As more and more people enjoy high-end mobile games that have become comparable to PC and console games, optimized smartphone performance for handling mobile games has become increasingly important. In line with this trend, the Galaxy S23 Ultra is meeting the needs of avid mobile gamers, offering powerful performance, faster reaction speeds, immersive graphics and a long-lasting battery. One UI 5.1, the latest Galaxy software, provides a more personalized experience and convenient usability than before, all on the Galaxy S23 Ultra.

To experience the powerful performance, innovative features and revamped gaming capabilities of the Galaxy series, Samsung Newsroom tried out the Galaxy S23 Ultra, providing more colorful and vivid mobile experiences for users.

Level Up With Powerful Performance

▲ Enjoy thrilling mobile games, such as the action-packed racing game Wreckfest,1 on the Galaxy S23 Ultra. The Galaxy S23 Ultra is equipped with Snapdragon® 8 Gen 2 Mobile Platform for Galaxy, enabling fast and smooth gameplay.

Mobile gaming requires high-performing hardware and software to provide the best gaming experience in the palm of your hands. The Galaxy S23 Ultra has Snapdragon® 8 Gen 2 Mobile Platform for Galaxy, providing a vastly different mobile gaming experience. In addition, the upgraded GPU is 41% faster than the previous model, and the neural network processing unit (NPU) required for artificial intelligence (AI) deep learning has improved by 40%.2 In short, gamers can be immersed in the game action thanks to vivid graphics and upgraded processing power.

▲ Graphics from the mobile game Wreckfest captured from the Galaxy S23 Ultra. The details of the vehicle, object movement and other action-filled gameplay seem realistic and vivid.

A powerful graphics rendering technology called Ray tracing has also been applied to the Galaxy S23 Ultra’s GPU. The technology enhances immersion and creates realistic in-game play just like that of a PC game by displaying lighting, light reflection and shadows in the game more realistically. Thanks to this, you can experience more realistic graphics and in-game action on mobile, just as you can on a PC. Moreover, Samsung Electronics plans to continue collaborating with various global game distributors and game engine companies on GPU-based technology.

▲ Playing games with the Galaxy S23 Ultra is more enjoyable and immersive. The graphics processing unit (GPU), which has been improved by 41% compared to the previous model, displays realistic, high-definition graphics and increases the level of immersion in the game.

While playing the action racing mobile game Wreckfest, feel as if you’re actually driving off-road thanks to vivid visuals and breathtaking graphics. When colliding with obstacles, sand and dust realistically scatter and debris flies around, adding to the excitement and immersion of the game. Similarly, Samsung announced at Galaxy Unpacked 2023 that it would continue GPU-based technology collaboration with various global game distributors and game engine companies, stirring up excitement and anticipation among many game users.

▲ With the upgraded Vision booster, the Galaxy S23 Ultra automatically adjusts the screen brightness based on lighting conditions of the surrounding environment.

Nothing has as much impact on your gaming experience as the screen. The Galaxy S23 Ultra display comes with an upgraded Vision booster that automatically adjusts the brightness of the display gradually based on the user’s lighting environment. Even in strong sunlight, users can see their display clearly and brightly.

Multitask Seamlessly While Playing Games

Through the Multi-window function, you can run two apps simultaneously or open a pop-up window as you can on a laptop to work quickly and efficiently.

The CPU performance of the Galaxy S23 series has also been improved by about 30% compared to the previous model, resulting in faster processing speeds. In fact, even when multiple apps are active, it showed smooth and fast processing speed without interruption.

These powerful chipsets increase efficiency, allowing multitasking capabilities to be utilized faster and more efficiently. The Galaxy S23 series offers smooth and fast response speeds even while performing CPU-heavy functions, such as video calling while playing a game or watching a movie while checking social media. In addition, the usability of the Multi-window functionality has been enhanced, and frequently used apps are displayed under Recent apps, making it more convenient to quickly launch and switch between apps.

Carry Less With Enhanced Battery Capacity

▲ Spend less time charging and more time using with the Galaxy S23 Ultra.

The Galaxy S23 series also comes with greatly improved battery life. The battery capacity of the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23+ are 3,900mAh and 4,700mAh respectively, increased by 200mAh from the previous generation. The Galaxy S23 Ultra is powered by a 5000mAh battery and can be charged up to 65% in 30 minutes with a 45W power adapter.3 In other words, users can spend less time worrying about their device’s battery life and more time enjoying their favorite apps and activities.

Fulfill Your Own, Unique Experiences With One UI 5.1 Update

Did you know that just receiving an image might be enough to let hackers in? While everyone knows not to open random links or attachments, that no longer guarantees safety as cybercriminals constantly explore new methods of attack.

Zero-click exploits are the latest kind of cyberattack, and they can take place any time an image is received. A single image could be hiding malicious code.

While there has been no sign of such attacks on Samsung Galaxy smartphones, Samsung Electronics constantly looks ahead to anticipate potential threats and develop preemptive security measures — such as Samsung Message Guard.

New Security for New Threats

Picture this: your phone receives an image. It vibrates gently in your pocket before going still. Or it’s on your bedside table, lighting up briefly as you sleep. You haven’t touched your phone, but someone may already be reading your messages, browsing your gallery and copying your bank details.

