Konsta Punkka has devoted his time to capturing intimate portraits of wildlife since he was 17. His work has appeared in dozens of outlets including the BBC and National Geographic. Based in Finland, he travels all over the world to share memorable moments from the lives of wild animals — but he is most at home following bears and wolves in the remote forests near the border between Finland and Russia.

Samsung Electronics recently released two videos that showcase the outstanding performance and connectivity of the Galaxy Book4 series. The videos feature Finnish wildlife photographer Konsta Punkka and Seong-hun Kim, who has directed hits such as “Kingdom” and “Ransomed.” Both artists show how the Galaxy Book4 series frees them to focus on art.

Samsung Newsroom sat down with Konsta Punkka to learn more about his creative process and how the Galaxy Book4 streamlines photo editing.

Q. What attracted you to wildlife photography?

I have always been fascinated with the hidden world of wildlife — how we humans so often go about our busy lives without acknowledging that there are animals among us, other beings living their lives. I wanted to show that world to people. The more you learn about nature and its precious creatures, the more you’ll get out of wildlife photography. My goal is to show the personality and emotions of each animal I capture.

Q. Are there any memorable experiences you can share with us? How have they influenced your work?

There are families of foxes I have known for years. When I stumbled upon my first fox subjects, I was hooked instantly. Their facial expressions just spoke to me, and I managed to capture a few shots in beautiful surroundings. Another time, I was photographing raccoons in New York City and took some stunning portraits with skyscrapers in the background. Even in the biggest cities around the world, you can find wildlife wherever you are.

▲ One of the Galaxy Book4 campaign videos

Q. What’s your favorite photograph and why?

This is always a hard question. Right now, I’d have to say it’s a photo of a mother fox hunting vole at sunset. I captured her in midflight while she was jumping around in a field. It took weeks of searching for the best place to observe the fox hunting and many days of lying in the field. Everything lined up perfectly one beautiful evening, and I managed to take that photo. I think it perfectly showcases the world of wild animals that we often forget exists.

When I uploaded these photos onto my laptop, it was incredible to see how the details were retained. A person looking at my photo can feel like they were there. I added my unique style to the photo by making some minor edit s to the light and darks, hue and saturation.

Q. I’d like to hear more about role of technology in your creative process. What features are most important to you in a laptop?

I spend long stretches of time in the wild. It might surprise people to know I bring my laptop with me on my photography expeditions. As such, some of the most important features in a laptop for me are battery life, computing power and display — so that I can edit and publish my work wherever I am in the world.

When I’m editing photos, it’s critical that the display shows true colors and blacks. It’s also important that my laptop screen is extremely high resolution because I zoom in on different parts of my photos to make sure there are no blemishes.

▲ Konsta Punkka shoots wild animals

Q. Which programs do you use the most? How do you use them?

Since I edit while I’m on the road, the programs I use the most are Adobe Photoshop Lightroom for photo editing and Adobe Premiere Pro for video editing.

Q. Can you walk us through your photo editing process?

After a wildlife photo shoot, I upload the images to my laptop. I might take thousands of photos during an average shoot, so it’s important that my laptop has a high GPU1 to handle large raw files.

Then, I select the best shots — I use Adobe Photoshop Lightroom for that.

When I’m happy with my choice of photos, I’ll go to the Develop module in Lightroom and adjust the highlights and add some contrast, texture and vibrancy. After that I head to the color grading section, where I fix the colors to match my taste. The correct hue is especially important for oranges and greens.

Lastly, I view the photo in full-screen mode to see if there are any flaws. Inconsistencies are especially clear on the Galaxy Book4 Ultra’s dynamic display. I can then use the touch screen to zoom in on different parts of the image and fix these areas. I might add some gradients and brush to better highlight my subject before exporting the photo and sharing with the world.

Q. What frustrations do you have with your current laptop?

There’s nothing more frustrating than your laptop dying while you’re in the middle of a project. As you may know, the Galaxy Book4 Ultra has great battery life and comes with a compact charger that supports faster charging. Editing during a shoot is difficult because my laptop often doesn’t have enough power to run heavy programs like Adobe Photoshop Lightroom and Adobe Premiere Pro at the same time, or even separately. I love that the Galaxy Book4 is powerful enough to run multiple programs at once.

Q. Can you talk about a few Galaxy Book4 features that you’ve found helpful?

The touch screen really helps my workflow since you can just use your hand as a cursor. It’s easy to zoom in and edit a small portion of a photo, even for fine brushing.

