At this year’s IFA exhibition, Samsung is exhibiting an array of lifestyle-focused innovations that make it easy for European consumers to add more convenience to daily life.

The household appliances and products featured in Samsung’s booth combine state-of-the-art technologies, which simplify everything from preparing meals to communicating with family, with elegant designs that seamlessly enhance their surroundings’ aesthetics.

The result is a lineup of innovations whose performance and versatility are truly reflective of families’ needs.

Catered to European Tastes

The booth’s Social Kitchen showcases contemporary kitchen suites assembled with the help of acclaimed European kitchen specialists.

These include suites designed by Nolte, a premium kitchen brand that has been rated Germany’s most popular for two years running*; Marbodal, a Northern European brand of the Nobia Group that is known for functional and stylish designs; and Veneta Cucine, Italy’s largest kitchen manufacturer, which utilizes premium materials and the latest technologies to create thoroughly modern and beautiful kitchens.

The suites have been designed with a focus on performance and luxury, and feature some of Samsung’s latest ovens, cooktops, hoods, dishwashers and refrigerators. Nolte and Marbodal’s suites also feature Samsung’s Family Hub refrigerator, an IoT-connected kitchen control center that allows families to streamline everything from meals and food management, to entertainment and communication.

In addition, in a particularly tasty demonstration of Samsung’s appliances’ ability to modernize consumers’ kitchens, early on at IFA 2017, Nolte’s suite served as the setting for a special Club des Chefs cooking show, in which Michelin-starred members of Samsung’s culinary club whipped up world-class cuisine for attendees.

Exploring New Ways to Enhance Consumers’ Lifestyles

The booth’s Lifestyle Zone showcases Samsung innovations that allow families to transform their TV into the centerpiece of their living room.

Samsung’s latest lifestyle TV, The Frame, resembles a true work of art. The TV features an elegant frame design as well as a dedicated Art Mode that allows it to display photos and true-to-life renditions of paintings when powered off.

The Frame Gallery showcases the display’s ability to introduce more beauty into consumers’ lives, and invites guests to view impeccable digital depictions of artworks curated from museums around the world, including Spain’s Prado Museum, the U.K.’s Saatchi Gallery, and Germany’s Lumas Gallery.

The contents of the gallery span ten categories, and include a total of 100 stunning works from 37 renowned artists – all of which are available for users to access and enjoy via The Frame’s Samsung Collection feature. Samsung also plans to expand the library of artworks available in The Frame’s Art Store from over 450 to over a thousand.

By curating a world-class collection, and allowing users to exhibit their own photos and images through the TV’s My Collection feature, Samsung is making it easier for consumers to enhance their homes with exceptional art.

The Lifestyle Zone also highlights exciting customizations for Samsung’s latest TVs, including The Frame and QLED TV. Among them are the five finalists of the QLED TV stand design competition, which Samsung organized with leading design and architectural magazine Dezeen.

Exhibited to their left are unique customization options for The Frame that have been crafted by acclaimed Dutch design duo Scholten & Baijings, as well as French designer Inga Sempé.

The former’s art and bezel design is distinguished by its striking use of minimalist lines. The latter’s is a dynamic and colorful blend of flowing lines that evokes liveliness and movement. Some may liken its aesthetic to a breeze blowing through a field. However, like many works of art, interpretations vary depending on the viewer’s perspective.

Check out Samsung’s complete range of lifestyle-focused innovations in the photos below.

The Frame Revolutionizes TV Design

“This year, UHD became the most decisive factor for television purchases for the very first time, according to gfu1. And yet for Samsung, better television is not just about brilliant picture quality, but a better TV experience in every respect.

“With QLED, we have introduced a TV category that convinces thanks to Quantum dot technology, UHD, HDR, and a peak brightness of up to 2,000 nits. And where ease of use is concerned, Samsung sets standards with the Smart Hub and Premium Smart remote. Viewers can access any content they want in just three clicks – even from external players. QLED TVs are literally more beautiful televisions, with their clever wall mounts, cable solutions and stands.

“With The Frame, we are transforming the television into a canvas for digital art. The designer TV combines interior design with current smart TV technology, and evokes the aesthetic reserve of a picture frame.”

