Samsung Electronics completed a massive state-of-the-art five-screen LED display installation at the iconic One Times Square building in New York City on May 31, 2019. The new high-end displays from Samsung measure more than 11,639 square feet (1,081 square meters) when combined.

Samsung’s new displays at One Times Square take up the entire front facing panel and reflect some of the most valuable advertising displays in the world. The displays feature premium center-stage exposure with full motion video, live-streaming and interactive capabilities.

“We are excited to showcase our LED displays at one of the world’s most renowned destinations, said Seog-gi Kim, Executive Vice President of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. “New York’s Times Square is not only a high-traffic location, it is a symbolic center of culture and commerce, making it the ideal place to showcase our leading technology on such a colossal scale.”

Jamestown, a real estate investment and management company, owns and manages the property One Times Square, the 25-story building located in the heart of Times Square in New York City. Home to the New Year’s Eve ball drop, the globally recognized building has been central to New Year’s Eve traditions celebrated around the world.

“One Times Square serves as an advertising platform for the world’s most iconic brands,” said Michael Phillips, President of Jamestown. “Samsung delivers a best-in-class visual experience that will showcase these brands in the highest quality.”

PRISMVIEW, a subsidiary of Samsung Electronics America, was responsible for the design, supply, manufacturing and installation of the project. Last year, Samsung also completed installation of outdoor LED signage at Two Times Square, located opposite from this recently completed project.

Samsung’s SMART LED Signage XPS Series features a reinforced design to deliver uninterrupted color-uniform content in any setting. The XPS 160 and XPS 080 models used at One Times Square feature advanced color calibration, an energy-saving design and the industry’s highest-quality, tier-one LED diodes.

A time lapse video highlighting the three-month transformation process was created to capture the accomplishment, showcasing the visual impact of the displays from day to night and their durability that can withstand extreme weather conditions.

Lucky foodies in New York City enjoyed a uniquely immersive dining experience on Wednesday, as Samsung Electronics brought renowned chef Daniel Boulud to the Samsung 837 venue for a fun and engaging cooking demonstration—in virtual and actual reality.

After an introduction by popular emcee Billy Harris, guests experienced an engrossing presentation by Boulud about all the elements of a culinary journey, from inspiration to preparing the food in his kitchen to the table, using the Samsung Gear VR headsets.

People experienced Daniel Boulud’s culinary journey, using the immersive Gear VR.

Boulud—who is one of the culinary visionaries in Samsung’s Club des Chefs—presented a rich food story, made even more riveting and enveloping because of the Gear VR headsets.

Samsung started Club des Chefs in 2013, bringing together renowned chefs from around the world to better understand what is needed for great cooking and to create the Chef Collection line of leading kitchen appliances.

Following the VR video, Boulud appeared before the audience in person, to lead a demonstration on how to prepare Boulud’s special interpretation of the classic croque-monsieur, with black truffle—all the while using the Samsung Chef Collection range of appliances.

Of course, nothing is as immersive as the actual eating, and guests all got to enjoy a delicious sampling of foie gras and chicken mosaic, long island fluke, lobster “en Gelée” and white asparagus—and, of course, croque-monsieur.

When Samsung developed the Gear S2, the company immediately knew Uber would be a perfect fit for the revolutionary smartwatch. With a circular interface, 3G connectivity (available on certain models) and straightforward navigation, the device was designed to simplify day-to-day tasks like getting around, whether commuting to work or traveling around New York. Utilizing Uber’s application programming interface, the Gear S2 now makes it easier to do all these things, even in those instances when your phone is out of reach.

An Easier Way to Travel

New York City is a sight to behold during the holidays. Snow blankets the busy streets of Manhattan, crowds gawk at the spectacular window displays along Fifth Avenue and skaters glide across the ice under the glowing lights of the Rockefeller Christmas tree. Traversing this urban jungle, however, isn’t always as appealing. Public transportation can be confusing, and competing with throngs of tourists to hail a cab is chaotic to say the least. Which is why Uber, an application that seamlessly connects riders to drivers, has become favorited among business travelers and tourists alike.

Though traditionally used on smartphones, the app has recently been updated to re-create the Uber experience on the Gear S2, making traveling even more convenient. Within the app, all the core Uber features are supported, including product selection, ride status updates and the ability to drag and drop pin locations. As such, through this new Uber experience, users can save time and stay moving.

Taking a Spin Around New York with the Gear S2

So, if you’ve just wrapped up dinner in SoHo and want to take in a spectacular night view of the city at the Empire State Building, simply turn the rotating bezel of the Gear S2 to access the Uber application. You can effortlessly set your pickup point from the app’s intuitive user interface. Next, request your preferred level of service, ranging from the basic UberX to UberBLACK, the company’s pricier luxury service.

Once you confirm the driver, the app will pull up a map with which you can quickly determine the vehicle’s estimated time of arrival. Review the driver and car information with a simple twist of the bezel, or cancel your request if necessary. After arriving at your destination, check the driver’s rate and total fare of your ride right from your wrist. Before you know it, you’re 102 floors above The City That Never Sleeps, relaxed from a convenient and hassle-free journey.

Being able to request an Uber vehicle, receive trip updates and complete your ride without ever having to ever touch your phone also means you can use your hands for more important things, like snapping photos of Times Square or chowing down on the city’s famous pizza. Likewise, its convenience and speed ensure that you get to see as much of your travel destination as possible.

With an updated design and hardware, Samsung and Uber have brought a popular experience to the Gear S2, making travel easier and bringing people and their cities even closer.

* The services listed above may not be available in all regions and features may vary by region, and service provider may change the name and/or value of its application at any time. Restrictions may also apply.
