Christopher Kostow, Samsung showcased the FoodShowcase refrigerator, oven and dish washer. Displaying technology such as triple cooling system, Flex Duo oven and WaterWall, it showed off its commitment to deliver advanced technology for people’s digital appliances.

Samsung also showcased its washing machine, aptly named Big Boy. The new washing machines can handle 4 times as much laundry, which is about 4 baskets or two king-size comforters. It has the largest capacity on the market. The Samsung Front Load can also wash a load in 30 minutes with the SuperSpeed technology.

Year of Tablets

Samsung Press Conference finished off with the announcement of a new tablet line up. With the increasing demand for tablets and the advancement in technology, such as WQXGA display and improved Multi Window feature, it unveiled the Galaxy Note Pro and Galaxy Tab Pro.

Galaxy Note Pro is 12.2 inch, which is the biggest tablet on the market so far. The difference between the Galaxy Note Pro and Galaxy Tab Pro seems to be the compatibility of the S Pen. The Pro series will come with various apps and contents included and the Galaxy Tab Pro will be available in three different sizes.

Samsung Electronics announced at the 2014 International CES that it would further expand its UHD ecosystem by working with global content partners to help accelerate consumer adoption and access to UHD content.

During its press conference, the company announced that it would provide consumers with an easy and convenient UHD entertainment experience at home through its partnership with content partners, as well as the launch of a UHD Video Pack pre-loaded with popular movies and documentaries.

Samsung plans to offer a UHD content streaming service through each company’s application and other technologies by working with leading streaming video providers Amazon, M-GO, Netflix, as well as cable TV provider Comcast and satellite TV provider DIRECTV. Samsung UHD TV owners will be able to enjoy the company’s UHD content streaming service in an easy and convenient way by downloading these applications from Smart Hub.

In order to accelerate consumer adoption and access to UHD Content, Samsung is working with Amazon, Comcast, DIRECTV, M-GO and Netflix to integrate UHD content within their respective TV applications.

UHD content comprises of large-capacity files with over 8 million pixels, which require efficient compression and transmission technology. Thanks to Samsung UHD TV’s built-in HEVC decoder and UHD player that meet industry standards, consumers can enjoy a high-quality, cinematic viewing experience at home.

Samsung also announced that it would release a UHD Video Pack containing popular movies and documentaries, in partnership with Hollywood production studios including 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment and Paramount Pictures. The UHD Video Pack, a HDD loaded with UHD movies and documentaries, will be available for purchase and consumers will be able to download additional UHD content from Smart Hub’s Multimedia panel as it becomes available. The wash cycle is quicker than ever, thanks to the larger drum size and SuperSpeed technology that washes faster without sacrificing performance, unlike conventional front load models. Samsung Electronics, the leader in TV technology for 8 years, unveiled its first commercial Curved Ultra High Definition (UHD) TVs and announced its robust 2014 curved and UHD TV lineup. The new product portfolio reinforces Samsung’s leadership and sets the pace for innovation, design and content across the industry.

In 2013, a banner year for Samsung, the company introduced three UHD TVs that ignited consumer demand for the new technology, and also launched its first-ever TV featuring a curved design. Ahead of the Curve in Creating the Ultimate Immersive Experience

Ushering in a bold new era of riveting realism and mesmerizing immersion, Samsung is blending its innovative Curved TV design with its UHD TV technology. These TVs deliver a bold theatrical experience and fundamentally change the way the world views TVs. The curved screen gives videos a presence not felt on flat screens, plus, a wider field of view creates a panoramic effect that makes the display seem even bigger than it is and draws viewers in like no TV has ever done before. The curved design creates a balanced and uniformed viewing distance for a more true-to-life viewing experience with improved viewing angles and higher contrast from different viewing positions, so everyone watching has the best seat in the house. To maximize the advantages of Curved TV, Samsung developed the optimal curvature of 4200R, which provides the best picture quality from a normal watching distance of 3-4 meters. Smart Experience: Now Smarter, Easier and Faster than Ever

Samsung’s Smart TV is even easier, faster and more fun to use. The new Multi-Link feature brings contextual multitasking to the big screen, enabling users to go deeper into their entertainment by splitting the screen to bring up related content to enhance the viewing experience. While enjoying Live TV, consumers can populate a right-hand screen with contextual search results on the Web browser, relevant YouTube video content and more for side-by-side enjoyment of related entertainment and information streams. On Samsung’s new U9000 Series, viewers have the option of splitting the large-screen real estate into a total of four screens.  

