To maximize and bring the power of AI into Radio Access Networks (RAN), Samsung has made significant technological progress leveraging its in-house AI and radio expertise since the beginning of 2024. One of the pivotal milestones achieved was the interoperability between Samsung’s O-RAN compliant virtualized RAN (vRAN) and NVIDIA’s accelerated computing, which took place in Samsung Research’s lab in late last year. Samsung has successfully demonstrated a proof-of-concept to verify how NVIDIA’s accelerated computing can be seamlessly integrated into software-based networks to help enhance AI capabilities.

This achievement further solidifies Samsung’s strides in moving ahead with its unique innovation of combining AI and RAN. With the baseline, Samsung can seamlessly deliver AI-RAN by integrating its vRAN (virtualized Distributed Unit, vDU) with NVIDIA’s accelerated computing into a commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) server where Samsung’s vRAN software is installed.

In addition, the companies will continue to explore the best-of-breed combinations of AI-RAN options leveraging Samsung vRAN with NVIDIA’s Grace CPU and/or GPU based AI platform using Compute Unified Device Architecture (CUDA) technologies. All of these are optimal for each network deployment environment — from rural, sub-urban to dense urban.

At MWC 2025, Samsung presented its leadership in AI-For-RAN innovations, as exemplified through two AI-RAN demonstrations, endorsed by the AI-RAN Alliance and developed in collaboration with various members including NVIDIA. The demonstrations included AI-based physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH) estimation and non-uniform modulation, showing a glimpse in innovative ways to infuse AI into mobile networks.

The Galaxy A56 5G and A36 5G take the signature design of the Galaxy A series to the next level, blending modern sophistication with a sleek aesthetic. The first thing that catches the eye is their slim, flat frame.

The Galaxy A56 5G features a polished metal frame, available in a range of stylish colors. The A56 5G’s colorways stand out with their milky matte finish, while the A36 5G’s color options captivate with their holographic effects.

A Slimmer and Lighter Body

Both the Galaxy A56 5G and A36 5G feature a 6.7-inch screen, 0.1 inch larger than that of their predecessors. The FHD+ Super AMOLED display delivers a peak brightness of 1,200 nits — 200 nits brighter than before — ensuring an even more immersive and vivid viewing experience.

Trimmed down by 0.8mm compared to their predecessors, both models also sport a slimmer profile at just 7.4mm thick, offering a firm yet comfortable grip when held. The flat key island design on the sides complement the streamlined aesthetic, adding to the devices’ refined look.

Thanks to their slimmer design, both devices are also lighter than the previous models, despite having larger displays. The Galaxy A56 5G weighs 198g — 15g lighter than its predecessor, while the Galaxy A36 5G shed 14g to come in at 195g.

Circle to Search makes finding information effortless. All users need to do is long press the home button , then draw a circle around anything interesting they see on their screen and watch in awe as Google provides relevant search results in an instant.

And it’s not just for images! Circle to Search now recognizes music as well — for example, the background music playing in a video. When watching something on YouTube, simply long press the home button. Then tap the music button to instantly find the name of the song featured in the video and the artist who sings it. That same song can be identified even when sung or hummed by a person, instead of being played from the video’s original audio.

3. Picture-Perfect — Smarter Camera Features and Photo-Editing Tools

Nightography and Object Eraser — Flawless Selfies Even at Night

Imagine taking in the atmosphere during a nighttime walk and snapping a selfie, only to be disappointed by the noise in the final image. Or perhaps a scenario where a countless number of selfies had to be taken before realizing none of them quite achieved the right look. With the enhanced Nightography feature on the Galaxy A56 5G, those frustrations are a thing of the past. Clear, vibrant selfies can be captured even at night with a 12MP front camera optimized to reduce noise and deliver smoother results.

Unwanted objects in the background can take away from the perfect selfie as well. Simply trace around those objects to remove them, and Object Eraser will seamlessly fill in the space where they originally were to blend naturally with the background, resulting in a clean, crisp photo.

Group selfies don’t always go as planned — someone could be blinking or have an awkward expression on their face. But with the Best Face feature, those slip-ups are an easy fix. Best Face analyzes the multiple frames of pictures taken using Motion Photo to recommend the best ones. All that is left for Galaxy A56 5G users to do afterwards is simply browse through the suggested frames and select a flawless group selfie where everyone looks their best.

