When it comes to long-distance running, Sifan Hassan has already cemented her place in the history books. But her story is about so much more than an awe-inspiring collection of medals and world records. Incredible grit, openness and determination led her to where she is today.

Hassan has been chasing challenges her whole life. At the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, she fell during the women’s 1,500-meter race and yet went on to qualify for the semi-finals. She was almost hit by a motorbike while grabbing water at the 2023 London Marathon but went on to win gold at her first competitive marathon ever. The Olympic Games Paris 2024 was no exception. Hassan set the extremely ambitious goal of competing in three consecutive long-distance races over the span of one week.

▲ Sifan Hassan of Team Netherlands competes in the women’s marathon. (Photo by Michael Steele / Getty Images)

Samsung Newsroom caught up with Hassan shortly after her epic performance in Paris to learn more about her Olympic experience and find out what drives her.

▲ Sifan Hassan

Q. Competing in three long-distance events at the Olympic Games Paris 2024 was an ambitious choice — but ambition seems to be your trademark. What motivates you to take on these seemingly impossible challenges?

I’m a curious person, and I get bored with routines. Training for something I had already done in Tokyo felt repetitive. I wanted to try something new that no one else or only a few others had done before. It seemed hard, but I wanted to see just how hard it was. That’s what motivated me!

Q. How did you start preparing to compete in all three events? Did you develop a unique strategy to tackle each one?

I always try to be a complete athlete and train for different distances. The marathon was probably the most important event to me at the Olympic Games, so I focused a lot on it. But I gave the other distances the same dedication to be ready for anything.

Q. How did technology support your journey to the Olympic Games Paris 2024? Were there any specific tools or devices that made a difference in your training or performance?

I am often away from my family and friends for altitude training and races, so being able to video call them when I want using my Galaxy S24 Ultra is crucial. I also own a Galaxy wearable device connected my smartphone which is so lightweight that I forget I have it on when running. The device shares insights to help me know and listen to my body better — especially when it comes to sleep, an essential part of my training.

Q. You took the lead in the final sprint and set a new Olympic Games record. How did you feel?

To be honest, it felt like a firework went off in my head. I stayed focused all the way to the finish line, even up to the last 10 meters, because I was afraid of falling. In a marathon, you never know what can happen. It was just pure happiness when I crossed the finish line.

Q. You competed in the marathon just 35 hours after winning the bronze medal in the 10,000–meter race. How did you manage to rest and recover in such a short amount of time?

I knew sleep and nutrition were going to be key from the start — not just in between the 10,000-meter race and the marathon but throughout the entire Olympic Games. I tried to stay away from any distractions and got as much sleep as possible!

▲ (From left) Silver medalist Beatrice Chebet of Team Kenya, gold medalist Faith Kipyegon of Team Kenya and bronze medalist Sifan Hassan of Team Netherlands pose for a Victory Selfie after the women’s 5,000-meter final. (Photo by Andy Astfalck / BSR Agency / Getty Images)

Q. It was the first time the women’s marathon medal ceremony was held at the closing ceremony. How did that feel?

To think that millions of people were watching felt very special. It was nice to have my fellow Dutch athletes right next to me on the course, cheering me on.

Q. In the Voices of Galaxy video, you mentioned the importance of maintaining a strong mindset as an Olympic athlete. What are some ways you stay focused and positive?

I always try to be grateful for everything I’ve accomplished. Before the Olympic Games, I was already thankful just to have qualified for different events and to be able to compete. You can’t take everything for granted and simply move on from achievements you’ve worked hard for. It’s important to recognize how far you’ve come and appreciate the progress.

▲ Sifan Hassan of Team Netherlands celebrates after winning the women’s marathon. (Photo by Cameron Spencer / Getty Images)

Q. You completed the marathon at the Olympic Games Paris 2024 in 2 hours, 22 minutes and 55 seconds. While this is an incredibly fast time, running for that long still requires immense mental endurance. What went through your mind during the run?

Racing is the most exciting part! I just focused on staying with the lead pack for as long as possible.

Q. Do you have a message for your fellow Team Samsung Galaxy members who are competing at the Paralympic Games Paris 2024?

I am so inspired by the athletes. They know better than anyone else that the human mind is unbelievably powerful. I wish them the best!

Q. What challenge are you taking on next?

It’s a tough question to answer. The Olympic Games are obviously the highest point in our sport, so this was the big goal. I plan to take some time to appreciate everything I’ve done to get here and carefully think of next steps as I return to training!

Q. What’s your message to the next generation who looks up to you and is inspired by your achievements and drive?

Sports are so important. They make you healthier, help you live longer and encourage you to set goals in all areas of your life. Please exercise and try to inspire the people around you to do the same!

The Olympic Games Paris 2024 has made history, electrifying the City of Light and the rest of the world with thrilling competition. Captivating performances in the breaking, skateboarding and surfing competitions — three of the newest sports to be part of the Olympic Games — garnered a bustling community of supporters and championed a new era. Now, more than ever, the Olympic Games is pivoting to welcome new sports as the event seeks to connect with a new generation of athletes and fans.