Kai Hillebrandt, Vice President of Consumer Electronics, Samsung Electronics GmbH

Clear User Menus – The Comprehensive Samsung Interface

“Technology is meant to make life easier. But while the capabilities of smartphones, PCs, refrigerators and washing machines continue to increase in the Internet of Things era, their operation is also becoming ever more complex.

“With Samsung, the technology adapts to the person, and not the other way around. To simplify the daily lives of consumers and enterprises, we carry out trend studies on consumer behaviors and apply the findings when developing the next smartphones, televisions and home appliances.

“We are thus continuously improving how users interact with our products – be it via gesture, touch, gaze or voice. The result is an all-embracing design language for Samsung’s Smart TVs, the Smart View app, smartphones, tablets, our Family Hub 2.0 refrigerators, and many other appliances.”

Kai Hillebrandt, Vice President of Consumer Electronics, Samsung Electronics GmbH

Perfect Sound to Match the Picture – Samsung Soundbars Bring Cinema Sound to the Living Room

“Connectivity and immersive listening are the big audio trends of 2017. This because a successful home cinema experience not only calls for a brilliant picture, but also luscious sound.

“Samsung’s QLED TVs revolutionize picture quality with UHD and HDR. MPEG-H stands for a new sound experience. The new technology permits every audio track to be individually modified and purposefully adjusted in live broadcasts.

“Easy and fast access to music from anywhere in the house is also becoming ever more important for consumers. Two thirds of German consumers, for example, desire clean TV setups2 – a clear rejection of complex 7.1 systems and loudspeaker cables.

“With the HW-MS750 Flat Soundbar Sound+, Samsung has already combined a soundbar and subwoofer in a single slim soundbar casing – without any additional speakers or external cables. The Samsung HW-MS950 soundbar, powered by Dolby Atmos, makes sound even more flexible while placing the viewer at the center of the sound experience. The sound can be precisely moved and placed in three-dimensional space, also above the viewer’s head. Dolby Atmos makes home cinema entertainment come alive, and turns it into an intense and emotional experience with a clear and profoundly detailed soundscape.”

Kai Hillebrandt, Vice President of Consumer Electronics, Samsung Electronics GmbH

Untethered Music – The Galaxy S8 with UHQ Audio

“Music is also enjoyed on the go these days. Be it in the fitness studio, on the train, in the kitchen or garden – users always have their soundtrack with them, on their smartphone or streamed from the web. “With its Ultra High Quality (UHQ) audio technology, Samsung takes music enjoyment to a new level. It also enables high-quality sound on the road and supports digital recording at up to 32 bit/384 kHz. The audio files are not compressed, and can even be extrapolated.

“This way, music lovers can enjoy the entire sound spectrum of music sources in CD quality – or even higher, for example, with FLAC files or high-quality streaming. The technology is deployed in Bluetooth speakers, high-quality AKG headphones, ultra-light headsets, and even smartphones – the Galaxy S8 and S8+.”

Martin Börner, Deputy President, Samsung Electronics GmbH

UHD and HDR – QLED TV Creates a Visual Experience That’s Ready for the Big Screen

“UHD is conquering the mass market, as more and more consumers have become captivated by the ultra-realistic visual experiences enabled by UHD and HDR. High resolution is the most decisive factor for television buyers today3.

“A still larger leap is provided by HDR technology, helping today’s televisions achieve pictures that are extremely rich in contrast. The expanded color space becomes even more apparent in a direct comparison. Thanks to its unique suitability for HDR10 content, Samsung’s QLED technology represents the TV experience of the future.

“What’s especially impressive is the brightness of the Quantum dot displays. QLED TVs are extremely bright, with peak values of up to 2,000 nits, and offer the user intensively radiant, lifelike colors even in bright daylight. In doing so, QLED TVs follow the standards for digital cinema, and are able to cover 100 percent of the DCI-P3 cinema color space. That is a decisive point for consumers, as HDR will change the TV experience forever. It is thus not without reason that we are talking about a new product category when referring to QLED TV.”