▲ One of the Galaxy Book4 campaign videos

A powerful processor is crucial because I like to run many programs simultaneously. Editing videos and photos without any lag creates a stress-free environment.

The 3K screen resolution allows me to view my work in a completely new light. Seeing everything in beautiful, crisp detail on screen is essential when I’m reviewing my work before publishing.

Good color calibration is vital too — helping me see true blacks and create better color-graded art with less hassle.

Finally, I’m able to let my creativity flow freely using enhanced AI. I can plan my craziest wildlife shots and then replicate them later in real life.

Q. How does a powerful laptop such as the Galaxy Book4 streamline your creative process?

The Galaxy Book4 makes everything so much faster. I can edit while I’m on the go, and there’s enough power to run multiple programs at once.

▲ Galaxy Book4 campaign video shooting

Q. What was your first impression of the Galaxy Book4’s AI-accelerated performance?

I was very excited to see how AI could improve my workflow. All the shortcuts and improvements that help me work a little bit faster or easier are more than welcome.

Q. How have technological innovations in laptops, like the Galaxy Book4, impacted wildlife photography and the photography industry in general?

Advancements in laptops have made photo and video editing on the go so much better. Now, there’s no need to wait until you get back home to your bigger work setup. It’s easy to touch up photos without any delay while you’re still in the field — simplifying the whole editing process and giving us more time to do the actual work.

Q. Are there any additional features you hope to see in future versions of the Galaxy Book series?

I’m just looking forward to seeing where the Galaxy Book series goes next!

Samsung Newsroom can’t wait to see what adventures Konsta Punkka will embark on next and what new wildlife images he will bring to life.

Samsung Electronics is making 2024 the year of the AI PC with the release of its most powerful and intelligent Galaxy Book product line yet, the Galaxy Book4 series.

This latest lineup — consisting of the Galaxy Book4 Ultra, Galaxy Book4 Pro and Galaxy Book4 Pro 360 — offers intelligent performance, enhanced security and a vivid, interactive display, all in an ultra-portable design. From the new Intel® Core Ultra Processor to the suite of AI features, the Galaxy Book4 series is packed with cutting-edge technology that aims to not only simplify but amplify users’ computing experience.

Visitors discovered the Galaxy Book4 series’ full capabilities inside Samsung’s booth at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2024, the world’s largest mobile exhibition held from February 26-29 in Barcelona, Spain.

Samsung Newsroom sat down with Mincheol Lee, Head of Galaxy Eco Biz Team, Mobile eXperience Business at Samsung Electronics, and David Feng, Vice President of Client Computing Group and General Manager of Client Segments at Intel, to explore how the advancements in the Galaxy Book4 series can enrich the lives of users.

Unveiling the Galaxy Book4 Series, Powered by AI

Q. What key benefits can users expect from the new “AI PC” Galaxy Book4 series?

Lee: The Galaxy Book4 Ultra and Pro series exhibit unprecedented performance through a new Intel® Core Ultra processor that combines the latest central processing unit (CPU), graphics processing unit (GPU) and neural processing unit (NPU). In particular, the built-in NPU, Intel AI Boost, has been newly added for fast and efficient processing of large amounts of data — providing excellent multitasking and graphics performance. This new processor in the Galaxy Book4 series enables new AI functions that help increase productivity and offer new experiences in content creation and gaming.

In addition, various AI functions of the Galaxy S24 series can be conveniently accessed on a large PC screen with Link to Windows feature.

Q. An NPU has been newly added to the Intel® Core Ultra Processor, attracting quite some attention. Could you explain its role and function?

Feng: Intel is on a journey to empower everyone with AI on PCs with the recent launch of Intel Core Ultra. It’s important to note that the Intel Core Ultra processor introduces three AI engines — a CPU for fast response, a GPU for high throughput and a new NPU for low-power sustained AI workloads.

The new NPU can run AI applications at low power, freeing up the CPU and GPU for other system workloads like productivity and gaming. This means we are delivering elevated AI experiences on PCs without sacrificing system responsiveness, battery life or other vital functions.

Q. Is there anything else you’d like to highlight about the new product?

Lee: The Galaxy Book4 series boasts a variety of improvements and offers the best PC experience to users by providing various intelligent functions in cooperation with industry-leading partners, including Intel and Microsoft.

