Digital Radiography

Samsung is showcasing its premium ceiling X-ray GC85A and mobile X-ray GM85 which have been granted ATO (Authorization To Operate) for the Risk Management Framework (RMF) program set forth by the United States Department of Defense (DOD) for high level of cybersecurity regulations, while also exhibiting its new detector line-up with enhanced usability.

• S-Vue – provides high quality images for diagnostic accuracy and confidence. The S-Vue imaging engine’s adaptive filtering and processing technologies reduce X-ray radiation dose for pediatric patients without compromising the image quality. The dose level can be reduced up to 45% for pediatric abdomen, 15.5% for pediatric chest, and 27% for pediatric skull exams with the new S-Vue engine.
• Auto Lung Nodule Detection²– an AI-based CAD (computer-aided detection) software used to identify and detect lung nodules. It is designed to aid the physician in reviewing chest PA radiographs of adults. The new ALND feature is currently available for sale in Europe (CE marked) and Korea.
• SMART Center – an enterprise-level quality asset monitoring solution which aggregates data from multiple Samsung Digital Radiography devices into one easy-to-use platform. Users can reduce downtime and unnecessary tasks by having centralized control over the DR systems.

Computed Tomography

Samsung is highlighting additional mobile computed tomography (mCT) clinical cases demonstrating reduced response time by the medical team during emergencies, such as stroke, improving patient outcomes.

Featured at RSNA are BodyTom^® Elite and OmniTom^® – mobile whole-body and head CT. These mCTs can be used at the point of care, whenever imaging is needed to determine ideal treatment strategy for the patient – without restrictions of physical space and power. Samsung’s NeuroLogica mCT devices are routinely used by leading institutions in intensive care units, emergency rooms, orthopedic and neurosurgery rooms, brachytherapy suites and ambulances. In addition, Samsung Neurologica, in partnership with Winnebago, will be displaying a mobile lung screening vehicle, which will make this technology more accessible in remote areas.

OmniTom®

Lastly, Samsung will display a Photon Counting Detector (PCD)³ – cutting-edge technology that measures photons emitted by X-rays. PCD, currently under development, has the potential to allow for dose optimization allowing the user to reduce the exposure while maintaining image quality, or increase the image quality by keeping dose equivalence compared to currently used CT detectors. In addition, it should deliver increased data mining capabilities from multiple-energy binning and contribute to the improved utility and effectiveness of AI applications.

Samsung’s new ultrasound solution SonoSync is a software that provides network service which transmits real-time ultrasound examinations¹. With SonoSync, clinicians on both sides can simultaneously view the image scanned by sonographers and share markings during discussion. This software can be simply installed without HDMI hardware boxes. Samsung’s SonoSync can be easily connected to various appliances such as smartphones, tablets, laptops and desktop PCs, increasing utility for clinicians’ teaching and training.

Samsung will also introduce digital radiography solutions that manage the dose for patients and meet the needs of healthcare providers, including:

• GC85A, which provides outstanding images that boost diagnostic confidence equipped with technologies such as S-Detector and S-Align. The device adopts Low Dose technology for enhanced patient safety. Samsung recently cleared in the U.S. FDA for 50% dose reduction in adults’ chest exams, using GC85A with the new imaging engine S-Vue3.02.

• GM85, a lighter version of original GM85 will be displayed. The weight is reduced, but the functional benefits such as enhanced mobility and streamlined workflow are still retained. GM85 provides advanced patient care through leading edge imaging functions.

At the Beyond Experience Zone, visitors can learn about Samsung’s efforts in supporting radiologists in their diagnoses through various software technologies such as SimGrid^TM, Bone Suppression and Dose Reduction. Samsung Medison, a global medical equipment company and an affiliate of Samsung Electronics, today introduced the RS85, a new premium ultrasonic diagnosis device that provides enhanced image quality, usability, and convenience for medical and radiology professionals.

“We are pleased to launch the RS85, a new premium medical device with superior image quality and usability based on Samsung’s advanced ultrasonic and radiology technologies,” said Insuk Song, Vice President, Health & Medical Equipment Business, Samsung Electronics. “We have high expectations the RS85 will make inroads into the global radiology market as Samsung Medison’s representative product. We will continue to diversify our product portfolio for different medical applications and sectors.”

Among its features, the RS85 features the MV-Flow and S-Shearwave Imaging technologies. The MV-Flow is able to detect the blood flow in microvascular tissues which is hard to be detected via a conventional Doppler ultrasonic wave. This allows researchers to check for indication of any type of lesion related to cancer or inflammation. The S-Shearwave Imaging feature provides new indicators for clinical diagnosis by quantifying the elasticity of human anatomy via shear wave elastography which will increase the accuracy of diagnosis for diseases such as hepatocirrhosis and tumors.

Furthermore, the RS85 is equipped with CEUS+ for diagnosing blood flow or lesions using contrast agent images, and also provides expanded diagnostic range to the liver and breast areas as well as safe, accurate diagnosis for young children. The S-Fusion function extends analysis to the prostate gland, and also allows coordination and simultaneous comparative analysis of images and sonograms from other diagnosis instruments such as MRI and CT.

The RS85 also has a monitor arm that can reach even wider areas compared to Samsung’s conventional products. Also, the RS85 has been developed to decrease the fatigue of sonographers by adding a touchscreen for easier control of the device, and it can reduce the scanning time to improve usability.

Samsung Medison, which has achieved great results in ultrasonic diagnosis devices for obstetrics and gynecology, is strengthening the premium ultrasonic diagnosis device business for radiology. Based on the RS85, the company will continue to expand its products in large hospitals, and enhance research cooperation with medical experts around the world.
