St. Peter’s Square, founded on an architectural layout boasting illustrious signatures and timeless pieces of art, hosts various ceremonies where the Pope meets the public. Acknowledging the requirements for the best acoustic and visual rendering in an outdoor space, Samsung took to its outdoors audio-and-video expertise. The four outdoor LED signages have been installed in strategic points of the square to convey a clear picture of commencing events as well as audio solutions to broadcast the message.

Thanks to Samsung’s LED Signage technology, spectators will be able to take part in the ceremonies at St. Peter’s Square and admire all the details. Being IP66-certified, the XHB series reproduce high-impact content even in harsh weather conditions. In addition, the extremely compact 99.4 mm-thin housing makes them perfectly integrable in an iconic space such as St. Peter’s Square.

Harman Kardon’s signature audio provides balanced panoramic sound that is distributed throughout the space, conveying crisp dialogues for an immersive and engaging experience for worshippers and visitors alike. Adaptive Sound technology clearly diffuses sound even when the volume of voices is low to divulge every element of speech, even during the most whispered dialogues.

“We at Samsung Electronics are excited to make our technological contribution and renew our engagement with Vatican City,” said Davide Corte, Head of IT Division, Samsung Electronics Italy. “The outdoor LED signages and audio solutions create an immersive audio and video experience to serve visitors as well as the communities of the Faithful. It is an honor for us to be present with the best of our technologies in such a unique and prestigious setting such as St. Peter’s Square.”

Samsung Electronics today announced that it has recently finished implementing its SMART Signage at the new Istanbul Airport, which will be the world’s largest airport once fully-completed, serving 200 million passengers annually. It will host 2,000 arriving and departing aircrafts, with flights to 350 destinations.

This project includes nearly 700 Samsung SMART LCD and LED Signage, including LED displays covering a total of 1,012 square meters. The total surface area of the LED displays is equivalent to that of 2.5 basketball courts. Thanks to the advanced technical service and logistics capabilities of Samsung, the project was successfully completed by a technical team of 28 in only 45 days with the help of B.T. Global, specialized in digital signage, security, data storage and IT services.

The new Istanbul Airport aims to be the biggest international airport in the world, covering 76.5 million square meters. The first phase of the Istanbul Airport opened on October 29, 2018, the 95th anniversary of the Turkish Republic. The airport’s main terminal building, a 1.4 million square meter space under one roof, is where Samsung led the digitalization project that took place through the installation of digital signage technology. Media Port Istanbul, the operator of the Istanbul Airport Digital Advertisement, entrusted Samsung to provide the digital signages inside the airport and highlighted the importance of integrating cutting-edge technology systems with elegant design of displays.

Samsung’s eye-catching LED signage will welcome visitors who enter Istanbul Airport with two giant 193-sqm LED screens at the international departure gate near the hotel area and the front office. Passengers will also encounter Samsung LED signage from arrival halls and baggage claim areas to check-in areas, passport control and lounges.

“We are proud to participate in one of the most significant projects in Turkey’s history and a great achievement in global aviation,” said Seog-gi Kim, Executive Vice President of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. “Samsung SMART Signage not only guarantees excellent colors and picture quality to capture visitors’ eyes, but its durable, IP5x-validated design ensures 24/7 continuous content delivery regardless of environmental factors, including dust, dirt and lighting exposure.”

“Samsung’s brand reliability as a global display business leader was one of the most important considerations when determining who would manage this important project since it had to be executed with precision in such a short period of time,” said Kadri Samsunlu, Chief Executive Officer of Istanbul Grand Airport (IGA). “We appreciate the quality of Samsung’s cutting-edge technology together with Media Port Istanbul’s market experience for our new Istanbul Airport to take one step further to grow as a major travel hub.”

As basketball fans are gearing up for the start of the 2018-2019 NBA season, the Atlanta Hawks already have something to be proud of: a newly renovated, world-class arena.

The new State Farm Arena, which underwent the second-largest renovation in NBA history, held an open-house event on October 20 that welcomed approximately 10,000 people. More than 12,000 square feet of Samsung SMART LED signage been installed throughout the arena, combining to offer 10 times more LED video than the previous configuration. The main, center-hung video board is not only the NBA’s first 360-degree, continuous video screen, it’s also the first arena bowl to feature HD-quality, 6mm LED video display technology.