Intel’s latest Core Ultra processor and Samsung’s advanced hardware provide an optimized PC experience that supports better power efficiency and an improved cooling system. The Galaxy Book4 series is equipped with a Dynamic AMOLED 2X display that guarantees a clear viewing experience regardless of the environment, with a touchscreen function for more convenient usability. To provide a clear viewing experience anytime and anywhere, the anti-reflective display reduces glare on screen and Vision Booster automatically adjusts color contrast and brightness even in direct sunlight.

Through Samsung’s own Galaxy Ecosystem, the Galaxy Book4 series provides powerful connected use of PCs, phones and tablets — all secured by Samsung Knox, which protects critical system data through 10 years of accumulated security technology and dedicated security chips.

Collaboration for Disruptive Innovation

Q. What was the shared goal of Samsung Electronics and Intel for launching the Galaxy Book4 series, and what were the key areas of focus to achieve it?

Feng: Intel and Samsung strive to provide the best PCs to consumers. Intel’s approach to ecosystem development is built on our value of “openness.” With the launch of the Galaxy Book4 series, Intel is committed to strengthening our existing collaboration while constantly exploring new opportunities as disruptive innovation is a critical way to help the PC industry grow.

Lee: Samsung and Intel are strong partners. We share the goal of delivering the best PC experience to consumers through new AI experiences, immersive graphics and an optimal balance of battery life and performance. We continuously strengthen the fundamental competitiveness of PCs, such as performance, mobility and connectivity, to advance customers’ product usage experience. With the Galaxy Book4 series’ slim, lightweight design and the new Intel Core Ultra processors, Samsung introduces new AI experiences to more customers.

Q. What was the most challenging aspect in the collaboration process for developing the latest Galaxy Book series, and how did you overcome it?

Lee: To deliver the best AI experience on PCs, the Intel and Samsung teams worked closely to create the best platform and develop key applications that bring AI experiences to life. This was a new muscle the teams needed to build, and they did an excellent job by seamlessly working together.

Q. Please let us know Intel’s vision in collaborating with Samsung Electronics. What impact are you expecting the collaboration between the two industry leaders to make in the market?

Feng: Intel appreciates how Samsung has been focused on delivering superb user experience through devices, accessories and a software ecosystem. We are committed to collaborating with Samsung to bring consumers the best products, technology and experiences. The launch of the Galaxy Book4 series is a testament to the deep collaboration between the two companies.

A New Era of AI PCs

Q. How do you expect the new Galaxy Book4 series to impact the PC market?

Lee: The PC market is expected to grow worldwide in 2024. The AI PC represents additional growth opportunities as we capture the benefits of new AI experiences for end users. We are confident that the Galaxy Book4 series — equipped with Intel’s latest Core Ultra chipset in combination with Samsung’s hardware heritage and connected ecosystem — will offer a superb productivity experience as we enter the new era of AI PCs.

Q. Given the ever-evolving demands of consumers, what lifestyle trends are Intel and Samsung paying the most attention to in the PC industry today?

Lee: More than ever, consumers are looking for the flexibility to work, learn and play from anywhere. Consumers need to feel connected, productive and secure, with a range of tools available at their fingertips that help them optimize every experience. We are committed to empowering people to experience new possibilities that enhance their everyday lives. As devices become more integrated, the PC is set to play a key role in enabling connectivity that changes the way consumers interact with their PCs, phones, tablets and other devices.

Samsung Electronics today announced the release of its most intelligent PC lineup yet: Galaxy Book4 Ultra, Book4 Pro and Book4 Pro 360. The latest series comes with a new intelligent processor, a more vivid and interactive display1 and a robust security system — beginning a new era of AI PCs that offers ultimate productivity, mobility and connectivity. These enhancements not only improve the device itself but also elevate the entire Samsung Galaxy ecosystem, advancing the PC category and accelerating Samsung’s vision of AI innovation — for both today and tomorrow.

“Samsung is committed to empowering people to experience new possibilities that enhance their everyday lives. This new paradigm can be achieved through our expansive Galaxy ecosystem and open collaboration with other industry leaders,” said TM Roh, President and Head of Mobile eXperience Business at Samsung Electronics. “The Galaxy Book4 series plays a key role in bringing best-in-class connectivity to our ecosystem that will broaden how people interact with their PC, phone, tablet and other devices for truly intelligent and connected experiences.”