To celebrate breaking’s debut at Paris 2024 and the second Olympic Games appearance of surfing and skateboarding, Samsung is embracing the close-knit communities of each sport and showcasing some of their biggest stars. Team Samsung Galaxy members Grace “Sunny” Choi (Breaking, USA), Johanne Defay (Surfing, France) and Karam Singh (Breaking, Great Britain) joined Samsung for Chat with Team Samsung Galaxy — an exclusive conversation in which they opened up about their sports’ recognition on a global stage and what this means to the communities standing behind them.

Samsung Newsroom joined fans and media at Olympic rendezvous @ Samsung | Champs-Elysees 125 on August 10 to hear more about the trailblazing athletes’ journey to the Olympic Games.

▲ (From left) Team Samsung Galaxy members Karam Singh, Johanne Defay and Sunny Choi connect with fans and media at Olympic rendezvous @ Samsung | Champs-Elysees 125.

Breaking, skateboarding and surfing — along with their communities — reflect Samsung’s campaign theme of “Open always wins” which centers around the core belief that anything is possible with an open mind. In line with this, Samsung developed a three-part docu-series focusing on the new Olympic Games sports.

Chat with Team Samsung Galaxy featured a screening of two of these films — “Breaking Boundaries,” developed in close collaboration with Pro Breaking Tour (PBT), and “Next Wave,” developed in close collaboration with World Surf League (WSL). In the videos, Team Samsung Galaxy athletes and industry legends share their perspectives on the new sports and celebrate their communities.

▲ Screening of the docu-series at Olympic rendezvous @ Samsung | Champs-Elysees 125

The moderator kickstarted the discussion by asking Singh about his community back in Derby, England, and what it meant to breakers there for the sport to be part of the Olympic Games. The breaker also discussed his own personal mission of supporting the next generation and helping them pursue their passions against all odds.

“Thanks to the Olympics, now your parents and grandparents will know what breaking is. It’s going to have a huge impact on the community and young kids out there who are striving for greatness,” he said. “Just remember, it’s all about the journey. No matter what life throws at you, stay open to the opportunities it brings.”

As Team France’s Olympic bronze medalist in surfing, Defay reflected on the importance of staying open-minded and embracing new experiences while recounting her experiences surfing in Teahupo’o, Tahiti.

“Paris 2024 has been such an amazing experience. Coming home with a bronze medal is just the cherry on top,” she said. “Surfing has taught me a lot of life lessons, and this was no exception. It’s so unpredictable, you never know what wave you’re going to get. You just have to keep an open mind and give it your all.”

After 16 days of thrilling competition at the Olympic Games Paris 2024, Samsung hosted its Open to All Party on August 8 for Team Samsung Galaxy athletes, #TeamGalaxy influencers and others to celebrate the collective journey to the Olympic Games in line with the belief that “Open always wins.”

Samsung organized this event — high above the City of Light and steps away from the Olympic rendezvous @ Samsung | Champs-Élysées 125 — to empower athletes, influencers and guests to create lifelong memories with Galaxy. This occasion was the culmination of the #TeamGalaxy Connect program which brought together #TeamGalaxy members from around the world to interact with each other and develop content at Olympic Games Paris 2024 with Galaxy. With surprise musical performances by #TeamGalaxy’s Harry Hudson and Jaden Smith, the celebration gave attendees a special chance to experience, share and capture the magic of the Olympic Games Paris 2024.

Samsung Newsroom compiled the best moments from the Open to All Party below — reflecting on the road traveled to Paris 2024 and looking to what lies ahead.

Among the attendees were Team Samsung Galaxy athletes Alejandra Orozco Loza (Diving, Mexico) and Sarah Bee (Breaking, France); #TeamGalaxy influencers including Greysia Polii, a former badminton player and gold medalist; CrosOne from Pro Breaking Tour (PBT), who partnered with Samsung on the Breaking episode of the “Breaking Boundaries” docu-series.

Alejandra Orozco Loza, who just competed in her last Olympic Game and recently announced her retirement from professional diving, found the event to be particularly meaningful. “I’m so happy I got a chance to represent Mexico and Latin America as part of Team Samsung Galaxy,” she said. “I’m so grateful to everyone who supported me throughout my career.”

For #TeamGalaxy influencers, the celebration was an important stepping stone in fostering solidarity.

“Nothing builds a sense of community more than these events, because we can all get to know each other while coming from different backgrounds,” said health and fitness influencer Mayane Sarwat (@maya_sarwat, Egypt).

“We need these types of events to connect with each other, so we can build international relationships, exchange ideas and learn from one another,” said photography influencer Max Muench (@muenchmax, Germany). “The creativity in all of us … it gives us a sense of unity, of creating together as a team.”

For CrosOne, this event was a chance to celebrate Breaking’s Olympic Games debut. “I’ve never been to the Olympic Games,” he said. “This Olympics — this is such a cool experience. Breaking will be crazy. I just know it will be super emotional seeing the b-boys and b-girls on stage. We’ve worked so hard to get the sport to this platform. I can’t wait to soak it all in and cry my eyes out.”

With the Olympic Games Paris 2024 in full swing, one item that has fascinated spectators and fans worldwide is the Galaxy Z Flip6 Olympic Edition — the same phone Samsung Electronics specially designed for all athletes participating in this year’s Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Serving as the first smartphone on the Olympic Games podium, the Galaxy Z Flip6 Olympic Edition is equipped with Galaxy AI to help athletes communicate freely across different languages, share their Olympic Games experiences to the fullest and seamlessly prepare for their competitions. Medalists have also been capturing their moments of glory on the Olympic Games podium through Victory Selfies taken using the foldable.