“Fans will be immersed in stunning video displays no matter where they are seated in the bowl,” said Steve Koonin, CEO of the Atlanta Hawks Basketball Club & State Farm Arena. “The high-definition video will enhance the in-game experience for Hawks fans, and make every fan feel like they are sitting in the first row with amazing views and clarity.”

New Center-Hung Videoboard Brings True-to-Life Engagement

The center-hung videoboard includes a massive 4,477 square feet of high-definition video display, offering true-to-life colors and dynamic details. Whether seated courtside or in the upper deck, fans will catch every bit of the action on the floor. The center-hung structure that holds the high-resolution, 6mm pixel pitch display features two additional displays mounted in its interior. Measuring 20 feet wide by 9 feet high, these displays offer an additional 360 square feet of active video viewing area.

More than 20 LED displays have been installed throughout the arena, for a total of 12,047 square feet of LED video. With more than 30.42 million individual LED pixels, these displays deliver crisp, clear content throughout the arena. Incorporating these displays ensures that this iconic venue is well positioned to keep up with the rapidly evolving sports entertainment industry.

“We are pleased that NBA fans can enjoy a vibrant viewing environment via our Smart LED signage technology,” said Seog-gi Kim, Executive Vice President of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics.

The Hawks joined forces with Samsung to up the ante when it comes to the fan experience. Throughout the design process, Hawks officials worked closely with Samsung, and came to the decision to have four corner boards and a center-hung board.

“Screens are more important than they have ever been,” said Koonin. “We live with screens. Just a few short years ago, we weren’t a screen culture.”

Samsung’s Commitment to Streamlining the Digital Signage Experience

As the number one leader in the global signage market for nine consecutive years, Samsung is widely recognized as an innovator in LED signage—mastering the art of digital displays from design and engineering to manufacturing. Since its acquisition of Prismview in March 2015, Samsung has been providing its customers with truly groundbreaking LED signage solutions, customized to suit the needs of any venue.

Not only that, Samsung LED signage is being installed in stadiums all over the world to communicate with spectators and promote brands. From Asia to North America, consumers are coming to expect a first-class viewing experience at live events that enhances their enjoyment.

In particular, the Samsung LED signage at the National Stadium in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia offers spectators at sporting events and pop concerts an enhanced fan experience. In Incheon, South Korea, baseball fans are tracking fly balls from SK Happy Dream Park (Munhak Baseball Stadium)’s electronic digital display—one of the worlds’ largest LED video displays. And at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore, Maryland, Ravens fans can watch the action on two massive endzone displays (measuring 201 feet wide by 36 feet high), as well as displays mounted on the upper and lower fascia, and four large video boards in each of corner of the upper deck.

Samsung continues to break barriers through technological advancements, as well as make room to evolve to provide consumers with truly immersive viewing experiences.

Plaza Norte, one of the iconic shopping malls in Lima, the capital of Peru, is now home to South America’s largest digital out-of-home (DOOH) LED signage created by Samsung Electronics. The two hundred thousand square meter shopping mall houses major shops and brands. Now the shoppers and visitors can also gather at the square in front of the mall to indulge in watching a major sports game or an exciting cultural event on the mega-sized screen.

The signage at Lima’s Plaza Norte is the latest example of Samsung’s recent LED signage endeavors, following the installation of South Korea’s largest curved SMART LED signage outside of COEX convention center in one of the most bustling areas of Seoul.

Samsung, the No.1 Leader in Global Signage Market

Samsung has held the number one market share of 24.9%1 in the global signage market for nine consecutive years and will likely continue its position as a world leader for the tenth year according to 2018 1Q data released by IHS Markit. The company has continuously developed innovative signage products such as ultra-large-sized LED Signage and The Wall Professional. Back in 2009, Samsung opened up the video wall signage market by introducing the thinnest 7.3mm bezel video wall ever; and in 2015, the company acquired the North American LED commercial display company YESCO Electronics to strengthen its B2B display business.2

Breaking Records of Largest LED Signages

This year, Samsung Electronics is leading the market by focusing on large-sized LED signages, as showcased by record-breaking sizes of LED signages in Korea and Peru. Aside from the newest addition in Lima, Peru, Samsung also installed the longest ribbon-type advanced LED signage in New Zealand’s national stadium Eden Park as part of its official partnership with the Stadium. The curved LED signage outside of AFAS Circustheater, one of the most prominent theaters in the Netherlands, is another case where Samsung installed a large-sized LED signage custom-designed to meet unique needs.

