Committed to creating mobile innovations that not only surpass expectations of what’s possible but bring those innovations to as many people as possible, Samsung expands the latest One UI 4.1.1 from Galaxy Z Fold4 and Z Flip4 and One UI Watch4.5 for the Galaxy Watch5 series to previous generations of Galaxy foldables and smartwatches.

The software updates will start with the Galaxy Z Fold3 and Galaxy Z Flip3 beginning on September 5 and roll out gradually to global countries. One UI 4.1.1 will be also extended to Galaxy Z Fold2, Z Flip and Z Fold.1 One UI Watch4.5 will be supported on Galaxy Watch4 and Galaxy Watch4 Classic.2 In addition, Galaxy Watch3 and Galaxy Watch Active2 users will be able to enjoy a software update3 that delivers selected features from the One UI Watch4.5.

Read on to learn more about the new features Galaxy users can look forward to with One UI 4.1.1 and One UI Watch4.5.

Streamlined Multitasking With Expanded Camera Functionality

Galaxy Z series devices have changed what we can do with a smartphone, unlocking new levels of productivity and better ways to create. With One UI 4.1.1, new productivity and camera features are designed to make already powerful devices more intuitive.

Get More From Your Taskbar

The Galaxy Z Fold series has always been about shapeshifting, with different ways to increase functionality, whether your device is opened or closed. With the new Taskbar,4 you can access and switch between apps faster than ever, providing a familiar PC-like layout that puts everything you need right at your fingertips.

Open Multi-Window From Anywhere

With drag-and-drop support straight from the Taskbar, multitasking5 on Galaxy Z Fold is easier than ever. Dragging an app to the edge now opens split view, while dragging it into the center will open it in pop-up view, giving you multiple ways to see your apps and easy switching between views.

Sometimes the best apps come in twos and threes. If there are apps you find yourself using together, you can now add pairs or groups of apps to the Taskbar, allowing you to access your favorite app pairs all at once.

Multitasking features are also more intuitive and easier to interact with now, thanks to new gestures.6 With simple swipe gestures, you can instantly switch full-screen apps to pop-up windows or split your screen in half for more ways to manage your tasks.

New Ways To Take Full Photographic Advantage of Galaxy Z Fold’s Two Distinct Sets of Screens

The Galaxy Z series offers a truly versatile photography experience, making the most of its flexible form factors. With Dual Preview, you and your subject can see the shot at the same time before it’s captured by displaying the image both on the Main and Cover Screen. Now with full control of the camera right on the Cover Screen, you can take high-resolution selfies with the main camera using Rear Cam Selfie.

Flippable Phone, Flexible Camera7

An upgrade to Quick Shot on the Galaxy Z Flip series now lets you see the preview and take photos in their true ratio on the Cover Screen while allowing you to access Portrait Mode to make every moment photogenic. You can also switch seamlessly from Quick Shot to Flex mode8 while taking photos or recording video, letting you switch between angles without interrupting your shot for a truly hands-free experience.

More Power to the Cover Screen9

One UI 4.1.1 brings all new functionalities to the Cover Screen on the Galaxy Z Flip series, letting you do more than ever without opening your phone. Make calls to your favorite contacts, dial back missed calls and even reply to texts with voice-to-text and emojis right from the Cover Screen. And you can now take more control over your device with additional Quick Setting options, including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, airplane mode and flashlight.

Added Customization, Convenience and Health Features on Previous Galaxy Watch Generations

Samsung is empowering existing Galaxy Watch users with a more complete watch experience, including more customization options and added features that bring benefits to their everyday lives.

More Watch Faces and More Ways To Customize Them

One UI Watch4.5 brings six new colorful and interactive watch faces and a palette of fresh new colors and dynamic complications to the Galaxy Watch4 series. It makes the series’ variety of distinct layout options even more diverse so users can match their unique lifestyles with the perfect type of display. Never lose track of your own watch faces, thanks to the favorite watch face list, which helps you save your creations and access them quickly and easily.

More Convenient Communication With the New QWERTY Keyboard

One UI Watch4.5 makes communication on Galaxy Watch4 series smoother and more convenient than ever. Users have more choices over how they communicate right from their wrist with the addition of a QWERTY keyboard to existing voice recognition and handwriting features,10 helping users switch conveniently between different communication styles for different occasions.

Continuous Software Support for Galaxy Watch3 and Galaxy Watch Active2

In addition, beginning from the end of September, a new software update will enable Galaxy Watch3 and Galaxy Watch Active2 users also to enjoy some of the new features of Galaxy Watch5 series. It includes two new watch faces — Gradient number and Pro analog — to help users express their tastes and styles better, and snore detection to provide more analysis of last night’s sleep quality.

On top of them, Samsung Health Monitor app11 to measure blood pressure (BP)12 and electrocardiogram (ECG)13 will be expanded to Galaxy Watch3 and Watch Active2 users in recently launched 24 markets, giving deeper insights into their overall health.

