Samsung Electronics was awarded two of the first-ever SEAD Global Efficiency Medals during an awards ceremony at IFA, the world’s largest consumer electronics fair. Recognizing Europe’s most energy efficient, flat-panel televisions in three different size categories – small, medium and large – the SEAD Global Efficiency Medals were given to the UE26EH4000 in the small-size category (less than 29 inches) and the UE40EH5000 in the medium-size category (29 inches to 42 inches).

The SEAD Global Efficiency Medals are the latest acknowledgments of Samsung’s commitment to a green planet.

Launched this year by the Clean Energy Ministerial’s Super-efficient Equipment and Appliance Deployment (SEAD) initiative, the SEAD Global Efficiency Medal program promotes the production and sale of super-efficient products in different regions. Following the recognition of the most energy-efficient flat-panel televisions in the European Union, the SEAD global award will also identify the most efficient TVs in the small, medium and large categories in North America, Australia and India—ultimately naming one International Winner in each category. International Winners will be announced in October.

The SEAD Global Efficiency Medal is awarded to the flat-panel television in each category that consumes the least amount of power under the normal, regional operating conditions. Currently, only commercially available products that meet sales-unit requirements can be nominated for this award—Australia and India applicants are required to have sold at least 5,000 units, and North America and European applicants are required to have sold at least 50,000 units.

All flat-panel televisions that receive the SEAD global awards are permitted to use the SEAD Global Efficiency Medal emblem on product packaging.

Samsung Electronics highlighted in advance of IFA its industry-leading base of content for Samsung Smart TV owners in Europe—including myriad options across broadcast video-on-demand (VOD), movies, sports and lifestyle for consumers of any background.

As a testament to its unique partnerships with Europe’s largest telecom and cable operators, Samsung gives European consumers access to a variety of unique apps catering to live broadcast and VOD viewing. Most recently, Samsung has partnered with telecommunications operator TeliaSonera to develop a Smart TV application that will allow existing IPTV without the need for an external set-top box, with full support for key linear, catch-up and on-demand features. For sports aficionados, Samsung has made a variety of Smart TV apps that keep fans up to speed on the latest sports news and statistics. Across Europe, THE Football app offers in-depth coverage of more than 40 football leagues and events worldwide—with continuous updates to provide fans with breaking news, live commentaries, and statistics along with video highlights and a truly immersive viewing experience in English, French, German, Italian and Spanish languages. In the Netherlands, Eredivise Live showcases Dutch Premiere League soccer on T-VOD, while NOS Sports broadcasts Euro 2012, Tour de France, Olympics and UEFA Champions league content live and on-demand for free. Samsung Electronics announced its new external memory cards, highlighting a selection of superior speed, density and reliability. The professional version of the new memory cards, the ‘Pro’ series, provides ultra high speed-1 (UHS-1)* performance and up to 64 gigabytes (GBs) of data storage. The full line-up includes the premium series ‘Plus’ and commercial series ‘Standard.’

Samsung’s new 64GB micro SD Pro series, utilizing its advanced semiconductor technology with 20 nanometer-class** NAND flash offers the highest levels of reliability against SD cards available in the market today and speed up to 70 Megabytes per second (MB/s)*** for read performance, making them three-times faster than the conventional micro SD cards.

Such higher speeds and larger data storage space match the rapidly transforming user environment with the advent of LTE communication networks. The memory cards are designed to fully meet users’ expectations for ultimate quality in accessing and storing large multimedia content of advanced quality such as full HD (1080p) videos.

Each of the new cards has been designed with Samsung’s proof technologies to provide users with ultimate levels of durability. Samsung introduced three proof concepts in 2009, a unique concept of superior reliability at that time. The new line-up of micro SD cards delivers added reliability through its reinforced proof factors: Water- proof, Magnetic-proof, X-ray-proof and Temperature-proof.

Samsung Electronics hosted its Samsung Developer Day at IFA 2012. Over 1,000 application developers from across the globe participated in the event held at the world-leading consumer electronics show in Berlin, Germany, which is taking place for six days from August 31 to September 5.

