Held from August 20-25 in Cologne, Germany, Gamescom 2024 spanned an impressive 230,000 square meters. Over 1,400 companies from showcased their latest games and technology to more than 335,000 fans from around 120 countries at the annual gaming conference. Offering something for everyone, Samsung’s booth became a must-visit attraction at Gamescom 2024.

A Magical Glasses-Free 3D Gaming Experience

The booth centered around Samsung’s newest Odyssey 3D monitor — a glasses-free display delivering a 3D experience unlike anything currently available on the market.

While preparing for Gamescom 2024, Samsung determined that the optimal distance to experience 3D gaming on the Odyssey 3D was about 60 cm (approximately 2 feet). Monitors at the booth were positioned from this distance, allowing fans to experience Eye Tracking and View Mapping technology that projects 3D graphics with astounding picture quality.

With these advancements, Samsung continues to build on its legacy of excellence and innovation by reshaping the gaming landscape and transforming how people interact with their favorite titles. The technology left a lasting impression on Gamescom 2024 attendees. “The 3D graphics made it look like I could reach out and touch the world in the game,” said one visitor. “Everything felt so much more real.”

The next generation of photo-realistic games is becoming even more lifelike with Samsung’s 3D technology. Thanks to a special partnership between KRAFTON and Samsung, fans could play KRAFTON’s life simulation game inZOI in stunning 3D at Samsung’s booth —the title is scheduled for release later this year.

“Gamescom is where passionate gamers come together,” said Donghwa Lim, Enterprise R&D Lab, Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics, who oversees the Odyssey 3D’s hardware development. “We had a great opportunity to see how the 3D monitor we developed can captivate people’s attention and exceed their gaming expectations.”

“I was pleased to see people enjoying games on the 3D monitor at Gamescom,” added Sukho Song from Product Innovation Lab, Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics, who specializes in 2D-to-3D transition technology. “We worked hard to develop a gaming monitor optimized for 3D to create new viewing environments and dimensions for gaming fans.”

Visitors to Gamescom 2024 had the chance to experience the powerful performance of the Odyssey OLED G6, Odyssey OLED G8 and Odyssey OLED G9 monitors. These displays gave new life to fan-favorite games including Genshin Impact and showcased upcoming releases such as the World of Warcraft expansion, World of Warcraft: The War Within.

Ahead of the eagerly awaited release of the World of Warcraft: The War Within, fans got an exclusive preview of the new content on the 49” Odyssey OLED G9 which further heightened anticipation for the game. The monitor’s dual QHD resolution 32:9 ultra-wide screen ratio brought Azeroth’s visual splendor to life, while the 240Hz refresh rate and 0.03ms response time allowed gameplay decisions to materialize almost instantaneously.

Gaming on Gaming Hub on Samsung AI TVs

For gamers who enjoy playing on Samsung Gaming Hub or via consoles, Samsung showcased the best gaming TVs on the market at its booth. Visitors went head-to-head in today’s hottest sports games on the  75” Neo QLED 8K and 98” Neo QLED TVs. Motion Xcelerator and AI-optimized picture quality added to the excitement of the matches.

In addition, fans had an up-close look at the 77” OLED TV with a diverse selection of games to play. The TV’s bold contrast, vibrant colors and Game Motion Plus feature created optimal gaming visuals, whereas the 120Hz refresh rate ensured smooth and responsive gameplay.

Samsung Electronics today announced the unveiling of its latest gaming monitors with a particular focus on the groundbreaking Odyssey 3D, which offers glasses-free 3D viewing, at Gamescom 2024 in Cologne, Germany.

Gamescom 2024, held from August 21 to 25, is the world’s largest gaming exhibition and features more than 1,400 exhibitors, including hardware, software and game content producers. Samsung will showcase its high-end gaming monitors — including the new Odyssey 3D and models from the Odyssey G6, G8 and G9 series — at its booth, which spans 800m² and is the company’s largest and most immersive booth to date.

Glasses-Free 3D Gaming With Odyssey 3D

The Odyssey 3D’s innovative light field display (LFD) technology creates lifelike 3D images from 2D content by using a lenticular lens¹ on the front panel. Combined with Eye Tracking and View Mapping technology, Odyssey 3D ensures an optimized 3D experience without the need for separate 3D glasses. Eye Tracking monitors the movement of both eyes using a built-in stereo camera, while View Mapping continuously adjusts the image to enhance depth perception.