Samsung Newsroom unboxed the Galaxy Z Flip6 Olympic Edition, designed to reflect Galaxy’s brand value of openness with the Olympic spirit.

First Impressions of the Galaxy Z Flip6 Olympic Edition

The golden track running across the neat black packaging and the folded Galaxy Z Flip6 in the middle are the first design elements to attract attention. Underneath the image are the Olympic rings, Paralympic agitos and Samsung logo — symbolizing the bond Samsung shares with the International Olympic Committee as a Worldwide Partner.

The Galaxy Z Flip6 Olympic Edition packaging consists of two boxes, one for the smartphone and another for the Flipsuit Case. The box with the device features the same track design as the outer packaging, whereas the box with the Flipsuit Case shows a vibrant mix of colors that heightens anticipation before unboxing.

Galaxy Z Flip6 With the Olympic Spirit

The Galaxy Z Flip6 Olympic Edition box contains the device, a USB-C cable and a brief user manual.

The most noticeable aspect of the Galaxy Z Flip6 Olympic Edition is the striking yellow color reminiscent of the Olympics. The Olympic and Paralympic emblems as well as the Samsung logo are engraved on the back of the device, adding a unique charm and representing the spirit of cooperation.

The Galaxy Z Flip6 Olympic Edition packs advanced technology into a compact form factor that fits inside the palm of one’s hand. The 50-megapixel rear wide-angle camera is powered by Galaxy AI— allowing athletes to capture and share special moments in the highest quality during the Games, including their Victory Selfies on the highly coveted Olympic Games podium.

Cover Screen Lights Up With Special Surprise Message Dedicated to Athletes

When Olympians turn on the device, they will be pleasantly surprised with a specially crafted welcome message. “You, the athletes, are the heart of the Olympic & Paralympic Movement” — the message reads, fully supporting those starring in the Games.

The Cover Screen and Main Display align with the colors of the Olympic flag for added fun. The theme on the cover screen (FlexWindow) depicts a running track from an athlete’s perspective to celebrate the significance of competing in the Olympics.

The circuit design that appears on the main screen when the device is unfolded symbolizes a circuit board, a core component of Samsung’s mobile innovations, and conveys the message that athletes are the heart and soul of the Olympics.

Various apps and services are available on the device for the athletes’ convenience. Pre-installed on the Galaxy Z Flip6 Olympic Edition are official Olympic apps including Athlete365 —which provides Olympic competition information and personalized content for athletes — and Paris 2024 — which provides general information on the Olympics such as event schedules and the medal rankings. Entertainment, shopping and gaming apps are included as well.

▲ (From left) The pre-installed “Galaxy Experience” app and the “Galaxy Skateboard” app

A Special Flipsuit Case for a Special Phone

The Flipsuit Case is an accessory that makes using the Galaxy Z Flip6 even more fun. Users can personalize their devices by attaching a NFC-equipped Flipsuit Card to the case and display an automatically synchronized animation of the card’s image on the cover screen.

The Galaxy Z Flip6 Olympic Edition comes with an exclusive Flipsuit Case and Flipsuit Card. Made of luxurious leather, the Flipsuit Card features an aesthetic color scheme inspired by the Olympic flag for a unique texture and feel.

“I can see how helpful the translation feature would be,” said Josefine Christoffersen, a visitor from Sweden who speaks Swedish and English. Since arriving on Saturday, she has enjoyed meeting people from all over the world at her first visit to the Olympic Games.

So far, Christoffersen has cheered on her favorite athletes while watching athletics, beach volleyball and handball. On Tuesday, she tried her hand at the Samsung Olympic Games Pin Master Challenge at Olympic rendezvous @ Samsung | Square Marigny.

“Since moving to France, I’ve been traveling all around Europe and visiting lots of other countries,” said Chen who speaks Chinese, English and French. “Interpreter is very helpful and convenient in these moments — when I visit Spain, for example, I can speak Spanish using Galaxy AI!”

Originally from Martinique, he has been living in Paris for 12 years and working at the pop-up experience since it opened in early May.

“People have been impressed when I show them the cover screen,” said Goma. “Even if it’s hard for them to hear, they can read the translation on the screen which is so helpful. They don’t even have to be connected to the network. They immediately recognize the impact, and it’s one of the most popular features here at the pop-up experience.”

▲ Samsung promoter Kenny Goma demonstrates Interpreter for visitors at the Olympic rendezvous @ Samsung | Champs-Elysees 125.

The benefits of Galaxy AI are making a difference for the thousands of volunteers who are helping ensure the Paris 2024 Olympics is a smooth and fun experience for all. Emmanuel Mantilla Jr. from the Philippines has been in Paris since July 25 to volunteer at the Olympic Games for the first time.

“My first few days here were a little overwhelming because even though I speak several languages, I don’t speak French,” said Mantilla Jr. who has been stationed at Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines. “People thought maybe I couldn’t help them.”

“But Interpreter has been so helpful — not only for communicating with visitors but also with my fellow volunteers. I’ve been using the feature on my Galaxy S24 Ultra with many of the French colleagues in my volunteer group, and we all love it,” he added.