Kai Hillebrandt, Vice President of Consumer Electronics, Samsung Electronics GmbH

Virtual Reality – Gear VR Makes the New Media Age Accessible for All

“Virtual reality and 360-degree video have introduced a completely new media experience to the mass market, and Samsung is a pioneer in these areas. Take social VR, for example. The technology is tangibly affecting our behavior on social networks. Today, we take our followers along in 360 degrees when we go to a concert or climb a mountain. They can then share in the adventure live with their VR headset or on a Samsung smart TV.

“Samsung is one of the first companies to have made these fascinating new experiences broadly available to the public, with its Gear VR headsets and Gear 360 cameras, and is a pioneer for this new media age.

“We have sold over 1.1 million VR devices in Europe since 2015, and already more than 5 million worldwide. This clearly shows that the interest in this technology is huge. It will fundamentally change the way we tell and experience visual stories.”

Martin Börner, Deputy President, Samsung Electronics GmbH

Benefitting Your Health – A Fitter Lifestyle with Samsung Gear

“Fitness wearables have become the norm in the shortest space of time, providing a perfect example of how quickly technologies can transform our lives. This is exactly what our motto for this year’s IFA expresses: “the new normal”. We have long since stopped talking about the measurement of the self instead of a new relationship with our body.

“Wearables change our awareness for a healthy life through their ability to monitor the wearer’s fitness activities, and optimize their efforts with the help of apps.

Samsung has been actively working to shape this trend for five years now with new innovations such as our Samsung Gear smartwatches. We will be experiencing this kind of rapid societal development brought on by technologies more often in the future, as trends spread with ever greater speed these days, not least of all thanks to social media.”

Alexander Zeeh, Director Home Appliances, Samsung Electronics GmbH

Networking in the Household – The Family Hub 2.0 Refrigerator as a Family Manager

“The market for household appliances is growing, and we see ourselves in a very good position to benefit from this growth. Samsung is banking on brilliant, dependable innovations that let us make household chores easier for our customers, and often help them reclaim some time. The industry-wide trend towards connected home appliances has an important part to play in this. We always take a close look at what people need in their day-to-day life, and develop products that meet their needs.

“With Family Hub, a smart refrigerator with an integrated LCD display, we have pooled our know-how in screen technologies, networking, and ease of use in the area of cooling to turn the kitchen into a modern communication center with the fridge as family manager. This is where food is organized, messages are exchanged, and schedules are compared.

“The fridge’s next generation, Family Hub 2.0, caters to the needs of every family member even more individually. Using personal user profiles, the entire family can now also exchange to-do lists or send messages to the refrigerator display on the go.

“The Smart Home App can also be used to control other compatible household appliances, such as a washing machine for example, by way of the user’s smartphone or the refrigerator screen.”

Yoon Lee, the Senior Vice President and Head of the Product Innovation Team and Head of Content and Services at Samsung Electronics America, is driven to create products that harness the power of IoT to offer users meaningful solutions.

At CES 2017, Samsung showcased its latest devices designed to deliver a peerless smart home experience, including its upgraded Family Hub refrigerators. Here, Lee discusses the development process that’s yielded Family Hub 2.0.

Q: First, how do you identify specific aspects of consumers’ lives to design new products and services around?

Yoon Lee: If you can identify a pain point and create a meaningful solution, then that’s a very good start.

Pain points come in two flavors: obvious and latent. Latent pain points come as a pleasant surprise – that feeling of, ‘Oh, I never knew I had this pain point until I used this product.’ Because consumers don’t know what they don’t know, it’s up to us, through mountains of data and behavioral research, to come up with hypotheses that will lead to insight.

A good example is backup cameras in cars. When they first came out, many saw them as a solution that few would care about. But now, the technology is in such a mature state and so integral, that if it were suddenly taken away, you’d feel extremely uncomfortable. With latent needs, you don’t really know they’re there until you have a solution, but once you have one, you don’t really want to go back.

Q: What are some of the key insights you gained when exploring modern consumers’ latent kitchen needs?