To build the largest DOOH LED signage in South America, Samsung’s Enterprise Business Team collaborated with Plaza Norte’s marketing team for many months to launch the LED screen located on the outside of the Plaza Norte building. Building upon the previous experiences in the field, Samsung’s engineers decided that the ideal LED screen product for the mall would be the XA160F outdoor, which consists of 528 cabinets and has an area of 487 square meters.

The Samsung XA160F SMART LED Signage outdoor display features a 16.0mm pixel pitch for enhanced resolution. The screen also comes with IP65 standards that ensure the screen holds up under all types of weather conditions, and the panels have an anti-UV treatment that prevents deformation and discoloration due to sun exposure. In terms of performance, its design and brightness level deter the interference of light, maintaining levels of 7,700 nits at all times.

As it’s the largest DOOH LED signage in South America, the 487 square-meter screen marks a milestone for Samsung. The company will now strive for even higher goals in product innovation and project development regarding its professional display business.

Samsung’s CES 2018 booth, also known as “Samsung City”, showcases next-generation technologies that will transform users’ lives in the office and at home. One of the booth’s most eye-catching displays of innovation was made possible by Samsung’s new IF Series LED signage. Standing 32 meters wide and 7.8 meters high, and composed of a total of 4,926 (480 x 540 x 65mm) modules, the booth’s can’t-miss façade displays snapshots of an immersive, connected future that encapsulate Samsung’s life-simplifying “Intelligence of Things” vision.

As the industry’s first HDR-powered LED displays, Samsung’s three IF Series models – the P1.5, P2.0 and P2.5 – mirror the exciting innovation of the IoT and AI technologies that are prominently featured throughout the booth. HDR support brings impeccable presentation quality to each IF Series display, while a slim, lightweight design and convenient full front and rear access make installation and maintenance a breeze. The signage also offers visitors a first-hand demonstration of how Samsung’s integrated content management platform, MagicInfo, may be used to create a scintillating, easy-to-manage façade.

There’s a new league gaining traction in sports venues around the world. But rather than governing the rules of the sport, this particular league is changing the game in terms of the in-stadium experience, capturing the attention of spectators all over. Not to mention, the competition among its teams is undeniably fierce. Who, you ask, is this new player in the sports world? The answer can only be LED signage.

Stadium LED signage offers improved visibility, enhanced connectivity and unlimited possibilities for fan engagement. And, while the competition in the LED signage market is just as tough as it is among rival sports teams, Samsung Electronics is quickly becoming an industry leader through its LED signage installed in some of the world’s major sports arenas.

Stadium LED Signage Off to a Running Start

Across the US, Samsung’s LED signage can be found in major NFL, NBA and college stadiums, as well as MLB stadiums. Displays at the AT&T Center, home of the San Antonio Spurs, and the Baltimore Ravens’ home turf, the M&T Bank Stadium, elevate the spectator experience by providing new, more immersive views of the action.

Likewise, in New Zealand, Samsung Electronics recently completed the installation of a ribbon-type LED display at the Eden Park Stadium, the country’s largest and most iconic sports arena. Offering over 100 LED screens throughout the concourse, in the stands and in corporate areas to further enhance the spectator experience.

The Eden Park Stadium in New Zealand

Across the world in the Malaysian capital of Kuala Lumpur, plans are set for 17 large-sized LED electronic signboards to be installed at National Stadium, Hockey Stadium, Aquatic Center, and AXIATA Arena that will host the 2017 Southeast Asian Games. The state-of-art LED signage, which will allow the popular event to be displayed more vividly and accurately, will be installed in August.

In Incheon, South Korea, meanwhile, the SK Wyverns Munhak Baseball Stadium boasts the world’s largest LED baseball scoreboard at that time – a 64-meter-wide, 18-meter-tall Samsung screen that not only displays the score, lineup and player stats, but also messages and videos from fans.

As the competition heats up, it’s safe to say that Samsung is advancing as a clear leader.

An Entirely New In-Stadium Experience

The San Antonio Spurs at AT&T Center, San Antonio, TEXAS

Because sports stadiums are full of blind spots, even the most quick-eyed fan can easily miss important moments in the game. But with the outstanding image quality and differentiated solutions of Samsung’s LED signage, spectators can enjoy every dynamic detail of the action no matter where they’re seated.