The Odyssey 3D can seamlessly switch between 2D and 3D modes based on the user’s preference. Offered in 27” and 37” sizes, it features a 4K resolution display, a rapid 1ms gray-to-gray (GTG) response time and a high refresh rate of 165Hz, ensuring smooth and uninterrupted gameplay without any afterimages or interruptions.

Additionally, the Odyssey 3D comes with an ergonomic design featuring a Height Adjustment Stand (HAS), tilt capabilities, FreeSync Premium, one DisplayPort 1.4 and two HDMI 2.1 ports. The monitor was honored with the Best of Innovation award in the Gaming & eSports category at CES 2024.

Expanding the 2024 Odyssey OLED Lineup

Samsung has announced the expansion of its highly acclaimed Odyssey OLED lineup, which features the introduction of three new models: the Odyssey OLED G95SD, G93SD and G85SD.²

• The Odyssey OLED G9 series, including the G95SD and G93SD models, delivers an immersive experience with dual QHD (5,120 x 1,440) resolution, a 32:9 ultra-wide screen ratio, 1,800R curved design, Smart Hub,³ Gaming Hub,⁴ a 240Hz refresh rate and a 0.03ms gray-to-gray (GTG) response time.
• The 34” Odyssey OLED G8 (G85SD model) offers ultra-wide QHD (3,440 x 1,440) resolution, a 21:9 screen ratio, 1,800R curved design, Smart Hub, Gaming Hub, a 175Hz refresh rate and a 0.03ms GTG response time.

Building on the success of the Odyssey OLED G6 and G8 introduced in June, Samsung now offers OLED monitors ranging from 27” to 49” — including the new widescreen models — further diversifying its comprehensive OLED portfolio and providing a wider range of options for gamers.

The new Odyssey OLED models incorporate Samsung’s proprietary OLED Safeguard to prevent burn-ins and OLED Glare Free technology to minimize light reflection, ensuring a superior viewing experience. Samsung Electronics, a global leader in the display industry, has secured the top position in global sales of OLED monitors just one year after launching its first OLED model — the 34″ Odyssey OLED G8 (G85SB model), a gaming monitor.

According to the International Data Corporation (IDC), Samsung Electronics has taken the top position in the global OLED monitor market by capturing 34.7% of market share based on total revenue and the top position in market share based on sales volume with 28.3% of OLED monitors sold in 2023.¹

Samsung Electronics today announced new Odyssey OLED gaming monitors debuting at CES® 2024, the world’s biggest tech event owned and produced by the Consumer Technology Association® (CTA), in Las Vegas next week.

The new OLED models deliver on the performance and visual clarity gamers look for in their monitors and include the Odyssey OLED G9 (G95SD model), Odyssey OLED G8 (G80SD model) and the Odyssey OLED G6 (G60SD model).

The Odyssey OLED G9 is a 49” curved ultra-wide gaming monitor with DQHD (5,120 x 1,440) resolution, a 32:9 aspect ratio and other upgraded features. The Odyssey OLED G8 is the first flat 32” Samsung OLED gaming monitor with 4K UHD (3,840 x 2,160) resolution and a 16:9 aspect ratio. Both monitors have a 240Hz refresh rate and 0.03ms GTG response time.¹ The Odyssey OLED G6 is a 27” QHD (2,560 x 1,440) monitor which supports a 16:9 aspect ratio, 360Hz refresh rate and 0.03ms GTG response time.

Technologies Enabling Delicate Nuance

All three new models feature OLED Glare-Free technology that minimizes light reflections, enabling an enhanced viewing experience without extra equipment, so users can play games with consistent brightness and color in nearly any lighting environment.

With VESA DisplayHDR True Black 400, the monitors deliver incredible details and vivid colors independent of the game or content being displayed. What’s more, they support AMD FreeSync Premium Pro for ultra-smooth, low-latency HDR gaming.

The three new monitors bring comprehensive physical connectivity, with two HDMI 2.1 ports, a USB hub and a DisplayPort 1.4 input. Users will also enjoy better comfort and convenience with VESA mount² compatibility and a height adjustable stand (HAS) that features tilt, swivel and pivot³ control points.

