Samsung Electronics announced that its line-up of 2016 Smart TVs has been certified by world-class German testing and certification authority, TÜV Rheinland, for their usability. TÜV Rheinland also validated Samsung Smart TVs for their remote features. The certification and validation was awarded to Series 7 and higher Samsung Smart TVs, citing the auto-detect feature that identifies external devices connected to the TV, and the Smart Remote that controls multiple devices.

All of Samsung’s 2016 Smart TVs are designed to make the viewing experience more comfortable and intuitive for the consumer. Through the auto-detect feature, which recognizes external devices including OTT, set-top boxes, home theater systems and game consoles, along with the Smart Remote that can control multiple devices with a single remote, the TV viewing experience has never been simpler.

“We are proud that the excellence of the Samsung Smart TV has been recognized by such a prestigious testing authority as TÜV Rheinland,” said Jungkil Lee, Vice President of the Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. “At Samsung, we continue to strive to provide the highest-quality and most comfortable viewing experience for our consumers through our Smart TVs.”

At IFA 2016, Samsung highlighted its Smart TV offerings in a dedicated exhibition zone, where visitors experienced first-hand the exceptional usability of Samsung’s Smart TVs. Samsung’s improved Smart Hub, powered by Tizen, gives users instant access to a wider range of content – including TV shows, internet streaming services and games – faster and easier than ever before. Visitors were also able to experience the TV PLUS service, which was scheduled to be released during the fourth quarter in the United States, after having been previously launched in Thailand, Vietnam and Korea.

With a 140-year history, TÜV Rheinland is one of the most respected testing and certification authorities in Europe. The company assesses product safety and quality for a range of different industrial products, including electronic devices, automobiles and medical devices.

Samsung’s exhibition at IFA 2016 showcases how the company is working to redefine the consumer experience. One way is through its new range of Quantum dot SUHD televisions, which offer the ultimate in picture quality, brilliance and energy efficiency.

Nanosys, Inc., the world’s leading supplier of quantum dots and long-time partner of Samsung, has played an integral role in accelerating the development of nano-architected materials for these industry-leading displays.

President and CEO of Nanosys, Jason Hartlove, explained during an interview at IFA 2016 how quantum dots are changing the way we experience television.

Q. “Quantum dots” is the latest buzzword in the display industry. Why is this technology such a hot topic?

Quantum dots enable much brighter color meaning that you have both efficiency and improved color gamut. This means that quantum dot televisions allow for more realistic and lifelike content so that viewers can more easily recognize the dream of the content creator, and all the details he or she is trying to show.

Q.What makes Samsung’s 2016 SUHD TVs different from others on the market?

First of all, only cadmium-free materials were used in Samsung’s SUHD TVs. This means no heavy metals were utilized in the construction of these products. Great thought went into this as far as product stewardship and the life cycle of the TV set are concerned.

Secondly, I think Samsung has done a really excellent job of managing all of the content so that when the user experiences it, he’s actually seeing properly tuned and color-mapped images. He’s not just seeing some kind of blown-out color, like one would see if the TV were set to vivid mode. It’s actually a very nice representation of what the director created in terms of his intent for the final image he wants viewers to see.

Q. When will we see QDs being more widely used by TV manufacturers?

This process is continuing all the time and we’re starting to see it ramp up. We expect than in 2016, there will be roughly four to five times more quantum dot TVs in the marketplace than there were in 2015. We’re going to see that number continue to go up by many multiples. So each year, as we go forward, there will be more and more models from more and more manufacturers. We’re already seeing that from Samsung, as the number of quantum dot models they have has really increased dramatically compared to last year.

Q. Nanosys and Samsung are working together to make EL(Electroluminescence) QD TV a reality. What’s the advantage of EL QD technology, particularly from a manufacturer’s perspective?

With the next generation of quantum dots, we’re going to see a more emissive experience—something where the color jumps off the screen even more. It’s going to have a wider viewing angle. It’s going to be much brighter than what we see today, even more than what we see with SUHD.

So with all of these improvements going forward in the future, the experience will become that much more lifelike and immersive. And, of course, we’ll also see great progress in terms of manufacturing and scaling of the technology.

Q. How is Nanosys working to improve quantum dots to enable this to happen?

We’re always working on ways to make our quantum dots better, both in terms of their efficiency, color quality and reproduction, as well as bringing the costs down.

Bringing the costs down involves advances in terms of the manufacturing of quantum dots, but also how we integrate quantum dots into the set. So finding lower-cost, more efficient ways to use the quantum dot material is an area that we’re pioneering. We’re also working on integration into new types of form factors. These new types of form factors can enable lower power consumption, higher energy efficiency and cost reductions.

Q. Nanosys has been a partner of Samsung’s for quite some time. Why continue to collaborate?

Samsung is a clear leader in the electronics and solar sectors. Not only does Samsung bring deep knowledge of solar, memory and display technologies and markets, they bring tremendous experience in scaling up new technologies, which helps Nanosys accelerate the development, production and market introduction of devices enabled by our nano-architected materials.