The 2014 Samsung Smart Hub is more intuitive and even more enjoyable. Samsung Electronics has underlined its technology leadership in TVs, mobile devices and home appliances by launching a range of category-defining products at the 2014 International CES.

Outlining his vision for the future of the consumer electronics industry, Mr. Yoon said four mega trends were shaping the technology demands of consumers: connectivity, urbanization, aging, and new environmental and societal risks.

Among Samsung’s key products launched at CES 2014 are:

Samsung continues to lead the TV industry – not just in terms of sales, but also as the first company to offer a broad range of  UHD TVs, four of them Curved for a bold, theatrical experience. The company also showed its “Bendable TV” concept, which allows viewers to switch between a curved and flat screen at the touch of a button. With the introduction of these TVs, Samsung is fundamentally changing the way the world views TVs.

The world’s largest Curved UHD TV – with a 105 inch screen – pioneers a 21:9 aspect ratio and double the enhanced contrast ratio of a flat TV. Additionally, viewers can experience a 3D effect without glasses with the new Auto Depth Enhancer feature. Samsung’s UHD TV experience is further enhanced through new proprietary technologies that provide incredible image depth, detail and color, including PurColor technology, which expresses more detailed shades, and a UHD upscaling process that converts HD and Full HD content to near-UHD quality. Samsung’s revolutionary curved design creates the most immersive viewing experience, and allows everyone watching the TV to enjoy the best seat in the house. What is more, with Samsung’s new Instant On feature, users will no longer have to wait for their TVs to power up.

Research shows that a majority of potential TV buyers worry that they might shop at the wrong moment, just before new technology becomes available. Samsung demonstrated that it still is the only company that offers truly future-ready TVs, releasing its first “evolution kit” for UHD TVs. The evolution kit –available both for selected HD and all UHD TVs – is effectively a brain transplant for the TV, to make sure it works with the latest standards and is powered by the newest technology.

Samsung’s TVs are also becoming even smarter, with a new Multi-Link feature that brings contextual multitasking to the big screen, as well as a newly designed Smart Hub. Film director Michael Bay, who joined Samsung’s CES press event, stated that the Samsung Curved UHD TV will give audiences an all-new way to enjoy movies at home. He also announced that he will exclusively release the first preview of his “Transformers 4” movie on Samsung UHD TV.

Up-leveling Your Kitchen and Living Room with Premium, Professional Appliances

This year marks the debut of the Chef Collection, a suite of premium appliances that blends a passion for food with the insights of Samsung’s Club Des Chefs – a group of Michelin-starred chefs who help Samsung develop kitchen appliances that meet the needs of both food enthusiasts and the most demanding chefs alike. The range encompasses a refrigerator, stove, oven, over-the-range (OTR) microwave and a dishwasher that features the revolutionary WaterWall technology for perfect cleaning without missing corners. While traditional wash systems feature rotary spray arms that do not reach all corners, the WaterWall technology’s linear mechanism moves along the bottom of the dishwasher tub to provide consistent high water pressure throughout the wash.

Samsung’s premier Chef Collection 4-Door Refrigerator signals a new era of professional food preservation, storage, organization and meal preparation. With Samsung’s Triple Cooling System, the refrigerator is optimized to keep food fresh and tasty. Additionally, Samsung’s Chef Pantry, a temperature-controlled compartment, maintains optimal temperatures at a constant 30°F, so foods like fish are optimally chilled before cooking. Also, Samsung’s Chef Pan, a multi-use container located in the refrigerator, can be used for marinating and storing food. It can also be placed directly in the oven and loaded in the dishwasher. The refrigerator also features a versatile Fridge-in-Freezer compartment that can be converted from a refrigerator to a freezer and back again. Boasting a capacity of 34 cu. ft (2014 DOE Standard), or 34 full bags of groceries, Samsung’s new offering accommodates more food than any other refrigerator on the market.