Yoon Lee: The role of the kitchen has changed dramatically over the last decade or two. In the past, it was a space where people prepared meals. Now, it’s where families congregate, manage their schedules, enjoy entertainment, socialize and eat. The kitchen has moved away from a food-centric role to more of a family command center.

You therefore don’t want to create a food product; you want to create a ‘kitchen product’. If you think about what a kitchen product is, there are three pillars: in the kitchen, people have food, family-related activities and fun. These are the areas Samsung wants to cater to for consumers and create meaningful solutions around.

Q: How does Family Hub’s design cater to food, family and fun?

Yoon Lee: In the past, if you looked at food, family and fun in the kitchen, there were lots of ad-hoc solutions. ‘Family’ could be magnets and Post-its on your refrigerator, a tablet, or a computer in your kitchen, while ‘fun’ could be a kitchen TV.

Samsung was looking for a seamless platform to shape the kitchen’s role in a meaningful way, and the refrigerator was a natural choice. After all, if there’s one device in your home where if it gets turned off, you’re devastated, it’s the refrigerator. There isn’t a better platform for managing your lifestyle in the kitchen.

To best manage your ‘connected’ lifestyle, you also need an interface that can handle physical and virtual activities, and a touch-based screen easily accommodates that. So these were key insights that helped Samsung develop a refrigerator that could serve as a modern ‘kitchen device’.

Q: How has Family Hub 2.0 been enhanced to create a better kitchen experience?

Yoon Lee: One important aspect of Family Hub 2.0 is that it’s changed from a hardware platform to a software platform, which means it’s expandable, adaptable, and caters to evolution.

This means the solutions Samsung is offering around food, family and fun can get better over time; the product can become more relevant to your lifestyle; Samsung will be able to incorporate more partnerships; and the solutions can become more elegant.

Family Hub 2.0 offers more flexibility and functionality to help consumers better manage their lives and their household products. And for an even more convenient kitchen experience, Samsung’s advanced voice technology has also been integrated across Family Hub 2.0’s apps.

Q: What are some applications you could see in Family Hub’s future that could further streamline users’ ‘connected’ lifestyles?

Yoon Lee: I’d like to see smart homes become part of the Family Hub solution, so users can control appliances, smart things and IoT solutions throughout their home from their Family Hub refrigerator.

For instance, now, if you’re in the kitchen and the doorbell rings, with a ‘connected’ doorbell, you have to pull out your phone to see who’s there. Instead of that, let’s say while you’re cooking the image shows up on your refrigerator.

If you have a baby monitor and your baby starts crying, the current solution is, again, to pull out your phone or a separate baby monitor. If the image popped up on your Family Hub refrigerator, that would be another elegant solution. So there are many meaningful use cases where this kind of connected technology could play a big role in the future.

When Samsung introduced its Family Hub refrigerators at last year’s CES, it did so with the goal of bringing new standards of convenience and innovation to consumers’ kitchens.

Family Hub 2.0 features key enhancements designed to take user experiences in the kitchen to a new level, including advanced voice functionality, user profiles, a streamlined interface and an expanded catalogue of built-in contents.

Samsung’s Vice President of Smart Appliances and Home IoT, Sunggy Koo, elaborated on Family Hub’s role, and explained how Samsung will build on the industry-leading IoT technology in the future.

The Next Step for the Smart Home

Samsung designed the Family Hub refrigerator to bring new levels of functionality to the appliance and ultimately transform its role in the kitchen.

Featuring a large touchscreen display and innovative features for food management, family communication and entertainment, Family Hub offers families a fun command center at the center of the home.

Koo explained Samsung’s commitment to building an ecosystem of connected, smart appliances centered around the kitchen-enriching refrigerator line.

“Family Hub is the center of Samsung’s smart home/IoT initiative,” Koo explained. “Samsung continues to innovate in these areas, and we expect to deliver more smart capabilities across all of our appliances and smart home infrastructure.”

Connecting More Kitchens

The first step in delivering more value to users’ kitchens is creating a wide selection of options to suit a variety of households. “Our users are all different, and have different needs, wants and tastes,” said Koo.