▲ Paris 2024 Volunteer Emmanuel Mantilla Jr. explains how he has been using Interpreter to communicate with fellow volunteers.

“There are always a lot of tourists in Paris, particularly on the Champs-Elysees,” said Goma. “But there are even more people here for the Olympic Games. This is the perfect opportunity to showcase Galaxy AI’s live translation capabilities, especially for all the visitors who don’t speak French. Now, they can celebrate together — whether at the Olympic Games or in everyday life.”

Yet, behind the packed stadiums and world-class competitions sits a task force of staff and volunteers working around the clock to ensure that Games-time operations run smoothly.

Paris 2024 organizers utilized nearly 15,000 Galaxy devices — including more than 7,100 Galaxy smartphones, over 2,500 Galaxy Tab series tablets and 5,200 Galaxy Book series laptops — to support its task force across the IOC, Organising Committees for the Olympic Games (OCOG), Olympic Broadcasting Services (OBS) and International Federations. From managing ticketing systems and stadium entry to facilitating event broadcasts, Galaxy devices have been used by staff or volunteer to deliver efficient and seamless operations throughout the Olympic and Paralympic Games Paris 2024.

An iconic part of Olympic history, pin trading is a sport of its own in many ways. The practice dates back to the 1896 Athens Olympics when wooden badges of various colors were used to identify officials and athletes at the first modern Olympic Games. Trading began in the Olympic Village at the 1924 Paris Olympics where athletes started to exchange pins as a sign of international friendship. Today, pin trading has become a classic part of the Olympic and Paralympic Games experience.

▲ Samsung Electronics’ Rio 2016 Olympic Games Pin promotion features 22 Olympic Games sport-themed pins, as well as eight Rio de Janeiro themed pins and a Rio 2016 decorated pin board.

Samsung Electronics put a new spin on a long-standing tradition at the Olympic Games Paris 2024 with the Samsung Olympic Games Pin Masters Challenge, one of many ways the company is opening the Olympic Games experience to all.

Fans are invited to join several Galaxy AI-powered challenges at the Olympic rendezvous @ Samsung pop-up experiences across Paris (Champs-Elysees 125, Square Marigny and Village Plaza) for a chance to collect 16 specially created pins — including the extremely rare Golden Pin — and become a Samsung Olympic Games Pin Master.

Made from recycled aluminum from Galaxy smartphones, the 16 innovative and highly collectible Samsung Olympic Games Pins were designed by French illustrator Jean André. Eleven Classic Pins represent four Olympic sports — breaking, skateboarding, sport climbing and surfing — and four Paralympic sports — blind football, para athletics, wheelchair basketball and wheelchair tennis. In addition, there are four Special Pins with three-dimensional Parisian landmarks and the Golden Pin.

Each Samsung Olympic Games Pin Master who collects all 16 pins will receive a new Galaxy Z Flip6 and a chance to win a round-trip package for two to attend the 2026 Milano Cortina Olympics.

▲ Samsung Olympic Games Pin Master Ben Choi shows off his pin board at the Olympic rendezvous @ Samsung | Square Marigny.
Samsung Newsroom interviewed four Samsung Olympic Games Pin Masters of Paris 2024, 8-year-old Ben Choi visiting from the United States, 12-year-old Thomas Tamarelle and 13-year-old Noahm from France.

Choi, from California, achieved this feat at his first-ever Olympic Games — but it’s not the first for his family. Changhwan Kim, Choi’s great-grandfather, competed at the Olympic Games Tokyo 1964 as the first Olympic fencer from South Korea. Ari Kim, Choi’s mother, attended the Olympic Games Seoul 1988 when she was six.

The Olympic Games Paris 2024 marks Choi’s first time collecting pins. His goal was to take home the new Galaxy Z Flip6 — a mission the young boy accomplished by becoming a Samsung Olympic Games Pin Master.

“I’m really excited,” said Choi. “The challenges were fun, especially the skateboarding game and the AI drawing workshop. The Golden Pin is my favorite.”

As he and his family enjoy the archery, handball, fencing and swimming competitions during the remainder of the Olympic Games in Paris, Choi hopes to collect more pins — “if my mom lets me!”

▲ Samsung Olympic Games Pin Master Thomas Tamarelle displays his pin board at the Olympic rendezvous @ Samsung | Square Marigny.
Thomas also got lucky during his first Olympic Games which he attended with his dad. He began collecting pins for the first time because he “really enjoyed the different games and challenges at the Samsung pop-up experience.”

Winning the Galaxy Z Flip6 was an unexpected bonus.

“I am excited about my new Galaxy Z Flip6 because it flips,” said Thomas. “I also love the Sketch to image feature.”

As for Noahm, who visited the Olympic rendezvous @ Samsung three days in a row to collect all the pins, it’s a whole family affair. Noahm might be the first to complete the challenge, but they certainly don’t intend to stop there. “Leyna and dad are next!” If she wins, Leyna hopes to keep her new Galaxy Z Flip6 for when she grows up, and plans to lend it to her grandpa.

How did Noahm reach that goal in such a short amount of time? By trading of course. “I met this person who had just won the last pin I was missing, the Arc de Triomphe, and asked her if I could trade it for 10 of mine.” Smart move.

The Samsung Olympic Games Pin Master Challenge will continue in Paris through September 8.

