When Samsung launched the Galaxy S8/S8+ they took mobile computing to a new level with the first appearance of Samsung DeX, the ultimate mobile productivity solution delivering a PC-like experience from anywhere, that now comes standard on the company’s flagship devices.

With the initial release of Samsung DeX, and its companion DeX Station, in 2017, Samsung sought to bring a PC-like experience to the smartphone. Since then, the company has introduced a variety of new accessories to make it easier to use the service, each with its own features and functionality to help people connect in the way that suits them best. Check out the infographic below to see exactly how Samsung DeX has evolved over the last year.

01. The Problem

With the launch of DeX Station, we proved that we could harness the increased power of the Galaxy flagship phones to increase productivity. You could now connect your phone to a monitor and use it much like you would on a desktop to open multiple windows or connect a keyboard and mouse to write emails, play games, conduct video conference calls, and more. But it was missing one small thing: get-up-and-go mobility.

The 2nd generation of Samsung DeX’s accessories, the DeX Pad, answered some of the shortcomings of the DeX Station in more mobile-friendly way by adding additional functionality, allowing you to turn your smartphone into a touchpad or keyboard. But still, there were opportunities to provide users with more seamless and easier ways to use Samsung DeX.

02. The Goal

We wanted to grow beyond the DeX Station and DeX Pad and approach Samsung DeX as a mobile productivity service and ecosystem that could change how we use our mobile devices. More than two peripheral accessories, we wanted to expand our offerings to provide a more compact and seamless experience for users so they could enjoy a PC-like mobile experience in much easier and various ways. For example, we wanted to make it possible to use Samsung DeX without dedicated accessories, and for users to still use their smartphones while connecting to the service.

03. The Idea

To allow people more versatility, we created a wider variety of connectivity options with different features that suited their unique needs. Not only did we want to enable people to get more done on the go, we wanted them to be able to enjoy new ways of entertainment including using your smartphone as a sketchpad or playing full-screen mobile games, without the need to carry multiple devices. We also wanted to allow people to still use their phones while using Samsung DeX for a more seamless experience.

04. The Solution

We made Samsung DeX compatible with simple HDMI adapters, including Samsung’s Multi Port Adapter, and DeX Cable, giving users more portable and convenient options to connect to Samsung DeX, each offering unique benefits and connectivity options. When connected via an HDMI adapter or DeX Cable, users can simultaneously access content on a monitor and continue to use their phone as normal while connected to Samsung DeX.

05. The Result

With the three new options, there are now five ways to use Samsung DeX to meet the needs of various types of users: Samsung’s HDMI Adapter, Multi Port Adapter, DeX Cable, DeX Pad, and DeX Station. The DeX Station and DeX Pad offer the power to open more windows, leverage higher-resolution screens and charge your device, while the HDMI and Multi Port solutions provide a convenient option for users on-the-go. The low-cost HDMI and Multi Port solutions also provide a much lower barrier to entry for using Samsung DeX and can also be used as regular HDMI adapters.

For the Galaxy Note9, we added S Pen integration so that users can take notes or advance slides while their phone is connected to an external monitor. With these updates, using Samsung DeX is more practical than ever, with options that cater to portability, convenient connectivity, a seamless experience with Dual Mode, and support for third party partnerships including Microsoft and Adobe.

Introduced with the Galaxy S8 and compatible with the new Galaxy Note9, Samsung DeX, the company’s ultimate mobile productivity solution, allows users to easily connect their Galaxy device to an external display to enjoy a PC-like experience powered entirely by their phone.

Offering a simple setup and easy access to your phone’s apps and files, Samsung DeX allows you to transform virtually any place into a workplace. And now, thanks to the solution’s new support for easy-to-carry HDMI adapters, as well as its deep compatibility with the Galaxy Note9’s S Pen, mobile multitasking has never been simpler.

Let’s explore how the Galaxy Note9 and Samsung DeX can help you become a productivity powerhouse.