Connected Experiences in a Complete Ecosystem

The Odyssey OLED G9 and Odyssey OLED G8 now offer Multi Control, a new feature that provides seamless device connectivity for an easier, improved multi-device experience. Multi Control allows users to seamlessly transfer images and/or text between their Samsung monitor and other Samsung devices — including their Galaxy Book, tablet or phone — for a smoother, more efficient work process using their mouse and keyboard.⁴

Additionally, the Odyssey OLED G9 and Odyssey OLED G8 include the Samsung SmartThings Hub. With the built-in hub, users can connect to various IoT devices that are compatible with Matter and the Home Connectivity Alliance (HCA), for device control.⁵

When switching from work to play, the Odyssey OLED G9 and Odyssey OLED G8 monitors are all-in-one entertainment hubs. Equipped with the Samsung Smart TV platform and Samsung Gaming Hub, they provide access to streaming and cloud gaming services without downloads, storage constraints or the need for a PC/console.⁶

A Sleek Design To Light Up Any Space

For the first time, Samsung has brought flat OLED options to the Odyssey lineup and a 16:9 aspect ratio to the Odyssey OLED G8 and Odyssey OLED G6. The new models leverage the Odyssey OLED lineup’s unique, slim metal design and include new Core Lighting+ to fit in their slim bezels.

Core Lighting+ immerses users in the environments of their games and entertainment by emitting ambient light from the back of the monitor. And with a lighting circle four times slimmer than the previous model (G95SC model), it fits in seamlessly with the slim 3.9mm metal bezel. There’s also a new slim metal stand that adopts a tool-free assembly structure, using a 3mm metal plate that provides harmony with the display design and opens up space for other devices.

With the unveiling of these new models, Samsung has further strengthened its OLED lineup and bolstered its leadership position in the gaming monitor market. Together, the Odyssey OLED innovations and the continued advancements of the Odyssey Neo series — which saw the release of the world’s first Dual UHD gaming monitor last year with the 57” Odyssey Neo G9 (G95NC model) — are delivering features and performance that will help define the future of gaming.

This year marks the third anniversary of the partnership between Samsung Electronics and T1, a South Korean esports team with a series of championship wins under its belt. These films were produced by renowned South Korean director Yunsung Kang — most known for “The Outlaws” (2017), “Long Live the King” (2019) and “Big Bet” (2022). In a modern-meets-medieval battle adventure, viewers can follow the T1 team and watch how Samsung gaming monitors play a shocking twist. Samsung Newsroom sat down with Director Yunsung Kang and T1 members ‘Keria’, ‘Gumayusi’, ‘Faker’, ‘Oner’ and ‘Zeus’ to learn more about their behind-the-scenes experience.

Q. What are your thoughts on the new Odyssey models?

‘Faker’: The Odyssey monitors just keep getting better. The new 57-inch Odyssey Neo G9 is truly impressive with its massive screen that commands attention. I didn’t realize its size from a distance, but I fully grasped its scale when I got closer. The Odyssey Neo G9 is the ideal choice for those who prefer a larger monitor.

‘Oner’: The Odyssey OLED G9 is so large that it almost resembles a TV, rather than a typical monitor. This could also be useful when watching videos.

‘Zeus’: All of the monitors boast huge dimensions. The ultra-wide screen helps me play League of Legends strategically, offering a wide view of the map and an incredibly immersive gaming experience.

Q. As a gamer, what is your top priority when choosing a monitor?

‘Faker’: Most gamers value response time and refresh rate. I prefer a monitor with a fast response time to minimize ghosting.

‘Oner’: Refresh rate is the most important factor for me. I always check whether a monitor supports a 240Hz refresh rate.

‘Keria’: Although I use a monitor with a 240Hz refresh rate, monitors with 144Hz or higher refresh rates are sufficient for most users.

‘Gumayusi’: Unlike some gamers, I’m not very sensitive to monitor specifications. However, since I’m used to high refresh rates, switching to low-quality specs could hinder my skills. I want to focus solely on the game itself.

‘Zeus’: I agree with ‘Oner’ — refresh rate is crucial for me too. I used to have a monitor with a 60Hz refresh rate, but the gaming experience was so much smoother once I switched to one with a higher refresh rate. I can’t imagine going back to a low-refresh rate monitor now.

Yoonsung Kang, the director behind the 2021 Odyssey Neo G9 brand film, has returned to work on the 2023 Odyssey brand films.