Fresh from their medal-winning performances at the Olympic Games Paris 2024, Team Samsung Galaxy athletes Rayssa Leal (Skateboarding, Brazil) and Jagger Eaton (Skateboarding, USA) surprised fans at the Olympic rendezvous @ Samsung | Square Marigny. Fans gathered as the athletes explored the space, posed for pictures and left their mark with a signed board and helmet — now on display at the space throughout Paris 2024.

Samsung Newsroom spoke with Leal, bronze medalist in the Women’s Street Skateboarding competition, and Eaton, silver medalist in the Men’s Street Skateboarding competition, to revisit some of the ups and downs on their journey to the Olympics and learn how Galaxy was a key part of their experience.

Q. How do you feel seeing street skateboarding represented on a stage as iconic as the Olympics?

Leal: For us skaters, it was very emotional. Seeing the beginning of skateboarding in the Olympics is very cool, and I hope the sport grows even bigger. The Olympics are an important chapter in our story, and I am thrilled to be a part of it. The skateboarding scene had a huge evolution — and the level this time was so much higher than the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020. I am especially proud of all the female skateboarders and thankful for everyone who made this happen.

Eaton: The Olympic Games bring any sport to new heights. It’s amazing for people, especially young kids, to see the creativity, discipline, fear and beauty of skateboarding. If there is one thing I hope that anyone takes away from watching skateboarding on such a big stage, it is to buy a skateboard.

Q. What was the biggest highlight and challenge faced during your competition?

Eaton: Oh my goodness! My biggest downfall was missing the final for the park skateboarding competition by one spot in the 2024 Olympic Qualifier Series in Budapest. That was really hard. My biggest highlight was making a nollie 270 switch backside noseblunt in the street skateboarding competition at Paris 2024 that I’ve never made in my entire life.

Q. What was going through your mind during the competition?

Leal: Man, I was nervous and afraid of not doing well. Yet, I was proud of myself for making it to the final. My tricks and family were on my mind — but the crowd was what moved me the most.

Q. What is your favorite feature in the new Galaxy Z Flip6 Olympic Edition given to all athletes competing at Paris 2024?

Leal: The Auto Zoom feature is awesome. I’ve been having a blast making several social media posts in my room. This feature will help skaters and content creators since we can skate, make videos and take selfies with perfect framing.

Eaton: I love how compact the Galaxy Z Flip6 is. I was worried about having a big phone in my pocket because I knew I would be skating in gym shorts. With the Galaxy Z Flip6, I could just pop it in my pocket and go.

Q. What were you listening to with Galaxy during the competition?

Leal: While I have a lot of songs on my playlist, I choose my music depending on the situation. In the semifinals, I listened to Brazilian trap and rap to give me energy. During the finals, I listened to relaxing music to calm my nerves.

Q. Any words for fellow Team Samsung Galaxy athletes who are still competing?

Leal: Go all out! We know it’s all or nothing, so this is our chance. If we want it, we can do it! Breathe and stay calm because despite everything, we worked hard to get here. Being here is already a victory, so take it easy! I’d also like to say something to Sky Brown from Great Britain — I know a lot of thoughts must be going through your head right now. Just take a deep breath before the first trick and go for it.

Eaton: As Team Samsung Galaxy athletes, we all understand how important it is to never give up — no matter how often we want to throw in the towel.

Q. What do you hope fans take away from your Paris 2024 journey?

Leal: I hope they felt my determination. Even though we sometimes think things are not going well, one moment makes all the difference. Smile, have fun and do what you love. Everyone should remember there’s a first time for everything.

Eaton: Never give up, and never stop trying. It’s so easy to give up when you’re going for an insane goal like an Olympic gold medal. But as much as a gold medal matters, the journey itself is priceless. You will wish to do it all over again.

The event was held at SPOT24, a multi-use exhibition space in Paris dedicated to Paris 2024, and was attended by IOC President Thomas Bach, MD of the IOC’s Television & Marketing Services Anne-Sophie Voumard, Paralympic Committee (IPC) President Andrew Parsons, President and Head of Global Marketing Office at Samsung Electronics YH Lee, President of Samsung Electronics Europe Office Il-kyung Sung and Luc Abalo, a former gold-medal-winning French handball player and accomplished visual artist and participant in the Olympian Artists programme led by the Olympic Museum for Paris 2024.

A former Team Korea volleyball player, Yeon Koung Kim, Team GB Skateboarder Andy Macdonald, Australian Para-athlete Madison de Rozario and UK contents creator and The Rapping Science Teacher, Matt Green are going to take part in this project as global ambassadors and to actively share content for Together for Tomorrow, Enabling People via social media.

The “Together for Tomorrow, Enabling People” project was developed by Samsung and the IOC to help Olympic and Paralympic fans around the world experience and engage with the Olympic Movement. The program is especially focused on younger generations, with the new community designed around the goal of helping youth participants “solve, move and create in the spirit of the Olympic values.”

“Together for Tomorrow, Enabling People” introduces three new community-oriented initiatives. Solve Challenge integrates sport and Olympism with Samsung’s Solve for Tomorrow program, a youth-focused social contribution program that empowers young people to design innovative solutions using sport and tech to address key social challenges aligned with the priorities of the IOC’s Olympism365. Move Challenge encourages fans of the Games around the globe to get up and walk more using Samsung’s smart mobile phone. Create Challenge lets participants get creative in an innovative digital artists’ community through Samsung’s smart device and S pen.

