Easy Installation With a Sturdy Stand and Expanded Connectivity

After you open the package and remove each of the components, it becomes clear just how easy it is to install the Odyssey Neo G9. In addition to the 123.8cm-wide, 32:9 ultra-widescreen monitor with its circular core that glows during gameplay, the package contains a sturdy stand that provides a solid base and cables that facilitate easy connection to a variety of external devices.

For quick and simple installation, first screw the stand into the center back of the monitor while it is still in its packaging. Then, attach the core lighting component that is divided into two halves by joining them at the joint and twisting them in. The stand is easy to assemble and disassemble due to its cradle form, while the height, tilt and rotation of the monitor can be adjusted to ensure an optimal gameplay position.

The 1000R curvature of the Odyssey Neo G9 is close to the visual field of humans, allowing the display to completely fill the user’s peripheral vision. What’s more, the monitor’s dual QHD display and 5,120×1,440 resolution enable detailed images to fill the user’s visual field, drawing them more deeply into the scenes being displayed.

The secret to the Odyssey Neo G9’s outstanding resolution is Quantum Matrix technology. With the introduction of finer light sources, the number of local dimming zones in the screen has been increased to 2,048. What’s more, the monitor’s contrast can now be adjusted to a much finer degree, with 4,096 different contrast levels available to help bring out the unique characteristics of both bright and dark tones.

HDR technology, which expands the brightest and darkest points of the brightness spectrum, has been recognized as the next-generation standard for displaying images. With its Quantum HDR 2000 technology, the Odyssey Neo G9 can vividly reproduce scenes with sharp differences in brightness, like those featuring explosions. This technology enables brightness of up to 2,000 nits, which is two times greater than that of existing monitors such as the previous Odyssey G9 model.

The static contrast ratio of the Odyssey Neo G9 is 1,000,000:1, which means its high performance stands out even more when it displays images with sharp differences in brightness. By expressing dark colors more deeply and bright ones more brightly, the monitor is able to establish dimensional contrast.

Taking Every Experience to New Heights of Immersion With Core Sync

Another advantage of the Odyssey Neo G9 series is the way the monitor’s aesthetics allow users to create their own special gaming atmosphere. Just like the previous model, the Odyssey G9, the Odyssey Neo G9 comes with core lighting on the back of the monitor, which further establishes a captivating gaming environment.

The monitor’s Infinity Lighting, which emits a blue light when the monitor is turned on, has evolved in the Odyssey Neo G9 thanks to the new ‘Core Sync’ feature. Core Sync automatically analyzes the color at the center of the screen and radiates lighting of the same color from the back of the screen. Since its launch in August, Samsung’s CHG90 – the world’s largest QLED gaming monitor – has emerged as an industry innovator and pioneer. The monitor’s leadership position recently received further validation from the Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA), who, following a rigorous testing procedure, confirmed that the CHG90 (along with the CHG70) exemplifies its DisplayHDR 600 performance standards and is the industry’s first display to be certified as DisplayHDR compliant.

Up until recently, there had been no standard specification for the HDR performance of PC monitors and laptop computer displays. But earlier this year, VESA, an international non-profit that sets and supports industry-wide interface standards for displays, established the DisplayHDR standard. The fully open standard specifies HDR quality, including luminance, color gamut, bit depth and rise time. It consists of three levels (DisplayHDR 400, 600, 1000); specifically, the DisplayHDR 600 tier indicates that HDR content can be enjoyed in bright indoor lighting conditions.

When granting DisplayHDR 600 certification to the CHG90, VESA cited the monitor’s use of HDR to elevate contrast ratio (3,000:1), color accuracy and overall presentation vibrancy as an industry standard-setter. The certification further validates the CHG90’s ability to provide the optimal gaming and entertainment viewing environment, but is just the latest in a series of recent accolades for the monitor.

A More Vivid and Detailed Gaming Environment

The QLED quantum dot technology delivers a new metal core and supports both approximately 125 percent of the sRGB color spectrum and 95 percent of the Digital Cinema Initiatives (DCI-P3) motion picture standard to deliver an exceptionally wide color range.

Samsung’s CHG90 sets the new visual standard for gaming displays by projecting a 32:9 aspect ratio and 3,840×1,080 double full HD (DFHD) resolution across a 49-inch screen. The CHG90 literally extends the playing field for gamers, with its broad design surpassing industry standards while simultaneously representing the widest monitor in the company’s gaming portfolio. The monitor delivers stunning 1,800R curvature and an ultra-wide 178-degree viewing angle, maintaining content visibility from any location within a given space. Available in 27- and 31.5-inch variations, The CHG70 integrates HDR and quantum dot technologies, with a 144Hz refresh rate further helping to bring out the best in gaming content. This combination offers gamers a viewing arena that is brighter (600nit peak brightness), clearer (2,560×1,440 WQHD resolution) and more luminous, and which brings the slightest visual nuances to the forefront in extremely light or dark environments.

