With the launch of the Galaxy S8 in China on May 25, Samsung Electronics introduced a selection of market-exclusive mobile services, as well as an enhanced UX tailored to suit the lifestyle of Chinese consumers. Check out some of the key features developed specifically for the Chinese market below.

Home Screen

The Chinese edition of the Galaxy S8 lets users check the weather at a glance, quickly access five default apps and conveniently browse their other apps, right from the Home screen. They also have the option to use the standard Galaxy S8 Home screen arrangement, which features a vertical swiping interface to navigate between the Home and Apps screens.

Home screen (two on the left), Vertical Swiping Interface (two on the right)

Interactive Services

Chinese consumers frequently use their mobile devices to do tasks that have traditionally been done offline, like purchasing movie tickets, making a doctor’s appointment and booking train tickets. The Chinese-exclusive Samsung Assistant app and Yellow Page, a service accessible via a tab in the Phone app, along with the Messages app together help to facilitate transactions such as these.

Through Samsung Assistant and Yellow Page, users can browse for companies or services. After making a purchase or request, such as booking a train ticket, Samsung Assistant provides related information like traffic delays and reminders such as imminent departure times.

The Messages app, meanwhile, extracts and displays these notifications separately, and categorizes them for easier navigation.

Samsung Assistant (left: landing page, center: ticket purchasing page, right: reminder card)

Yellow Page (left), Messages (center and right)

Calendar

Users can simultaneously view both solar and lunar calendars via the Calendar app. The Galaxy S8 also offers a subscribable calendar that gives users the option of being notified about various events going on around them.

Camera

The Camera and Image editor apps are loaded with approximately 40 stamps designed especially for the Chinese market.

Smart Manager

Smart Manager features three additional Chinese-exclusive functions to enhance the mobile experience. Mobile Data lets users automatically purchase additional data; App Management gives users more control over their apps; and Blocked Calls and Messages enables users to block spam calls, including robocalls and telemarketing calls, and messages.

Samsung Health

Samsung Health provides China-specific information such as health-related events, as well as drug and clinic information.

Apps

Samsung collaborated with its Chinese partners to provide the best in entertainment via its Samsung Music and Samsung Video apps. In addition, S Roaming lets users easily and affordably use and manage data roaming services when traveling internationally.

Additional Features

A Chinese-language input tool facilitates seamless Chinese input functionality. Through Samsung’s partnership with Sougou, a leading Chinese search engine, this feature is continuously being improved. The Chinese model of the Galaxy S8 also boasts a screen recorder function.

Samsung Electronics officially announced today the commercial launch of its Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ to select markets around the world. The flagship smartphones are initially available in four markets – U.S., Canada, Puerto Rico and Korea – and will continue rolling out to additional markets in the weeks ahead.

With the bezel-less Infinity Display, the Galaxy S8 builds upon its history of creating stunning designs to offer an immersive viewing experience. The smooth lines and ergonomic curvature of the phone ensure that the 5.8-inch Galaxy S8 and 6.2-inch Galaxy S8+ both look great and fit comfortably into your hand. The upgraded specs of the Galaxy S8 offer both increased performance and efficiency thanks to the industry’s first 10nm processor, Gigabit LTE and Gigabit Wi-Fi compatibility and the first officially designated Mobile HDR PremiumTM screen.

The Galaxy S8 features an upgraded 8MP F1.7 front camera, complete with smart autofocus. The 12MP F1.7 Dual Pixel rear camera ships with enhanced multi-frame image processing, which creates sharper photos, even in low-light environments. Enhanced biometric security capabilities come standard on the Galaxy S8 with its advanced iris scanner and facial recognition technology.

The launch of the Galaxy S8 is complimented by an expanded ecosystem that features impressive new services and devices, including: Bixby, the Galaxy S8’s intelligent new interface; Samsung DeX, which provides a desktop-like experience for the Galaxy S8; intuitive IoT device management via Samsung Connect; expanded healthcare solutions through Samsung Health; and expanded mobile payment capabilities with Samsung Pay.

Samsung Electronics today announced the commercial launch of its new Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge around the globe including US, Europe, Singapore, Australia and Korea, starting from today.

The newest additions to the Galaxy family, Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge feature a refined design, more advanced camera, streamlined software functionality and unparalleled connectivity to an array of products, services, and experiences.