At the launch event, 10 teams that excelled in Samsung’s Solve for Tomorrow program were announced as “Together for Tomorrow, Enabling People” ambassadors. Throughout the Olympic and Paralympic Games Paris 2024, the ambassadors will showcase the solutions they’ve created to address social challenges and work to engage Olympic fans around the world. They will also collaborate with the IOC Young Leader — as well as diverse initiatives fostered by the IOC — to address solutions including the promotion of sustainable development.

During the “Together for Tomorrow, Enabling People” event, the ambassadors shared their Solve for Tomorrow projects designed to address real-world problems. A variety of innovative solutions were presented, ranging from help for people to overcome visual disabilities to new ways to promote worker safety.

“Samsung Solve for Tomorrow empowers high school students with the courage to change the world,” said Ngan Huu Kim Le, a member of the U.S. team that developed an insect-based environmental cleanup solution. “It’s an honor to take part and have a chance to present our solution to help build a brighter future for our planet here at Paris 2024 with prominent athletes from around the world.”

“I am impressed by the opportunities that Samsung Solve for Tomorrow has given to hundreds of thousands of young people to develop as future leaders,” said IOC President Thomas Bach. “They will be our innovators of tomorrow, and I look forward to seeing them tackle various challenges facing our world. We’re pleased to join with our Worldwide Partner Samsung to continue to work together to identify and support talented young people at the intersection of sport and technology through the “Together for Tomorrow, Enabling People” initiative.”

“This project — creating a program in which young people can directly participate and experience Olympic values — is a wonderful outcome from our long-standing collaboration with the IOC,” said YH Lee, President and Head of Global Marketing Office at Samsung Electronics. “We will continue to support young people to take on bold and meaningful challenges toward a brighter future.”

The Olympic medal ceremony is one of the most emotional and memorable moments for athletes as they realize a lifelong dream. However, the event has traditionally been photographed by accredited media only — captured from a distance and not from the athlete’s own lens.

Not anymore. In the spirit of a ‘Games Wide Open’ at Paris 2024, Samsung is helping athletes create and share new, more personal memories of the celebration atop the podium with the Victory Selfie powered by Galaxy.

In an Olympic Games first, medalists at Paris 2024 have been documenting their ceremonies from their own perspective as they were handed the Galaxy Z Flip6 Olympic Edition on the podium to take their Victory Selfie after receiving their Olympic medals. The selfies have been uploaded automatically and wirelessly to the Athlete365 portal so athletes can share their moments on a whole new level — perfectly aligning with Samsung’s belief that ‘Open always wins’ and that openness creates new perspectives and infinite possibilities.

“To be able to share to share the moment of achieving my dream of winning a medal with my fans, family and friends around the world — through my own perspective — was incredible,” said Team Samsung Galaxy member Rayssa Leal (Skateboarding, Brazil). “It not only amplified a moment I’ll never forget but also celebrated the camaraderie beyond the competition as my fellow medalists and I took the Victory Selfie together on the podium.”

Samsung Newsroom picked some of the best shots from the Paris 2024 medal ceremonies below. The new Victory Selfie program will continue throughout the Olympic Games Paris 2024.

Who said an Olympic Opening Ceremony must happen inside a stadium? In a night of firsts, the Olympic Games Paris 2024 officially kicked off with a historic ceremony on the Seine River — and Samsung Electronics, a Worldwide Olympic and Paralympic Partner, provided the groundbreaking innovation that made it so special.

To bring fans closer to the action than ever before, Samsung installed more than 200 Galaxy S24 Ultra smartphones on the 85 athlete boats taking part in the Opening Ceremony. The event was livestreamed through a private 5G network powered by Orange (the official mobile network provider for Paris 2024 in France).

▲ Team Kenya athlete shares a selfie with fans with the new Samsung Galaxy Z Flip6 Olympic Edition. Photo credit: Getty / Samsung

Fans tuning into the broadcast were given a closer look at an already unique celebration of the Olympic spirit in the 2024 host city of Paris. Those who watched the Opening Ceremony could experience the event from the athletes’ point of view as they shared scenes from this memorable ceremony using their Galaxy Z Flip6 Olympic Edition smartphones.

▲ Team Australia athlete shares a selfie with fans with the new Samsung Galaxy Z Flip6 Olympic Edition. Photo credit: Getty / Samsung

Samsung collaborated with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and Olympic Broadcasting Services (OBS) to create a meaningful night for athletes and fans — requiring extensive planning with various Olympic partners for real-time footage streams, seamless 5G connectivity and other technology support.

The opening ceremony livestream is just one of several ways Samsung is sharing the excitement from Paris 2024 with the world. The sailing competition in Marseille and Victory Selfies will also bring fans closer to the Olympic Games. For a brand-new view of the sailing competition in Marseille, Samsung is installing Galaxy S24 Ultra smartphones to the boats and on the athletes’ shoulders. Furthermore, medalists can capture their emotions with Victory Selfies using the Galaxy Z Flip6 Olympic Edition provided at the podium.