Q. What was your main objective when planning this Odyssey brand film?

Yoonsung Kang: My top priority for this project was to focus on the monitors’ immense size. As such, I planned a concept around a large-scale medieval battle to effectively showcase the Odyssey’s advantages.

Q. Can you share some of the highlights from this brand film?

Kang: One of the standout moments in these videos is the unexpected plot twist. The story follows the T1 team changing the course of a battle — then, a twist unfolds. Just when the members believe they won the battle, ‘Faker’ expands the screen to reveal more enemies approaching from both sides. It’s a plot twist that’s bound to captivate viewers.

Q. What was it like to step away from your usual game matches and daily training to participate in this brand film?

‘Oner’, ‘Zeus’ and ‘Keria’: We were truly impressed that the choreography incorporated our signature poses. While we were worried at first — we’re not dancers — the choreographer’s detailed directions helped us finish the project successfully. I hope our fans enjoy the videos.

‘Faker’: All in all, it was a new and refreshing experience. I’ve been on TV shows with numerous cameras before, but this was my first time dancing. I felt a bit awkward yet excited at the same time.

Q. Out of the Odyssey monitors you’ve had the chance to try out, which one is your favorite?

‘Faker’: My favorite is the 49-inch Odyssey OLED G9. I like its fast response time and sleek metal design on the back.

‘Zeus’: The 49-inch Odyssey OLED G9 is my top pick as well. The Infinity Core lighting displays mesmerizing rainbow colors, and the metal design gives the monitor a chic vibe.

‘Keria’: For me, the 57-inch Odyssey Neo G9 is the most appealing — the white and glossy back cover feels luxurious.

‘Gumayusi’: I’ve already used the Odyssey Ark at T1 HQ’s lounge and enjoyed the Multi View feature since I like to play multiple games simultaneously. Because I prefer large screens, my top choice is the 57-inch Odyssey Neo G9.

‘Oner’: It’s honestly difficult to pick just one. The new Odyssey models are amazing with their large screens and wide displays. I like them all.

Samsung Electronics welcomed gamers to its largest Gamescom booth ever, measuring 752 square meters.

At the booth, Samsung showed off its vision for the future of gaming, which includes the upgraded Odyssey gaming monitor lineup. From gaming monitors to gaming TVs with Samsung Gaming Hub, as well as mobile and storage technologies on display, Samsung demonstrated its commitment to the gaming community.

Unveiling the World’s First Dual UHD monitor, the Odyssey Neo G9

On the first day of Gamescom 2023, Samsung hosted a keynote presentation, with key partners including AMD and Pearl Abyss, to introduce the remarkable capabilities of the new 57-inch Odyssey Neo G9 (G95NC), which was fully unveiled at Gamescom.

In the keynote, Ben Holmes, Director of Europe Display Marketing for Samsung Electronics showcased the ambition of the Odyssey Neo G9, which is to bring gamers together through immersive gaming experiences. “It’s our most immersive monitor ever, for the gamers who want to get lost in the ultimate experience,” he said.

Frank Azor, Chief Architect of Gaming Solutions and Gaming Marketing, AMD, shared what it means to collaborate with Samsung, saying, “With the Odyssey Neo G9, Samsung came to us with a challenge of powering this incredible-looking display with the graphics horsepower and the bandwidth necessary to be able to let it do what it was designed to do: deliver the most immersive graphics and gaming experiences possible.”

Next up was Rick van Beem, Head of Marketing & PR at Pearl Abyss. With their globally successful MMORPG, Black Desert Online, he explained how Samsung monitors make the most out of the game. “We partnered with Samsung because we believe that the 32:9 display format offered by Samsung’s displays is an ideal way to play Black Desert Online.”

The newest entry in the Odyssey lineup, the Odyssey Neo G9 was designed to look spectacular and to support the connectivity needs of gamers. In addition to HDMI 2.1, the Odyssey Neo G9 supports the VESA-certified DP (Display Port) 2.1 connectivity. The Dual UHD and a high refresh rate of 240Hz will provide gamers with an optimal gaming experience for high-performance games.¹

Bringing the Excitement to Samsung’s Largest-Ever Gamescom Presence

At Samsung’s booth, fans could experience this year’s new products hands-on, including the brand new 57-inch Odyssey Neo G9 (G95NC), the upgraded Odyssey Ark (G97NC), and the 49-inch Odyssey OLED G9 (G95SC), all in one place.

