At the 2018 Electronic Entertainment Expo (‘E3’) in LA this June, Samsung QLED TVs were exhibited as part of Microsoft’s Xbox booth. The 75-inch QLED TV screens caught the attention of keen gamers, with a long queue forming in order to enter the showroom. Players enjoyed an unparalleled 4K HDR gaming experience, featuring stunning graphics and quick response times, with the QLED.

Samsung’s 2018 QLED TVs have evolved to merit the title of the ‘monster’ of the gaming industry. They offer gamers a low input lag of no more than 15ms (0.015 seconds), a rich viewing experience achieved by 100% color volume and High Dynamic Range (HDR) 2000, and Radeon FreeSync for the seamless playing of even the most demanding games.

Fighting Input Lag in FPS Games

Input lag can be a critical issue for those players who want to enjoy fast-paced games like first-person shooters (FPS) or fighting games. Input lag, or input latency, is the delay between the TV or monitor receiving a signal and it being displayed on the screen, or the delay between pressing a controller button and seeing the game react. It is important in gaming because even a 0.01 second reaction difference can determine the difference between a winning and losing move in an FPS game.

Samsung’s QLED TVs have input lag reduced to 15ms (1ms = 0.001 seconds), faster than conventional TVs which have a 20-30ms lag on average. Gamers can fully immerse themselves in games on their QLED TVs with minimal lag. QLED TV’s Auto Game Mode also changes features including response speed for game optimization. When users start a game on a console such as Xbox, the TV automatically recognizes the game and sets the correct game-related settings.

Optimized Picture Quality for Immersive Gaming

Today’s games are characterized by feature film-quality storylines, cinematography and graphics. Game characters and avatars are becoming more and more lifelike, as are the landscapes around them, often offered in full 360-degree rotation to the player for the most immersive experience possible.

In order to deliver this virtual realism to gamers, game platforms feature the latest in color, contrast and imaging technology, as well as 144Hz refresh rates for high frame-rate gaming. Samsung’s 2018 QLED TVs are the first in the TV industry to use Radeon FreeSync in collaboration with global graphics card maker AMD. Radeon FreeSync puts an end to choppy gameplay and broken frames, bringing smooth gaming and the fluidity of gaming monitors to the big screen.

With the Samsung QLED TV, gamers can experience the cutting-edge display performance they are used to. The QLED TVs feature HDR10+ for crisp and detailed images, as well as 100% color volume for greater image depth in both the day and nighttime, at any brightness level. Samsung’s Anti-reflection technology is another bonus for reducing eye strain and optimizing gameplay.

Enjoy Over 15,000 PC games with Steam on TVs

As well as their favorite console games, users can also play Steam games on their QLED TV. Steam is an online game platform with over 120 million users globally.

In order for QLED users to enjoy the full offering of the Steam platform, all they need to do is head to the Samsung Smart Hub and download the free Steam Link app. No supplementary hardware is necessary for users to be able to access the 15,000+ games offered by Steam on the large-inch QLED screen.

In addition, gamers don’t need to bother with changing the settings on their QLED TV in order to access their favorite console games. Just turn on Auto Game Mode and start your console.

No Screen Burn-In, Guaranteed

TV screens suffer from performance decline over time, with static images and fixed interfaces leading to image retention and consequently the burn-in issue. With Samsung QLED TVs, however, you no longer need to worry about burn-in.

Rtings, an industry-trusted US TV Reviewer, ran a test for permanent image retention. Different kinds of TVs were kept on for 10 minutes, running a test pattern in a loop. The 2017 QLED TV scored 10/10 for image quality and lack of burn-in, while some screens achieved a mere 5/10.

The durability of the QLED TV screen is due to groundbreaking Quantum Dot technology. Quantum dots are made of inorganic materials, which translates to longer-lasting displays that do not develop the burn-in issue. Displaying the same image or scene for long periods of time will not leave unpleasant ghost images on your QLED TV, enhancing the gaming experience.