*The views expressed in this article are the interviewee’s own, and do not necessarily reflect the official opinion of Samsung Electronics.

Corporate Citizenship in Europe

Samsung Electronics believes that technology has great potential to make lives better. Through strengths in innovation and technology, Samsung will play their part in solving some of the global challenges and to contributing to a better society.

This is why Samsung has established 1,300 Smart Classrooms, 65 Digital Academies, as well as numerous other partnership programmes across Europe. These programmes are about more than just providing physical hardware. Teachers are trained and connected to a community which inspires curriculum enrichment. Students are empowered to learn important digital skills through coding, website and app development and enhance their learning through technology.

Samsung believes in creating the classrooms of tomorrow. In Europe there is a growing digital skills gap so all Samsung citizenship programmes aim to inspire the next generation of innovators and teach them 21st century skills. This will prepare students for the jobs of the future.

Digital skills for all ages

The programmes are also designed to activate digital learning at all ages.

Samsung Smart Classrooms teach the fundamentals of digital skills during the core developmental years, 6-16 years old; whilst Samsung Digital Academies are aimed at young people aged 16-24 who need digital skills to boost their employability.

Just as its name implies, Samsung’s Family Hub refrigerator was designed to serve as a communal center for the home. Its large touchscreen display and intuitive suite of apps were crafted to streamline not only food management, but also family communication and kitchen entertainment.

In conjunction with Family Hub’s introduction to the European market, Samsung’s Vice President of Refrigerator Product Marketing, Ik-su Choi, explains how the company’s latest refrigerators have been optimized for European families’ use.

Q. This year, Samsung created a Family Hub refrigerator with a design that reflects a more European style. What have Europeans’ pre-launch reactions to Family Hub been like?

There has been great interest in seeing the launch of a BMF (bottom-mount freezer) model for the European market. We’ve received a lot of questions regarding their introduction there since they were first released in the US and Korea, but because we needed time to cultivate suitable partner companies and properly localize the product for each country, we decided to launch Family Hub at IFA.

In terms of content, Family Hub’s food management and smart home functions were very popular. There were also a lot of questions regarding the mobile sync function.

Q. Family Hub is clearly designed for family use. Nevertheless, there are some cultural differences in terms of family life between Korea and Europe. Do you think European consumers may utilize Family Hub differently in their daily lives?

Family Hub is equipped with content that is communicable worldwide, as one thing that is universal and unchanging is the value of family.

As a center of family interaction, Family Hub can be a platform that allows families to communicate better and more conveniently, through digital handwritten notes as well as apps like Sticki. If Family Hub plays this small role in helping people have conversations, I believe that is a meaningful start.

Q. You are an expert in the field of home appliances and are well-versed in the history of refrigerators. What do you think their future will be?

Previously, capacity and storage efficiency were the main competitive factors with regard to refrigerators. Our company has historically excelled in these aspects, regularly achieving a number-one market ranking through extreme innovation.

Under the new paradigm—centered on IoT—consumers’ needs for new categories of products like the Family Hub refrigerator will grow. Refrigerators will no longer remain merely storage devices for food, but will become devices that families use together. They will become a central kitchen appliance, allowing people to communicate, and not only store food, but even purchase and manage it.

Consumers’ need for not just simple refrigerators but smart refrigerators will continue to increase, and we will respond to this trend by further evolving Family Hub in ways that are customized to various markets—utilizing their environments—and continuing to expand our lineup.

Q. Design has traditionally been the key factor driving consumers’ BMF refrigerator purchases. How did the European Family Hub’s design come about, and how are the refrigerators built to remain durable, reliable and innovative for years to come?

The BMF-style refrigerator—refrigerator above, freezer below—is the most common design in Europe. That is why we released this style of refrigerator, fit for the European market and enhanced with Family Hub’s premium functions and usability. To build it, we loaded a large interactive LCD screen onto a previous BMF framework, resulting in a Chef Collection design of peerless technology that fits beautifully in the kitchen.

In terms of reliability, Family Hub’s hardware and software have been designed to be continuously upgraded, and in the case of the LCD screen, a product that guarantees 10 years of durability was used. By attaching it using a modular method, in which replacement and repairs are easy, we allow continuous technological upgrades, as well as changes to reflect trends.

Q. What are some of the apps and inner features that will help consumers bring their cooking skills up to par with, say, the Michelin-starred chefs of Samsung’s Club des Chefs?

We are planning to load Family Hub with apps like Allrecipes, Whisk, ChefKoch—a local recipe app—and the Club des Chefs app, which all offer delicious recipes. We are also planning to provide insight into different ways to cook using Family Hub.

Q. Which Family Hub app do you believe is a game changer?

Family Hub’s applications constantly evolve. It is composed of apps that consumers need based on the four pillars that fit consumer trends, and it will constantly be updated to reflect those needs. Thus, Family Hub itself will surely play the game-changer role that changes the market’s dynamics.