In addition to the Chef Collection Refrigerator, the company introduced the Samsung Food Showcase Refrigerator to the U.S. market. The refrigerator combines outstanding looks with clever internal storage design and innovative fridge technology that keeps food fresh longer and creates more space inside. The refrigerator is equipped with an exterior door ShowCase compartment for easy access to cooking sauces, drinks and snacks, as well as an interior InnerCase compartment for longer-term storage of larger, fresh foods.

Cutting down on household chores is the idea behind Samsung’s new washing machine and washer dryer, the WF9000. With a maximum  laundry capacity of 5.6 cu.ft (or about 25 kg), the WF9000 can wash four times the average washing machine load of a US household in one go – and in record time. Making the Connected Home a Reality with a Single Integrated Platform

Samsung’s new Smart Home service puts consumers in control of the devices and appliances in their home with a single application that connects both personal and home devices through an integrated platform and server. With a single application on a Smart TV, digital camera, smartphone or wearable device like the Galaxy Gear, consumers can control home devices – ranging from washing machines to lights to air conditioners – both at home and on the road. The device control can be made in an easier way with voice commands; say “going out” to your Samsung Gear and the TV will switch off and the lights turn themselves off.

Smart Home will initially offer three main services: Device Control, which lets consumers control single or multiple devices at home simultaneously on their mobile device or Smart TV no matter where they are; Home View, a feature that allows users to monitor their home in real-time through built-in cameras on appliances or a digital camera from their smartphone; and Smart Customer Service, which provides service alerts and assistance in after-sales servicing.

Samsung Unveils New Era of Smart Home at CES 2014

Samsung Smart Home enables home devices connectivity through a single integrated platform; provides foundation for emerging ecosystem of connected home services  

Samsung Electronics announced Samsung Smart Home, a service enabling Smart TVs, home appliances and smartphones to be connected and managed through a single integrated platform.

The Samsung Smart Home brand and product logo will debut at CES 2014 in Las Vegas, and the service will be commercially rolled out across Samsung devices and appliances in the first half of 2014. Pursuing its vision for a connected world, Samsung will also collaborate with third-party partners to make the Smart Home service extendible to their products and services, building the foundation for a rapidly-growing ecosystem of connected home services.

“With Samsung Smart Home, we are bringing our capabilities as the world’s number-one manufacturer of smart devices to make the connected home a reality for consumers today,” said Wonpyo Hong, President, Media Solutions Center, Samsung Electronics. “In the coming days, we will continue to roll out better home services to our consumers to enable them to keep enjoying a brand-new experience of ‘Smart Living and Beyond’.”

Samsung Smart Home’s unique functionality enables users to control and manage their home devices through a single application by connecting personal and home devices — from refrigerators and washing machines to Smart TVs, digital cameras, smartphones and even the wearable device GALAXY Gear — through an integrated platform and server.

Samsung Smart Home will initially provide three main service features enabling users to connect with their devices from anywhere, anytime: Device Control, Home View and Smart Customer Service.

With Device Control, users can use customized settings on their mobile devices or Smart TV to monitor or control home devices — turning on air conditioning or activating lighting, for example — while inside or outside the home, or even while travelling abroad. At the touch of a dedicated Smart Home app icon on their device, the service enables users to control one or multiple devices simultaneously no matter where they are.

Smart Home also offers a voice command function on all the controller devices. If a user says ‘going out’ to his GALAXY Gear device, home lighting and selected appliances are turned off. If the user says ‘good night’ to their Smart TV remote control, the TV will be turned off and lights dimmed and gradually turned off in readiness for sleep. Users can also use chat control on their smartphone app as a fun, convenient way to communicate with their devices.

With the service’s Home View feature users can also use their smartphone to get real-time views of the home via in-built appliance cameras; and Smart Home’s Smart Customer Service notifies users when it’s time to service appliances or replace consumables, and provides assistance in after-sales servicing.

Initial deployment of Samsung Smart Home will focus on a range of Samsung Smart TVs, home appliances and smartphones. The service will gradually expand its coverage by including additional Samsung products as well as other manufacturers’ devices and appliances.

Samsung has also developed a dedicated Smart Home software protocol (SHP) to enable connectivity between all Samsung Smart Home products as well as those from other device and appliance manufacturers. Through this strategy, Samsung aims to create a foundation for an emerging ecosystem of connected home services in collaboration with its partners.

