At CES 2017, Samsung and Under Armour announced a collaboration that would combine Samsung’s industry-leading mobile technology with the performance athletic brand’s Connected Fitness expertise to offer Gear device users a best-in-class fitness experience.

As a result of the partnership, the Gear S3 now supports the Under Armour Connected Fitness® suite, which includes popular apps such as UA Record, the world’s first 24/7 connected health and fitness network; MapMyRun®, a leading exercise tracking app; Endomondo, a social fitness app that offers personal training tips and tracks exercise; and the nutrition-tracking MyFitnessPal®, which hosts the world’s largest nutritional database. The combined digital community counts more than 200 million members worldwide.

Each app includes unique features available exclusively to Samsung Gear device users, including the ability to quick-add calories and log water consumption in MyFitnessPal®, engage in fun Challenges*, enjoy untethered GPS tracking, and view maps and routes in UA Record, Endomondo and MapMyRun®. Furthermore, with the purchase of a new Gear S3, users will also enjoy 12 months of complimentary access to each of the apps’ premium services.

For Music Lovers

The Gear S3’s new Spotify app brings the world’s number one music streaming service to users’ wrists, allowing them to stream their favorite music directly through the smartwatch via Wi-Fi or LTE** and effortlessly browse through charts, scroll through playlists and search for tracks.

To offer users more freedom to comfortably enjoy their favorite tunes, the Gear S3’s Spotify app will soon support offline caching, which will provide Spotify Premium users access to saved playlists even when not connected to Wi-Fi or LTE. This convenient capability is expected to make its debut in April.

For On-the-Go Convenience

The Gear S3 also offers users with compatible BMW vehicles*** access to convenient functions designed to help them go about their day. After downloading the BMW Connected app, users will be able to lock and unlock their doors, check their fuel status, view details of their next trip, and more – all via the Gear S3’s screen.

When out and about, users whose homes feature the popular Nest Learning Thermostat, which provides intelligent, automated and energy efficient temperature controls, may utilize the Gear S3’s new Gear for Nest app to monitor their home’s temperature, set the device’s status to ‘home’ or ‘away’, and easily adjust the heat using the smartwatch’s bezel.

To Get You Where You’re Going

The Gear S3’s HERE WeGo app offers users a seamless city navigation tool, delivering turn-by-turn directions and allowing you to conveniently download maps for offline use.  The app’s recent update has made it even easier for users to get around, incorporating real-time updates on public transportation options including trains, buses, trams and ferries, and adding a convenient ‘companion mode,’ which allows users who download the HERE WeGo Android app to send directions created on their Gear S3 to their Samsung Galaxy smartphone’s screen.

The new, Gear S3-optimized NYC Transit app, meanwhile, offers users a handy and intuitive road map for navigating New York’s bustling public transportation system. The standalone app allows users to easily scan complete bus, rail and subway schedules; pinpoint their location and find nearby stations; view rundowns of each station’s available transit options, with up-to-date arrival times and delays; and set reminders to head out the door at the most convenient time to catch the bus or train.