The developer event at IFA follows the success of a number of similar events held by Samsung this year, starting with the Samsung Developer Day at Mobile World Congress in February and followed through the summer by Developer Day events in Tokyo, Cairo and Seoul. The events provide an opportunity for Samsung to introduce platform technologies and developer services under the theme “Learn, Share, Network”.

The Samsung Developer Day at IFA this year captured the imagination of developers with a focus on the new GALAXY Note II and GALAXY Camera devices, which were introduced to the public at Samsung’s Unpacked event on August 29th. The developer event at IFA included the introduction of various Samsung smart devices in addition to mobile phones, notably Smart TVs and cameras, and featured discussions on service development for multi-device convergence environments.

Samsung Smart TV SDK 3.5, premiered at the event, assists developers in utilizing various functions supported by Samsung Smart TVs when developing TV apps. It also supports various Smart TV Emulator Modes to facilitate a simpler development process, and enables developers to create more innovative apps by taking advantage of new features such as the Convergence Framework and Smart Interaction. Samsung also announced its plans to release the development tools and APIs for the new GALAXY Camera to third-party app developers, raising significant interest from developers.

At the event, Samsung also released the latest version of its S Pen SDK, enabling app developers to create apps that harness the potential of the S Pen in the GALAXY Note category. The update supports a variety of new Note features such as Air View which allows users to hover with the S Pen over an email, image gallery, or video to preview the content without having to open it. Samsung also introduced the Open API for Samsung’s ChatON messaging service, receiving positive responses from attending developers. The ChatON API enables third-party applications to easily integrate ChatON capabilities, for example enabling users to interact with buddies directly through embedded chat or invite ChatON buddies to play a game by sending an invitation via ChatON messenger.

In addition to technology-related sessions presented by Samsung, the Developer Day event at IFA also featured a Partner Showcase, providing overseas app developers the chance to introduce and publicize some of their new applications. Six industry-leading developers shared their development experience and partnership practices with other developers in the room, including Autodesk, who presented its SketchBook drawing app utilizing the S Pen SDK, and Accedo, who presented its Maxdome Smart TV app.

Additionally, the event included a device exhibition where participants had a hands-on opportunity to experience the new GALAXY Note II. This also included a demonstration of the globally-popular drawing game app Draw Mania, as well as of Fastest Painter and Moleskine, two applications which successfully utilize S Pen features.

Mr. Kwon also emphasized that Samsung will continue to strengthen its competitiveness by collaborating with third-party developers that enhance the Smart Ecosystem.

Samsung Electronics showcased its most innovative collection of smart, modern home appliances at IFA 2012. The product portfolio is comprised of an enhanced “Made in Europe” range of appliances, displayed in Hall 5.1, Messe Berlin.

Capacity without Compromise

Samsung understands that European consumers are concerned with rising energy prices, limited kitchen spaces and the environmental impact of their home appliances. With this in mind, Samsung developed Europe’s largest bottom-mounted refrigerator unit, featuring a slim and sleek design and 400L capacity.

A core component of the product is “Space Max” technology, which offers more capacity within the interior of the refrigerator, all the while maintaining the same size and dimension of the exterior. Additionally, a new insulation technique allows the fridge walls to be thinner without compromising the overall size of the unit.

The same technology is also available in Samsung’s Side-by-Side refrigerator. Featuring a capacity of 615L, this hero product is responsible for the company’s No.1 position in the category for six consecutive years.

Similarly, the “Space Max” technology increases Samsung’s French Door refrigerator to 520L with a 600-millimeter counter depth to easily fit into kitchens.

Finally, to meet the needs of those who are particularly conscious of energy usage, Samsung equipped its refrigerators with digital inverter compressors, which are designed to reduce internal wear and tear as well as lower noise level while operating. The technology also reduces energy consumption while maintaining optimal freshness.

Revolutionary Washing Technique

Samsung has changed the way people can do laundry with its bubble washer, a revolutionary way to wash clothing, enhance fabric care and reduce energy usage.