The 5.1-inch Galaxy S7 and 5.5-inch Galaxy S7 edge are constructed with 3D glass and metal – all in a sleek, durable design with ergonomic curves for a comfortable grip. Without compromising on design, the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge both have increased utility with IP68 water and dust resistance, a microSD card slot and fast wired and wireless charging technology.

Thanks to the revolutionary Dual Pixel technology, a brighter lens with wider aperture and bigger pixels, the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge deliver brighter and sharper images, even in low light. Samsung also made significant hardware and software updates to optimize gaming performance on the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge. The powerful processer and bigger battery capacity ensure longer playing time, while the internal cooling system keeps the device from overheating. Game Launcher, a new add-on for gamers, allows users to manage battery consumption and minimize notifications.

Beyond the smartphones, Samsung is redefining what is possible by introducing a constellation of seamless mobile experiences – whether it’s the seamless connection between the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge and the new Gear S2 Classic to monitor fitness, or the connection with Gear VR to “travel” the world. Additionally, Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge users can also get the best mobile payment service with Samsung Pay; it’s secured by Samsung KNOX, easy-to-use and accepted almost anywhere. As such, mobile payments are available to more merchants and consumers than ever before.

Samsung Electronics announced that it will support three of its current C-Lab (Creative Lab) projects as fully-fledged startups, with the goal of each company’s products and services going live by the first half of next year. The C-Lab, established at the end of 2012, is one of Samsung’s primary Innovation Programs, and helps its employees to nurture creative business ideas.

The three projects to be launched as startups are:

TipTalk – a remarkable new UX that that can recognize sounds through body parts, with potential applications in the wearable device sector

IoFIT – a new prototype ‘smart shoes solution’ that can correct a person’s gait and body posture, with potential applications in the healthcare and wellness sectors

WalkON – a new app and mobile platform that makes walking more fun, by rewarding people with vouchers from brand partners when they achieve a target number of steps

“Samsung has always strived to both attract and support innovative talent, and provide them the opportunities they deserve to bring their ideas to life,” said Jaiil Lee, Vice President and Head of the Creativity and Innovation Center at Samsung Electronics. “Now, we want to go even further and invest in the vision of our entrepreneurial employees, helping them to start their own business journey.”

As nine employees from the startups leave Samsung, they will establish an independent company . Samsung will provide counsel by sharing its technology and management expertise with each company during the early stages of their business lifecycle, ensuring stable growth and guaranteeing the independence and freedom of each startup’s management team.

Employees also have the option to formally re-join Samsung.

Samsung believes that the initiative to turn the C-Lab projects into startups will further encourage staff to develop creative ideas. The C-Lab, which was founded to encourage and foster creative thinking and a creative culture throughout the company, has so far supported more than 100 projects.

Samsung Electronics, unveiled that Samsung Pay, a secure and easy-to-use mobile payment service that can be used to make purchases nearly everywhere cards are accepted, will launch in Korea on August 20 and in the U.S. on September 28. Samsung plans to roll out the service in the U.K., Spain and China, as well.

Speaking at a Samsung event in New York where it unveiled its newest flagship devices – the Galaxy S6 edge+ and Galaxy Note5, JK Shin, CEO and Head of IT & Mobile Communications Division at Samsung Electronics said, “With the launches of these exciting new smartphones, we will open a new era of mobile payment. This is Samsung’s brave step forward to enhance our mobile experience. It is easy, safe, and most importantly, available virtually anywhere you can swipe a card, in most cases without new costs for merchants, from day one.”

Samsung Pay will be preloaded on select Galaxy S6 edge+ and Galaxy Note5 devices and a free software upgrade will be rolled out beginning mid-August, to enable Samsung Pay on Galaxy S6 and S6 edge devices in the U.S. and Korea. Select U.S. users of Galaxy S6, S6 edge, S6 edge+ and Note5 will be able to participate in a beta trial from August 25 ahead of the September 28 launch.

SIMPLE: To make a payment on Samsung Pay, users can simply swipe up, scan their fingerprint and pay.

SAFE: Samsung Pay uses tokenization, Samsung KNOX, and fingerprint authentication to provide secure payments and reduce the security risks inherent to plastic cards.

VIRTUALLY ANYWHERE: With Magnetic Secure Transmission (MST) and Near Field Communication (NFC) technologies, Samsung Pay works with most existing point-of-sale (POS) terminals. That means it’s the only mobile payment service that works virtually anywhere you can swipe your credit card or debit card.