Q. Family Hub is further proof that Samsung is setting a standard in IoT. Why do you believe Samsung has managed to achieve such success in this relatively new field, and how is that experience reflected in the Family Hub refrigerator?

In this IoT era, consumers have grown used to conveniently connecting with devices, based on their smartphone experience, and they want to connect with even more devices in ways that further benefit them in daily life.

Samsung applied technical expertise gained from smartphone and Smart TV experience, along with advanced abundant-usage scenarios based on our accumulated knowhow of household appliances, to create Family Hub and deliver seamless usability to consumers. Drawing from such expertise, we will be able to deliver differentiated user experiences that could not be provided in the past, and bring about big change in consumers’ lifestyles through Family Hub.

Q. The Family Hub refrigerator offers incredible insight into the freshness of our food. What are some of the ways it allows us to store goods efficiently while saving energy?

Family Hub features a large LCD screen that is efficiently managed with an adjoining sensor. By using the inner-view camera, which allows users to see the inside of the refrigerator without opening the door, users can prevent unnecessary energy consumption. This is one of the reasons why Family Hub has a high-energy consumption efficiency rating of A++.

Family Hub also helps minimize food waste by keeping track of the location of fresh foods and their expiration dates and allowing users to prevent unnecessary purchases by giving them the ability to look inside their refrigerator via mobile device anytime, anywhere.

At this year’s IFA exhibition, Samsung created a stunning work of art that captivated event attendees and showcased the innovative Quantum Dot (QD) technology powering its latest range of SUHD TVs.

Quantum Dots are nano-sized crystals that are highly efficient at absorbing and emitting light, making them perfect for implementation in displays. Samsung’s eye-catching art piece, created with the help of renowned German artists in various fields, succeeded in visualizing QD’s lasting color, high brightness, interesting history and ability to convey compelling stories.

Visitors of the exhibit were immediately immersed in QD color via three impressive media sculptures assembled from dozens of SUHD TVs, which were surrounded by brilliant “Quantum Dots” of every hue.

To bring the installation to life, Samsung first collaborated with a local media artist to visualize stories that would best portray QD’s pure, natural color. An installation artist then created a layout allowing for an optimal viewing experience of Samsung’s products. Finally, a sound artist completed the immersive atmosphere through the incorporation of carefully selected music.

The artists drew inspiration for the piece from medieval stained glass—of which QD’s effects were first observed. The depth of color showcased in the art piece is expressive of Quantum Dots’ ability to create similarly beautiful, long-lasting color and revolutionize the viewing experience.

On the right side of the exhibit, guests were invited to discover how light-emitting-material research has historically guided TV development and learn more about QD’s interesting history. At the center, interactive installations allowed them to closely examine why Quantum Dots are able to produce up to one billion shades of pure, lasting color.

One of the most popular installations examined QD’s potential to revolutionize a variety of different fields. By pointing a tablet toward designated sections of an intricate diorama of a city, guests could view augmented reality animations of QD’s possible applications in medicine, solar cells, electronic batteries and lighting.

In addition, visitors were given an up-close look at the dynamic QD displays, side-by-side with conventional TVs. This allowed them to see for themselves how, even in bright conditions or under the lights of a convention hall, Samsung’s SUHD TVs are able to display lifelike detail and natural color, yielding the highest level of picture clarity on the market today.

Samsung Electronics, the global TV industry leader, is elevating its presence at IFA 2016 with a special exhibition designed by a team of rising German artists. The installation, entitled The Origin of Quantum Dot, showcases the beauty of Samsung’s SUHD TVs with Quantum dot display, while incorporating video, lighting and musical elements.

The Origin of Quantum Dot is a stained glass-inspired art installation designed by Andreas Nicolas Fischer, Schnellebuntebilder, Christopher M. Bauder and Kling klang klong. The artists came together from different creative backgrounds – including sound, media art and sculpture – to build the unique work of art. The piece contains 45 SUHD TVs and 9,000 shards of stained glass.

“We designed The Origin of Quantum Dot exhibition, the largest we’ve ever produced, so that visitors at IFA can directly experience the visual excellence of the premium SUHD TV with Quantum dot display,” said HS Kim, President of the Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. “We are proud to have partnered with such talented, local artists to bring this visual concept to life.”

Samsung’s IFA Exhibition to Highlight Innovative Home Entertainment Features

The Rethink Zone, which is located in the center of the Samsung booth at IFA, introduces innovative products with convenient, functional features to make day-to-day life easier for consumers. Additionally, the zone will highlight how these products have impacted the home entertainment and appliance industries. Visitors will have an opportunity to learn more about Samsung’s SUHD TV with Quantum dot, the Serif TV and more.

At the Quantum dot Experience Zone, which is located at the entrance of the Samsung booth at IFA, visitors are invited to learn more about the past, present and future of Quantum dot. This will include more information on its durability, size and material, and color efficiency, as well as its future uses. Visitors will also be greeted by 45 SUHD TV models, ranging from 65- to 78-inches in size, as part of The Origin of Quantum Dot art installation.