Made for Mobile Lifestyles

Samsung DeX offers an Android-based, PC-like interface that allows you to seamlessly access your phone’s apps, and adds comfort and convenience to viewing and editing documents and presentations, watching a favorite show or movie, mobile gaming, and much more.

The interface is easy to navigate, supports keyboard and mouse gestures such as shortcuts, scrolling and dragging and dropping, and features a variety of optimized apps that allow users to get the most out of working on a larger display. The ability to effortlessly toggle between apps and view their contents on a bigger screen makes multitasking a breeze, and makes working on your smartphone more convenient and efficient.

Your phone still functions as a phone when it’s plugged in, and calls, texts and settings are all accessible via the taskbar located in the lower right corner of your monitor.

More Ways to Connect

Convenience has always been key for Samsung DeX, which is why the solution offers a variety of simple ways to connect your Galaxy smartphone to a display and get down to work (or play). These include the previously introduced DeX Station and DeX Pad, as well as the solution’s new support for HDMI adapters*. To get started, simply connect your Galaxy Note9 to a monitor with one of those choices. It’s just that easy.

The solution’s support for HDMI connectivity means that the HDMI adapters can be easily dropped in a bag, creating more opportunities to enjoy a PC-like experience at home, at the office, or on the go. Meanwhile, the DeX Station and DeX Pad support multiple screen resolutions (up to HD+ and WQHD) and open even more apps at once. With all choices, Samsung DeX is compatible with a broad range of accessories, including keyboards, mice, headsets and more.

Pick the (right) one that best suits your needs and start enjoying a more productive and convenient mobile experience with Samsung DeX.

Even Better with the Galaxy Note9

Samsung’s latest flagship device has introduced exciting ways for users to utilize Samsung DeX to streamline more aspects of their day. The Galaxy Note9’s newly added connectivity support for Samsung DeX enables users to enjoy a full Samsung DeX experience by simply connecting the smartphone to a display via compatible HDMI adapters.

Samsung DeX’s new dual mode support enhances multitasking, allowing you to work simultaneously on your display and on your Galaxy Note9, so you can watch a video on the display while jotting down notes on your Galaxy Note9 with S Pen. Samsung DeX on the Galaxy Note9 also lets you utilize the smartphone as a touch keyboard, touchpad, or a surface for drawing with the Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) S Pen.

Speaking of, the S Pen’s deep Samsung DeX integration allows you to access its full range of capabilities when using the solution. And with its new remote control capability, the S Pen also functions as a handy clicker for delivering presentations on Samsung DeX-connected displays.

An Ever-expanding Samsung Ecosystem

When Samsung DeX launched in 2017, the solution had almost 40 strategic partners. Now, that number has almost doubled. The company continues to work closely with their ever-expanding list of partners—including popular software such as Microsoft Office, Adobe, Blackberry, Hancom Office and many more.

The service also includes support for virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) solutions, including those from Citrix, VMware and Amazon Web Service. This means that Samsung DeX can enhance mobility for business users, such as financial institutions. Mobile professionals can utilize Samsung DeX to enjoy PC-like experience that combines Windows and Android into one powerful productivity platform, and offers access to their Windows PC from virtually anywhere in the world.

The list of Samsung DeX-compatible devices continues to grow, and now, with the Galaxy Tab S4, extends to tablets as well. Samsung DeX on the Galaxy Tab S4 can be accessed standalone, or the device can be linked to a larger display using a HDMI connection. Samsung DeX integration creates more opportunities for users to multitask efficiently, and helps cement the Galaxy Tab S4’s status as the go-to-tablet for mobile productivity.

See for yourself how Samsung DeX and the new Galaxy Note9 can help you master multitasking.

*HDMI support is currently available with the Galaxy Note9. Samsung’s HDMI adapters include HDMI Adapter (EE-HG950), Multi Port Adapter (EE-P5000) and DeX Cable (EE-I1300).

More and more people are choosing a multiple monitor system to increase productivity. However, this type of setup doesn’t come without disadvantages. These include differences in height and color between the monitors, and bezels that sever the continuity of screen information. Not to mention the longer system setting times and complex array of connections.