Samsung also plans to expand the Smart Home service to cover home-energy, secure home access, healthcare, and eco home applications through the partnerships with third-party service providers in these sectors, helping foster joint commercial opportunities and grow the connected home service marketplace.

Led by Mr. Hong, Samsung established an internal organization in the middle of last year — called the Smart Home Steering Committee — to align all of the company’s product groups, including its R&D arm, behind the Smart Home platform and co-ordinate the development of innovative services and commercial partnerships around the service.

AutoShare automatically sends every photo you take instantly to your smartphone or tablet and the Remote Viewfinder Pro function enables several control of the NX30 from a smartphone, allowing the user to zoom and snap shots remotely yet still have full visibility of the scene, opening up new photographic possibilities. Manual settings can still be accessed, including shutter speed and aperture, so that photographers can retain camera control yet have another option as to how they want to frame their shot.

Dropbox, the popular web storage service is pre-loaded on the NX30 in selected regions – making it the first camera-specific device to offer direct-to-Dropbox uploading. Additionally, users of the NX30, in select regions, can upload directly to Flickr, the full resolution photo sharing site – another first in a camera-specific device. Using the advanced connected features of the NX30, images can be uploaded automatically so that snap happy photographers will not need to be concerned with filling up their memory.

Two dedicated Custom Modes can be accessed on the mode dial, so that preferred camera settings can be retrieved quickly, while ten additional custom sets can be stored on the camera. The separate drive dial also provides instant access to a selection of popular modes, including continuous shooting, bracketing and self timer. It is therefore fast and simple to select the ideal settings for a shot, meaning that there is no delay in capturing the perfect image.

When and where does it take place?

As mentioned above, this exhibition takes place in Las Vegas, Nevada. The official show locations are the Las Vegas Convention Center and World Trade Center (LVCC) and The Venetian. The tradeshow officially opens on January 7^th and ends on the 10^th for general exhibitors. Three months ago at IFA 2013, Samsung’s latest wearable device, Galaxy Gear, was unveiled. Also, Samsung’s smart home, a home consisted of smart products that allow users to control with their smart phones via apps, was demonstrated as a concept in Berlin. The wearable device market is on the rise and the concept of ‘smart home’ has started to gain ground. Samsung Electronics announced an expanded roster of audio products, all aimed at elevating the entertainment experience across the home.

Building on the 2013 launch of the Samsung Shape Wireless Audio – Multiroom System, Samsung has greatly expanded the ways consumers can enjoy superb sound in every room of the house with its new multi-room offering and integration of wireless and multiroom technology across its 2014 flagship soundbar, Blu-ray player and home entertainment system products. The new product line reflects the growing demand for solutions that offer consumers the ability to manage multiple audio sources.

CES 2014 introductions include:

It really wouldn’t be an exaggeration if we were to say that one of the most underrated features of TVs has been the remote control. Samsung to Release the World’s Biggest 110-inch UHD TV

Samsung Electronics released 110S9, the world’s largest commercial Ultra High Definition TV. Samsung’s innovative technologies such as the Quadmatic Picture Engine provides unrivalled picture quality on 110S9’s 110-inch UHD screen, bringing to life its 800-megapixel display – that’s over four times the number of pixels on a Full HD TV.

Ever since first being shown at major home appliances exhibitions such as CES and IFA, ultra large-screen UHD TVs have grown more and more popular. Many VVIP customers from around the world who have experienced the 85-inch S9 have shown interest in larger TVs – 10 from the middle east have already made pre-orders.

At CES 2014, Samsung Electronics to Introduce Innovative B2B Display Solutions

Samsung Electronics will introduce a host of new commercial large format displays (LFDs) next week at 2014 International CES in Las Vegas. The company will display a variety of innovative LFD solutions for hotels, businesses and retailers that are designed to present visually stunning and differentiated experiences to customers. To demonstrate the benefits of its displays in each of these settings, the Samsung booth at CES will feature various virtual environments intended to replicate a state-of-the-art “paradise of hotels,” including a lobby video wall, new hotel TV solution and display solutions for business centers – with Samsung’s ‘Interactive White Board’ and the world’s largest 95-inch LED LFD.