“To meet a variety of customer needs, Family Hub 2.0 takes flexibility and functionality to new levels, offering food management, family communication, entertainment features and voice capability to help consumers manage and enjoy their lives,” Koo continued.

Accordingly, Family Hub 2.0 will soon be available in more markets across the globe, and also see an expansion in its selection of available models. Family Hub 2.0 will encompass a full range of Samsung’s three- and four-door French Door refrigerator models, as well as its existing 4-Door Flex lineup, bringing the total number of available models from four to ten.

‘Easier and More Fun’

Going forward, Family Hub 2.0 and the line’s future generations will, as Koo put it, “continue to make consumers’ lives easier and more fun.”

Family Hub 2.0’s ‘fun’ aspects stem not only from its innovative entertainment functions, but from enhancements to its usability and app integration as well. Its advanced voice functionality, for example, allows users to easily control many built-in apps. Additionally, the expansion of the app catalogue itself reveals further cool new functions.

“We have so many great apps,” said Koo. “These apps make our customers’ lives more convenient, and have content localized to each market. For example, Eataly provides European customers the ability to order premium Italian groceries through Family Hub, while Groceries by MasterCard offers further convenience, allowing consumers to use their voice to handle e-commerce grocery shopping with Family Hub.

“Samsung is also closely collaborating with partners like GrubHub, Nomiku, Glympse, LidL, e-mart, Upday, Kakao, Ring, Spotify and iHeartRadio to provide more options for grocery shopping, cooking, home security and entertainment now and in the years to come.”

Powered by Allrecipes.com, Family Hub’s Recipe app offers users instant access to delicious dishes from around the world. As Allrecipes President Stan Pavlovsky pointed out, Family Hub’s philosophy of championing kitchen innovation is well in line with that of the world’s largest digital food brand.

“Allrecipes has always been at the forefront of leveraging new technologies to make home cooking easier and more rewarding,” said Pavlovsky. “It’s widely recognized that the kitchen is the center of the home for families. Family Hub’s location on the front of the refrigerator, along with its large touch screen, voice capability and wealth of other features that support busy families’ everyday needs make it an ideal solution.”

“Internet of Things technologies are driving the next big wave of consumer technology transformation,” he continued. “Working in partnership with Samsung is allowing us to be at the forefront of this shift, to pave the way for what the future of food and cooking will look like.”

With the unveiling of Family Hub 2.0 and its latest range of built-in appliances at this year’s CES, Samsung has introduced new ways for consumers to bring their kitchen experience squarely into the twenty-first century.

The event’s delectable dishes were catered by Michelin-star Chefs Daniel Boulud (left) and Christopher Kostow.

As the chefs prepared their acclaimed cuisine, they discussed the peace of mind that cooking with premium and reliable appliances brings to the kitchen.

Samsung’s Club des Chefs pairs culinary visionaries from around the world with Samsung engineers to design appliances that foster a more modern cooking experience. This year, members of the Club treated CES attendees to a gastronomic event that showcased the fresh innovations at the core of Samsung’s latest appliances.

After much anticipation, the guests enjoy their world-class dinner, prepared with Samsung’s built-in appliances.

Here, Chef Christopher Kostow, of The Restaurant at Meadowood in St. Helena, California, and Chef Daniel Boulud, the world-renowned chef and owner of several restaurants, including Manhattan’s Michelin-starred Daniel, discuss both their membership in the prestigious Club, as well as what Samsung’s latest kitchen innovations bring to the table.

Q: What made you decide to join the Club des Chefs?

Chef Kostow discussed the joy that cooking at home with family gives him – a sentiment central to the philosophy behind Samsung’s Family Hub refrigerators.

Chef Kostow: It was an interesting opportunity to collaborate with Samsung on their next generation of premium culinary appliances – to provide my insights and experience as a chef to help develop tools that would benefit the home cook.

Chef Boulud is a Club des Chefs veteran and the owner of several restaurants, including Manhattan’s Michelin-starred Daniel.

Chef Boulud: The Club des Chefs is a unique collection of global talent led by one of the most creative, respected and admired chefs, Michel Troisgros. It is where every chef has utmost respect for our profession, and is very open-minded toward the employment of state-of-the-art equipment at home.

