Samsung believes in putting the very best mobile experiences into the hands of as many people as possible, which includes our commitment to providing continuous software support for previous Galaxy Watch models. That’s why today, we announced that One UI 4 is available to offer Galaxy users an elevated mobile experience. And now, starting from November 15th, a new software update1 will also enable Galaxy Watch, Galaxy Watch Active, Galaxy Watch Active2 and Galaxy Watch3 owners to enjoy new features and a range of new watch faces to personalize their smartwatch experience.

Here are some of the features you can look forward to.

Get Help With Advanced Fall Detection Whether You Are Moving or Standing Still

Fall Detection is designed to identify hard falls when the wearer is moving, such as when they are doing physical activities, like running. Coming to Galaxy Watch Active2 and Galaxy Watch3, the new update gives you the option to select a higher sensitivity for Fall Detection – you can even choose to detect a fall when you are standing still. Once a fall is detected, your watch will send an SOS notification to pre-selected contacts, helping ensure that the wearer can receive the assistance they need as soon as possible. This makes it easier to keep both yourself and your more vulnerable loved ones safe.2

Work Out With Friends Using Updated Group Challenge

Group Challenge enables you to work out with friends no matter how far apart you are – helping you stay motivated and connected by working out together. With the new update, you can now add your friends or family members to a Challenge, battling it out to see who can go the furthest or the fastest, either working as a team or competing against each other individually. Keep track of your own place in the competition or see how you’re performing as a team – all from your wrist.

Get a More Holistic Insight Into Your Health

The Galaxy Watch series has introduced a vast suite of advanced health features – from heart rate tracking and blood oxygen measurement to sleep and stress management.3 Plus, with ground-breaking Blood Pressure (BP)4 and Electrocardiogram (ECG)5 monitoring in select markets, Galaxy Watch users can benefit from accurate health monitoring and gain deeper insights into their overall health through the Samsung Health Monitor app.

Currently available in a total of 42 markets, the Samsung Health Monitor app6 was recently introduced on the Galaxy Watch4 in four new markets – Australia, Azerbaijan, Paraguay and Georgia – and has since expanded to the Galaxy Watch Active2 and Galaxy Watch3.

The Perfect Watch Face for You

Watch faces are a fun and simple way to make your Galaxy Watch reflect your personal style. Now, you can enjoy 10 additional watch faces that first launched with the Galaxy Watch4. From the bright and bold Big Number and Active watch faces, to the stylish and minimalist Classic – more options mean more freedom to express yourself.

Some of the new watch faces are designed to enable you to take personalization a step further. Tapping on these watch face will enable you to pick between different background or text colors, while the Animals watch face allows you to choose between different colorful animated creatures like a monkey, rabbit, sheep or cat.

1 Availability may vary by market, device or operator. The update will initially be available on Bluetooth versions, and will roll out to LTE versions later. Requires the latest version of the Galaxy Wearable app and Galaxy Watch plugin.

2 Fall detection feature is available on Galaxy Watch Active2, Galaxy Watch3 and Galaxy Watch4. To notify an emergency contact, a network connection is required. GPS accuracy may be affected by obstructions to the satellite signal, such as buildings.

3 These features are intended for general wellness and fitness purposes only. Not intended for use in detection, diagnosis, or treatment of any medical condition or disease. Availability of these features may vary by market or device.

4 The Blood Pressure feature is only available in select markets. To ensure accuracy, users should calibrate their device every four weeks with a traditional blood pressure cuff. The BP app cannot diagnose hypertension, other conditions, or check for signs of a heart attack. This app can only be used for measuring in ages 22 and over. It is not meant to replace traditional methods of diagnosis or treatment by a qualified healthcare professional.

5 The ECG feature is only available in select markets. The ECG app is not intended to replace traditional methods of diagnosis or treatment. The ECG app is not intended for users with known arrhythmias other than atrial fibrillation or users under 22 years old. Users should not interpret or take clinical action based on the device output without consultation of a qualified healthcare professional.

6 Availability may vary by market. Available on the Galaxy Watch Active2, Galaxy Watch3 and Galaxy Watch4. Requires Samsung Galaxy Smartphone with Android 7 or later, and Samsung Health Monitor app which is available only at the Samsung Galaxy app store.

Samsung Electronics announced today that the Samsung Health Monitor app, which helps you monitor your health and encourages you to reach your wellness goals, will soon be available across 31 new countries. Galaxy Watch3 and Galaxy Watch Active2 users1 can utilize blood pressure and electrocardiogram tracking benefits via the Samsung Health Monitor app, meaning they can stay informed about their health wherever they go, and whenever they wish.

The Samsung Health Monitor app received a CE-marking in December 2020, which enabled the service to expand to 28 European countries. A CE-marking is an administrative sign to highlight that a product complies with EU safety, health and environmental requirements. This will now allow users in Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the UK to easily and conveniently benefit from advanced blood pressure and electrocardiogram tracking. In addition to this, the Samsung Health Monitor app is also being introduced to Chile, Indonesia, and the UAE, taking the total to 31 new countries.

“Nearly one million people have used the Samsung Health Monitor app to manage their health since its initial launch in Korea last June,” said TaeJong Jay Yang, Corporate SVP and Head of Health Team, Mobile Communications Business at Samsung Electronics. “We’re committed to bringing this innovative health service to more people across the world, and the latest expansion marks a major milestone in our mission.”

Blood Pressure Measurement

High blood pressure is commonly linked to brain, kidney and heart diseases, and if left untreated, it can lead to stroke and coronary heart disease. Galaxy smartwatches are able to measure blood pressure via the Samsung Health Monitor app, which provides users with deeper insight into health and allows them to make more informed decisions about their wellness.

