Samsung Electronics announced that the Galaxy S7 edge Olympic Games Limited Edition is available for purchase in selected regions including Brazil, the United States, China, Germany and Korea from today. In order to celebrate Rio 2016, Samsung made exactly 2,016 phones available in each nation.

As a Worldwide Olympic Partner in the Wireless Communications Equipment section, Samsung first introduced a limited Olympic Games edition device back in 1998, to tie in with the Nagano 1998 Olympic Winter Games. The Galaxy S7 edge Olympic Games Limited Edition, however, represents the first time Samsung has released a device with a themed design and even a preloaded Olympic Games-related interface and application.

The Rio 2016-inspired Galaxy S7 edge Olympic Games Limited Edition device incorporates Olympic Games-themed design into the phone’s design.

It features a custom-made colorway pattern that designed in blue, red, green, yellow and black – the five colors of the Olympic Rings. There is a blue theme in the rear camera, sensors and flash, red in the power button, green in the volume button and yellow in the receiver and home key – while the device itself is a distinctive black.

The colors of the Olympic Rings are also featured in the phone’s user interface in both the home and lock screens. These can also be found in the message, dial and contact screens, as well as the notification bar.

Users can also decorate their devices with Olympic motifs, choosing from a selection of pre-loaded Rio 2016-themed wallpapers.

Samsung has also developed the new 3D Flag application ahead of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. Users can launch the app, which comes pre-loaded on the device, to select their nation of choice. They can then display their country’s flag on the Galaxy S7 edge Olympic Games Limited Edition’s radiant screen – ideal for proud sports fans the world over.

Not only is the limited edition itself unique, the packaging of the Galaxy S7 edge Olympic Games Limited Edition is also worthy of note. Samsung has designed a practical pouch type carrier that can be used for a variety of purposes, and doubles as a memorable souvenir of Rio 2016. What is more, the practical re-usable pouch package is environmentally friendly by cutting down significantly on the kind of waste generated by many other smartphones’ packaging.

Samsung will provide a total of 12,500 Galaxy S7 edge Olympic Games Limited Edition and Gear IconX devices to athletes competing at Rio 2016 through partnership with the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

Samsung Electronics, Worldwide Olympic Partner in the Wireless Communications Equipment category, released today “The Chant”, its latest film which features South Sudanese athlete, Margret Rumat Rumat Hassan(400-Meter Runner, South Sudan), who hopes to compete under her own nation’s flag during the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. For the first time ever, South Sudan will be sending a team to the Olympic Games being held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

“The Chant” is a continuation of Samsung’s support of the pioneering spirit, highlighting perseverance and the will to get back up again against the odds which is ultimately what leads to meaningful progress. Through “The Chant,” Samsung introduces the world to yet another powerful story of defying barriers. The film conveys how the Olympic Games inspire harmony and celebrate the progress of the human race, generating cultural, personal, and technological connections.

“The Chant” opens with Margret in the locker room where she puts in Samsung Gear IconX cord-free earbuds paired with her Samsung Galaxy S7 edge. As Margret walks from the locker room to the stadium, viewers are transported to a village in South Sudan where the entire nation is chanting her name to cheer her on and celebrate her journey. As Margret enters the stadium, the chanting disappears, but she remains strong and confident. Through this film, Samsung celebrates not only the individual progress of Margret, but also the progress of South Sudan as they will participate in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games for the very first time. “The Chant” ends with an inspiring message showcasing Samsung’s commitment to the Olympic Games as the “Proud Sponsor of Those who Defy Barriers.”

Earlier this year, Samsung released a short documentary film, “A Fighting Chance,” sharing the untold stories of courage, hope and persistence that four Olympic Games hopefuls embrace while defying barriers to achieve their dreams of earning an Olympic medal and helping their countries make history.

“The Chant” is the next chapter that continues to showcase Samsung’s celebration for those who push the definition of what is possible and upholds the brand’s unique vision that perseverance through the extraordinary leads to meaningful progress.

Samsung Electronics, Worldwide Olympic Partner in the Wireless Communications Equipment category, and Academy Award-winning filmmaker Morgan Neville (“20 Feet From Stardom,” “Best of Enemies,”) today celebrated the official premiere of “A Fighting Chance” at a private screening during the 2016 Tribeca Film Festival® in New York City. The powerful documentary short gives an unseen perspective into the lives of four Olympic Games hopefuls from around the world as they defy barriers and persevere through challenges to achieve their dreams of competing at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

Following the film’s debut, it was announced that “A Fighting Chance” is now available for streaming to hundreds of millions of global viewers on Vimeo at www.Vimeo.com/channels/AFightingChance.

“Samsung is a company with a heritage of defying barriers. Through ‘A Fighting Chance,’ we are shining a spotlight on four athletes as they defy barriers and push the limits to achieve their dreams,” said Younghee Lee, Executive Vice President of Global Marketing, Mobile Communications Business at Samsung Electronics. “By sharing these inspiring stories, we’d like to tell the story that Samsung is not just an Olympic sponsor, but a company that is truly fueling the meaningful progress of these athletes. And by telling these authentic stories to the world, we hope to inspire and motivate people everywhere to defy their own barriers.”

“A Fighting Chance” follows the remarkable stories of four Olympic Games hopefuls from Lesotho (Tsepo Mathibelle, Marathon), Vanuatu (Miller Pata & Linline Matauatu, Beach Volleyball) and the Dominican Republic (Yenebier Guillén Benitez, Boxing, 75kg). These athletes vary by sport discipline and geography, but share a passion and unwavering determination to overcome obstacles as they strive to represent their nations on the world stage at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

The inspiring documentary is a story of courage, hope and perseverance that explores how four Olympic Games hopefuls are embracing challenges as they try to help their countries make history.

“One of the things that’s great about the Olympic Games is that it’s a place where everybody gets to share the stage, but some of these countries and athletes don’t have the proper resources and are faced with so many challenges,” said director Morgan Neville. “I’m thrilled that I got to work with Samsung on ‘A Fighting Chance,’ – it was a once-in-a-lifetime experience to meet these athletes and share their untold stories. Having spent time with them, we realize how hard they work, how big the stakes are for them, and how truly talented they are. I came out of this feeling like all of them deserve to win a Gold Medal.”