This year, Samsung Electronics introduced the CJ89, a 49-inch curved monitor. Its screen size equals to two 27-inch monitors, providing an optimized and better workspace than a multiple monitor system. Samsung introduced a gaming monitor of the same-size, the CHG90 last year, but the CJ89 has more powerful and optimal functions for business environments, such as a built-in KVM switch, USB-Type C ports, and built-in stereo speakers.

Here, Samsung Newsroom reviews the CJ89, the super ultra-widescreen monitor that guarantees both the best work and the best leisure experiences.

Effortless Viewing Experience with 32:9 Super Ultra-Widescreen

The diagonal length of the 32:9, 49-inch curved screen is a whopping 124cm! The first thing we thought was, “Can we see everything on screen without turning our heads?” But our doubts vanished quickly once we sat in front of it. The usual procedure with dual monitors is to turn one’s head to and fro. With the CJ89, however, we could see everything effortlessly.

The secret is the 1,800R curvature of the display, which is equal to a curvature radius of 1,800mm. The monitor is curved to match the natural shape of the human eye, so the viewing experience is more comfortable with less eye strain.

The CJ89’s wide screen was very convenient to view a complex set of data at the same time. The standard ratio for office monitors is 16:9, which shows about 26 columns in Excel program. But the CJ89 showed about 52 columns, so we did not have to keep scrolling the screen left and right. Also, we could arrange two or three full-sized windows on the same screen, so we did not have to keep shifting between windows either.

It seemed the monitor could provide a way more convenient work environment, not only for graphics work that compares and edits multiple images or videos, but also for general office work that requires web searching while writing documents or analyzing various data points at the same time.

Conveniently Use Many Devices with One Monitor

The monitor images in the above graphic have been manipulated to demonstrate the screen transition feature. No brightness changes occur during actual device usage

The CJ89 has a built-in KVM switch, allowing easy maneuvering of a neat feature called ‘Picture-In-Picture (PIP) mode,’ which enables users to display multiple applications on the big screen, and ‘Picture-By-Picture (PBP) mode’ which transforms one monitor into dual monitors.

You can select the device to be displayed on the divided screen and adjust it with one button

When connecting the CJ89 to a desktop computer, a laptop or a Dex station, it becomes more than just a big screen. Especially when we connected a smartphone to the CJ89 using a Dex Station, the UI optimized for the desktop environment made us feel like we were using a PC.

According to the user’s diverse needs, the CJ89 can be divided into two 16:9 screens, or a 21:9 and 11:9 screens. With Samsung’s Easy Setting Box software, we could choose from a variety of layouts when viewing multiple Internet windows and documents. Arranging multiple windows automatically was a breeze, as it can be done with a single click.

The CJ89 has USB Type-C ports, which is more convenient to use than its predecessors. A USB Type-C connector simultaneously delivers electric power, data, and display signal between devices. For example, a Galaxy S8 and Galaxy Note 8 can be connected to a CJ89 via the Type-C port to mirror their displays on the CJ89 and charge the battery at the same time. And a laptop, a tablet, and a desktop can also be connected via the Type-C port without an extra connection hub, and they can be displayed seamlessly on the CJ89.

More Immersive Gaming Experience

The CJ89 not only provides a better business environment, but also a better gaming experience. Gamers can enjoy an immersive experience with the monitor’s crisp 3,840×1,080 high resolution and ultra-wide screen. We played Project CARS and Need for Speed on the CJ89. On the ultra-widescreen, the racing games felt way more “realistic and exciting” than any other monitor.

The CJ89 provides 144 Hz refresh rate, which is well-suited for gaming purposes. A refresh rate means how many frames a monitor can display in a second. The higher the refresh rate, the smoother the movement of the objects on the screen. The refresh rate of most monitors is 60 Hz, meaning they show 60 frames in a second. On the other hand, the CJ89 shows 144 frames in a second, so the movement of the characters and the change between the scenes were buttery smooth.