Traditionally, everyone assumes that hot water is the optimal setting to remove stains from clothing, but the heat can sometimes damage delicate fabrics and even add to the environmental burden, causing excessive energy consumption.

Most washers have a cold water cycle for bright colors and delicate fabrics, but in ordinary machines, a cold water cycle often takes much more time and doesn’t always get the stains out. Some consumers may remember the additional time that was needed for performance when switching from 60°C to 50°C eco cycles. Recent trends skew more toward 40°C and 30°C warm cycles. These cool wash cycles required more time to be effective – until now. Samsung’s scientists discovered an innovative way to quickly and effectively wash clothing by using ecobubble Technology. Ecobubble mixes detergent with air and water to generate a large number of bubbles and greatly speed up the detergent activation in cool water, getting to the wash phase much faster.

Washing in cool water saves up to 70 percent in energy consumption and is gentler on fabrics, and with ecobubble consumers can still enjoy a thorough cleaning performance.

Cool, Clean Air Care

As indoor biological pollutants become a growing public health concern, Samsung introduced the revolutionary air humid purifier PAPER to improve indoor air quality and enhance consumers’ health.

PAPER is a 3-in-1 multi-functional air purifier that automatically generates harmless micro moisture by disc type evaporation. Additionally, its core S-Plasma Ion technology generates activated hydrogen and oxygen ions that transform toxins from the air into harmless water vapor.

PAPER’s cleaning properties have been recognized by authentication authorities across the United Kingdom, United States, Japan and South Korea, while the Seoul National University Hospital and Seoul Toxicology Lab have certified the technology as safe and non-toxic for humans.

A Smarter Way to Vacuum

Imagine being able to vacuum any room in a household with a single touch of a button. This is made possible with Navibot S, a visionary robotic cleaning device that provides hands-free automated floor cleaning.

Samsung Electronics unveiled today at IFA 2012 its smart oven and compact oven — two new innovations and enhancements to its expanding line-up of kitchen appliances. These new products inspire users to conveniently express their culinary creations but also conserve energy and save space in consumer’s kitchens.

These enhancements have been applied in the company’s latest smart ovens that help busy consumers stay ahead of kitchen tasks through sophisticated features such as Smart Sense Technology, a feature that detects and automatically implements the optimum cooking mode and time.

With a revolutionary slim design, control lighting and seamlessly integrated door handle and frame, the Samsung compact oven ensures that every chef is cooking in style. The compact oven come in five variations: oven, steam combi, microwave oven combi, steam, and microwave oven, offering a range of cooking options such as baking, roasting, grilling and steaming.

In addition, the compact oven comes equipped with a Dual Convection feature that cooks food more evenly, allowing consumers to prepare larger dishes while maintaining the optimal level of food humidity and temperature.

Smart Oven with 45L Capacity

Samsung’s new counter-top smart oven boasts an amazing 45-liter capacity that enables consumers to cook more versatile recipes. Consumers also have access to innovative features such as Smart Sense Technology and a humidity-based sensor, which cooks food evenly by automatically detecting the humidity in the oven’s cavity and adjusting to the food’s cooking process. With a simple touch, users are also given the option to select one of eight Sensor Auto cooking programs and the oven will do the rest.

Additionally, Samsung’s smart oven features a ceramic square tray that maximizes the internal space of the oven to accommodate large dishes and multi-level cooking, especially useful for large roasts and convection mode.

Also, the revolutionary “Crusty Plate” works in conjunction with the oven’s grill mode to produce deliciously grilled or perfectly crispy pizzas, quiches or pastries.

In addition to a ceramic square tray, the smart oven’s interior is ceramic enamel, a durable material with high scratch- and rust-resistancy that makes it more than seven times scratch-resistant than any other microwave interior.