“Today’s TVs are like all-round players. More and more, people are enjoying everything on TV such as games, the internet, or smart functions provided by IoT,” said Jongsuk Chu, Senior Vice President of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. “The huge-screen QLED TV with best performance and durability will take the gaming experience to the next level.”

From real-time relay broadcasts of live gaming competitions to enhanced online, PC and console game options, Samsung Smart TVs, including the full Samsung QLED TV lineup, have been attracting gamers and TV lovers alike as a comprehensive entertainment hub for gaming and other media services.

Real-time Relay Broadcasts of Live Game Competitions

Starting this week, Samsung will begin offering real-time relay broadcast services for popular games including Battleground, StarCraft and League of Legend (LOL) in the U.S., Canada, and Korea for owners of Samsung Smart TVs released after 2015. With Samsung partnering with popular Korean P2P technology-based video streaming company AfreecaTV, the service will allow viewers to enjoy live competitions of professional games streamed in the highest resolution on Samsung Smart TVs once the AfreecaTV app is installed.

Among the regular live broadcasts, Korean StarCraft leagues feature as a highlight of the service with their contribution to the global e-sports phenomenon. Samsung Smart TVs users will be able to enjoy StarCraft league games remastered in UHD resolution, in addition to several other games. The real-time broadcast service will also be subsequently launched in other European and Asian countries from early next year.

Enhanced Gaming Options

Samsung is expanding its Smart TV services to ensure users can enjoy more games. The Samsung Smart TV Smart Hub menu has a “Gamefly” service that contains more than 100 games including casual, shooting (FPS: First-Person Shooter), sports, real-time strategy (RTS), role-playing (RPG) and other genre titles. Users can play simple casual games with a remote control or smartphone, and more intensive RTS and RPG titles by plugging in a game controller.

Also, in collaboration with Valve, Samsung has launched the Steam Link app enabling Steam subscribers to enjoy thousands of PC games directly on their Samsung Smart TV screens. Users can play Steam games on their Samsung Smart TVs by activating the Steam Link app, and after their TV and PC have been connected to one another via wired or wireless internet connection. After launching in August 2017, the service is currently available in 55 countries including the U.S. and U.K.

Finally, Samsung recently announced an exclusive U.S. marketing and retail partnership with Microsoft to utilize Samsung QLED TVs as the official 4K TV partner for the highly-anticipated Xbox One X. The partnership kicked off at E3 (Electronic Entertainment Expo) 2017 in June as attendees experienced, for the first time ever, breathtaking 4K HDR gaming on Xbox One X and Samsung QLED TVs. Gamers will be able to experience the power of Xbox One X on QLED TVs at various Xbox and Samsung marketing and retail activations throughout the U.S. Consumers will also see a custom Samsung TV spot showcasing Xbox One X and QLED TV together that will run nationally around the launch of Xbox One X this fall.

Samsung QLED TV, a Game Lover’s TV

Samsung QLED TV continues to win attention from across the gaming industry for its game-optimized features, including best-in-class 4K HDR screen, short input lag of 20 ms (millisecond) and the ability ensure longtime game play with no image retention or burn-in. In addition, Samsung QLED TV automatically recognizes peripheral devices connected to the TV, and also consolidates the usual tangle of multiple, complex cables into one single, transparent optical fiber cable. The TV also offers voice recognition technology via its remote control so users can easily initiate the TV’s game mode to enjoy optimized graphics and sounds.

As Samsung’s Smart TV technology, and QLED TV lineup, continue to trail blaze the industry, Samsung will continue to push the boundaries of a TV to a comprehensive entertainment hub for enjoying and consuming various types of content.

Samsung Electronics has embraced the Vulkan API for its mobile-based gaming, bringing more robust and responsive performance and power efficiency to gaming on the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge. During the this year’s E3 gameshow, with the demonstration of three cutting-edge games based on the Vulkan API, the benefits this API brings to the gaming experience are now clear for all to see.