▲ Team Korea athletes share their experience with fans with their new Samsung Galaxy Z Flip6 Olympic Edition. Photo credit: Getty / Samsung

More than 100 experts, 250 phones and 360 days of testing made delivering these moments possible. The efforts to enhance the viewing experience for fans around the world were all part of Paris 2024’s vision of a ‘Games Wide Open.’ Through its mobile innovations, Samsung will inspire Paris 2024 athletes and fans to keep an open mind because ‘Open always wins.’

Dutch middle- and long-distance runner Sifan Hassan is a true legend in her sport. Arriving in the Netherlands from Ethiopia at age 15, Sifan found a passion for running while studying to become a nurse. Just a few short years later, she found herself competing on the stage of her dreams — the Olympic Games. Thats because Sifan has never run away from a challenge. In fact, she has been chasing challenges her whole life.

Sifan’s courage, perseverance and passion have allowed her to achieve a remarkable series of unprecedented feats. At Tokyo 2020, she became the first and only athlete in Olympic history to win medals across the 1,500, 5,000 and 10,000-meter competitions at a single Games — claiming gold in the latter two events.

Throughout her career, Sifan has stayed open to participating in different running events and learning new ways to keep competing at the highest level. The Olympic champion is now setting her sights on making more history at Paris 2024, aiming to inspire hopefuls around the world to run toward their dreams. After all, Sifan knows that anything is possible when challenges are chased with an open mind and determination.

Grace “Sunny” Choi found her love for movement early on as a gymnast before injuries forced her to stop competing. She soon found a passion for breaking — balancing her love of dance with a successful corporate career. And in anything she does, Sunny wants to be the best. When breaking was announced as an Olympic sport for Paris 2024, Sunny forged a new path, breaking every limit along the way. She left her job and moved to New York City, the birth of breaking, to chase her Olympic dream. Soon, she became the first-ever U.S. b-girl to qualify for the Olympic Games.

Sunny’s openness to change helped make her dream a reality. As risky as it may have been, she followed her passion, opened herself to new possibilities and didn’t let anything stand in her way. Breaking is a sport built on self-expression, creativity and community. And it defies limits and expectations, just like Sunny.

On the Road to Paris 2024, as she gets set to represent Team USA at the first-ever Olympic breaking competition in Paris, Sunny is staying open to every possibility, bringing joy to the sport and her journey, and working to inspire others to break limits for themselves.

Samsung Electronics, a Worldwide Olympic and Paralympic Partner, today announced its plans alongside the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and Olympic Broadcasting Services (OBS) to revolutionize the Paris 2024 broadcast experience for viewers and fans. New, first-of-its-kind footage — which will be captured and shared with Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra — will play an integral role in opening up the historic Opening Ceremony on the Seine River and the Olympic Games’ sailing competitions like never before.

As the Official Smartphone and Computing Equipment partner of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, Samsung will harness its advanced mobile technology and 5G connectivity to provide a closer perspective of these iconic celebratory and competition moments. This new view, powered by Samsung Galaxy innovation, will not just help Paris 2024 deliver on its promise to be the most open Games ever, but also further Samsung’s legacy of innovation in support of the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

“In an increasingly connected society, Samsung Galaxy mobile technology has helped deepen and transform users’ relationships with the world, wherever they are. Having been a Worldwide Partner for nearly three decades, we know first-hand how important it is to create and enable the same meaningful connections at the Olympic and Paralympic Games,” said Stephanie Choi, EVP & Head of Marketing of Mobile eXperience Business at Samsung Electronics. “We’re honored to be working closely with the IOC and OBS to provide high-quality footage that will be part of a series of firsts at Paris 2024 and bring fans at home and onsite even closer to the excitement.”

In about a month, the Opening Ceremony of the Olympic Games will take place outside of a stadium for the first time ever. Paris 2024 will see 10,500 athletes float down the Seine River in designated boats for each national delegation, in what aims to be the most open and accessible opening ceremony in history. Departing from the Austerlitz bridge, the iconic parade will follow a six-kilometer route through the centre of Paris, passing some of the official Olympic Games venues before the ceremony’s grand finale at the Trocadéro.

Galaxy S24 Ultra Gives Viewers Front Row Seat to the Games

To bring fans at home closer to the action and provide an intimate glimpse of athletes’ reactions during this once-in-a-lifetime voyage, Samsung will install more than 200 Galaxy S24 Ultra smartphones at the bow and sides of each of the 85 athlete vessels at the opening ceremony. The high-quality HDR footage taken with the Galaxy S24 Ultra devices will be shared and streamed via a private 5G network powered by Orange, the official mobile network provider of Paris 2024 in France. Orange will install more than a dozen 5G antennas along the Seine to create the first-ever 5G standalone network in France, as this pioneering collaboration is designed to ensure a seamless 5G connectivity and viewing experience for fans around the world.

Samsung will also deploy the same technology for the sailing competitions in Marseille by installing the Galaxy S24 Ultra on each competition boat, letting fans experience the thrill of the race alongside their favorite Olympians and allowing them to truly get in on the action.

This presented a whole new set of challenges and months of research, development and testing — in close collaboration with the OBS and Orange — to guarantee video quality and connectivity performance across various bodies of water and weather conditions, which can be really windy with huge waves or extremely hot and sunny. Samsung and its partners addressed these challenges by leveraging the Galaxy S24 Ultra’s optical image stabilization (OIS) features, increasing transmission power and installing relay towers on chase boat to ensure a seamless livestream experience for viewers.