Samsung is the only manufacturer that uses high quality ceramic enamel, which is traditionally found in standard ovens or ranges. The ceramic enamel interior is also easy to clean and sanitary. Samsung Electronics unveiled its much-anticipated 55-inch ES9500 OLED TV, featuring unrivaled picture quality, luxurious design and the new Samsung Multi View function, in Europe for the first time to kick off IFA 2012. Seven Years of Industry Leadership and Innovation

For the sixth consecutive year, Samsung championed its unrivaled leadership in Europe and worldwide by maintaining its leading position in the TV industry. ES9500 OLED TV with Samsung Multi View

The long-anticipated Samsung ES9500 OLED TV, unveiled in Europe for the first time, marks the beginning of a new era in the TV industry. The 55-inch ES9500 OLED TV delivers the ultimate picture quality through unlimited contrast ratio, richer colors and faster response time.

The ES9500’s self-emitting sub-pixels can individually reproduce life-like colors, creating a more immersive experience that draws the viewer into the action on the screen. OLED technology is also able to differentiate between varying degrees of blacks, enabling its unlimited contrast ratio to deliver unparalleled detail in shadows, shapes and subtle colors even in the darkest of scenes.

Samsung Electronics today at IFA 2012 unveiled its vision for the consumer electronics market and introduced the products and services that will ‘Push the boundaries of innovation‘.

Before a crowd of IFA 2012 attendees, Boo-Keun Yoon, President and Head of Consumer Electronics Division at Samsung Electronics, stated that the company will cultivate the curiosity of its people and uncover what is meaningful for consumers who engage with its products.

Samsung also noted its leading position within the TV industry for the sixth consecutive year, as well as its lead in Side-by-Side refrigerators for the past six years.

For Europe, Samsung understands that European consumers are concerned with rising energy prices, limited kitchen spaces and the environmental impact of their home appliances. With this in mind, Samsung developed a core technology called “Space Max,” which offers more capacity within the interior of an appliance, all the while maintaining the same size and dimension of the exterior.

This technology can be found in Samsung’s flagship 615-liter Side-by-Side refrigerator, which is responsible for the company’s number one position in the category for six consecutive years. Similarly, “Space Max” technology increases Samsung’s French Door refrigerator’s capacity to 520 liters with a 600-millimeter counter depth to easily fit into kitchens. It’s not just the refrigerators that are smarter this year, so too is Samsung’s latest ecobubble washing machine, a revolutionary way to wash clothing and enhance fabric care. The camera’s convenient ‘Auto Cloud Backup’ feature will also automatically save precious photos into the cloud via Samsung’s AllShare the instant they are taken.  The GALAXY Camera also allows users to share photos at the same time as they shoot them with ‘Share Shot.’ As well as sharing to social networks and cloud services users can also connect to a range of GALAXY devices including the GALAXY SIII and GALAXY Note II for effortless and automatic sharing of pictures across the GALAXY family. The new device enables connection to 3G or 4G LTE, allowing photo sharing and browsing anywhere. The GALAXY Camera also functions on Wi-Fi with Dual Band and Channel Bonding for extra speed. Connectivity is supported by a quad-core processor that enables fast web-browsing and multi-tasking, as well as high speed image processing without a significant impact on battery life.

At the Samsung Mobile Unpacked event held today at IFA, in Berlin, Samsung introduced the GALAXY Note II, a whole new level of innovation for the GALAXY Note category. The new Samsung GALAXY Note II enables unique experiences in personalized and expressive content creation, making it the ultimate smartphone for on-the-go creativity.

Since the first introduction of the GALAXY Note category, Samsung has continued to enhance and expand the GALAXY Note product experiences. In May 2012, Samsung introduced ‘Premium Suite,’ a software upgrade which provided enhanced user experiences. With the Ice Cream Sandwich OS upgrade, Samsung offered innovative new features such as Shape Match and Formula Match, providing a new way for organizing and expressing ideas in their personal and professional life. Also in August, Samsung expanded the category further with the GALAXY Note 10.1, which has a 10.1-inch large screen, a Multiscreen feature for the ultimate multitasking, and enhanced features for users’ productivity, creativity and learning abilities. Perfect viewing experience

The GALAXY Note II features a 5.5” (140.9mm) HD Super AMOLED screen, providing breathtaking visuals and crystal clear detail. Its larger screen allows users to see content clearly and vividly, with much enhanced readability. Easy multitasking

Air View allows users to hover with the S Pen over an email, S Planner, image gallery, or video to preview the content without having to open it. This feature enables users to quickly search and see more information in one view without screen transitions.