The booth was packed with gamers from all over the world, who flocked to experience the incredibly large screen and image quality of the 57-inch Odyssey Neo G9, which was fully unveiled for the first time in person at Gamescom.

“The screen is so big that I have no problem streaming and gaming at the same time,” said one streamer who tried out the Odyssey Neo G9. Another visitor to the booth said, “It wraps around me and makes me feel like I’m inside the game.”

The upgraded Odyssey Ark debuted at Gamescom with significant enhancements to connectivity and convenience. The new Multi View lets users see input from up to 4 devices at once,² and make the most out of the Odyssey Ark’s large screen.

A visitor who experienced the Odyssey Ark commented, “It’s nice to be able to see a variety of things on one screen while working. I can use this instead of multiple screens.” In addition, the Odyssey OLED G9 impressed visitors at the booth. “The colors were amazing and vibrant,” commented one gamer. “It looked really good!”

Seamless Gaming Across Multiple Amazing Displays

Driven by partnerships with gaming companies, the Samsung booth was full of gaming monitors with industry-leading specifications, gaming TVs, Samsung Gaming Hub, and mobile devices to allow visitors to experience a wide range of games on their preferred gaming screen.

As part of this partnership, in the keynote’s last session, Mike Lucero, Head of North America Gaming Service for Samsung Electronics announced that Bethesda Game Studios’ much-anticipated open-world space adventure “Starfield” will be available through the Samsung Gaming Hub, with an Xbox Game Pass subscription from September.

Samsung Gaming Hub³ is also highly popular among console gamers, as it allows them to enjoy a variety of game titles from partners like Xbox and NVIDIA GeForce NOW without connecting consoles. Families with children could be seen having fun in the Samsung Gaming Hub zone, which is organized to play games on the TV like an arcade.

A gamer who visited with his children said that the Samsung Gaming Hub “looks just as good as if I was playing directly on [a gaming console].”

On the main stage, Samsung continuously hosted events and programs with popular streamers and eSports teams. Fun competitions with today’s most popular games and exciting conversations kept the attention of booth visitors through the entire show. The world’s first 240Hz 4K gaming monitor, the Odyssey Neo G8 32” was able to fully express the colorful graphics and fast pace of games like Overwatch 2.

A “Racing Challenge” was held in the Gaming TV zone with 98-inch QLED Q80C. Fans could race using a steering gear and a high-definition Gaming TV, for life-like high-octane, thrilling matches.

At Gamescom 2023, Samsung Electronics announced a partnership with NEXON to adopt HDR10+ GAMING technology, a high-definition video standard for gaming. The world’s first HDR10+ GAMING title, “The First Descendant” developed by NEXON will provide gamers with the ultimate HDR game experience through deeper color, contrast and brightness.

And Samsung was proud to show how a premiere gaming screen can bring games like Black Desert Online from Pearl Abyss studio.

In North America, 1,800 units were initially produced with the prepared stock selling out in less than two weeks while 700 units were sold in Europe. In Korea, the 100 available units were sold out in an hour, demonstrating the monitor’s market popularity.

Its 1000R curved 57” screen uses quantum mini LED technology with VESA Display HDR 1000 specification to deliver superior imaging in any gaming environment, from shadows to bright scenes. The Matte Display reduces light reflection on the screen, minimizing distractions during the most intense gaming sessions.

Samsung plans to expand device choices and usability by supporting Matter functionality and Home Connectivity Alliance standards from this year onwards.

Mouse control functionality has been added to many of the Smart Monitor’s over-the-top apps, including SmartThings and the Smart Hub, for a new level of convenient control without a remote.

Users can use the Smart Monitor M8 to get instant access to Prime Video, Netflix, YouTube and other over-the-top services through Smart Hub. They can also easily access Samsung Gaming Hub, the all-in-one game streaming platform.

The new My Contents feature provides users with helpful information at a glance. When the monitor is on standby mode and detects a registered smartphone through low-power Bluetooth, it shows the user’s personalized photos, schedule and more on the screen. The monitor returns to standby mode when the phone moves out of range.

In addition, the Smart Monitor M8 is also protected by Samsung Knox Vault, which encrypts personal data and keeps stored files and information isolated from the device’s main operating system to safeguard it from attacks.