Once your Galaxy Watch3 or Galaxy Watch Active2 has been calibrated with a traditional cuff,2 you can simply tap to “Measure” your blood pressure anytime, anywhere. The device measures blood pressure through pulse wave analysis, which is tracked with the Heart Rate Monitoring sensors. The program then analyzes the relationship between the calibration value and the blood pressure change to determine the blood pressure.3

Electrocardiogram Monitoring

It is estimated that around 33.5 million people worldwide are affected by Atrial Fibrillation (AFib),4 a common form of abnormal heart rhythm. AFib is often the cause of heart complications, including blood clots, failure and stroke.

The electrocardiogram function works by analyzing the heart’s electrical activity via a sensor on the Galaxy Watch3 or Galaxy Watch Active2. Simply open the Samsung Health Monitor app when you are seated comfortably, and ensure the watch is fitted firmly to your wrist. Next, rest your forearm on a flat surface and lightly place a fingertip from the opposite hand on the top button on the smartwatch for 30 seconds. The app will then measure your heart rate and rhythm, which will be classified as either a Sinus Rhythm (a normal, regular heartbeat) or AFib (when the heart beats irregularly).5

Availability

To take blood pressure and electrocardiogram measurements, users must have the Samsung Health Monitor app installed on both the Galaxy Watch3 or Galaxy Watch Active2 and their Galaxy smartphone. The Samsung Health Monitor app is automatically installed when users update their Galaxy smartwatch to the latest version via the Galaxy Wearable app. The smartwatch app will then open a link, which will direct users to the smartphone app download page in the Galaxy Store app.

The Samsung Health Monitor app update will be progressively available on Galaxy Watch3 and Galaxy Watch Active2 starting February 4th.6 For more information about Galaxy Watch3 and Galaxy Watch Active2, please visit: news.samsung.com or samsung.com.

1 Requires a Galaxy smartphone running Android 7.0 or above, to be paired with either a Galaxy Watch3 or Galaxy Watch Active2.

Samsung Electronics announced a software update, bringing new health, communication, and connectivity features to the Galaxy Watch Active2, available starting today.1

Here is a look at the new features that will be available on your Galaxy Watch Active2 soon.

Improve Your Athletic Performance

Become a better runner, improve your form, and prevent injury with the Running Analysis2 feature. The Galaxy Watch Active2 now offers a standalone running analysis and can provide a variety of detailed metrics, such as asymmetry, regularity, stiffness, vertical oscillation, ground contact time, to help you improve performance and reduce injury.

On top of this, you can also measure VO2 max, an indicator of the maximum amount of oxygen a person can utilize during intense exercise. It is a common measurement used to determine an athlete’s fitness and performance capacity, which can track the progress in your training routine and help you improve your endurance.

Watch Out for Your Loved Ones, Even From Afar

The Fall Detection feature3 helps you care for yourself and your loved ones, even when you are apart. When a potential fall is detected, you will immediately be given the option to send an SOS notification to up to four pre-designated contacts, ensuring that help is never too far away.

More Convenient Communication From Your Wrist

Rather than having to turn to your phone after receiving a notification on your smartwatch, you can easily view emoticons and photos directly from your wrist. Plus, with Smart Reply, you are provided a suggested response4 for both messages and images, with advanced photo recognition technology, so you can send a reply, even when you are in a hurry.

Also, when you get a message, your watch will also automatically show your chat history, instead of just a single message, so you can quickly pick up your conversation. No more constant switching between devices – you can do more directly from your wrist.

With the latest update, you also get the latest fun replies. You can now select to send both AR Emoji Stickers5 and Bitmoji Stickers6 straight from your watch, so you can truly express yourself in your messages while on-the-go.

Effortlessly Control Your Mobile Experience

You can control your mobile experience with the Galaxy Watch Active2 more effortlessly, including giving you instant access to your playlist on your phone. With this latest update, you have an even more seamless music experience across your devices – from your smartphone to Galaxy Buds device to your smartwatch.

Additionally, your Galaxy Watch Active2 will now support the scroll capture feature, so when you take a screenshot from your smartwatch, it is automatically sent as an image to your smartphone. That way, you can capture message threads, workout information and more and quickly save them for future reference.

For more information about the Galaxy Watch Active2, please visit https://www.samsung.com/global/galaxy/galaxy-watch-active2.

1 Availability may vary by market or operator. The update will initially be available on Bluetooth versions of the Galaxy Watch Active2 and will roll out to LTE versions shortly thereafter. Requires the latest version of the Galaxy Wearable app and Galaxy Watch Active2 plugin.

2 When you select “running” under the exercise feature in Samsung Health, your Galaxy Watch Active2 will automatically perform running analysis and measure your VO2 max. For an accurate reading, you should only measure VO2 max while running outdoors at a high intensity for at least 20 minutes.

3 To activate on mobile: Open the Galaxy Wearable app > select ‘SOS’ > Turn on ‘Detect falls’ and add the contact that you want to receive your SOS notifications. Fall Detection recognizes falls when the user is engaged in dynamic motion, not when staying still. To notify an emergency contact, a network connection is required. GPS accuracy may be affected by obstructions to the satellite signal, such as buildings.

4 Available in 9 languages, including English, French, German, Italian, Korean, Polish, Russian, Spanish and Ukrainian.

5 Compatible with Galaxy smartphones with One UI 2.5 or above and an AR Emoji Camera; Supports a maximum of 45 stickers in total: Three AR Emoji avatars, with a maximum of 15 stickers each.

6 Compatible with Galaxy smartphones with the Bitmoji app; Supports 30 stickers maximum. This feature is available to users that have installed the latest version of the Bitmoji app on their smartphone.