The CHG90 and CHG70 arrive as the best Samsung gaming monitors to feature AMD’s Radeon FreeSync technology. Radeon FreeSync supports a wide color gamut to showcase HDR content with twice the perceivable brightness and color than that offered by the sRGB standard. A Colorful, Curved Entertainment Experience

Samsung’s new CH711 Quantum Dot curved monitor is designed with gamers in mind. Available in 27- and 31.5-inch variations, and scheduled for an early 2017 commercial release, the CH711 delivers vivid, visually stunning picture quality, regardless of the content being enjoyed.

Featuring 1,800R curvature and an ultrawide 178-degree viewing angle, the CH711 makes content clearly visible wherever you may be in a room. Its ergonomic design also enables viewers to adjust the monitor’s horizontal and vertical positioning for optimal comfort. The Quantum Dot Monitor Evolution

Q. The type of LCD panel used in a gaming monitor is key in determining how it displays. How did you select the right one for the CFG70?

Hoseong Seo: Gaming monitors feature different types of LCD panels, namely Twisted Nematic (TN), Vertical Alignment (VA), and In-Plane Switching (IPS) or Plane to Line Switching (PLS). But to meet our requirements for image quality and response time, there was really only one answer.

The CFG70 features a VA panel, which provides a high contrast range, rich color and a wide viewing angle. We chose a VA not only because they’re the optimal panels for curved monitors, which are scientifically proven to be more visually comfortable, but also because it integrated perfectly with our Quantum dot technology, allowing us to deliver supreme image quality.

Most VA panels feature an MPRT (Moving Picture Response Time – the standard for measuring the “motion blur” of rapidly moving objects in a sequence of images) of between 4 and 6 milliseconds. The CFG70’s, however, is just 1ms.

Q. What steps did you take to achieve that 1-millisecond mark?

Hoseong Seo: The difference is in the CFG70’s impulsive scanning technology. With older, CRT (cathode ray tube) monitors, when a scene changes, the screen will very quickly turn off and back on. The human eye compensates for the gap, and the user sees seamless visuals without motion blur. LCD monitors, on the other hand, do not turn off when a scene changes, which makes them susceptible to motion-blur issues.

Impulsive scanning technology reduces motion blur by regulating a monitor’s backlight between each scene. The conventional method to address this issue is to control the backlight from the center of the screen, but this may allow motion blur to remain in the upper and lower areas.

The CFG70’s backlights are divided into four sections that synchronize with image frames to eliminate motion blur across its screen.

The CFG70 features advanced “four-channel” impulsive scanning technology, which is more precise. It creates a cleaner visual experience by dividing the screen into four sections to remove motion blur more efficiently, and Samsung was the first to apply it to create a 1ms monitor.

Q. How did you anticipate gamers would respond to the CFG70’s advanced technology?

Hyang Go: Well, while it’s true that gamers greatly value innovation in their visual displays, not all will ultimately choose to buy the products with the most advanced technologies. One reason for this is simply because not everyone sees the difference.

We believe that the CFG70 curved gaming monitor’s strengths are very clear, however, and we wanted to give gamers an opportunity to see for themselves. So we invited some gamers to participate in a blind test comparing the visuals produced by its 1ms response time and impulsive scanning technology with those of competing gaming monitors.

Ten out of the 11 participants deemed the CFG70 superior, which is a testament to our development team’s hard work. One particularly perceptive participant even pointed out motion blur at the top and bottom of one of the other monitors’ screens, which proves the impulsive scanning technology’s effectiveness.

Q. How do you believe the CFG70 will ultimately enrich the gaming experience?

Hoseong Seo: Most gamers will carefully examine a number of different specs when choosing a monitor. Though other monitors may match the CFG70’s specs, we believe users of the CFG70 will see a real difference in visual performance.

In the end, the CFG70’s response time, along with its Quantum dot color and four-channel impulsive scanning technology, will allow users to enjoy a much more realistic and visually immersive gaming experience than they’d get with other gaming monitors on the market today.

Q: Tell us a bit about the CFG70’s response time and the value it brings to the gaming experience.  

Hee Bok Song: A gaming monitor’s basic job is to provide smooth graphics without afterimages. We used to measure display response time in terms of panel response, but nowadays we use MPRT (Moving Picture Response Time). The CFG70’s MPRT is one millisecond, which is the fastest in its category. Although there are other monitors that feature a 1ms response time, what makes the CFG70 special is that it is the first to feature a curved display.

The CFG70 features three essential virtues of an ideal gaming monitor: a 1ms response time, 144Hz refresh rate and curved display.

To foster an ideal gaming experience, we incorporated a 144Hz refresh rate and AMD FreeSync technology. Modern gaming PCs boast high frame rates, and sometimes monitors with lower refresh rates cannot display their graphics properly. However, with FreeSync and a 144Hz refresh rate, the CFG70 provides gamers with smooth, uninterrupted visuals.