Samsung’s Smart LED Signage displays promise crisp images with uniform color brightness, accurate color calibration, equal and balanced screen color, and a high refresh rate of 24,000 Hz, which is achieved through direct driving. While replays displayed on TVs or personal cameras – which generally have a refresh rate of 10,000 Hz or lower – tend to flicker, Samsung’s LED signage ensures that spectators can enjoy flicker-free images of the field or court, even during ultra slow-motion replays.

Furthermore, Samsung’s signage solutions offer a number of possibilities to enhance fan engagement. For instance, spectators might participate in games displayed on the signboards via their smartphones or interactive voice response (IVR). Together, these features are pushing LED signage into the spotlight, allowing them to play a more central role in the venue experience.

As the industry leader in signage in 2016, Samsung’s vertical signage has been used widely in hospitals, airports, schools and offices. Now, as sporting arenas begin to incorporate the technology, Samsung Electronics hopes to further enrich game day for sports fans all over the globe.

Thanks to a partnership with Samsung Electronics, visitors to the Sydney Opera House may now enjoy access to unique artistic and cultural content illuminating the legendary venue’s storied tradition and delivered through eye-catching LED signage.

Samsung expanded its presence at the landmark this year with the opening of The Lounge enabled by Samsung, a new meeting place located in the heart of the Opera House that features stylish, comfortable seating, as well as interactive displays and exclusive digital content. The centerpiece of the new lounge is Samsung’s IL020F fine pixel pitch LED signage, which forms a large-format (4m x 2m) display that is designed to draw visitors’ attention to a specially commissioned digital artwork.

A ‘Landmark’ Visual Experience

The Lounge marks Samsung’s first Smart LED display panel deployment in Australia, and is one of a number of technologies being trialed as part of the Sydney Opera House’s $202 million renewal plans. Backed by the government of New South Wales, the renewal program will transform the cultural icon for the next generation of artists, audiences and visitors. A multi-venue performing arts center adjacent to Sydney Harbour, the Sydney Opera House is among the most recognizable landmarks in the city, hosting more than 2,000 performances and welcoming 1.2 million visitors on site each year.

Samsung Australia, the Opera House’s first and only principal technology partner, collaborated with the venue to design The Lounge in a way that would enhance the visitor experience while preserving the integrity of its structure and brand.

“[The Lounge] is an early milestone in renewing the experience for our visitors, and highlights the importance of collaboration in transforming the Opera House experience,” said Sydney Opera House CEO Louise Wilson. “With Samsung’s support, we have a wonderful opportunity to trial the latest technology while creating a more welcoming environment for visitors.”

Samsung’s IL020F LED signage presents a deeper exploration into the landmark’s story through an original digital artwork that draws on the history, inspiration and design of the Opera House as well as the performances held within it. Content includes a vast library of past performances, photos and interviews all brought to life by the high-resolution displays, which leverage the same technologies employed in Samsung’s televisions and LCD screens to deliver vibrant and consistent visuals.

Signs of Collaborations to Come

In addition to The Lounge, Samsung and the Sydney Opera House have agreed to collaborate over the next five years on further initiatives to improve the landmark and provide visitors with the best possible experience.

“The Lounge enabled by Samsung is an incredibly exciting way for Australians and tourists from all over the world to experience what the Sydney Opera House has to offer,” said Phillip Newton, Corporate Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer of Samsung Australia. “We are proud to work in partnership with the Sydney Opera House to enrich the experience of millions of visitors through our most advanced and immersive technology.”

Beyond IL020F LED signage, Samsung’s presence in The Lounge includes a virtual-reality station that transports users to the top of the Opera House’s famous exterior sails, as well as a ‘Cultural Institute’ station, where Samsung’s Galaxy View and Galaxy Tab S2 tablets allow visitors to cycle through more than 50 online exhibits highlighting the landmark’s past, present and future.

The Lounge at the Sydney Opera House is a landmark example of how cutting-edge digital signage can enhance storytelling capabilities that ultimately foster unique and memorable experiences. By implementing first-class display technology in one of the world’s most famous buildings and busiest performing arts centers, Samsung continues to define entertainment and hospitality environments of the future.