Samsung Electronics announced today that the Samsung Health Monitor application has launched in South Korea, following its clearance by South Korea’s Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) earlier this year. From today, Galaxy Watch Active2 users in Korea can access the Samsung Health Monitor app.2

To monitor blood pressure on the Galaxy Watch Active2, users will need to first calibrate with a traditional cuff. They will then be able to tap to “Measure” the blood pressure anytime, anywhere through pulse wave analysis via the Galaxy Watch Active2 wrist sensors.1 The Samsung Health Monitor app analyzes the relationship between the calibration value and the blood pressure change to determine the blood pressure.3

When you measure your blood pressure with the Galaxy Watch Active2, the measurement results can be synced to the Samsung Health Monitor app on your Galaxy phone. You can track your blood pressure by days, weeks or months and choose to share this information with your doctor for review or consultation.

Electrocardiogram (ECG) tracking will also be supported on the Samsung Health Monitor app in South Korea within the third quarter of this year. Together, the ground-breaking blood pressure and ECG technology will help users monitor and manage their health by providing on-demand measurements.

It also means that the Galaxy Watch Active2 now boasts some of Samsung’s most advanced health and wellness capabilities to date, offering users a range of services to help track exercise, sleep, stress and much more.4 It provides users with an easy and convenient way to monitor their wellbeing and receive added health insights.

“The launch of the Samsung Health Monitor app demonstrates Samsung’s dedication to providing accessible and convenient healthcare for all by integrating advanced hardware and best-in-class software technology,” said TaeJong Jay Yang, Corporate SVP and Head of Health Team, Mobile Communications Business at Samsung Electronics. “We’re delighted that Galaxy Watch Active2 users in Korea can now access the new app and receive insights to help them manage their health. We look forward to expanding the app to all future Galaxy Watch products.”

To measure blood pressure, users must have the Samsung Health Monitor app installed on both the Galaxy Watch Active2 and the Galaxy smartphone. The Samsung Health Monitor app is automatically installed on the Galaxy Watch Active2 by updating the Watch Software to the latest version via the Galaxy Wearable app. The smartwatch app will then open a link, which will direct users to the smartphone app download page in the Galaxy Store app.

1 To ensure accuracy, users should calibrate their device at least every four weeks.

Samsung Electronics announced today that the Electrocardiogram (ECG) function of the Samsung Health Monitor app has been cleared by South Korea’s Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS). The ECG feature uses advanced sensor technology on the Galaxy Watch Active2,1 and will enable users to measure and analyze their heart rhythm for irregularities indicating Atrial Fibrillation (AFib).2

AFib is the most common abnormal heart rhythm, affecting an estimated 33.5 million people worldwide, with 5 million new patients diagnosed annually.3 It can significantly increase the risk of complications, including blood clots, heart failure and stroke. Every year, over 16 million people will develop a stroke, of which AFib and high blood pressure (hypertension), are known to be the leading causes.4

The Samsung Health Monitor app also recently received MFDS clearance for blood pressure (BP) measurement, meaning users will be able to conveniently measure both ECG and BP, giving them a better picture of their overall health. Together, the ground-breaking ECG and BP technology will help users manage and improve their health by providing on-demand measurements.

“We’re delighted to announce that the ECG function has been cleared by MFDS,” said TaeJong Jay Yang, Corporate SVP and Head of Health Team, Mobile Communications Business at Samsung Electronics. “When you pair the advanced hardware of Galaxy watches with innovative software solutions, you can create unmatched experiences – such as in this case, convenient and accessible health check-ins for millions of users across the world. This marks just one way in which Samsung is pioneering to give everyone a simple, convenient and informed picture of their overall health and wellness.”

The ECG function works by analyzing the heart’s electrical activity via an ECG sensor on the Galaxy Watch Active2. Simply open the Samsung Health Monitor app when you are seated comfortably, and ensure the watch is fitted firmly to your wrist. Next, rest your forearm on a flat surface and lightly place a fingertip from the opposite hand on the top button on the Galaxy Watch Active2 for 30 seconds. The app will then measure your heart rate and rhythm, which will be classified as either a Sinus Rhythm (a normal, regular heartbeat) or AFib (when the heart beats irregularly).5

This recording will provide insight into a user’s health, enabling them to share results with their doctor to help make more informed decisions and live healthier life, especially when combined with the BP measurement.

The Samsung Health Monitor app6 will be available on the Galaxy Watch Active2 within the third quarter and will progressively expand to upcoming Galaxy Watch devices.

1 Requires Galaxy smartphone, running Android N OS or above and Galaxy Watch Active2 or upcoming Galaxy Watch device(s) to be paired.

Samsung Electronics announced today that the Samsung Health Monitor app has been cleared by South Korea’s Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS), as a Software as a Medical Device (SaMD), making it a government-cleared, over-the-counter and cuffless blood pressure monitoring application. The Samsung Health Monitor app, when paired with advanced sensor technology on the Galaxy Watch Active2,1 enables you to easily and more conveniently measure and track your blood pressure.

Globally, high blood pressure is known to significantly increase your risk of brain, kidney and heart diseases, including stroke and coronary heart disease when not managed properly. By helping users measure and track their blood pressure, the Samsung Health Monitor app gives people greater insight into their health and allows them to make more informed decisions, to lead healthier lives.

“The Samsung Health Monitor app has the potential to help millions of people around the world who are affected by high blood pressure,” says Taejong Jay Yang, Corporate SVP and Head of Health Team, Mobile Communications Business at Samsung Electronics. “This is one of many examples of how Samsung is integrating its best-in-class hardware with the latest software innovations to innovate mobile experiences.”