It’s very rewarding to be part of this evolution in home cooking, where technology meets tradition and creativity meets practicality, to design for the next generation of home cooks. ‘Club des Chefs’ is basically a seal of approval. If great chefs enjoy cooking with Samsung, everyone at home will, too!

Q: What is your favorite recipe you’ve submitted for the Club des Chefs?

Chef Kostow prepared a delicious meal of prawn toast and pork belly stew with potato flatbread.

Chef Kostow: The Pork Belly Stew and Potato Flatbread is a great recipe for the cold weather months, and when entertaining a large group at home. This dish is very comforting and familial, and uses simple and flavorful ingredients.

Chef Boulud prepares his famous Poulet Grand-Mère, or ‘grandmother’s chicken’.

Chef Boulud: That would be the Poulet Grand-Mère. I personally love chicken in all forms of preparation, but this is a simple yet tasty recipe which can be done as a one-pot meal, where you need the stovetop and the oven to accomplish it.

It captures all the roasted flavors together, and is an easy recipe to do. It is very French to me, but it can also be prepared anywhere in the world. It’s the kind of dish I cook on Sundays for our family meal at home.

Q: What is your favorite Samsung home appliance, and what are some features you’d like to see included in upcoming products?

Chef Kostow: I love the WaterWall Dishwasher; it’s such a smart technology. Also, the Family Hub refrigerator is extremely innovative. As a husband and father of two young daughters, it’s an interactive way to make grocery shopping and meal planning for the entire family more productive.

Chef Boulud: Every appliance is very interesting, as each has a unique function which creates a very comfortable, practical and well-controlled environment for your kitchen.

The fridge, with its many functions and storage units for different foods and beverages; the induction cooktop, where you have the Virtual Flame around the pots which gives you a visual sense of the heat; the oven, which offers dual-cooking functionality, meaning you can bake two dishes at the same time. There’s a lot of logic behind their products.

At its press conference at CES 2017, Samsung Electronics unveiled its vision for 2017 and how it is reaching higher with a wide range of innovations to provide consumers with their best experience yet. Key product announcements included the stunning new QLED TV lineup, FlexWash + FlexDry laundry system, Samsung’s first-ever gaming laptop, and updates to the Gear S3 smartwatch. With these innovations, Samsung demonstrated its leadership in pioneering new technology that truly fits with consumers’ lives in more personalized, intuitive ways.

“Despite some challenges, we’ve made big strides in 2016, gaining market share in TVs, home appliances, wearables and smartphones,” said Tim Baxter, President and Chief Operating Officer of Samsung Electronics America. “By listening to our consumers and building on our heritage of innovation, we are delivering on our vision of the future – one that is powered by connected and elegantly-designed products and services that put consumers firmly at the center.”

Samsung QLED, the Next Innovation in TV

Featuring incredible advancements in the development of Quantum dot technology, Samsung unveiled the 75-inch Q8C QLED TV, which adds new metal material to nano-sized semiconductor quantum dots to deliver the perfect mix of light and color currently available in display technology. The result is a stunning large-screen QLED TV, with an incredibly accurate and precise picture that can be viewed from any angle or in any environment.

Samsung QLED TV takes Quantum dot technology to new heights with advanced light efficiency and stability, as well as a wider color spectrum than ever before. The new QLED TV also features truly deep black levels, perfect 100% color volume when measured with DCI perfect match, and HDR optimal brightness of 1,500 – 2,000 nits. Samsung QLED TV’s new panel design also reduces reflection so consumers can see every bold detail with unbelievable levels of contrast. Finally, QLED delivers this level of performance regardless of where one is sitting, with consistent color and picture quality from any viewing angle.

New design elements introduced by Samsung enhance the QLED TV experience even further.

The practically invisible optical cable helps to solve the issue of unsightly cords and clutter that can be found in the home with a sleek, single cord system. Additional accessories include the optional “No-Gap Wall Mount,” which makes mounting a TV flush against the wall simpler and faster than ever before. Finally, for those who desire a variety of stylish options when displaying their TV, Samsung introduced two new optional elegant TV stands – Gravity and Studio – that appeal to the consumer who prefers an un-mounted TV.