“As host broadcaster of the Olympic Games, we’re incredibly excited about this partnership with Samsung which will allow a truly original perspective of Paris 2024, evolving the way in which fans will experience the Games,” said Yiannis Exarchos, Chief Executive Officer of OBS. “Samsung’s latest mobile innovation will allow millions of fans around the world to live and breathe the spirit, action and emotion of the Opening Ceremony and sailing competitions alongside their favorite athletes in real-time.”

Samsung’s Long-Running Contribution to the Games

This announcement marks the next stage of Samsung’s long-standing commitment, in close collaboration with the IOC, to drive digital transformation and deliver cutting-edge technology at the Games by opening up the latest mobile innovations to athletes, fans and communities alike. This originated with the first ‘Call Home’ program which allowed nearly 2,500 athletes to speak to their families back home for free in 1998, when access to mobile phones was limited. It continued with the Wireless Olympic Works (WOW) app, the first official Olympic information service on mobile. The WOW app was introduced to Olympic organizers via Samsung-supplied Palm OS phones at Athens 2004 and then was made available to the public at Vancouver 2010, providing fans with the latest Games-time updates straight to their mobile phones.

In addition to driving mobile innovation, Samsung has also contributed to how athletes and staff, connect and communicate during the Games-time. Since Nagano 1998, Samsung has provided athletes and staff with a total of more than 120,000 mobile products.

Details of how Samsung will further leverage its technological capabilities to bring fans closer to athletes, in another Olympic first will be revealed in the coming weeks.

About Samsung’s Involvement in the Olympic Games
Samsung has been a Worldwide Olympic Partner since the Olympic Winter Games Nagano 1998. For over 25 years, athletes and fans have trusted Samsung’s transformative mobile technology to share the Olympic spirit globally and continue to shape the digital future of the Olympic Games for Paris 2024 and beyond. The company’s commitment to the Olympic Movement soon faces its fourth decade of partnership and extends through Los Angeles 2028. Samsung’s purposeful innovations in the wireless communications and computing equipment category, including equipment that features artificial intelligence, virtual reality, augmented reality and 5G will change the way the world experiences the Olympic Games.

In March 2024, Samsung announced partnerships with Street League Skateboarding (SLS), Pro Breaking Tour (PBT) and World Surf League (WSL) to celebrate the sports of skateboarding, breaking and surfing — and their communities — on the Road to Paris 2024 and beyond.

Samsung created a three-part docu-series to spotlight each sport’s iconic subculture as part of the company’s campaign for Paris 2024, “Open always wins.” Produced in collaboration with SLS, PBT and WSL, the project encapsulates how the skateboarding, breaking and surfing communities all share the common value of openness.

To celebrate the project and connect with the communities who sit at the very heart of these sports, Samsung premiered the first two films at exclusive screenings — showcasing “Concrete Dreams” at the 2024 SLS Championship Tour in San Diego, U.S., and “Breaking Boundaries” at Pro Breaking Tour 2024 in Atlanta, U.S. “The Next Wave” will debut at the WSL’s SHISEIDO Tahiti Pro in late May.

Samsung joined thousands of skateboarding enthusiasts at the Viejas Arena in San Diego to watch hopefuls compete in the 2024 SLS Championship Tour. Fans gathered and eagerly observed the competition, where Team Samsung Galaxy’s very own Rayssa Leal secured first place in the Women’s Final.

In addition, fans and attendees took selfies with props at a skateboarding-themed “Open always wins” photo booth.

“The Galaxy S24’s photo and video capabilities are perfect for skateboarding and capturing the fast-paced action and tricks that are always happening,” shared one visitor.

“I love the features on the Galaxy S24 Ultra. The translation tool is useful,” added another guest. “Removing shadows out of pictures is amazing because everyone is using their phones to take pictures. The expanded storage is also great.”

“The documentary is awesome,” said an attendee. “It’s amazing that SLS and Samsung have come together to help out the culture and really spotlight it.”

Following the screening in San Diego, Samsung headed to the East Coast for Pro Breaking Tour 2024 at eHall Atlanta, where Samsung held a special screening of “Breaking Boundaries” for fans in between the preliminary and final rounds of the competition.

During the event, fans visited the Samsung booth where they had a chance to snap photos at a breaking-themed photo booth filled with fun props and enter a raffle to win prizes that included some of Samsung’s latest innovations.

Samsung also awarded an “Open Award” plaque and a Galaxy S24 Ultra to King Quic for his cyphering performance. In breaking, a cypher is when B-boys and B-girls form a circle and enter the middle one by one to show their freestyle dancing. Cyphers have been around ever since breaking began, and they’ve always been a place where breakers can express themselves.

“The documentary represents the most important pieces of breaking,” said one visitor. “It has roots in the street, but it represents the culmination of all the people who want to move and have technique and show who they are.”

“The film looks really good,” shared an attendee. “It’s cool to see the culture represented in a cinematic style. People need to know where to see the dance. It’s not just important — it’s powerful.”

“It is so awesome to see Samsung supporting the breaking community,” added another guest. “Between breaking’s debut at the Olympics and the partnership with Samsung, this is going to be a huge year for the growth and awareness of the sport.”

“Breaking can only keep growing, so it’s great to have partners like Samsung helping the growth and highlighting breaking’s culture and community through things like this documentary,” said a visitor.