With this video, you can see for yourself the increased possibilities Vulkan brings to the gaming world. In EA’s Need for Speed: No Limits, Nexon’s Heroes of Incredible Tales (HIT), and Super Evil Megacorp’s Vainglory, each game is noticeably more detailed and responsive, so gamers can enjoy them all at a deeper level.

OpenGL has been an important standard in the industry for more than 25 years. But changes in technology—in particular the rising power of GPUs—have created the need for a new API with more flexibility and portability, which led to the release of Vulkan 1.0 in February. With simpler drivers, Vulkan reduces CPU bottlenecks, allows the use of multiple CPUs for increased performance, and reduces hitches and other surprises.

Compared to OpenGL ES, the Vulkan API increases GPU performance while lowering CPU load. The result is more detailed graphics and more responsive gaming, making games more immersive and engaging for users.

In order to making gaming on the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge as exciting and engaging as possible, Samsung has worked actively with its partners, helping them understand the smartphones and Vulkan API.

“Samsung has been a great partner for us in importing our games to Vulkan,” said Tommy Krul, Chief Technology Officer at Super Evil Megacorp. “We actually had engineers from Samsung right here in our office helping us port Vainglory to Vulkan and really squeeze out all the performance we can.”

Together with Samsung and the Vulkan API, Super Evil Megacorp was able to create games with 30 percent faster performance, increased rendering of images on the screen and improved battery life.

“Microsecond fidelity on our devices is essential, because we need players to be able to perform at their max capacity,” said Stephan Sherman, Chief Creative Officer at Super Evil Megacorp. “It’s essential that they have a device that is going to be able to keep up with them. Vulkan and Samsung devices are built for performance. They’re built for lightning fast, blinding speed, that perfect alacrity between touch and action.”

And to take that relationship to the next level, this year Super Evil Megacorp teamed up with Samsung at the E3 to present the Samsung Galaxy Vainglory Invitational tournament Four of the best competitive Vainglory teams from around the world competed in front of a live audience in the 2-day competition. The matches between Team Solomid from USA, G2 esports from Germany, Hunters from China and Invincible Armada from Korea were very intense. In the end, Invincible Armada took home the victory, with Team Solomid coming in at second place.

As the usage of smart devices grows, mobile gaming is also becoming more and more popular. Many top-ranked items in mobile app stores are gaming apps, and tech blogs and magazines are researching and evaluating the best smartphones for mobile gaming.

Game Recorder+ gives game-lovers a utility to record and share the things that are important to them, like their new high score. Game Recorder+ is a free app offered through Google Play and the Galaxy App store. A “floating” UI is overlaid on top of any game also available through the two stores, to enhance gaming experience. The ‘floating’ UI doesn’t require any rooting and is safe and easy. Users can choose resolution and bitrate speeds, and Game Recorder+ optimizes device memory when running for a smoother gaming experience

Best Features

Game Recorder+ can record any games up to full HD 1080p resolution.

Users can trim the video after recording.

Users can use the front-facing camera and built-in microphone to record their commentary over the game audio. Users can also upload a profile photo to disable the front camera when recording. The size of the profile image is adjustable.

Touch interactions can be recorded.

Users can upload their videos directly to YouTube. For countries with no access to YouTube, such as China, users can save their videos to a gallery and upload them to other platforms.

Galaxy S6 and S6 edge users can record noise-free gaming audio, which disables the microphone.

Every game can be optimized using “Game Boost,” which maximizes memory usage.

Available on smart devices powered by Android 4.1~5.0 (Jelly Bean, KitKat, Lollipop)

Game Recorder+ is available on Galaxy S6, S6 edge, Galaxy S5, Note 4, S4, Note 3 and Note 2 in 161 countries. Game Recorder+ can be experienced at E3 2015, the world’s premier trade show for computer, video and mobile games.