Once your Galaxy Watch Active2 device has been calibrated with a traditional cuff, you can simply tap to “Measure” your blood pressure anytime, anywhere. The device measures blood pressure through pulse wave analysis, which is tracked with the Heart Rate Monitoring sensors. The program then analyzes the relationship between the calibration value and the blood pressure change to determine the blood pressure.2 To ensure accuracy, users are required to calibrate their device at least every four weeks.

With the addition of blood pressure monitoring, the Galaxy Watch Active2 boasts Samsung’s most advanced health and wellness capabilities yet. The Galaxy Watch Active2 comes with more sensitive and accurate Heart Rate Monitoring sensors, and enables users to track their exercise, sleep, stress and get added healthcare insights that can help you improve your wellbeing.3

The Samsung Health Monitor app will be available on the Galaxy Watch Active2 within the third quarter and will progressively expand to upcoming Galaxy Watch devices.

As a company that looks to the future, Samsung innovates to change people’s lives for the better. Not only does this mean creating technologies and devices that allow users to better navigate their daily lives, but it also takes the form of allowing consumers to feel confident that, with a Samsung product, they have made an environmentally-friendly choice.

Thanks to a partnership with premium Danish textile brand Kvadrat, the latest Samsung accessories for the Galaxy S20+ and Galaxy Watch Active2 are no exception.

Accessories for Good

When developing accessories for the Galaxy S20 series and other of the company’s latest products, Samsung made the decision to partner with Kvadrat, a company rooted in Scandinavian design tradition that has acquired the European Union’s Ecolabel certification – a certification known for its strict judgment criteria.

Following the sustainable practice of upcycling, the special Galaxy S20+ phone case is made up of re-purposed 500ml plastic bottles that are melted and reformulated into textile yarns. Upcycling, also known as ‘creative reuse’, is the process of transforming end-of-life products into new materials that not only are of better quality than the original, but also benefit the environment. In the case of Kvadrat’s yarn-making process, one plastic bottle can be repurposed to produce 2 Galaxy S20+ phone cases.

These recycled yarns help to reduce the number of plastic bottles found in landfills and are produced in a way that reduces the amount of carbon dioxide emitted during manufacturing as compared with traditional material processes. The plastic bottle-sourced yarn is formed in an eco-friendly process that preserves non-renewable energy resources. Samsung is the first company among major brands in the mobile industry to have produced a phone case for its flagship device using recycled materials.

The Galaxy S20+ phone case made with textiles by Kvadrat follows the sustainable practice of upcycling by transforming end-of-life plastic bottles into recycled polyester yarns, from which cases can then be fashioned.

These recycled yarns are eco-friendly because they reduce the amount of PET bottles in landfills; in the U.S. alone, it is estimated that over 60 million of these bottles end up in landfills every single day. Each recycled 500ml plastic bottle can create 2 phone cases, allowing users the peace of mind that with the purchase of this special phone case, they are actively contributing to the reduction of plastic pollution.

The recycled yarns are also manufactured in a way that reduces carbon dioxide emissions as compared to traditional processes. Compared to conventional polyester production methods, Kvadrat’s recycled yarns are formed in a process that consumes less energy and preserves precious oil resources.

Galaxy S20+ case made with Kvadrat textiles product images

Last year, Samsung announced a partnership with the UN Development Programme to support the Sustainable Development Goals (also known as the Global Goals) which address some of the biggest challenges faced around the world, including the fight for climate action. In line with this, a portion of revenue from sales of the Samsung Global Goals edition of the Galaxy S20+ case made with Kvadrat textiles will be donated to UNDP in support of the 17 Global Goals1.

Samsung Global Goals edition Galaxy S20+ case made with Kvadrat textiles product images

As well as purchasing the Samsung Global Goals edition case, Galaxy users can also download the Samsung Global Goals app in order to discover more ways to get involved with the Samsung Global Goals initiative. With the app, users can learn more about each of the Global Goals and the issues they seek to tackle with detailed information, facts and figures on each Goal available. The app also helps raise money for the Global Goals, firstly by allowing users to donate directly to the Global Goals on the UNDP website and secondly by collecting ad revenue for the UNDP whenever users interact with ads on the app.

Galaxy Watch Active2 strap made with Kvadrat textiles product images

In addition to producing a line of cases for the Galaxy S20+, Samsung will also be releasing straps for the Galaxy Watch Active2 made out of Kvadrat textiles and other sustainable materials for those eco-minded Watch users.

Samsung is looking to not only promote sustainable product cycles but also to provide users with more options than ever when looking to make eco-friendly choices for the future.

1 The Samsung Global Goals edition of the Galaxy S20+ phone case made with Kvadrat textiles will be available in select markets only.

Samsung Electronics and Thom Browne today revealed Galaxy Z Flip Thom Browne Edition, an exclusive collaboration from the leading technology company and iconic New York fashion brand. Galaxy Z Flip Thom Browne Edition draws on Samsung’s all new Galaxy Z Flip device and the fashion brand’s bold, timeless style to introduce a groundbreaking foldable smartphone experience.

“Partnering with Samsung to create Galaxy Z Flip Thom Browne Edition was an incredible opportunity to reimagine how consumers express themselves through their smartphone,” said Thom Browne. “We designed Galaxy Z Flip Thom Browne Edition just like I do my collections—with proportion, individuality and aesthetic in mind—to create the perfect blend of art and technology.”

Galaxy Z Flip Thom Browne Edition was created for those who are not afraid to make a statement—and who want their technology to be as iconic as their wardrobe. It features distinctive Thom Browne signature brand colors on a pebble grey exterior, pulled right from the runway and offering all of the same innovative features as Galaxy Z Flip. To complete the look, the special edition version also comes with custom designed Galaxy Buds+ and Galaxy Watch Active2.