4. Powerful and Secure — Enhanced Privacy Safeguards

The Galaxy A56 5G and A36 5G are the first in the Galaxy A series to feature One UI 7, offering more robust security than ever before. One key highlight is the hardware-backed Knox Vault, which combines a secure processor with secure memory to isolate users’ most sensitive data — like personal identification numbers (PINs) and passwords — from the rest of their device and ensure that no one else can physically or remotely access them. The new smartphones also come equipped with a range of extensive security innovations, including an enhanced Auto Blocker — Galaxy’s opt-in package of security measures that prevents unauthorized app installations and other security threats — and the new Theft Protection feature, which ensures personal data is protected even when devices are lost or stolen.

S25 Camera Briefing: Pushing the Boundaries of Mobile Photography to the Next Level

As MWC 2025 kicked off, Samsung hosted the S25 Camera Briefing on March 3. The session showcased the powerful camera capabilities and AI-powered editing features of the Galaxy S25 series that enable users to capture perfect photos anytime, anywhere.

“The Galaxy S25 series will redefine the paradigm of mobile photography,” said Joshua Cho, Executive Vice President and Head of Visual Solution Team, Mobile eXperience (MX) Business at Samsung Electronics. “By integrating AI-powered image processing technology with the latest camera advancements, anyone can effortlessly create high-quality visual content.”

The Galaxy S25 Ultra features a 50MP ultra-wide camera sensor and AI remosaic technology, allowing users to capture high-resolution photos from any distance. AI-based multi-frame processing (MFP) automatically optimizes image quality based on the shooting environment and distance while precisely distinguishing between moving and static subjects — delivering a more dynamic and detailed photography experience. Additionally, AI filters and generative editing tools make it easy to create high-quality, visually striking content.

Galaxy AI Tech Forum: The Future of Human-Centric AI

On March 4, panelists explored the future of mobile AI during a Galaxy AI Tech Forum session titled “Human-Centric AI for a True AI Companion: Overcoming Barriers and What’s Next.”

Patrick Chomet, Executive Vice President at Samsung Electronics; Christopher Patrick, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Mobile Handsets at Qualcomm; Dr. Chris Brauer, Director of Innovation in the Institute of Management Studies at Goldsmiths, University of London, and Chief Innovation Officer at Symmetry; and moderator Ben Wood, Chief Analyst and Chief Marketing Officer at CCS Insight, discussed human-centric AI, the role of mobile technology in shaping consumers’ daily lives and key barriers to AI adoption.

“Millions of users are already experiencing Galaxy AI on their devices,” said Wood, opening the conversation on consumer sentiment toward AI evolution and the industry’s efforts to deliver meaningful experiences. “The launch of the Galaxy S25 series introduced even more ways to integrate AI into daily life.”

The Galaxy S25 series harnesses multimodal AI-based agent experiences to elevate personalization to new heights. However, there is still work to be done to understand what consumers need from AI to make it a truly meaningful part of their everyday lives.

“While AI technology becomes faster, more powerful and more capable, we’re evolving too — as people and as consumers,” said Chomet. “Neither exists in a vacuum, and our role is to ensure that Galaxy AI evolves alongside our users to empower them without overwhelming or leaving them behind.”

The panelists shared personal anecdotes about how Galaxy AI and the Galaxy S25 series are redefining everyday life before shifting focus to the barriers to AI adoption. “Despite the rise in AI adoption, we identified three key global barriers — lack of confidence in using AI, privacy concerns and doubts about its practical benefits,” explained Dr. Brauer, citing findings from a global study conducted in partnership with Samsung and Symmetry.

While barriers to AI adoption undeniably exist, there are also clear drivers motivating those who use or are willing to use AI. Nearly half of users cite productivity as a key factor, recognizing AI’s potential to streamline tasks and boost efficiency. Additionally, 40% are drawn to AI for creative pursuits, while about a quarter of users believe it will foster new social connections. Building trust and confidence in these benefits will be essential to helping users view AI as a tool for empowerment.