In the Smart TV Zone, visitors can preview TV PLUS, the Video-on-Demand service scheduled for release in the United States during the fourth quarter, and Europe in 2017. Samsung previously launched TV PLUS in Thailand, Vietnam and Korea.

In addition to TV PLUS, several of Samsung’s content partners, including 20th Century Fox, Warner Brothers, Amazon and Netflix, will introduce their HDR and UHD services. Various games that can be played without a console will be introduced as well. Gamefly, a streaming game service, is launching new games dedicated for Samsung Smart TVs every month, and at the upcoming IFA, visitors will be able to enjoy 2K’s Borderlands and Bioshock at the site.

The AV Zone will feature a complete 4K entertainment experience, equipped with Samsung SUHD TVs, Ultra HD Blu-ray player (UBD-K8500) and the HW-K950 Soundbar featuring Dolby Atmos® technology. Visitors will have the opportunity to experience cinematic experience and harmony of Samsung’s 4K home entertainment devices.

“As display technology and innovation through light emission has progressed over the last century, the utilization of Quantum dot technology has signaled a new era in TV history,” said Kim.

The earliest principles of Quantum dot technology can be traced back to the Middle Ages, when stained glass windows were sought after for the way they emitted color through natural light. In the 1980s, Quantum dots were first discovered as display materials, utilizing ultra-fine semi-conductive particles 20,000 times smaller than a strand of human hair to emit different colors through light.

Quantum dots express a wider range of colors simply by varying the size of the particles. This allows Samsung’s line of SUHD TVs with Quantum dot display to produce the most lifelike colors yet with a durable foundation that maintains the brightness and color of the displays.

Samsung Electronics’ booth will be open at Level 2 of CityCube Berlin from September 2 through 7 for IFA 2016.

Samsung opened its IFA 2016 press conference in Berlin with a simple yet bold pledge: to redefine the consumer experience. Over the next 45 minutes, in presentations that delved into the company’s European roots, and with the announcements of new products and partnerships expanding its home entertainment, visual display and home appliance offerings, Samsung demonstrated just how much it has already delivered on its vow.

Those attending the showcase at the heart of Messe Berlins’ CityCube arena were welcomed by David Lowes, Chief Marketing Officer of Samsung Electronics Europe, who began by noting the company’s ongoing investment in the continent that 14,000 of its employees call home, as well as its drive to deliver innovations tailored to European consumers. After the introduction, Michael Zoeller, VP and European Head of Visual Display at Samsung Electronics Europe, kicked off a morning of exciting reveals with new additions to Samsung’s Quantum dot display range, briefly tracing Samsung’s pioneering research with the technology, which allows its SUHD TVs to offer the most true-to-life viewing experience available today and enable Samsung TVs todisplay up to one billion colors. He also revealed the world’s largest Quantum dot TV—the 88-inch KS9800—and the first curved Quantum dot PC monitors.

Later, Won-Jin Lee, Executive Vice President of Samsung Electronics, took to the stage to announce further steps to enrich the viewing experience in the intuitive Samsung Smart Remote and enhancements to Smart Hub, allowing users to more seamlessly find and launch premium content on their Smart TVs. As Mr. Lee told the crowd, “Great television is not just about outstanding picture quality; it’s also about amazing content,” which is why Samsung is strengthening its relationships with partners such as Netflix and Amazon to deliver high-quality HDR (high dynamic range) content for European users to view on the outstanding SUHD TVs.

Other highlights of the event included the unveiling of new additions to Samsung’s AddWash line of washing machines, as well as the announcement that Samsung’s Family Hub refrigerators are finally coming to Europe and will feature a Club des Chefs app—a reveal made by three of the Club’s Michelin-starred members themselves: Michel Roux, Michel Troisgros and Elena Arzak.

Samsung wrapped up the showcase by highlighting another vow: its commitment to use technology to enrich European communities. Evelyn Nicola, Sustainability & Citizenship Manager of Samsung Electronics Europe, discussed the company’s Smart Classroom and Digital Academy programs, which teach European students valuable digital skills that will boost their employability. Samsung’s goal with the programs, Ms. Nicola said, was to reach 400,000 students by 2019—a figure, she was pleased to announce, that will be eclipsed later this year.

At the end of the event, attendees were invited to experience Samsung’s enriching innovations firsthand. In case you missed it, check out the highlights below.

Samsung Electronics used its IFA 2016 press conference today in Berlin to demonstrate how it is redefining the consumer experience, showcasing a range of new products and partnerships for the European home appliance, visual display and home entertainment markets.

“At IFA 2016, we wanted to show the European commumity how we are continually striving to redefine the Samsung experience. For all our customers and partners – and across all our product lines, from television and home audio to home appliances. Everything Samsung creates is borne out of our determination to enrich peoples’ daily lives with innovative technology, based on a deep understanding of what consumers really want and need.” said David Lowes, Chief Marketing Officer for Samsung Electronics Europe.