“Working with Thom gave us the opportunity to make this stylish device even more covetable, bringing together Samsung’s latest technology innovations with Thom’s signature aesthetic inspired by his suits —the precision tailoring, the intentional use of materials, the elevated style that is uniquely his own,” said Stephanie Choi, Senior Vice President and Head of Global Marketing Team of Mobile Communications Business, Samsung Electronics. “Galaxy Z Flip Thom Browne Edition is a marriage of our shared desire to delight people down to the finest details.”

Signature Style and Design

A grey Thom Browne suit transforms into the sleek Galaxy Z Flip exterior. The limited edition smartphone is the first of its kind to be encased in glass while still having a matte look that is soft to the touch and effortless to hold. Classic longwing brogues take a modern form with a grey pebble leather phone case, featuring the distinctive Thom Browne signature brand colors down the center. And, when unfolded, Galaxy Z Flip Thom Browne Edition reveals even more design details inside. Iconic blinds—a reference to the mid-century office aesthetic at the center of the Thom Browne world—appear onscreen every time the phone is turned on and off. App icons, labeled in classic text, create an elemental Thom Browne uniformity. And sound cues—a typewriter for the keyboard, an analogue ringtone, a shoe tap on a marble floor—create a unique soundtrack for the device. Custom Thom Browne wallpaper ties the entire experience together.

Coordinating Wardrobe of Accessories

From the minute they open the box, Galaxy fans are transported to a world of luxury and high style. Like opening a drawer to reveal a cache of treasured items, faille grey folding paper and Thom Browne’s signature brand colors create an all new fashion experience. Inside, consumers will find a Galaxy Watch Active2 with a grey leather strap and a Thom Browne custom watch face that lets you personalize your wellness with style. And for a complete connected look, Galaxy Z Flip Thom Browne Edition is finished off with Galaxy Buds+ in matching grey for a cohesive and connected experience on the go, as well as a specially designed leather phone case infused with Thom Browne’s iconic style.

A limited quantity of Galaxy Z Flip Thom Browne Edition devices will be available in select markets. Pre-orders for the device will begin February 14 on Samsung.com and Thombrowne.com, as well as at NET-A-PORTER and MR PORTER. The official launch will be in March.

Galaxy Watch and Galaxy Watch Active users will soon be able to enjoy all the user experience functionality found on the Galaxy Watch Active2 thanks to a new software update. Samsung Electronics is bringing a range of dynamic updates to its earlier-generation watches, including enhanced Samsung Health features, Bixby features, and customization options.

Once Galaxy Watch and Galaxy Watch Active users download the latest software update, they will be able to take fuller advantage of what Bixby has to offer, including using Bixby Voice to start exercise routines, find out time differences between places, and easily control their SmartThings ecosystem. Not only does Bixby learn from your routine and become more helpful over time, but its newly expanded language capabilities include British English, French, German, Italian and Spanish.

With this latest upgrade, Galaxy Watch and Galaxy Watch Active users will also be able to customize their Watch faces more than ever before. Across all of our Galaxy Watch models, users will now have access to 24 new sub-dials and complications, building on the 17 already available, making the watch even more customizable, so users can access exactly the information they want, where they want it. And notably, the improved UX will bring our new My Style feature to Galaxy Watch and Galaxy Watch Active for the first time.

The new update brings several new UX features to both the Galaxy Watch and Galaxy Watch Active as well, significantly streamlining the user experience. Icons for in-use apps have been moved to the bottom of the watch face, helping users keep track of and quickly access any apps with in-progress tasks, such as outgoing calls. Additionally, the current time will now always be displayed on-screen when the stopwatch app is in use or users are on a call, and users can more easily customize the icons in their quick panel thanks to a change in layout. Other UX benefits include a clearer graphic UI, easier user interaction, and new emoji offerings in a range of diverse skin tones. For Galaxy Watch Active users, a new Touch Bezel interface is included in the upgrade, allowing users to navigate using finger swipe actions around the bezel.

The new UX also features a number of new capabilities for Samsung Health. Users can now keep track of their fitness goals through the Daily Active feature, as well as track lap times while running or cycling. And as part of the expanded heart monitoring suite, Galaxy Watch will now support a Low Heart Rate Alert.

Beginning today, Samsung will begin to roll out the update region-by-region. The new software update will offer Galaxy Watch users even more tools for taking ownership over their health, more opportunities to make navigating your Galaxy Watch easier using Bixby Voice commands, and more ways to turn their favorite watch into a statement piece.

The Global Goals app also helps raise money for the Global Goals in two main ways by allowing users to donate directly to the Global Goals via the app or UNDP website, or by choosing to engage with ads on the app to donate 100 percent of the ad revenue Samsung would have generated to the Global Goals. By leveraging technology we use every day to help make the world better, the ‘Samsung Global Goals’ app lets users do good and feel good too.

From 5G smartphones to immersive 8K TVs, personalized appliances to robotic companions, Samsung’s IFA 2019 booth is chock full of interactive exhibits showcasing exciting ways that the company’s latest ‘connected living’ innovations work together to enhance a wide range of lifestyles.

To help visitors get a sense of the key themes, experiences and innovations to look out for in Samsung’s showcase, we spoke to some of the individuals who helped put the booth together.

Connected Home Zone

Q: What would you like visitors to take away from the Connected Home Zone?

We hope that, by encouraging them to experience how seamlessly Samsung’s home innovations connect in ways that simplify users’ lives, visitors will walk away with a deep understanding of the true value of connected living.

We designed this zone to illustrate how Samsung’s IoT solutions cater to consumers of various interests and lifestyles. For example, the Health Geek section showcases ways that Samsung devices can help users reach their fitness goals.