“The future of mobile payments has arrived,” said InJong Rhee, EVP of Samsung Electronics, Global Head of Samsung Pay. “We are partnering with card networks, issuers and acquirers, and Samsung Pay will also be the first to support contactless payment for store-branded credit cards. The list of partners will only grow.”

Extensive Partnership Ecosystem

Samsung Pay continues to strategically expand its partnership ecosystem to provide greater flexibility, access, and choice for customers. Samsung anticipates working with payment networks such as, American Express, Discover, MasterCard and Visa, major banks including Bank of America, Chase, U.S. Bank and key financial partners including First Data, Synchrony Financial and TSYS to extend Samsung Pay to the U.S. Samsung anticipates working with all major Korean card companies including Samsung Card, Shinhan Card, KB Kookmin Card, Hyundai Card, Lotte Card, NH Nonghyup Card, BC Card, Hana Card, Woori Card and Citi Card.

“We leverage our unique technology and capabilities to provide our customers with seamless, differentiated experiences, giving them more flexibility and choice for how to pay,” said Tony Prentice, vice president of mobile payments at American Express. “As part of that strategy, we are excited to work with Samsung to offer Card Members a new, innovative way to pay in-store with an American Express Card on their Samsung devices.”

“Emerging technologies are impacting the way our nearly 18 million active mobile customers pay for everyday items, and we’re focused on delivering new solutions to help simplify their financial lives,” said Michelle Moore, head of digital banking at Bank of America. “Samsung Pay is a great example of this commitment, allowing customers to do more with their mobile devices and manage their finances when, where and how they want.”

“Samsung Pay will give our customers another convenient way to pay with their Chase cards,” said Gavin Michael, head of Digital for Chase.

“Discover’s focus on simplicity and versatility aligns with Samsung Pay’s innovative use of technology,” said Diane Offereins, Discover’s president of payment services. “Offering this new payment service continues to enhance the convenience and mobile experience we’re providing to our customers.”

“First Data is proud to collaborate with Samsung on the launch of Samsung Pay and we look forward to working together to bring a powerful solution to the marketplace,” said Barry McCarthy, Executive Vice President, Network and Security Solutions, First Data. “We have a history of driving innovation in payment technology through close collaboration with all parts of the payments ecosystem. Our work with Samsung, as well as our other partners in mobile payments, enables more powerful connections between merchants, issuers and consumers.”

“As consumers increasingly rely on their mobile devices in their everyday lives, MasterCard is pleased to partner with Samsung to bring Samsung Pay to our cardholders around the world. Using advanced tokenization technology from the MasterCard Digital Enablement Service, we’re delivering a digital payment experience that is both simple and secure, and includes all the benefits and guarantees of a MasterCard transaction,” said Cheryl Guerin, Group Executive, MasterCard.

Margaret Keane, president and CEO of Synchrony Financial (NYSE: SYF), the largest provider of private label credit cards in the U.S.[1], noted, “This is great news for our customers who will enjoy the benefits our cards offer when they choose to make easy and secure mobile payments with Samsung Pay. It is also important for many of our retail partners who can use their existing point of sale devices to deliver secure mobile payments and a seamless customer experience at more than 300,000 locations.” [1] Based on purchase volume and receivables according to issue number 1,062 of “The Nilson Report,” dated April 2015 (based on 2014 data).

“We expect the adoption of mobile payments to change the payments landscape,” said Gaylon Jowers, Jr., senior executive vice president, TSYS. “We are excited to be on the leading edge in collaboration with industry stalwarts like Samsung through technologies like Samsung Pay.”

“Being one of the first to offer our consumer and business customers Samsung Pay is a great example of our focus on Innovation at U.S. Bank and Elavon,” said Dominic Venturo, chief innovation officer at U.S. Bank. “U.S. Bank customers with qualifying credit or debit cards will be able to pay with their Samsung device using Samsung Pay; and our U.S. Bank and Elavon merchant customers will be able to accept the point of sale transactions right away. This is an important step in the continuous evolution of payments and consistent with providing our customers the ability to do business with us how, when and where they want.”

“Instantly on day one, because of MST technology, Samsung Pay will be accepted almost anywhere consumers can pay today,” said Jim McCarthy, Executive Vice President of Innovation and Strategic Partnerships at Visa. “We see this as a huge step forward for consumer choice and payment security.”

About Samsung Pay.