Thanks to the breadth of the GALAXY Note II’s amazing viewing experience, a feature called Popup Note extends the concept of Popup Play, which lets users open an S Note instantly as a pop-up window anywhere on the screen. For example, when a user pulls out the S Pen during a phone call, the S Note application automatically pops up on the screen, allowing users to jot down a quick note.

In addition, the device’s new gesture pad feature, called Quick Command, lets users quickly activate frequently used apps with the S Pen. The command pad appears when a user just swipes upward on the screen with the S Pen button pressed. Users can quickly send an email, make a call, or search a location as they draw pre-registered marks on the command pad or register a unique mark to allow for quick and easy access.

Furthermore, users will be able to share their experiences with others quickly and easily using Screen Recorder. It allows users to record a whole sequence of actions taken on their screen — a demonstration of how to use an application, for example — and then share it with friends for comment, or just for fun.

Amazing expression tools – Advanced S Pen & S Note

The new S Pen is longer, thicker and ergonomically designed for the perfect grip. Therefore, it provides a more precise, comfortable, and natural writing and drawing experience.

The S Pen’s advanced features also provide enhanced capabilities to capture ideas and inspirations instantly, and to combine handwriting with any digital content directly on the screen. By simply pressing the dedicated S Pen button, the S Pen magically recognizes that users want to clip or edit the selected content on the screen. The Easy Clip feature allows users to instantly outline and crop any content on the screen in any shape to save, share or paste. Once done cropping the image, users can freely edit the cropped content through coloring, shading, or their own personal handwriting. It is quick and easy.

Another amazing expression feature called Idea Visualizer allows users to easily add illustrations by handwriting keywords on the S Note. It provides illustration images that match the handwritten keywords. It’s a fancy illustration match function that will allow users to express, organize and visualize ideas in a more innovative and creative way. Users can even customize and add in their own illustrations library.

Powerful Performance

Powering content creation, sharing and multitasking capabilities, the GALAXY Note II comes with the latest hardware technologies. A mighty 1.6GHz Quad-Core processor and HSPA Plus or 4G LTE connectivity delivers easy multitasking, lightning-fast screen transitions, powerful browser performance, and minimal app load time. The GALAXY Note II is powered by Android 4.1, Jelly Bean. This brings stunning graphical capabilities and an upgraded Google Now service, including new features such as contextual search, to the GALAXY Note II. The memory options are 16 GB, 32 GB, and 64 GB with an expandable micro SD memory slot. Thanks to a 3,100mAh battery, users can enjoy multimedia content, always be productive on the go, and capture ideas whenever, wherever without suffering from power limitation.

The GALAXY Note II comes with an 8 megapixel rear-facing and 1.9 megapixel front-facing camera with HD video recording. IFA 2012 is just around the corner and it’s only natural that thousands and millions of people worldwide are excited. Top names in the game are to get together to show off their newest innovations. Samsung Electronics announced the availability of innovative 1:1 ratio LED square display (UD22B) and transparent display (NL22B), accelerating its leadership in the commercial B2B display market in the second half of this year.

Samsung’s distinctive 1:1 ratio square display and all-in-one transparent display showcase provide business owners with extraordinary solutions for creating entirely new types of promotional displays in retail, commercial and public locations.

To mark the launch of these two new display products, Samsung Electronics will introduce them to the general public with an impressive product showcase at IFA 2012, Europe’s largest consumer electronics show, to be held in Berlin, Germany, Aug. 31-Sep. 5. Inovative Square Displayn

Providing an alternative to traditional rectangular displays, Samsung’s LED square display with 1:1 screen ratio supports unlimited configurations and opens up new potential for creating immersive visual experiences. With 5.5 mm bezel-to-bezel measurement for seamless installation and digital loop out to produce a single image across up to 100 displays, Samsung’s 21.6” square display lets commercial users explore limitless possibilities as they design artistic video walls. Multiple displays can easily be connected to create creative mosaics as well as cubic or other three-dimensional shaped displays. Without being limited by the installation space or shape, businesses can create more interactive point-of-sale and advertising displays that engage the consumer.