Intelligent Productivity Leveled Up by Secure Performance

The Galaxy Book4 series is equipped with an intelligent processor for powerful performance that maximizes productivity. The latest series comes with a new Intel® Core Ultra 9 processor that combines a faster central processing unit (CPU), a higher-performance graphics processing unit (GPU) and a newly added Neural Processing Unit (NPU) into a single package.2 Coupled with Intel’s industry-first AI PC Acceleration program — which includes more than 100 Independent Software Vendors (ISV), the new processor is enabling exciting new AI capabilities and helping boost productivity on the Galaxy Book4 series. Additionally, the NVIDIA® GeForce RTX 4070 Laptop GPU3 takes the user experience to the next level. Creativity is supercharged with fast, generative AI-based creation tools backed by NVIDIA Studio technology — for example, you can create stunning images with simple text in seconds with RTX-optimized Stable Diffusion. Galaxy Book4 Ultra users can also be fully immersed in games with NVIDIA Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS) technology that creates higher quality images for over 500 ray-traced popular games and applications.

The intelligent productivity is fully backed up by enhanced hardware performance, so the device can operate at its maximum potential. Galaxy Book4 Ultra lowers heat and fan noise with a new optimal cooling system, including an 11 percent wider vapor chamber and a dual fan with an uneven blade spacing design.4 You can use your device for a longer time on a single charge thanks to increased power efficiency.5 Galaxy Book4 Ultra users can also quickly top up an additional 55 percent battery life in just 30 minutes6 using 140W adaptor4 that is 1.4 times larger than its predecessor. Data privacy and security have become increasingly essential as devices have become more intelligent and connected, as well. That’s why Samsung is building on the legacy of security it has established through multiple Samsung Galaxy devices with Samsung Knox, enhancing security measures at the chipset level for the Galaxy Book series for the first time. All three models have a new discrete Samsung Knox security chip that secures critical system data separately, adding to existing multi-layered security efforts with Intel and Microsoft.

Stunning Display and Next-Level Connectivity To Perform Anytime, Anywhere

The Galaxy Book4 series’ upgraded display gives you a clear view, so you can stay productive while on the go. The series boasts an incredible viewing experience with a Dynamic AMOLED 2X display that offers clear contrast and vivid color, whether indoors or outdoors. Vision Booster uses an Intelligent Outdoor Algorithm to automatically enhance visibility and color reproduction in bright conditions, while anti-reflective technology7 reduces distracting reflections. With a touchscreen now added to all three models, the Galaxy Book4 series not only delivers a clear viewing experience but is also completely interactive — offering an optimized and familiar touch-based user interface, just like the experience on your smartphone or tablet.

While good visuals are crucial, having advanced audio is just as important for a well-rounded PC experience. AKG Quad speakers with Dolby Atmos® deliver high octaves and rich bass for clear and crisp sound. Studio-quality dual microphones with bi-directional AI noise canceling capture your voice clearly during video calls, even in noisy outdoor environments. When paired with Galaxy Buds2 Pro, LE Audio8 — an advanced Bluetooth audio standard — enables realistic sounds with reduced latency to make experiences such as gaming more immersive. Auto Switch9 allows you to seamlessly connect your Buds to multiple devices — from your smartphone, tablet and watch to your TV and now PC — so you can enjoy listening to your devices without manual input. A large touchpad and a wide range of ports — including a new HDMI 2.1 port — are also designed to enhance the usability of the Galaxy Book4 series. All these features are packed in a slim and light design that opens powerful possibilities on the go.

Together with Galaxy smartphones and tablets, Galaxy Book4 series users can benefit from even further enhanced productivity and creativity. Designed to help everyone be a creator, Samsung Studio,10 a new video creation tool available across Samsung Galaxy devices, allows you to continue editing videos made on your phone or tablet in more detail on your PC. Photo Remaster, now available on Samsung Gallery for PC, lets you quickly correct photos and automatically erase unwanted shadows and reflections with AI-enabled optimization for a picture-perfect image. Second Screen11 means you can use your tablet as a monitor for your Book4 and elevate your productivity with a variety of modes such as Duplicate, Extension and now Rotation.

Availability12

The Galaxy Book4 series will progressively made available in select markets, starting with Korea in January 2024. Galaxy Book4 Ultra will be available in 16-inch in Moonstone Gray, Galaxy Book4 Pro will be available in 14-inch and 16-inch with Moonstone Gray and Platinum Silver color options and Galaxy Book4 Pro 360 will be available in 16-inch, also in Moonstone Gray and Platinum Silver.13 The series comes in a refined and minimal finish with a wider variety of recycled materials,1 including plastics, glass and aluminum.14