One of the most dynamic examples of this involves the Galaxy Watch Active2 and a Technogym exercise bike. The bike is outfitted with NFC technology, and when users tap it with their watch, they’re able to easily sync their watch with their bike, and log their workout data in Samsung Health as soon as they finish exercising.

Q: Are there any other exhibits in the zone that visitors should be sure to check out?

Don’t forget to test drive Samsung’s Digital Cockpit. It not only offers simple controls for managing connected devices in your home from your car, but it also lets you easily manage key car functions from the comfort of your home.

Let me give you an example. After launching the SmartThings app on the Digital Cockpit’s dashboard, if you select “Coming home,” the system will automatically activate the connected devices you’ll need when you arrive – like the lights and air conditioner – so your house will be ready for your return.

Visual Display Zone

Q: Which section of the Visual Display Zone would you recommend the most to visitors?

There’s a wide range of exciting displays on exhibit in the Visual Display Zone, but I’d especially recommend that visitors check out the QLED 8K Highlight Zone to take a look at our full lineup of QLED 8K TVs. It’s the widest 8K TV range in the industry, and our exhibits do an excellent job of showcasing the TVs’ breathtaking visuals.

Because QLED 8K TVs feature a resolution that’s four times greater than 4K UHD TVs, they add a sense of depth to content that makes it feel more immersive. We also offer a wide range of size options, designed to suit any home. These include the newly announced 55-inch model, as well as 65-, 75-, 82-, 85- and 98-inch versions. I’d also recommend that you see how the 98-inch model, and its 5,000-nit peak luminance, make HDR video content really pop.

Visitors should also be sure to check out the 146- and 219-inch versions of The Wall, our immersive, modular Micro LED display. It can be custom-tailored to any size, and it’s a fantastic solution for businesses, as well as those looking for the ultimate TV upgrade. You can see both models on display in all their glory on the right side of the zone. Trust me, you won’t want to miss that.

Q: Could you tell us more about the technology that allows QLED 8K TVs to produce such an immersive picture?

The Quantum Processor 8K is the key here. It’s based on our proprietary semiconductor technology, and it’s what makes QLED 8K possible, along with the TVs’ innovative QLED panels. The Quantum Processor 8K intelligently analyzes more than ten million images, and uses this data to automatically upscales standard definition, HD, FHD and UHD content.

The Quantum Processor 8K makes it possible for users to enjoy their favorite TV shows and OTT (Over The Top) streaming content in crisp 8K quality. When you see the before and after images with your own eyes here in the zone, you’ll realize just how powerful this technology really is.

Digital Appliance Zone

Q: What should visitors check out first in the Digital Appliance Zone?

I’d recommend that they check out our new BESPOKE refrigerator line. When we created the Digital Appliance Zone, we wanted to show people how Samsung’s home appliances tailor to a variety of lifestyles. BESPOKE is a perfect example of this lifestyle-centric approach to innovation.

BESPOKE’s launch has effectively brought about a new era of customized home appliances. Each BESPOKE refrigerator is completely customizable, which means that users can personalize their fridge’s color, materials and configuration to suit their lifestyle and design needs. With a modular design and up to eight different configurations – from single-door to four-door units – BESPOKE refrigerators seamlessly fit into most contemporary kitchens. Their versatility is on display in a total of seven lifestyle-tailored exhibits across the Digital Appliance Zone, including the circular structure at the center, which we like to call the Circle of Life.

Going forward, in addition to showcasing customizable appliances like BESPOKE at this year’s IFA, we’ll continue to develop convenient, customizable devices that tailor to the lifestyles of a wide range of consumers – including Millennials and those living in single-person households.

Q: What else would you recommend that visitors check out in the zone?

After checking out BESPOKE, I’d recommend that they take a look at our new range of premium cordless stick vacuum cleaners, POWERstick Jet. Our POWERstick Jet lineup offers industry-leading suction power, up to 200 watts,1 feature a long-lasting battery and an ergonomic design, and even include a 5-layer HEPA filtration system that captures up to 99.999 percent2 of allergens and dust particles.

Semiconductor Zone

Q: What should visitors check out first in the Semiconductor Zone?

I’d have to say Samsung’s SSD T5. It’s the latest addition to a long line of portable solid-state drives that offer fast transfers and reliable performance. Our exhibit offers visitors a chance to take a closer look at the SSD’s impressive specs – including 500GB and 1TB capacities, and transfer speeds of up to 540 MB/s – as well as its new Rose Gold and Metallic Red finishes.

I’d also recommend that they check out one of our Non-Volatile Memory Express (NVMe) SSD portfolio, the 970 EVO Plus. Operating on the PCIe interface, this NVMe SSD delivers sequential read speeds of up to 3,500 megabytes per second. When playing 4K games, users experience fast load speeds, and no lag. It’s available with up to 2TB of storage, and it comes in a compact M.2 form factor.

Q: Will visitors be able to take a closer look at some of the Samsung semiconductor technologies that have been receiving considerable attention lately?

Absolutely. The zone also offers a glimpse at our latest semiconductor system solutions, including our new Dynamic Vision Sensor. It’s a technology that can be utilized in a variety of fields, especially home surveillance. It’s capable of distinguishing between humans and objects, and it recognizes movement by registering changes in light. Because its output is dot-based, and it’s designed to only recognize people’s movements and not their faces, the Dynamic Vision Sensor ensures that users’ privacy is preserved.

Before you leave, be sure to check out Samsung’s first 5G-integrated mobile processor, the Exynos 980. This innovative technology opens the door for consumers to enjoy more sophisticated AI experiences, and it will eventually enable us to add 5G connectivity to more devices.

Mobile Zone

Q: What is the key theme of the Mobile Zone, and why was it chosen?

