Samsung Electronics is showcasing the latest diagnostic imaging medical equipment and AI-based solutions at ECR 2019 – European Congress of Radiology in Vienna, Austria. At booth #406 (Expo. X4), Samsung is displaying a variety of diagnostic imaging equipment, especially, the X-ray zone, which was designed and inspired by pediatric wards, features a new low dose imaging processing engine for children.

“We are pleased that Samsung’s AI technologies have been successfully applied to the existing diagnostic imaging devices and have been well received in the market,” said Dongsoo Jun, President of Health & Medical Equipment Business at Samsung Electronics and CEO of Samsung Medison. “Samsung will continue to deliver on our promise of fast, easy and accurate diagnostic solutions for our customers in the healthcare community.”

Samsung is continuing to expand its boundaries in finding new solutions in radiology ultrasound. At ECR 2019, Samsung will introduce its solutions for breast screening and real-time streaming solutions in ultrasound including:

■ Breast Screening Solutions

S-Detect for Breast is an AI-based software which analyzes breast lesions using ultrasound images. It assists in standardizing reports and classification of suspicious breast lesions by incorporating BI-RADS® ATLAS (Breast Imaging-Reporting and Data System, Atlas) into the tool. When the user selects a region of interest, S-Detect for Breast analyzes the selected lesion and provides lexicon classification options with a streamlined workflow.

S-Shearwave Imaging allows for non-invasive measurement of the stiffness of tissue/lesions in the breast, by providing an advanced level of diagnostic information. The color-coded elastogram, quantitative measurements (in kPa or m/s) are especially useful to healthcare professionals for making an accurate diagnosis of breast diseases. The reliability of the result is highly improved by providing the RMI (Reliable Measurement Index)

MV-Flow offers a novel alternative to Color Doppler for visualizing slow flow microvascularized structures. High frame rates and advanced filtering enable MV-Flow to provide a detailed view of blood flow in relation to surrounding tissue or pathology of suspicious breast lesions.

ElastoScan+ is an ultrasound technology for imaging elasticity. It detects the presence of solid breast masses in tissues and converts any stiffness into color images. Samsung provides semi-quantification assessment designed to enable quick and easy calculation of the strain ratio.

■ Real-time Ultrasound Image Sharing Solution

SonoSync provides a real-time streaming network service that overcomes the spatial limitations of conventional ultrasound exam operations. Compared with general video sharing solutions, it also has the advantage of supporting bidirectional communication such as voice chat and marking. With SonoSync, clinicians on both sides can simultaneously review the shared images and have discussions during the examination. SonoSync can be simply used without any additional hardware for ultrasound scanners and can be easily connected with various devices such as smartphones, tablets, laptops, and desktop PCs.

Samsung recently announced that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved pediatric low dose across its entire digital X-ray portfolio.

“We are excited to expand our commitment on patient safety with the addition of U.S. FDA clearance for pediatric low dose that may improve dose care without compromise to image quality,” said Insuk Song, Senior Vice President of Health & Medical Equipment Business at Samsung Electronics. “Samsung is constantly working on pediatric-centric innovation to uphold ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) principle for minimizing radiation dose. Our dedication to pediatric care conveys the effort keep the long-term safety of children who are more sensitive to radiation and its cumulative effect.”

■ Dose Less Care More: From The Very Start

S-Vue delivers high-resolution images through advanced processing technology. Especially, spatially adaptive multi-scale processing and advanced de-noising technology preserve the image quality at high standards despite the reduced dose of radiation. The advanced noise reduction algorithm in the S-Vue imaging processing engine cuts dosage by 45% to a low dose level for pediatric abdomen exams without sacrificing image quality1.

Without worries of additional settings or exposure, you can easily improve the clarity of the clinical images to boost your diagnostic confidence empowered by Samsung’s unique post-processing feature, SimGrid.

SimGrid allows you to provide better patient care with higher satisfaction and reduced retake rates without the use of a portable grid. It improves image contrast by reducing scatter radiation effects and creates better image quality.

Samsung is also presenting the mobile CT OmniTom® and a prototype of Extremity MRI using Media Wall.

At the AI room of the event, visitors can learn about Samsung’s AI technology more easily. Samsung will also host a satellite symposium that will present clinical research using Samsung’s contrast-enhanced ultrasound technology and Pediatric DR Imaging for Patient Safety.