It supports 144Hz refresh rate on both windows of the screen, which makes it ideal for enjoying games with friends and family, or playing games while also watching a gaming video on YouTube or reading tips on an online forum.

In particular, the CJ89 has built-in speakers. You can enjoy a profound sound for gaming or watching videos with its 7-watt dual speakers, without having to fork out extra.

The 43-inch CJ89 monitor will be also available in the second half of this year*. If you want to excel in both work and leisure, the CJ89’s capabilities will help you to become a true multiplayer.

*Launch date may vary by region

Finally a viable solution to replace old laptops and desktop computers has arrived on the public safety scene with Samsung DeX in Car technology, making the work environment safer, more flexible and more efficient for police officers in the field by simply using a Samsung flagship Galaxy smartphone and the Samsung DeX service solution that brings an easy-to-use, PC-like experience to mobile handsets.

Bridging the gap between smartphone and desktop, Samsung DeX delivers an in-car computing capability by pairing the latest Galaxy smartphones with a mounted display and dedicated keyboard. By connecting the Samsung Galaxy S8/8+, S9/9+ or Note8 smartphone to DeX Pad or DeX Station, the smartphone functions as the car’s mobile data terminal.

The setup provides an optimal solution for forward-thinking police leaders and public safety professionals who recognize the importance of seamless mobile computing access both in the patrol car and while in the field.

Additionally, Samsung Galaxy smartphones include defense-grade mobile data security powered by Samsung Knox, helping agencies achieve Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance when using the phone alone and with DeX.

“Mobile phones are more than just communication devices,” said Reginald Jones, Director of Public Sector Sales and Solutions. “They’re valuable public safety tools in terms of flexibility, security, efficiency and workplace productivity.”

Samsung DeX in Car helps reduce reliance on pen and pad or bulky in-car computer systems so police officers and other first responders can maintain greater situational awareness of their surroundings at all times, in addition to achieving a more streamlined workload.

With Samsung DeX in Car solution, the transition from a desktop experience inside the patrol car to accessing secure data in real-time while on the move, outside the vehicle, and then back in the station at the desk, is seamless.

The more comfortable viewing format makes full use of a horizontal display instead of stretching a smartphone interface, so officers can work on larger projects like incident reports, suspect identification or crime scene review.

For example, photos, videos and voice recordings gathered in the field on a smartphone are also securely processed on the smartphone, reducing redundant record-keeping when back at the desk. Through a seamless interface, Samsung DeX in Car allows data stored on the officer’s phone to be swiftly and securely transferred. Samsung Galaxy smartphones are armed with Samsung Knox, a platform that keeps the data inside a secure architecture throughout data migration – from gathering it, to processing it, to sharing it through other databases.

“The phone is becoming the critical technology tool for public safety officials, and Samsung DeX enables officers to use their Galaxy smartphone as a laptop replacement in the vehicle and in the station,” Jones said.

Samsung DeX in Car also helps remove some of the guesswork for officers before they respond to incidents. Having a Samsung Galaxy smartphone at the center of their workflow boosts the amount of data officers can receive. Instead of relying on radio transmissions and vague descriptions, officers get high-quality images, detailed reports and real-time updates.

“Samsung DeX offers a better return on investment all around,” said Jones. “It provides more flexibility and more security at a lower cost. The phone is the center point for public safety and using Samsung DeX offers the ultimate in mobility while being a powerful force multiplier for law enforcement officers.”

Today’s smartphones can support so many police operations, and the more an officer can do with a single device, the more they can do in the field to help their community.

The ability to see something on a different scale often offers a new perspective. Launched with the Galaxy S8 and S8+ and now available with the Galaxy Note8, Samsung DeX* lets users use their smartphone like a desktop by providing a seamless, mobile to desktop transition. Now, users have the opportunity to enjoy the best of both worlds in an ever-expanding ecosystem of partnerships, opening up new possibilities for coding, entertainment and productivity.