Samsung Pay is a simple, safe and available virtually anywhere you can swipe your card mobile payment service from Samsung Electronics. Combining NFC with Samsung’s proprietary MST technologies, Samsung Pay provides consumers a way to pay nearly anywhere you can swipe a card at millions of merchant locations worldwide.
It won’t be long until the world’s most convenient mobile payment app to date, Samsung Pay, is launched in Korea. And in preparation for the full roll out, a Samsung Pay trial with Samsung Card began on July 15, for select customers in Korea.

Users of the Galaxy S6 and S6 edge are the first to have access to Samsung Pay, which will be accepted in more stores than any other mobile payment service in Korea. It is the first and only mobile payment service that works with both near field communication NFC and card readers with magnetic secure transmission (MST) technologies, which means it is already compatible with most retail locations’ point of sale terminals.

Adding cards on Samsung Pay is easy, making purchases is even easier and users can feel secure that their card info is safe with tokenization technology. Samsung Pay delivers a faster, easier shopping experience: Payment is at your fingertips from a wallet that is already in your hand. When it is time to pay, just launch the app, hold your Samsung device near the credit card terminal and authorize it with the touch of your finger. It’s simple, safe and fast, so you can get on with your day. Samsung Pay brings us closer than ever to a world without wallets.

Setting up the App

After launching Samsung Pay for the first time, you’ll be able to watch an intro video that will show you how it all works. Log into your Samsung account and choose whether you want to use the fingerprint authentication or PIN for payments. Now you’re ready to start adding your credit or debit cards.

Registering Your Cards

Click the (+) sign and capture your card information with your phone’s camera. It is also possible to type the information manually. After you agree to the terms and conditions, complete the user authentication process, which can be done by SMS in Korea. A code will be sent to you, which you will need to input to complete the process. After that, simply register your PIN and signature for the card and it’s done.

Simple Pay

You can initiate Samsung Pay by swiping up from the bottom on the locked screen or home screen, or even when the screen is turned off. Swipe left and right to view the cards you have registered in Samsung Pay and then place your finger on the home button to scan your fingerprint. If you’ve chosen to use PIN authentication, touch the ‘insert PIN’ button and use the PIN you chose when registering the card. Your payment will be complete when you hold your phone against the card reader.

Scan fingerprint to make mobile payment

Card Management

If you want to review your payment history, simply tap the card you want to review to see a list of payments in the Samsung Pay application. From this screen you can also remove the card by touching the Delete button in the upper right hand corner. You can authenticate the removal with your fingerprint.

If you want to cancel a transaction, select the payment from the list, touch the Cancel Transaction button on your screen, authenticate with your fingerprint or PIN and hold your phone next to the card reader.

Security

Samsung Pay uses a variety of security technologies and a high level encryption system. Your card number is not stored in your device and not sent when making a transaction. Instead, it’s substituted for a unique, encrypted “token,” which your bank will be able to link to your card. On top of that, payments cannot be completed without either your fingerprint or PIN at the time of payment. The Galaxy S6 and S6 edge devices are equipped with Samsung KNOX mobile security platform which constantly monitors for malicious activities in your device. And finally, if you lose your device, using Find My Mobile allows you to lock your device remotely or wipe your data on the device after it is lost.

Samsung Electronics announced the commercial launch of two new color editions of the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge. Launched globally on April 10th, Samsung’s Galaxy S6 and S6 edge smartphones redefined what’s next in mobility. In addition to the already available colors including White Pearl, Black Sapphire and Gold Platinum options, the long-awaited Blue Topaz Galaxy S6 and Green Emerald Galaxy S6 edge are available to consumers now.

Creating a new standard for design, craftsmanship and performance, Samsung’s newest flagship Galaxy S6 and S6 edge smartphones seamlessly blend premium materials with the most advanced Samsung technology to offer consumers an unmatched mobile experience in unique colors and materials.

“The Blue Topaz Galaxy S6 represents the perfect fashion accessory for style-conscious consumers looking for a vibrant, expressive and distinctive color, and the Green Emerald Galaxy S6 edge provides a simply stunning color choice that meets the needs of those who want a sophisticated, yet unique looking mobile device,” said Younghee Lee, Executive Vice President of Global Marketing, IT & Mobile Division at Samsung Electronics. “We aim to bring a truly one-of-a-kind smartphone to consumers and provide them with a seamless combination of dynamic beauty and meaningful purpose, complementing every part of their mobile lives.”