In addition to the new TVs, Samsung also detailed plans to deliver a more unified experience for customers using various services and devices. Last year’s hit Samsung One Remote has been enhanced to support even more devices and offer voice control capabilities across more Smart TV features. And Samsung SmartView app – available on Android and iOS – allow users to get their personalized SmartHub experience right on their phone, as well as notifications of new content even when the user’s TV is off.

New to the Smart TV experience in 2017 is the Samsung Sports service. The Sports Service ensures that sports fans will never miss a moment, with customizable content and alerts based on a user’s team preferences, powered by real-time partnerships with the biggest content players in sports today.

Rounding out this year’s new Smart TV portfolio of offerings, Samsung has extended its popular global service, TV PLUS, to the U.S. market. A new entertainment app exclusively available on Samsung Smart TVs, TV PLUS conveniently brings high quality content into a single app on your TV for the most premium viewing experience. Paired with Samsung Checkout, TV Plus is the fastest way to connect with the entertainment consumers love, right out of the box. In addition, Samsung has also partnered with FandangoNow in the U.S. to bring instant access to rent or buy more than 40,000 movies and shows, including new releases in 4K HDR.

Additionally, Samsung announced their newest lifestyle TV innovation. The new Lifestyle TV offers a sleek, stunning design that was curated with an artful approach. This new TV was designed to appear just like a picture would appear on a wall, outfitted with an invisible cable that allows it to hang anywhere in the home, and blend seamlessly into any living space without those unsightly cables or wires. The Lifestyle TV was awarded a “2017 Best of Innovation Award” at CES 2017 and will be launched later this year.

Samsung showcased its 2017 lineup of home audio visual products, including the new Soundbar Sound+ which features a built-in sub-woofer, H7 Wireless Audio and the latest UHD Blu-ray Player. The products reflect a comprehensive suite of premium features with an eye toward heightened integration, as well as a premium, simplistic design that complements the user experience across multiple devices. Finally, the new Soundbar and H7 feature the rich and detailed sound of UHQ 32bit, which upscales from any source that provides 8-24bit sound.

Unprecedented Flexibility in the Home

Samsung unveiled a truly differentiated line of home appliances to give consumers more flexibility and choice in how they cook, clean and connect.

Bringing more flexibility into the laundry room, Samsung introduced FlexWash + FlexDry to meet the needs of today’s busy families. FlexWash is equipped with a 5.0 cu. ft. capacity front load washer, the largest in its class1, to handle normal or bulky loads. It adds another cubic foot of capacity in a separate compartment on top for washing smaller loads separately from the main load. Both washers can run separately or simultaneously with different settings.

Meanwhile, FlexDry has the ability to tackle large laundry loads while gently drying a few delicate items at the same time at the top of the dryer. Suitable for items like athletic wear or a silk scarf, the unique Delicate Rack zone adjusts the heat automatically depending on the type of fabric being dried.

Signaling the company’s commitment to investing in categories in which its expertise and innovation can enrich and empower the lives of consumers, Samsung also introduced its line of new smart built-in appliances. This includes a new combination wall oven microwave, upgraded dishwasher, and matching line of premium refrigerators.

During the press conference, Samsung also announced Family Hub 2.0, the next generation of its award-winning refrigerator. Building upon Family Hub 1.0, which was introduced to wide acclaim last year, Family Hub 2.0 expands from four to 10 refrigerator models, so consumers can choose the refrigerator that best matches their household needs. It also features enhanced usability with intuitive app integration and new app partners to help families stay connected, manage food, and access more entertainment features on the refrigerator’s 21.5” LED touchscreen.
Continuing to drive innovation in the connected kitchen, Samsung Electronics introduced its latest edition Family Hub 2.0 refrigerator at CES 2017 in Las Vegas. The next generation refrigerator, building upon Family Hub 1.0 which was introduced to wide acclaim last year, features expansion from four to 10 refrigerator models as well as enhanced usability with improved app integration and diverse new app partners. Additionally, signaling its expansion into new categories, Samsung also introduced its new line of smart built-in cooking appliances.