Out and About with Linux on Galaxy

At last, developers themselves are able to experience a truly mobile development environment.

Linux on Galaxy, an app demonstrated during SDC 2017 in San Francisco, is designed to free developers from their desks by providing a Linux OS environment for their Galaxy smartphone: anywhere, anytime, on-the-move. Smartphones with Linux on Galaxy are capable of having multiple operating systems running at the same time, so developers have the ability to work with their Linux-based distributions of choice on their mobile device, without restrictions. As well as using the Android OS, they can open the app to run any software they require in a Linux OS environment, giving developers the flexibility to choose.

What’s more, Linux on Galaxy is DeX-enabled, meaning that developers can seamlessly move from smartphone to desktop whenever they want to work on a larger screen with a keyboard and mouse.** Currently in its trial stage, Linux on Galaxy is already causing a buzz amongst developers.

Even More Entertainment

Samsung DeX complements the conventional mobile experience. In the world of entertainment, Samsung DeX now offers support for even more mobile games and video streaming services, so users can watch the action come to life on a larger screen.

Samsung’s partnerships with major video game developers such as Super Evil Megacorp’s Vainglory, Game Insight’s Survival Arena, Eric Froemling’s BombSquad and Netmarble’s Lineage 2 Revolution present popular mobile games on the immersive desktop setting through the Samsung Game Launcher app, with a keyboard and mouse for easier gameplay. This allows players to move from mobile to desktop, and back again, without disrupting their gaming experience. In addition, new titles – including Lineage 2 Revolution and Nexon’s AxE – are beginning to support Vulkan API in increasing numbers. The upcoming “mobile title” Square Enix FINAL FANTASY XV POCKET EDITION has been optimized for both Vulkan and DeX, pushing the boundaries of mobile gaming.

With Twitch, users of the video streaming service are provided with a better multitasking experience and can resize the window and play video while running other apps via Samsung DeX.

Powering Productivity

The service doesn’t just enhance mobile entertainment– it also heightens user productivity. Samsung DeX transforms the docked Samsung smartphone into a desktop-like workstation, increasing output for professionals on-the-go.

Users can enjoy an improved email experience—with email clients such as Samsung Email, Samsung Focus, Nine Email and MS Outlook—via an optimized interface with a desktop-like, three-column layout, flexible split view and multi composer.

Likewise, Samsung DeX enables a better collaboration with video conferencing from even more services such as Zoom, BlueJeans and GoToMeeting. Video conferencing has been made simpler with a seamless docking-undocking experience, support for screen and document sharing, and multitasking capabilities that allow the user to stay in the call while taking notes or sending email.

With the Galaxy Note8, the new All Apps user interface offers users a full view of up to 36 of their mobile apps at once, which is an increase from previous view of 25 apps. The enhanced UI makes app access and search more convenient, allowing users to identify and utilize apps faster.

As Samsung continues to expand its partner ecosystem with third-party developers and strives to broaden the use of Linux on its smartphone, the service’s ecosystem will continue to grow organically, offering a wider range of Samsung DeX-optimized apps, features and experiences for Galaxy users across business and entertainment.

* Samsung DeX is compatible with the Galaxy Note8 as well as the Galaxy S8 and S8+

I always get a kick out of brainstorming (sometimes far out ideas, I admit) with my colleagues, constantly questioning what it will take to make our smartphones groundbreaking, yet more valuable and easier for everyone to use. Back in August 2014 one of those brainstorming sessions begged the question; “Can a smartphone really replace a desktop?” After spirited discussion, one of the engineers in the room handed me a piece of paper, on which he drew the following.

The idea he suggested was one where we placed a smartphone on a docking station connected to a monitor. In doing so, we could run all Android apps on the monitor as well as Windows apps using a Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI)* while conveniently interacting with a keyboard and mouse.