Committed to Europe’s Potential

During the press conference, held once again in the CityCube at Messe Berlin, Samsung reiterated its commitment to Europe, employing 14,000 people in 34 countries. Samsung’s products are infused with European flair, fashion, design and the finest traditions of manufacturing excellence. With Q2 revenue up five percent year on year, seven out of 10 European households owning a Samsung mobile phone, and one in three families watching their favorite shows and films on Samsung TVs, the company believes now is the right time to invest even further in Europe’s potential.

In keeping with this commitment, Samsung announced a new partnership with MakerBot, the global leader in 3D printing, which will equip schools, colleges and museums in five European markets with 3D printers, as well as train teachers and students alike in the use of the technology. With more than 100,000 MakerBot printers around the world, it represents the world’s largest 3D printing community and an incredibly powerful tool inside the classroom. Samsung also announced that, as part of the European Commission’s Grand Coalition for Digital Jobs, it is on track to deliver its pledge to support 400,000 young people by the end of 2016 – three years earlier than expected.

The Future of Television: Redefined by Quantum Dot

Samsung also reinforced its commitment to Quantum dot display technology at IFA 2016.

Samsung revealed our new Quantum dot TV, the 88-inch KS9800, offering the ultimate in picture quality, brilliance and, as with all of Samsung’s SUHD TVs, a display capable of producing up to one billion colors. Samsung now offers the largest range of SUHD TVs in Europe, with 19 available sizes from 43” up to 88”, capitalizing on the limitless flexibility of Quantum dot in terms of screen size and definition. Samsung also announced the world’s first curved Quantum dot PC Monitors – the new CF791, with a 34” Ultra Wide QHD screen and the stunning new CFG70, the first curved monitor with a one millisecond moving picture response time and 144 hertz refresh rate for smooth, flawless gaming.

Samsung is also the only company able to offer consumers cadmium-free Quantum Dot TVs – a point made by guest speaker, Jason Hartlove, President & CEO of Nanosys and one of the world’s top authorities on Quantum dot technology. Hartlove revealed Quantum dot is among the most stable and reliable display materials available anywhere on the planet, enabling superior performance and more environmentally-friendly displays with an extraordinary lifespan. Such is the company’s confidence in the reliability of Qantum dot, Samsung announced a new 10-year warranty for its SUHD TVs with Quantum dot display, protecting consumers against the effects of burn-in for an entire decade.

At the press conference, Won Jin Lee, the Executive Vice President of the Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics, introduced Samsung’s content platform, Smart Hub, and announced the formation of a new premium HDR content partnership that will help realize the full potential of Quantum Dot SUHD TV. This included plans to expand Samsung’s TV Plus service – which has proven so popular in South Korea – to both the United States and Europe.

Ever mindful that great television is about amazing content as well as outstanding picture quality, Samsung said it was strengthening its collaborative relationships with global partners, such as Amazon and Netflix. Netflix in particular is expanding its range of HDR content for European customers, with film titles such as Marco Polo, The Do-Over and The Ridiculous Six. European partners including RTVE and Insight TV will also begin to offer HDR content in the second half of 2016.

Samsung also showcased the capabilities of the Samsung Smart Remote, which allows users to easily navigate all of their connected devices with one single remote control. The Smart remote is designed to auto-detect any and all external devices connected to the TV, making it simple for consumers to switch between and use them – without having to hunt around for multiple remotes.

Lastly, Samsung underlined its position as the leader in European home audio and the number one soundbar manufacturer in the region. On display were products including Samsung’s Wireless Audio 360 line-up and HW-K950 Soundbar featuring Dolby Atmos® audio technology for cinematic, multi-dimensional sound. Combined with its SUHD TV, UHD Blu-ray Player, and HDR content ecosystem, such a range makes Samsung the only company capable of providing the complete 4K home entertainment experience.

Redefining the Fastest Growing Brand in Home Appliances

Samsung’s drive to redefine the consumer experience goes well beyond the living room. Over the last three years, Samsung’s home appliance business has grown approximately five times faster than the rest of the industry in Europe. The success of new products such as AddWash, first revealed at IFA 2015, have made Samsung the number one premium washing machine brand in France, Poland, Italy and the UK. At IFA 2016, Samsung announced two new AddWash products – the AddWash Combo, which eliminates the need to purchase a separate dryer, and the AddWash Slim, which can fit into a smaller kitchen space without compromising on load size.

Following extensive research into what European consumers really want from their kitchen, Samsung introduced three new built-in line-ups, the Contemporary Line with a new built-in refrigerator, the Black Line which uses a semi-matte black that gives modern, timeless look, and the original Chef Collection. The new true built-in refrigerator unit from the Contemporary Line delivers a seamless fit and flawless, advanced performance thanks to innovative technologies such as No Frost, Twin Cooling PlusTM, Cool Select Zone Plus.