Blue Topaz Galaxy S6

Exclusively available for the Galaxy S6, Samsung’s Blue Topaz Galaxy S6 hits the scene in a striking but subtle blue hue that is closely reflected throughout the most fashionable colors of the year. According to many of the leading color trend forecasts, blue is among the top most popular colors of 2015.

“People who opt for Samsung’s Blue Topaz Galaxy S6 are likely to be more self-confident, fastidious, discriminating, sensitive, exacting, and intuitive,” said world-renowned British Psychologist Dr. Donna Dawson. “The ‘brightness’ of the color tends to attract more people who are both self-assured and know what they like.”

Green Emerald Galaxy S6 edge

Exclusively available for the Galaxy S6 edge, Samsung’s newest Green Emerald exemplifies the harmony of Samsung’s design philosophy where “beauty meets purpose.” The color green represents new life and new beginnings and is closely linked to themes of nature.

“People who choose Green as their preferred color will tend to be balanced, loyal, hard-working, honest, benevolent and concerned for others,” Dawson said. “They may aspire to be good citizens with a highly-developed moral sense and a desire for simplicity. ‘Green’ also represents new life and new beginnings, and often inspires ‘hope’ and renewed vitality and energy in people, conveying friendliness and a connection to others. Green also has been shown to decrease the feeling of restlessness – this is why, when people are stressed, they often crave sanctuary in more natural surroundings. The Green Emerald shade of the Galaxy S6 edge deepens the general attraction of all things green through its depth and brightness.”

The Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge are available globally with 32/64/128GB storage options available in White Pearl, Black Sapphire, Gold Platinum, Blue Topaz (Galaxy S6 only) and Green Emerald (Galaxy S6 edge only).

Full details and product images are available at www.samsungmobilepress.com.

* The launch date and models may vary by region and channels.

“Combining breathtaking design with technology that provides dazzling color, stark contrasts and superb brightness, our radically new line of SUHD and UHD televisions set a new industry standard for the best picture quality available today,” said Dave Das, Senior Vice President, Samsung Electronics America. “In addition to featuring breakthrough display technology, our 2015 line is powered by our new Smart TV platform that not only brings consumers an intuitive user interface, but also makes it easy to share content between your Samsung mobile devices and 2015 Samsung televisions.”

The Next Step In Picture Quality Worthy of the Human Eye

Whether it’s LCD, LED or most recently UHD, Samsung has pushed the boundaries of TV innovation to new levels. In 2015, Samsung continues to demonstrate its heritage of innovation by introducing the world to masterpieces in display engineering with its line of premium Curved SUHD TVs. With more than five years of research and development behind its proprietary Cadmium free nano-crystal technology, Samsung’s SUHD TVs produce a crystal clear color representation that results in a magnificent display of life-like picture quality. Combined with Samsung’s Peak Illuminator, these breakthroughs in screen technology produce a wider color range, delivering more detailed color expression, enhanced contrast that enables the deepest blacks seen on an LED screen, and unmatched brightness creating an entirely new category of TV.

With improved panel efficiency, superior color accuracy, and enhanced brightness precision, SUHD TVs provide unrivaled picture quality. Along with these exceptional improvements in color and brightness, Samsung incorporates local dimming technologies to minimize black loss, improve contrast, and deliver the deepest blacks currently available without loss of detail. The first line of SUHD TVs are no exception to Samsung’s strong tradition of design. From curved to flat, Samsung’s SUHD TVs capture the design aesthetic of contemporary art and architecture that are both captivating and functional.

Samsung Smart TVs bridge the gap between mobile and the living room by acting as a complete home entertainment hub that can be controlled by Samsung select Galaxy smartphones, offering wireless access to movies, and later this year photos, and music stored on other devices. With one press of a button users can share any content from their select Samsung smartphone or tablet with their TV, while still browsing or chatting on their mobile device. This revolutionary mobile-to-TV convergence allows consumers easy and unparalleled access to an ever expanding content ecosystem.

UHD Content and Beyond

Samsung’s commitment to deliver the ultimate home entertainment experience does not stop at the product level. Samsung is working towards a more robust UHD ecosystem, including more and wider access to UHD optimized content. By participating in the newly formed UHD Alliance, Samsung joins Hollywood studios, content distributors, other consumer electronics brands, post-production and video technology companies to help define, and set a certification standard to ensure consumers will have access to the very best premium UHD content through the very best playback device.

The 2015 Line