The idea was great, but unfortunately, we couldn’t fully realize it back in 2014 due to many obstacles that couldn’t be negotiated easily, such as the limited processing power on the device. However, we kept building on it, refining it and working on prototypes year after year while looking for an opportunity to bring it to our users. The Galaxy S8 is the vehicle that enabled us to introduce our 3-year endeavor, realizing a modest dream, literally born from a piece of paper and some spirited discussion.

We live in a constantly changing mobile world where all the content and information that entertain and inspire us begins and ends with our phones. We surf the web, we watch movies, we play games – all using a device small enough to fit in our pockets. Now, what if you could connect your smartphone to a monitor, keyboard, and mouse and use it like a desktop? Of course, you might have to turn on your desktop for more complex tasks or gaming, but Samsung DeX adds tremendous value by enhancing the mobile experience for the mobile workforce.

And to extend the user experience, Samsung DeX can connect to your TV at home too using an HDMI cable. Galaxy S8’s Infinity Display is a marvelous technical achievement in itself, but connected to your TV, Galaxy S8 with Samsung DeX enables you to play a movie on your TV while also texting your friends or surfing the web on Samsung’s Internet. Now imagine those places you often visit, such as cafés, airports or hotel lounges. With Samsung DeX, all you need is your Galaxy S8 to continue your mobile experience conveniently and securely whether you’re surfing the web, checking your emails, or watching your favorite movies. You don’t have to worry about having to enter your password to login or reveal any personal information using public computers.

It’s with this idea we introduce the values and the vision of Samsung DeX.

Services Made Possible with Hardware and Software, Working Together

In creating Samsung DeX, we focused heavily on how hardware and software will work together to provide a seamless user experience. While Samsung Electronics’ pursuit of excellence in software and services is evident, we understand the importance of creating new opportunities and capabilities using the hardware our customers love and trust.

For example, the 10-nano application processor (Aps) used in the Galaxy S8 provides a performance level equivalent to PCs. Additionally, the Galaxy S8’s USB type-C technology enables transmitting video and images to the monitor faster while maintaining high fidelity.

The DeX Station, Samsung DeX’s companion product, is ergonomically designed for the Galaxy S8 to create a completely different mobile experience. The high performance and innovation of the Galaxy S8 has enabled the simplified desktop experience of Samsung DeX. We will continue to strive to build and improve services for Samsung DeX, taking full advantage of our strength in hardware and our fresh approach to software development.

Service That Grows with Partners and Developers

I believe the days are long gone when a single provider can develop, release, and operate innovative services all by itself. Creating win-win partnerships and collaborating for mutual benefit is key to success in today’s fast moving, hypercompetitive market. Samsung DeX embodies that very principle.

Our partnerships with Microsoft and Hancom bring the best Samsung DeX user experience to the applications our users are familiar with. Adobe, well known for Photoshop among many other products, is a launch partner of ours, as are Citrix, VMware, and Amazon, who are providing VDI services. We maximized key Android features and capabilities and built the optimized user experience for Samsung DeX based on Android 7.0. Moreover, Samsung DeX doesn’t require developers to do anything specific for applications to be compatible. Any applications developed with the Android 7.0 developer’s guide in mind will run on Samsung DeX, bringing a desktop-like experience to users. We have a dedicated website for developers, which I invite you to visit, share, and to collaborate with us.

Services with Vision – Breaking the Boundaries of Smartphones

All of our latest services offerings including Bixby, Samsung DeX and Samsung Connect share a common vision of pushing the boundaries that exist with smartphones. When our full vision for Bixby is realized, I believe Bixby will break the boundaries of touch-based interfaces with intuitive voice interactions enhanced by AI.

Samsung DeX opens up a new world that frees our users from the boundaries of a small screen. It provides individuals with an option to view and enjoy content on a larger screen, and interact with others more conveniently with a keyboard and mouse. In other words, Samsung DeX expands how users interact with their devices through enabling a totally new mobile experience.

With Samsung Connect, our users can control and monitor digital appliances and devices across their home, big or small. Our services are all envisioned, developed, and supported based on this principle of expanding and breaking new boundaries.