Samsung also announced that its sensational Family Hub is coming to Europe. This top-of-the-line refrigerator also features Twin Cooling Plus TM technologyto maximize food freshness, as well as Precise Chef Cooling TM, which keeps temperature fluctuations within plus or minus 0.5 degrees. Family Hub also features a special ‘Chef Zone TM’, which is ideal for managing temperature-sensitive proteins. And, of course, its three innerview cameras take photos that consumers can access via their mobile devices, enabling them to see what’s inside wherever they may be.

Family Hub also features a 21.5-inch Full HD touchscreen offering consumers a wide range of functionality. It can serve as the family’s interactive white board for notes, photos, shared calendars and artwork. Content can be uploaded directly via the touchscreen or remotely by mobile phone or tablet. Consumers can also use the touch screen and online shopping app to order groceries straight from their kitchen for delivery right to their door. Samsung is partnering with a range of European online grocery shopping portals including premium Italian food provider, Eataly, to other European food delivery services such as Supermercato24 and Switzerland’s coop@home.

Family Hub will also give European customers a chance to cook with the masters via the Club des Chefs App. Straight from the Family Hub screen, Club des Chefs offers professional cooking tips through text and video advice. Being able to watch world-class culinary experts at work on the upper half of the screen while being talked through a recipe on the lower half is an excellent example of how Samsung is redefining the kitchen experience.

Samsung Electronics’ booth will be open at Level 2 of City Cube Berlin from September 2 through 7 for IFA 2016.

Samsung Electronics today announces three new built-in appliance product lineups, the Contemporary Line, the Black Line and the original Chef Collection, designed to meet the tastes of European consumers. All new models in the lineups balance function with bespoke design in ways that blur the distinction between home furnishing and home appliance.

The Contemporary Line is Samsung’s newest built-in lineup. It features many of Samsung’s highly regarded kitchen appliance technologies and innovations, and the new true built-in refrigerator unit is expected to perform as strongly as Samsung’s freestanding models, which currently lead Europe’s refrigerator market.

The new true built-in refrigerator unit from the Contemporary Line is backed by thoughtful and flexible internal compartments, and innovative technologies such as No Frost, Twin Cooling PlusTM, Cool Select Zone Plus. The No Frost feature addresses consumer demand to eliminate frost, which is an old problem of traditional built-in refrigerators, that can ruin food taste, cause bacteria contamination, and even harm fridge performance. Cool Select Zone Plus allows users to set freezer temperatures between -23℃ and 2℃ so they can customize their built-in to maximize food freshness. The refrigerator in the Contemporary Line can even be controlled wirelessly with Samsung’s new dongle, allowing owners to monitor and control settings from a distance.

The Black Line is introduced in Europe at the second half of this year with its refrigerator awaiting release early next year. The bold move to use an unconventional color to paint Samsung’s new built-in package reflects a shift in trend, which sees the kitchen as a central living space that is more than just a place for cooking and dining. The semi-matte black finish absorbs surrounding light and gives a modern and timeless look. The Black Line includes a refrigerator, oven, compact oven, induction cooktop, range hood, and dishwasher.

The Chef Collection is a premium lineup comprising a Kitchen FitTM design refrigerator, built-in oven, compact oven, warming drawer, induction cooktop, range hood and dishwasher. These units were inspired by insights from the Michelin-starred chefs who are members of Samsung’s exclusive Club des Chefs. The superior design and innovative technologies are geared towards maximizing the cooking and dining experience. The refrigerator boasts Samsung’s Twin or Triple Cooling technology, which cools the fridge and freezer separately with two or three different evaporators so each compartment maintains optimal temperatures and humidity.

“We see much potential for built-ins to meet customer demand in Europe and have invested aggressively to develop a thoughtfully designed and highly innovative lineup,” said Suh Byung-Sam, Head of Samsung’s Digital Appliances business. “We will continue to target the market here in Europe with unbeatable technologies and features that uniquely meet consumer needs.”

Samsung Electronics’ booth will be open at Level 2 of City Cube Berlin from September 2 through 7 for IFA 2016.

At IFA 2016, Samsung Electronics will reinforce its leadership in the growing gaming market with the release of its most powerful and visually-compelling curved gaming monitors yet – the CFG70 (24- and 27-inch models) and CF791 (34-inch model) displays. Samsung will formally introduce the latest additions to its curved monitor portfolio at its IFA press conference, scheduled for September 1, 2016 at 11 a.m. inside the Messe Berlin event center’s City Cube Hall.

CFG70

As the first curved quantum dot gaming monitors, Samsung’s CFG70 and CF791 express brilliant colors across a 125-percent sRGB spectrum, while employing an environmentally-safe cadmium-free design. This luminance emphasizes a range of otherwise-hidden game details in both light and dark settings, offering unprecedented visual realism designed to capture the attention of even the most hardcore gamers.