The innovations featured in the Mobile Zone demonstrate how Samsung Electronics is leading the charge when it comes to 5G. Samsung was the first in the market to introduce a commercially available 5G device, the Galaxy S10 5G, and here at IFA, we’re taking the next step in leading 5G’s democratization by expanding our 5G smartphone lineup to include a wider range of mobile devices.

The 5G smartphones showcased here, including the Galaxy Note10 5G, the Note10+ 5G, the Galaxy Fold 5G and the Galaxy A90 5G, will open the door for more people to experience 5G’s always-on connectivity and the incredible possibilities that come with it. And we believe that, going forward, this 5G ecosystem will only grow faster and stronger.

Q: What are some key features that visitors should focus on when testing out Samsung’s new smartphones?

This is the first time that we’ve offered the opportunity to get hands-on with the Galaxy Fold, so I’d definitely recommend that visitors take this chance to get an up-close look at the device’s new form factor. Experience just how easy it is to transition apps from the 4.6-inch cover display to the 7.3-inch main screen – and vice versa – and be sure to test out the smartphone’s six-camera setup.

The Galaxy A90 5G is another standout smartphone whose premium specs are sure to catch visitors’ eyes. These include the device’s 48MP high-resolution camera; a powerful processor, which supports faster downloads and smoother streaming; and a high-capacity 4,500mAh battery, just to name a few.

Q: Are there any other activities you’d recommend to those visiting the Mobile Zone?

Each 5G device in the Mobile Zone is equipped with an app that illustrates the level of power and connectivity that 5G networks make possible. The app was created based on an actual 5G demo conducted in Korea earlier this year using Samsung’s first 5G smartphone, the Galaxy S10 5G.

The demo is designed to showcase how 5G supports a completely new viewing experience – one that’s richer and more personalized. When viewing content with 5G, you can choose specific viewing angles, replay specific moments, and even catch details that you may have missed.

With this demo, we’re showing people that 5G is no longer a technology of the future; it’s here today. So don’t forget to stop by the booth to experience its power for yourself.

1 Suction tested on Jet model based on IEC62885-2 Cl 5.8, tested at the inlet of the non-accessorized tool, at the Max mode. Based on SLG (Schubert Leiter Geratesicherheit) tests.

“The special Galaxy Watch Active2 Under Armour Edition will help people enjoy their running experience-improving their overall well-being, and connecting them seamlessly to their digital devices,” said Woncheol Chai, SVP and Head of Product Strategy Team, Mobile Communications Business at Samsung Electronics. “I am very excited to be able to bring together our philosophy of balanced wellness with the athletic prowess of Under Armour, exclusively for Galaxy users.”

With unique features such as cadence based real-time form coaching and premium access to the world’s largest fitness community through MapMyRun,1 the Galaxy ecosystem experience on the smartwatch offers faster fitness insights, more intuitive coaching, and more comprehensive workouts accessible directly from the wrist.

“At Under Armour, every product we design is built around the mission to make all athletes better, and we believe that perfectly aligns with Samsung’s mission to create products that enrich people’s lives and build a new future,” said Paul Fipps, Chief Digital Officer at Under Armour. “We are excited to continue to push the limits of performance and technology through our relationship with Samsung. Together we are paving the path for the future with a seamless physical and digital experience. The introduction of the Galaxy Watch Active2 Under Armour Edition combined with our UA HOVR connected footwear and unique MapMyRun experience will help runners improve their running form and ultimately their performance.”

Always-on Running Coach

The Galaxy Watch Active2 Under Armour Edition provides real-time form and fitness coaching to users to help them get the most out of their runs. Using data from the smartwatch or from Under Armour Connected Footwear, users will see visual feedback and hear audio cues during workouts, which will help improve their stride, maintain their pace and continue on the path to conquering their fitness goals.

The Galaxy Watch Active2 Under Armour Edition encourages users to set personalized goals such as pace, distance and duration, and will provide audio cues and haptic feedback throughout their run. With real-time coaching based on data collected from the watch, the wearer will receive comprehensive feedback that helps them adjust their form. Post-workout, users will receive in-depth form analysis and detailed coaching tips on their smartphone, offering an in-depth perspective on running technique that no other product provides.

MapMyRun Partnership

Before every run, users can set up personalized training plans and receive coaching tips that help them work toward their goals. The Galaxy Watch Active2 Under Armour Edition includes six months of free MapMyRun Premium Membership2, giving consumers access to training plans that push them to get more out of every workout. During workouts, the unique Under Armour watch display will feature key data such as heart rate, pace and form, so users can view real-time stats and see how their progress compares to their plans. When paired with the Galaxy Buds, users can immerse themselves in their run with audio coaching cues at certain intervals throughout their workout giving them an extra push towards their goals. By connecting to their smartphones, users will be able to see more detailed workout reports with added insights following their run.

Stay Connected with Every Stride

As of 2019, all of Under Armour’s HOVR high-performance running footwear connects seamlessly to MapMyRun. With supported Samsung devices, users can connect their footwear directly to their Samsung smartwatch, and receive the same level of coaching and feedback straight from their watch display.

Exclusively on the Galaxy Watch Active2 Under Armour Edition, pairing the smartwatch with the UA HOVR Connected running shoes3 offers users up-to-the-minute stats on stride length and real-time form coaching. By providing detailed data and concrete tips for improvement, your shoes and your watch turn every run into a personal training session. You’ll learn more, improve your technique, and reach your goals faster—just as if you were running alongside a real coach.

All-around Performance Running Watch

The purposefully designed Galaxy Watch Active2 Under Armour Edition comes in a lightweight, sporty, aluminium body, with an exclusively developed watch face and two size options—44mm with a Black strap, and 40mm with Mod gray strap. Both straps are made with Fluoroelastomer (FKM) material and feature a breathable design, ensuring a comfortable fit that will optimize performance.