Zero-click exploits are just the latest threat in an era of increased cybercrime targeting user data. One in three consumers around the world has been the victim of a data breach where their personal data was hacked.1 Data breaches are increasingly common, with rates more than tripling between 2013 and 2021.2

Threats evolve, but so too does Samsung’s mobile security. Samsung Galaxy smartphones offer comprehensive safeguards with the powerful Samsung Knox platform, and users are already protected from attacks using video and audio formats. Samsung Message Guard takes that security one step further by preemptively protecting your device, limiting exposure to invisible threats disguised as image attachments.3

The security solution currently works on Samsung Messages and Messages by Google.4 In line with Samsung’s philosophy of open collaboration, a software update will roll out at a later date to let Samsung Message Guard protect you across third party messaging apps as well.

A Secure Environment

Samsung Message Guard is an advanced “sandbox,” or a kind of virtual quarantine. When an image file arrives, it is trapped and isolated from the rest of the device. This prevents malicious code from accessing your phone’s files or interacting with its operating system. Samsung Message Guard checks the file bit by bit and processes it in a controlled environment to ensure it cannot infect the rest of your device.

Simply put, Samsung Message Guard automatically neutralizes any potential threat hiding in image files before they have a chance to do you any harm. It also runs silently and largely invisibly in the background and does not need to be activated by the user. So where previously you could be endangered without doing anything, now you are protected from zero-click exploits without lifting a finger.

Samsung Message Guard is just the latest forward-looking security solution from Samsung. Separately, Samsung Galaxy devices already provide industry-leading security and privacy protections in other areas, thanks to the award-winning Samsung Knox. This provides end-to-end protection across every layer of hardware and software, as well as real-time threat detection.

Availability

Samsung Message Guard is a solution on the Samsung Galaxy S23 series. It will be gradually rolled out to other Galaxy smartphones and tablets5 later this year.

3 Samsung Message Guard supports protection against the following image formats: PNG, JPG/JPEG, GIF, ICO, WEBP, BMP, WBMP.

Samsung Electronics today announced One UI 5.1, which was newly unveiled with the Galaxy S23 series at Galaxy Unpacked 2023, will begin to roll out worldwide for other Galaxy devices starting with the Galaxy S22 series,1 Z Fold4, Z Flip4, S21 series2 and S20 series.3 With One UI 5.1, Galaxy devices will deliver a more visually appealing interface with new features that enable greater creativity and personalization for a more convenient experience overall.

“One UI 5.1 is the up-to-date example of Samsung’s commitment to providing Galaxy users with the latest innovations as soon as possible,” said Janghyun Yoon, EVP and Senior Executive, Software Office. “Over the past several weeks, we have worked closely with our service providers and carrier partners to bring One UI 5.1 to current Galaxy smartphones and tablets around the world within a few short weeks of the Galaxy S23 series announcement.”

Professional-Quality Camera and More Engaging Gallery

One UI 5.1 expands upon the recently upgraded camera features announced with the Galaxy S23 series. Galaxy users now have greater flexibility to create professional quality photos with Expert RAW4 features now available directly as part of the Galaxy Camera app. Simply select “More” while taking a photo to capture high-quality shots in their raw format. Additionally, enhanced AI-based Photo Remaster automatically improves deteriorated details of images by improving brightness, fine-tuning details and making color corrections even in backlit scenes. It also removes unwanted shadows and reflections for a picture-perfect photo.5

▲ Enhanced Photo Remaster

New navigation improvements also make it easier than ever to find photos within the Gallery app and create shared family albums.6 Simply tap a person’s face in a photo to conduct a search for more images while the Gallery app searches for faces of loved ones to recommend for family photo albums.

A Unique Mobile Experience Personalized for Every User

Samsung has long been focused on giving Galaxy users greater control over their devices by customizing various user interface aspects. One UI 5.1 delivers several exciting new features that allow people to fine-tune nearly every aspect of the mobile experience — from appearance, to communications, actions and more. Samsung introduced new features that can understand how devices are used and make recommendations accordingly. For example, the new dynamic weather widget analyzes current conditions and creates a custom design that reflects the climate. Modes and Routines have expanded to enable custom wallpapers, ringtones, touch sensitivity and fonts that can personalize specific activities for even more convenience. One UI 5.1 also improves the Smart suggestions widget7 by adding the ability to recommend Spotify8 tracks and playlists based on users’ activities, such as music for road trips or relaxing.

Greater Connectivity Throughout Galaxy Ecosystem

Samsung has also developed One UI to bring greater integration and connectivity throughout the mobile ecosystem and introduced features supporting this mission. Users can enjoy a connected ecosystem across their mobile and PC with expanded Multi Control between Galaxy Book and smartphones.9 This enables users to share the mouse, keyboard or trackpad of their Galaxy Book not only with their Galaxy tablet but now also with select Galaxy phones, allowing them to copy and paste text and drag and drop images from one device to another seamlessly — as if they’re the same, single device. Furthermore, Link to Windows enables users to browse with Samsung Internet on their phones to continue browsing the same pages on their PC10 seamlessly. These pages can also be opened from one device to another, making everyday life much easier.