Let’s imagine, for a moment, what the future holds. At home, while streaming your favorite movie on your big screen TV from your smartphone via Samsung DeX, you could tell Bixby, “It feels too warm in here.” Bixby would intelligently understand you and turns on the air-conditioning with the help of Samsung Connect. What we propose here at Samsung, is a smarter life with your mobile phone at its center. With the dream that was Samsung DeX now fully realized, I firmly believe we are approaching the edge of a new mobile frontier much sooner than we think.

*Cloud based services that enable a virtualized operating system image to be used in PCs or smartphones

Samsung DeX is a new service that lets users use their smartphone like a desktop by providing a seamless, secure mobile to PC transition. Currently compatible with Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+*, Samsung DeX provides an Android-based, desktop-like experience that enables users to seamlessly access mobile apps, edit documents and browse the web. Furthermore, its optimized interface allows users to easily multitask, watch videos in resizable windows, reply to messages via a task bar and more, directly from their smartphone on a larger display using a keyboard and mouse.

A Convenient Mobile Desktop Experience

To get started with Samsung DeX, users simply need to connect the DeX Station, Samsung’s branded docking station, to any FHD (16:9 ratio) supported display with an HDMI port; connect any Bluetooth-enabled, USB or RF-type keyboard and mouse to their phone; connect the DeX Station with a Samsung branded fast charger; and dock their Galaxy S8 in the DeX Station. Once connected, their mobile phone will switch to Samsung DeX mode.

The Samsung DeX interface is easily navigable and consistent with most desktops, as it supports keyboard and mouse gestures such as shortcuts, scrolling and drag and drop. Furthermore, with the ability to quickly shift between applications and adjust application window size with ease, users can see a range of contents all at once and multitask with efficiency.

Meanwhile, the Samsung DeX Home Screen’s Task Bar allows users to see which applications are currently running, while pop-up notifications on the bottom right of the screen notify the user of incoming messages and calls without blocking the screen.

Optimized for Productivity

Samsung DeX’s intuitive applications and services help to maximize productivity by allowing people to work more efficiently whenever and wherever they want.

For example, four Samsung applications are equipped with enhanced features that work in Samsung DeX. Samsung Internet, Samsung’s native browser app, lets users launch the desktop version of websites in multiple windows simultaneously, while MyFiles allows convenient dragging and dropping of files and documents from one folder to another. Gallery makes it easier to browse images with a mouse and keyboard and Samsung e-mail facilitates digital correspondence by letting users easily attach files by dragging and dropping them to the email composer.

Key collaborations with Microsoft and Adobe provide Samsung DeX compatibility with Microsoft Office applications like Word, Excel and PowerPoint, and Adobe mobile apps including the Adobe Acrobat Reader and Lightroom mobile apps. These applications provide desktop-like functionality and a user interface previously unavailable from a smartphone.

Whether making side-by-side price comparisons on shopping websites, editing photos while browsing images in Gallery or chatting with a colleague while editing a presentation, Samsung DeX enables an easier, faster and smarter way to get things done.

A Mobile Workspace Solution

Because the data from their smartphone is only displayed on the monitor, and not transferred from the mobile device, enterprise users can rest assured knowing their information is safe when using Samsung DeX. Furthermore, while connected to the DeX Station, the smartphone continues to be secured by the Samsung Knox security platform, which provides protection against potential threats.

Samsung DeX also allows mobile workers and business professionals to remotely and securely access virtual apps and desktops through partner solutions including Citrix, VMware and Amazon Web Services, whose apps are optimized for Samsung DeX with keyboard and mouse interactions, full screen mode and resizable window capabilities.

The DeX Station contains an HDMI port, two USB 2.0 ports, an Ethernet port, USB type-C power-in and a cooling fan. Additionally, Samsung DeX utilizes Adaptive Fast Charging (AFC) technology to charge the smartphone while in DeX mode.

Samsung DeX will be available globally at the launch of the Galaxy S8 and S8+.

* Compatibility will be expanded to support other devices in the future.