“AI experiences developed in collaboration with Samsung allow for more powerful, seamless interactions,” said Patrick, emphasizing Qualcomm’s close collaboration with Samsung. “This is how we continue to introduce AI in a way that feels accessible to consumers who may be more hesitant.”

“From my perspective, on-device AI and powerful performance — driven by partnership between Samsung and Qualcomm — are central to truly optimized AI,” he continued. “Data privacy remains a top priority in our ongoing collaboration with Samsung, and we’ve made significant advancements in enabling advanced AI processing entirely on the device.”

“Human-centric AI is the cornerstone of Galaxy AI. In the Health Solution zone, attendees learned how Samsung Health helps users manage their daily health with ease. A standout feature was Now Brief on the Galaxy S25, delivering a personalized Energy Score along with insights into the user’s previous night’s sleep and current condition. Through the Sleep details page in Samsung Health, users can review a comprehensive analysis of their sleep including duration, sleep stages and blood oxygen levels. Additionally, the Sleep environment report evaluates factors such as room brightness, temperature and humidity to help users optimize their sleep quality.

“Galaxy AI is really changing the way we manage our health,” said one visitor after experiencing Samsung’s personalized health management approach that analyzes each individual’s health and interests to provide tailored guidance.

Home Solution: Creating a Smarter, More Secure Home

In the Home Solution zone, attendees explored an enhanced smart home experience powered by SmartThings and Knox Matrix. With 3D Map View on the Galaxy Tab S10, users could visualize and manage connected smart home devices through an interactive floor plan of their home. Other SmartThings AI features on display included automated routines tailored to user preferences, fall detection alerts for elderly family members and detailed energy consumption reports to promote more efficient usage.

To ensure a secure smart home experience, Knox Matrix safeguards the entire ecosystem. Attendees observed how connected devices leverage Knox Matrix to autonomously detect threats, implement protective measures and notify users.

Galaxy Foundation: A Commitment to Security and Sustainability

At the Galaxy Foundation zone, Samsung showcased its advancements in security and sustainability for Galaxy devices. Notably, Galaxy users are able to control how their data is handled — choosing between on-device processing or via the cloud as well as enabling or disabling personalized features. Additionally, the Galaxy S25’s on-device AI analyzes personal data through the Personal Data Engine while ensuring robust security with Knox Vault.

Samsung highlighted its commitment to sustainability initiatives focused on reducing carbon emissions. Through innovative recycling technology, the batteries in the Galaxy S25 series repurpose cobalt extracted from discarded Galaxy devices. Attendees were impressed by the use of recycled fishing nets to create smartphone components and Ocean Mode, a camera setting developed for capturing footage of coral reefs underwater to support marine conservation efforts.

In a separate, invitation-only exhibit, Samsung introduced its AI-optimized and software-centric network innovations — demonstrating the future of mobile communications.

Global telecommunication operators and B2B clients were drawn to the Samsung CognitiV Network Operations Suite (NOS), a set of diverse AI-powered network automation applications providing lifecycle management of the network from planning, deployment, operation to optimization. Another key focus was AI Energy Saving Manager, an AI-powered solution that analyzes traffic patterns to maintain network quality while reducing energy consumption by up to 35%.

Other key highlights included Samsung’s collaboration with Hyundai Motor Company to introduce the industry’s first 5G Reduced Capability (RedCap) technology for use in mass-production vehicle manufacturing. Visitors saw firsthand how Galaxy AI simplifies everyday tasks by seamlessly moving across multiple apps. For example, they experienced how, with a simple voice command after pressing and holding the side button, AI could find this year’s schedule of El Clasico matches and add it to Samsung Calendar in one smooth motion.

Visitors also engaged with Gemini Live, a conversational AI assistant that facilitates brainstorming, learning and rehearsing through natural, real-time interactions. Supporting images, PDF files and more, the feature provides a multimodal AI experience designed to enhance user productivity and creativity.

Another standout feature at the booth was Now Brief, which learns the routines of users and provides them with personalized snapshots of information throughout the day on the lock screen via the Now Bar. Attendees experienced how Now Brief helps users kickstart their morning with their schedules and sleep data, then later unwind in the evening with a summary of daily activity insights.