Combined with the advanced, signature features of the Galaxy Watch Active2, such as the new signature rotating touch bezel and One UI, the Galaxy Watch Active2 Under Armour Edition gives the wearer even more design options and intuitive controls tailored to meet their fitness and wellness needs. The watch face provides a bold and clear interface, and users can quickly access the MapMyRun app with a single touch. The watch face features an animated Eclipse design that glows and changes depending on the time of day, with well-defined time and date modes, so you can always identify it quickly and get your run going.

Samsung Electronics today introduced Galaxy Watch Active2, the newest addition to the Galaxy smartwatch portfolio. As part of the Galaxy family, Galaxy Watch Active2 is purposefully designed with new, intuitive, and refined features to bring more customization to consumers’ personal lifestyles, enhance their health and wellness as well as enable seamless, connected living.

The Galaxy Watch Active2 lets users live better through small, yet meaningful, daily changes—from reaching wellness goals such as sleep, fitness, and stress management to completing tasks efficiently. Whether you want to take time to meditate, be notified of every update, or fall somewhere in between, Galaxy Watch Active2 complements your lifestyle and delivers on what makes a difference—all while looking sleek and stylish in the process.

“The smartwatch market is rapidly growing, and we at Samsung are excited to continually expand our presence in new and visionary ways,” said DJ Koh, President and CEO of IT & Mobile Communications Division, Samsung Electronics. “With Galaxy Watch Active2, we have created a device that will enable consumers to take control of their health and wellness, and seamlessly flow between their devices and connect across the Samsung Galaxy ecosystem, making their lives easier and better.”

Purposeful Design, Customized to Your Life

The Galaxy Watch Active2 is masterfully designed to be both beautiful and customizable to your life. The Galaxy Watch Active2 comes in two different sizes—44mm and 40mm in diameter—and two styles: lightweight aluminum with a casual Fluoroelastomer (FKM) Band, and premium solid stainless steel with a leather strap. The smartwatches can be personalized with a range of additional stylish strap and watch-face options.

The Galaxy Watch Active2 features a brand new upgrade to our signature rotating bezel—and turns it digital to make it even more convenient to navigate while maximizing the screen size. Now directly on the beautifully curved Super AMOLED screen, the rotating touch bezel turns both clockwise and counter-clockwise to advance screens so you can easily select favorite apps. Plus, the upgraded One UI offers a simple, clear and natural user experience for navigation.

And for those users who want a watch as stylish as they are, you can now customize your Galaxy Watch Active2 face to your outfit with the My Style1 color extraction algorithm. Available in the Galaxy Wearable app, simply take a photo of your outfit, choose from five different color patterns, and your watch face changes in seconds. You can match your personal style each and every day—or save a favorite style for later.

The Perfect Companion for Your Wellness Goals

The Galaxy Watch Active2 also serves as your guide to improved health and wellness, providing actionable insights that can help you make positive lifestyle choices in your diet, exercise, mental health, sleep and more.

With exercise, for example, the smartwatch can manually track more than 39 workouts with seven of them automatically activated—including running, walking, cycling, swimming, rowing machine, elliptical machine and dynamic workouts. With an updated Running Coach, you can monitor your running pace in real-time and enjoy seven different running programs to help meet your goals. The Galaxy Watch Active2 even incorporates innovative new health sensors on the back, which take in readings faster, so you know you’re getting insights quickly to maximize your fitness routine and stay on track.

The Galaxy Watch Active2 also helps you track real-time stress levels through Samsung Health, our signature and popular health and wellness app2. It also provides access to guided meditation programs through an integration with the leading sleep and meditation app, Calm, now available in English, German and Spanish. And enhanced sleep analysis algorithms help you work toward healthy sleep patterns (through the four sleep stages), aiding recovery at night and getting you ready for the next day.

Seamlessly Expand Your Connected Lifestyle, Better with Galaxy Family

The Galaxy Watch Active2 makes it easy to stay connected to your life, and your other devices, even while you’re away or on-the-go. The Galaxy Watch Active2 with LTE connectivity allows you to make and receive calls freely from the watch, while apps like social media viewers are accessible with just a tap of the finger, and offer more interaction with your content. Now you can like a social post, and even watch a short video clip right from your wrist. You can even travel across the globe with greater confidence, as Galaxy Watch Active2 now supports convenient real-time voice and text translation in over 16 languages.3

Another way we’re making it even easier to stay connected is through our partnership with Spotify4. Sign into your Samsung account with single sign-on from your phone or Galaxy Watch Active2, and easily browse through your music, podcasts on Spotify and enjoy a continuous listening experience. The Galaxy Watch Active2 brings you seamless device interaction experiences, and makes access to music, podcasts and multimedia access even easier.

Integral Part of the Galaxy Ecosystem

As part of the Galaxy family, the Galaxy Watch Active2 brings the best of Samsung’s Galaxy ecosystem to the smartwatch for those who want to do it all. When the Galaxy Watch Active2 is paired to your Galaxy smartphone,, for example, the Watch Camera Controller5 on the Galaxy Watch Active2 allows you to take photos, start recording a video, preview footage on the watch, switch between front and rear lenses, set a timer and then check the final photo or video — all from your wrist. You can also use Wireless PowerShare on your Galaxy smartphone to charge your smartwatch in an easy and intuitive way.

Plus, all the Samsung services you get with Galaxy ecosystem—like Samsung Health, SmartThings, Samsung Pay,6 and more—are seamlessly integrated with your watch and across your devices. You can use, for example, Bixby to navigate your watch, start a workout or check the weather. And of course, everything you do on your watch is protected by Knox technology.