To further amplify the details in today’s advanced gaming titles, each CFG70 and CF791 monitor undergoes rigorous factory calibration prior to shipment. This treatment includes optimization of various settings, including black gamma levels for enhanced brightness and white balance levels for temperature management, enabling gamers to enjoy a sharp and brilliant picture regardless of the game in play.

“As the gaming market continues to enjoy rapid worldwide growth, gamers expect advanced display technologies that can bring out the latest video game features and optimize the gameplay experience,” said Seog-gi Kim, Senior Vice President, Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. “By enhancing our pioneering curved gaming monitors with quantum dot technology, our CFG70 and CF791 displays further surround players and make them feel as if they are part of the game. We are excited to demonstrate this futuristic and immersive gaming environment at IFA 2016.”

Samsung’s quantum dot technology is already featured in the company’s UHD televisions. At IFA 2016, in line with the show’s innovation theme, Samsung will highlight how including this tested technology in the new CFG70 and CF791 displays brings the intricacies of today’s video games to life.

An Experience that’s Ahead of the Game

The new CFG70 curved monitor incorporates a host of user-friendly features to create a premium multi-sensory gaming destination. The CFG70’s “Super Arena” design aligns 1800R curvature with sound interactive LED lighting that lets players fully experience the thrill of victory. This format also includes 1 m/s moving picture response time, making it the first curved gaming monitor to offer such functionality. A rapid refresh rate of up to 144 Hz further ensures a seamless and uninterrupted presentation.

For added game management convenience, the CFG70 includes Samsung’s user-friendly Gaming UX OSD interface. During competition, gamers can access the interface’s intuitive on-screen dashboard to view all essential settings, ranging from response time to refresh rate, in a single glance. They can also easily adjust gameplay settings through shortcut hot keys located on the front and back of the monitor.

The Gaming Industry’s Sharpest Curve

With a 1500R curvature (indicating a curvature radius of 1,500 mm) design, Samsung’s CF791 is the most curved gaming monitor currently on the market. Combined with a 100 Hz refresh rate and embedded AMD FreeSync Technology, functionality that synchronizes screen refresh rates with gamers’ AMD graphics cards, the CF791 monitor offers consistent full-screen presentation. Additionally, the CF791’s ultra-wide 21:9 aspect ratio further preserves content quality during multi-screen competition.

Beyond its on-screen visual enhancements, Samsung’s new CF791 monitor features a sleek composition that adds ambience and style to any environment. The display’s boundless design removes visual distraction and helps gamers stay focused on the screen, rather than the display itself. Players also can customize the monitor’s alignment to match their unique ergonomic needs through a vertically-adjustable stand.

As part of the launch of its new monitors, Samsung will offer IFA 2016 attendees a first-hand opportunity to experience this redesigned, immersive arena through an interactive gaming zone. Samsung’s booth will include stations where visitors can sample several of today’s leading video game titles on the CFG70 and CF791 monitors. Supporting large-format SMART LED signage will broadcast the competition – and visual presentation – to the wider IFA audience.

Samsung Electronics today announces that the European edition of its highly acclaimed Family Hub refrigerator will be unveiled at IFA 2016 in Berlin. The new 2-door refrigerator places the fridge on top and the freezer at the bottom, a configuration preferred by European consumers.

Like the original Family Hub, the European Edition features Samsung’s exclusive Twin Cooling PlusTM technology, which cools the fridge and freezer separately with two different evaporators and keeps the temperature and humidity at optimal levels for foods. Family Hub also boasts Precise Chef CoolingTM, which holds temperatures to smaller fluctuations of just ±0.5 degrees. Together, Twin Cooling PlusTM and Precise Chef CoolingTM help users maximize food freshness at constant, optimal temperatures without mixing odours between the fridge and freezer.

Three inner-view cameras take photos of refrigerator contents each time the doors close. Users can easily see what they have at any time and from anywhere with their smartphone. Family Hub owners can also keep track of expiration dates by entering the number of days their food has left. The number automatically counts down, details that can be checked on the touchscreen without even opening the door through the Food Reminder app.

Consumers can also conveniently shop for groceries from the comfort of their kitchen counter via Online Shopping. Samsung has partnered with various online grocery shopping services from all regions such as Eataly, Supermercato24, and coop@home in Europe. Owners of the Family Hub will also be able to access exclusive recipes created by members of Samsung’s Club des Chefs, as well as thousands of recipes from global partners such as allrecipes, the most downloaded recipe app in the world, Whisk and CHEFKOCH.DE.

Attached to the European Family Hub’s fridge door is a 21.5-inch touchscreen that can function as the family’s interactive White Board. Through the Samsung Smart Home app, family members can share photos and memos in real time from wherever they are. Users can also synchronize their smartphone calendars and share each other’s schedules with their family through the Sticki app.

With the kitchen serving as the center of the home and a common gathering spot, the Samsung Family Hub Refrigerator is perfectly suited to entertain friends and family. It offers options for TV Mirroring and music streaming to play through its built-in speaker.