Samsung’s environmentally friendly Direct LED backlight technology used in the UD22B square display generates less heat to reduce power consumption by more than 30 percent compared to existing LCD display technology, lowering operating costs. The UD22B also conserves energy by adjusting brightness according to surrounding brightness, and users easily manage content using Samsung’s unique MagicInfo software solution.

Samsung’s First All-in-One Transparent Display

Samsung’s 22” transparent display (NL22B) is a new type of product, available as an all-in-one showcase, launching a new era of possibilities in digital retail design. The thin LCD panel on the front of the transparent display allows images and animations to dynamically interact with the merchandise inside the showcase while still enabling passers-by to view the product. The three remaining sides are made of protective tempered glass enclosed by a sleek metallic frame, giving the NL22B a luxurious appearance.

Available as an all-in-one showcase for use as a stand-alone display or as an optional 22” kit for wall installation, the NL22B accentuates the display of retail products. Unlike competitive displays with lower transmittance rates (5 percent) that can hide mer­chandise, Samsung’s transparent display offers a transmittance rate of 15 percent for exquisite picture quality. The all-in-one kit includes a built-in PC, speakers, LED bar and protective glass, making it remarkably simple for businesses to transform consumer shopping into an immersive in-store experience.

B2B Display Market Leadership

Samsung Electronics is leading in the creation of new markets across the B2B space, including the premium interior market through the launch of large-size LFDs (60” and larger) as well as products that feature both high picture quality and slim design. The company plans to concentrate on developing its premium image in this category and strengthening its market position by partnering world famous luxury brands.

Samsung Electronics has already demonstrated success in its partnership with Gucci Timepieces & Jewelry. What makes the Galaxy Note 10.1 so special?  Well, pretty much everything.  The Galaxy Note 10.1 offers a digital pen, a speedy 1.4GHz quad-core processor and 2GB of RAM. The Android tablet supports an intelligent multi-app display, allowing users to work on two tasks at once. Luhrmann noted that this is ideal for video editing, of course. But, additionally it means that the creative process is not hindered by technology.  Galaxy Note 10.1 allows you to take notes next to an article, sketch something you’re seeing in a movie, and so on. Samsung’s team emphasizes that the multi-screen feature offers true multi-tasking, since you are not forced to toggle between apps and can actually use both simultaneously.

One of the key features emphasized during Samsung’s presentation, was that the digital pen (called the S-Pen) included with the Galaxy Note 10.1 is not just a simple stylus. It is a pressure-sensitive input device, which is actually powered by technology created by Wacom, the company behind professional-grade digital drawing tablets. The Galaxy Note 10.1 comes pre-loaded with a custom-made version of Photoshop Touch, allowing users to take advantage of everything the S-Pen has to offer, making digital editing a breeze.

“The benchmarks are just off the charts,” reporters were told, after hearing about some of the apps specifically designed for the Galaxy Note 10.1. The tablet runs Android Ice Cream Sandwich OS right now, but will be upgraded to Jelly Bean by the end of the year.  You might have heard of Google’s “Project Butter” which is making everything on Jelly Bean even smoother.  Well, this will no doubt help Galaxy Note 10.1 just get better with age.

Competition in the tablet field is tough as can be, with the iPad leagues ahead. Tracking firm iSuppli released a report that Apple’s 9.7-inch tablet controls about 70 percent of the media tablet market, and that’s up from its low of 58 percent back in January. Other challengers in the 10-inch space will come from Microsoft’s Surface tablet — available in a mobile RT form and a more power-intensive Pro model — and in the long-awaited (but as yet unconfirmed) 10-inch Kindle tablet from Amazon.   Still, Samsung has high hopes for Galaxy Note 10.1 as it aims to differentiate it from its competitors.