“Samsung continues to actively look for new markets for our innovative LFD B2B displays, including hotels, conference centers and shopping malls,” said Jeong-hwan Kim, Senior Vice President of Samsung Electronics’ Visual Display Business. “In the coming year, we will continue to add more innovative and differentiated LFD solutions in the market.”

To meet growing demand for advanced displays in the hotel industry, Samsung offers innovative display solutions for both the lobby and in-room environments. Designed to demonstrate the “Rediscovery of the Hotel Lobby,” Samsung will showcase clear, vivid information on a video wall meant for a hotel lobby, including weather information and exchange rates – which require real-time updates.

Samsung will also unveil its new hotel TV solution that can change hotel TVs into fun and useful information portals in hotel room-like spaces. Using this solution, hotels can easily add content – including films and games, as well as information regarding local tourist attractions – to enhance guests’ viewing experience and satisfaction.

Further, Samsung will introduce ‘Smart View,’ an innovative functionality that allows guests to view content from their smartphones and tablets through their in-room hotel TV screen. This new feature enables guests to enjoy content from their mobile devices, including movies and television shows, on the larger hotel TV screen.

For business center environments at hotels, Samsung will introduce the Interactive White Board (IWB) solution, featuring touch and multi-screen technologies. The Samsung IWB is an electronic bulletin board combining hardware and software that makes it possible to create large screens that can be operated by a single PC. Touch screen capabilities also make the IWB a convenient and collaborative solution for educational and corporate purposes. To further enhance the usability of the IWB and its family of LFDs, Samsung will also unveil a feature on the new device that allows users to easily make screen adjustments, as well as a pointer function designed to replace traditional laser pointers.

Additionally, Samsung will showcase the world’s largest 95-inch LED LFD (Model: ME95C), now in mass production, with a 2.1-meter magnificent display that highlights the new product’s clear picture quality and other features. The company will demonstrate the differentiated attributes of its LFDs by showing scenes of meetings at a business center on the ME95C.

Samsung Electronics has maintained its leadership position in the LFD market for the fifth consecutive year, accounting for 26.4 percent in sales volume in the third quarter of 2013. The company also solidified its position in the growning B2B display market, which is known as a new growth engine, by increasing its market share from 19 percent in 2012 to 26 percent in 2013.

2014 Samsung Smart TVs get Easier and More Convenient to Use

Samsung Electronics will showcase its 2014 Smart TV with enhanced usability at CES 2014, held from January 7 – 10, 2014 in Las Vegas.

Samsung’s voice interaction service, which understands natural languages, is currently available in 11 countries. In 2014, the service will expand into 12 new markets, making the service available in a total of 23 countries worldwide. Samsung has also made the service more convenient by focusing on the most frequently-used functions and taking into consideration user’s usage patterns.

“Samsung’s 2014 Smart TV models deliver significantly improved voice interaction and motion control features so that our consumers will be able to enjoy our Smart TV more intuitively,” said Kyungshik Lee, Senior Vice President of the Service Strategy Team of Visual Display Business, Samsung Electronics. “We will continue to develop content that integrates voice and motion recognition for added convenience.”

With the 2014 Smart TV, finding content is easier than ever. Users can change the channel in one step – by simply saying the channel number. They can even open a website or app using shortcuts. For reference, 2013 models require two steps to change TV channels: ‘Channel Change’ and ‘Channel Number’

The voice search feature is also more convenient to use, letting users find all content results in one place.

Further, when a consumer uses voice interaction to search for daily living information such as weather, stocks and sports while watching TV, a pop-up window appears on the bottom of the page with search results. Consumers can move to the app and see the details by clicking the pop-up.

Along with voice interaction, the motion control has been improved by adding the ‘finger gesture’ feature of the 2014 Smart TVs – a significant improvement to motion control.

Thanks to ‘finger gesture,’ users can change the TV channel, adjust the volume, find and select what they want to watch just by using their fingers. They can also go back to the previous screen and stop the video by motioning their finger counterclockwise – a more intuitive way to control the TV.

Samsung’s 2014 Smart TV models will be shown at Samsung booth #12004 in the Central Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center at CES 2014.