Successful Family Hub Expanded Across Models

Driven by the success of Family Hub, Family Hub 2.0 will be available across a full range of Samsung’s popular 3-Door and 4-Door French Door models as well as the existing 4-Door Flex lineup, allowing consumers to choose the refrigerator that best matches their household needs.

“After just one year of availability, the Family Hub has transformed the concept of the connected kitchen by enabling users to order and manage grocery shopping, connect with family and friends, and access entertainment right from the comfort of their kitchen,” said Byung-Sam Seo, President of Home Appliances at Samsung Electronics. “Taking flexibility and functionality to a whole new level, the Family Hub 2.0 is entirely about helping consumers better manage as well as enjoy their lives.”

Key Enhancements in Usability with Improved App Integration and Voice Technology

With the Family Hub 2.0, usability, as well as food management, has been significantly enhanced through expanded and intuitive app integration. For example, users can determine which food items need to be replenished through the internal View Inside cameras. Images of those items can then be added to the shopping list feature, and conveniently ordered through the Groceries by MasterCard app. In addition, the Recipe app, powered by AllRecipes, features recipe readout and enlarged text to make it easier for users to multi-task in the kitchen as well as access recipe content from diverse countries around the world.

The Family Hub 2.0 has also been significantly enhanced when it comes to family communication. An entirely new and easy-to-use interface has been developed to enable family members to create their own profiles using avatars or their own personal pictures. With the 21.5-inch LED touchscreen serving as an interactive digital bulletin board, family members can then, through their profiles and the Family Hub app on their smartphone1, share photos, access updated calendars, handwrite memos in real time, and post memos from wherever they may be.

For a more convenient kitchen experience, Samsung’s advanced voice technology has also been integrated across many of Family Hub 2.0’s apps. For example, users can issue voice commands to learn the weather and time, add products to shopping lists and order groceries online, manage to-do-lists as well as calendar schedules, in addition to controlling various other apps.

To provide further upcoming choices for food delivery and cooking, location-based safety and home security services, and entertainment offerings, Samsung is also collaborating closely with partners including Grubhub, Nomiku, Glympse, Ring, Spotify, and iHeartRadio. With the addition of new local partners, Family Hub is also winning adoption among consumers globally. For example, E-Commerce grocery shopping capabilities from grocers like EATALY and LiDL are bringing more convenience to European consumers, and Morning Brief news content provides relevant news from upday for users in Europe, NPR for users in the US, and Kakao for those in Korea.

The Family Hub is a two time CES Innovation Award honoree; first with Family Hub 1.0 in 2016 and again this year in the home appliances and software/UI categories.

Samsung Brings Innovation to the Built-in Appliance Category

Signaling the company’s commitment to investing in categories in which its expertise and innovation can enrich and empower the lives of consumers, Samsung also introduced its new smart built-in cooking line at CES 2017. The new product line includes various models of Built-in Double and Single Wall Ovens, Built-in Gas Cooktops, Built-in Induction Cooktops, Built-in Electric Cooktops, and Built-in Range Hoods, all of which seamlessly merge into any new kitchen design or remodel.

The Built-in Double Wall Oven incorporates Samsung’s popular Flex Duo technology, enabling three distinct oven spaces that can be individually controlled with the Samsung Smart Divider. The Built-in Ovens also utilize SteamBake and SteamRoast functions for better control of taste and texture, and the new Built-in Cooktops feature some of the most powerful burners and customizable configurations on the market. The Built-in Cooktops’ new Magnetic Knob feature and Virtual Flame Technology also deliver precise cooking control and simplicity when it comes to cleaning. All a user needs to do is remove the knob and wipe down the surface – overcoming the tedious, and time-consuming painpoint of having to scrub away to remove grime on cooktops.

All of Samsung’s built-in appliances are smart and equipped with Wi-Fi connectivity2, so users can remotely start, control and turn off their ovens, as well as monitor their cooktop and range hood from their smartphone. Finally, Bluetooth connectivity syncs the cooktop with Samsung’s range hood to automatically start the hood’s fans or lights when using the cooktop.