Samsung Electronics’ biggest, boldest and most versatile tablet range, brings more utility to everyday tasks through its wide display and flexible, creative functions. Now, with Android’s 12L updates, the flagship tablet’s large-screen experience is even more optimized, with updates coming to the Galaxy Tab S8 series and to other Galaxy tablets1 soon after.

A notable change the 12L update will bring to the Galaxy Tab S8 series is the addition of a taskbar at the bottom of the screen, making the tablet’s UI more intuitive and user-friendly than ever before. Going forward, Galaxy Tab S8 series users can enjoy swifter, more intuitive app switching, more customizable layouts, frictionless multitasking and applications that render better than ever on large screens. Split Screen View can support up to three screens, the taskbar can be temporarily hidden for a more immersive screen view, notifications can be dragged straight into split screen and all apps can be viewed in a grid-style layout, to name a few of the changes users can expect.

Read on to learn more about how 12L is putting accessibility and productivity front and center on the Galaxy Tab S8 series.

Multitasking Made Easy Through Taskbar

Need access to articles and videos at the same time? Want to search your photo gallery while keeping one eye on a message thread? 12L makes the Galaxy Tab S8 series’ new and improved taskbar sleeker and more responsive than ever with expanded multitasking capabilities. Customize your taskbar with your favorite apps and tap seamlessly and speedily between active sessions. The taskbar also remembers and displays your two most recently used applications at any given time, so you can always easily pick up where you left off.

Need to view multiple apps at once? Simply drag and drop two or three of your key apps from the taskbar to split the screen and see the app sessions side by side. You can also enter split screen by enabling the ‘Swipe for Split Screen’ option through Galaxy Labs, a feature that lets you swipe from the left, right or bottom of the screen with two fingers to open up a new application in split screen. To get back to the home screen again, just tap the home button in the taskbar.

Step-by-step guide: Go to Settings > Advanced Features > Labs > Click on “Swipe for split screen” to turn on the feature

Maximizing Split Screen Potential on the Galaxy Tab S8 Series’ Large Screen

The Galaxy Tab S8 series has a detailed and spacious display and new updates let users maximize and customize it to the fullest, unlocking their tablet’s full productivity potential.

Whether you want to stay updated on a group chat while planning your route to the meet-up or want to work on your investment portfolio and check stock price changes at the same time, there are now more ways than ever to enter and make use of split screen. When a notification pops up, users can choose to enter full screen straight away or drag the notification next to a currently active app to instantly enter Split Screen View without disrupting what they were already doing.

You can also use your taskbar to save whole groups of activities by saving your favorite App Pair2 in a folder. If one split screen layout is being used to research a new product you are thinking of buying and another layout is dedicated to planning a holiday, save both layouts to the taskbar as separate App Pairs and jump between them at will.

Split Screen View can take your multitasking to new heights by displaying up to three apps at once, which users can rearrange and resize to best fit whatever tasks they are working on.

Step-by-step guide: Open App pair (up to three apps at once) > Tap the three dots in the border between the apps > Click the star-shaped Favorite symbol > Add the app pair to taskbar

New Peek-Through Feature Makes Pop-Overs See-Through When Needed

Pop-overs are powerful. They let you schedule events, change settings and more, all without switching screens. Sometimes, however, you need a quick look at your Samsung Calendar app when adding an event or a peek at your to-do list when writing a reminder, and pop-overs can sometimes get in the way.

With the latest updates,3 you can peek right through your pop-overs by touching and holding the screen around them. Doing this will turn pop-overs temporarily transparent so that you can see the rest of the app behind them. They reappear as soon as you lift your finger. Through simple touch and hold, this seamless flow lets you see the big picture when it comes to making new plans and also works with Clock and Reminder apps.

Step-by-step guide: Open your Samsung Calendar/Clock/Reminder > Plan a new event in a pop-over > Touch and hold the screen outside the pop-over to peek through

More Apps Optimized for Split Screen Make for a Satisfying Productivity Experience

12L expands the list of third-party applications supported on the Galaxy Tab S8 series by enabling all apps to open in a pop-up view or Split Screen View, ensuring that apps are rendered proportionally and optimally on a larger screen.4

Adding to pre-existing optimized apps, like Samsung Notes and Google Meet, 12L introduces a wider range of third-party apps that are also designed to scale and adapt to a larger screen. In the months following the 12L update, users will continue to see even more third-party apps optimized for larger-window experiences. Whether on their own or viewed in Split Screen View, this new UI ensures your apps give you maximum productivity power and make the most of every inch of the Galaxy Tab S8 series’ generous display.

Step-by-step guide: Go to Settings > Advanced Features > Labs > Turn on “Multi window for all apps”

1 Android 12L will be made available for Galaxy tablets including but not limited to Tab S8 series, Tab S7 series, Tab S7 FE, Tab S6, Tab S6 Lite and Tab Active3.

2 App Pair supports up to three apps simultaneously. Feature availability may vary depending on app.

3 Peek-through pop-over options available with One UI 4.1.1 update.

4 Enabling Multi Window for third-party apps requires activating through Labs. Please see step-by-step guide for further details.