Q: What differentiates the CFG70 from other monitors in terms of picture quality?

Jung Woo Hong: The CFG70 is the first monitor equipped with Quantum dot technology. The biggest difference between this and monitors without Quantum dots is in the range of hues that can be reproduced, which indicates how well a particular display can create lifelike, original color.

Common monitors are capable of implementing 72 percent of the PC-standard ‘sRGB’ wide color gamut, and monitors made for professionals measure between 98 and 119 percent. The CFG70, however, can realize 125 percent of this range. Achieving an even and clear high-definition picture on a curved monitor was no easy feat, but we researched relentlessly in order to pull it off.

Q: What were some of your key focuses when designing the monitor’s UX?

The CFG70 includes user-friendly Gaming UX on-screen display (OSD) interface

Sung Duk Cho: Different games require different capabilities in a display. For example, First-Person Shooters (FPS) require smooth visuals for dynamic scene changes and Multiplayer Online Battle Arena games (MOBAs) require clearly discernible colors so players can easily recognize their character’s location. Therefore, when we designed the CFG70’s UX, we wanted it to be able to complement a range of different games.

In order to implement the new UX, we installed a high-level graphic engine into the monitor itself. The CFG70’s default game settings were also carefully configured with the input of the Samsung Galaxy pro gaming team as well as other gamers who tested out the monitor firsthand. The result is a highly versatile UX that satisfies both hardcore and typical gamers alike.

The monitor also features ‘Arena Lighting’, which responds to in-game sound effects to bring lifelike lighting to users’ video-game experience. So in a FPS, for example, when a player fires a gun, the lighting responds accordingly. Each spark and blast bathes the player in light, drawing them deeper into the action by creating a more immersive gaming experience.

Q: What was the impetus behind the monitor’s dual-hinge design?

The dual-hinge design and the “Pivot” technology of the CFG70’s stand allows users to position their monitor to their preference.

Yoon Ah Kim: Rapid response time and high-definition visuals are of no use if users cannot comfortably concentrate on their screen. Our research indicates that many gamers find it uncomfortable when their monitor’s position is even slightly off. In fact, many hardcore gamers are sensitive to differences in screen position as small as a half an inch or less.

The engineering process was not easy, but with user convenience as our top priority we managed to achieve a design for the CFG70’s stand that features easily adjustable double joints. Resembling a robot arm, the stand allows users to comfortably adjust their monitor’s position to their preference.

By combining Samsung’s advanced motion blur reduction technology with its VA panel, the CFG70 is the first curved monitor to produce a 1 ms moving picture response time (MPRT). The rapid MPRT rate reduces display transitions between moving and animated objects, and in turn eliminates potential visual distractions.

The CFG70 also leverages integrated AMD FreeSync Technology over HDMI functionality to synchronize the screen’s 144 Hz refresh rate with users’ AMD graphics cards. This connectivity minimizes image tearing, input latency and stutter that can disrupt gameplay and escalate visual fatigue.

This process optimizes various settings, including contrast ratios, black gamma levels for enhanced brightness and white balance levels for temperature management. Imagine the setting … you are lining up for a penalty kick that can win soccer’s prestigious World Cup. You are staring down one of the best goalies in the world so intently that you can see the color of his eyes. The crowd is cheering loudly behind you, complementing the bright green grass and blinding lights.

Through enhanced immersion and presentation, Samsung’s new curved gaming monitors can make this scenario a reality (or at least a virtual one). The company signaled its entry into the gaming market with the release of its first curved, competition-designed monitors – the CF591, CF391 and CF390 displays – earlier this year, introducing a host of technologies designed to elevate the gaming experience.

Seeing is Believing

EA Play offered many attendees their first experience with a curved gaming monitor. Many within this audience said they typically compete on flat-screen monitors, PCs or televisions, and were thrilled to see a realistic and captivating game presentation brought to life through a compact screen. If anything, the EA Play demo stations piqued gamers’ curiosity – most in attendance said they would like to sample other titles in this format, and learn more about how the curved format can improve their gameplay.

In certain cases, the curved displays became a “must-have” at EA Play. A special QR code promotion attached to each demo monitor directed participants to a product page while simultaneously offering a sales discount. Monday’s crowd alone saw several attendees take advantage of the promotion, transforming their future gaming experience on the spot.

What Gamers Want

Show floor conversations indicated that gamers seem aligned on the components of the ideal gaming experience – continuity, realism, visual depth and a presentation they can stay focused on long-term. Overall, attendees found that Samsung’s curved gaming monitors not only met, but exceeded their expectations along these criteria.

Gamers cited the CF591 monitor’s lack of glare as a clear advantage. Supported by a 3,000:1 contrast ratio that produces darker blacks and reduces light leakage, the CF591 is designed to amplify color depth without distraction.