The Family Hub is at the core of Samsung’s efforts to redefine kitchen experiences. In addition to its role in food preparation and storage, the Family Hub also acts as a hub for family communications, entertainment, and smart home services. With these functions, Family Hub transforms the kitchen into an ideal space for family time.

“We designed the BMF Family Hub with the needs of European families and contemporary households in mind,” said Suh Byung-Sam, Head of Samsung’s Digital Appliances business. “By introducing unbeatable technologies and connected features that truly fit European lifestyles in the refrigerator market here in Europe, we plan to continue our number one position.”

Samsung Electronics’ booth will be open at Level 2 of City Cube Berlin from September 2 through 7 for IFA 2016.

Samsung Electronics, the leader in home entertainment, announced at IFA 2016 that it will release its HW-K950 Soundbar featuring Dolby Atmos® technology in the European market. Samsung will also unveil an improved version of its exclusive ‘Samsung Multiroom’ mobile application. Samsung Multiroom pairs with the soundbar and offers a more convenient way to enjoy its immersive surround sound.

Equipped with a 5.1.4 channel system, the HW-K950 soundbar houses a total of 15 speakers, including main speaker set, rear speakers and subwoofer. The soundbar’s up-firing technology, designed to provide more realistic audio, projects sound toward the ceiling, as well as horizontally across the room.

“With our HW-K950 soundbar supporting wireless surround sound and featuring Dolby Atmos® technology, Samsung gives consumers a supreme audio experience,” said Jurack Chae, Senior Vice President of the Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. “By combining the HW-K950 soundbar’s surround sound, the premium picture quality of the SUHD TV with Quantum dot display and the latest content available through our Ultra HD Blu-ray player (UBD-K8500), we’re proud to offer our consumers a complete 4K entertainment experience.”

The soundbar is designed to be convenient for consumers. It includes accessibility features to support both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity, and listeners can control the soundbar using the Samsung Multiroom app on their smartphone or tablet. For a seamless listening experience, any incoming calls or alarms will not interrupt the audio.

The upgraded Samsung Multiroom app also features a simpler, more intuitive interface that allows consumers to quickly and easily search for their favorite functions and content. With the app, users can access music for all sources, including saved playlists and their favorite music streaming services. Once a music source or specific song is selected from the display bar at the top of the screen, a mini-player, located just below the display bar, can be used to play, pause or change the volume of the song.

In 2016, Samsung was the leading global soundbar company, responsible for more than 24 percent of the total market share. Samsung will showcase its complete 4K entertainment experience with a grand exhibition at IFA 2016, the largest consumer electronics trade show in Europe.

Samsung Electronics’ booth will be open at Level 2 of City Cube Berlin from September 2 through 7 for IFA 2016.

Samsung Electronics announced today that all of its 2016 UHD TV models have attained the Ultra High Definition (UHD) TV certification from Digital Europe (DE), a collaborative body of European IT and consumer electronics businesses. Comprised of 62 corporate members and 37 National Trade Associations, Digital Europe is one of the most influential organizations representing the digital technology industry in Europe.

Samsung TVs, ranging from the 2016 SUHD TV lineup to the Series 6 UHD TVs, have met the strict standards for UHD TV certification as specified by DE, and will now bear the European UHD TV logo, as well as the Consumer Technology Association (CTA) label. Both certification labels will be on display on Samsung UHD TVs at this year’s IFA exhibition.

For its certification, DE has specifically defined a ‘Pixel’ as the minimum picture resolution element, capable of rendering the same luminance scale as the entire display. The horizontal and vertical pixel count must be of the complete red, green and blue triple sub-pixel block, while not counting additional non-RGB sub-pixels.

Additional criteria to earn the DE certification include:

Minimum native resolution of the display (e.g. LCD, PDP, OLED) or display engine (e.g. DLP) is 3840 x 2160 in 16:9 aspect ratio

Minimum supported colorimetric is at BT.709 or above

The display-device has at least one end-to-end signal path available to the user that does not render a UHD input at a frame rate or resolution lower than that received over the UHD interface from the source

The display-device has at least one end-to-end signal path available to the user that does not reduce the resolution, nor reduce the frame rate of a UHD input during processing prior to display

“Our TVs will serve as an important reference point for consumers when they are looking for a UHD TV that offers premium picture quality, even though they may not be as familiar with difficult technological terms and implications,” said Simon Sung, Senior Vice President of the Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. “We are confident that this new certification from Digital Europe, marked by a UHD logo, will give consumers additional confidence when purchasing a UHD TV.”

Beginning in September, Samsung will be rolling out new consumer-facing messages surrounding the picture quality of its UHD TVs, designed to help consumers make an informed decision when purchasing a UHD TV. The new messaging will also highlight the utilization of RGB panels in Samsung UHD TVs, with the effect of reducing distortion, as well as familiarize consumers with related UHD technologies.
